Jay P. Green's Literal Translation 1993

5:1Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God. And everyone who loves Him who begets also loves the one who has been born of Him.
5:2By this we know that we love the children of God: when we love God and keep His commandments.
5:3For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments; and His commandments are not heavy.
5:4Because everything having been born of God overcomes the world, and this is the victory overcoming the world, our faith.
5:5Who is the one overcoming the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?
5:6This is the One coming through water and blood, Jesus Christ; not by the water only, but by the water and the blood. And the Spirit is the One witnessing, because the Spirit is the truth.
5:7For there are three bearing witness in Heaven: the Father the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one.
5:8And there are three who bear witness on the earth: The Spirit, and the water, and the blood; and the three are to the one.
5:9If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater; because this is the witness of God which He has witnessed about His Son:
5:10The one believing in the Son of God has the witness in himself. The one not believing God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed in the witness which God has witnessed concerning His Son.
5:11And this is the witness: that God gave us everlasting life, and this life is in His Son.
5:12The one having the Son has life. The one not having the Son of God does not have life.
5:13I wrote these things to you, the ones believing in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have everlasting life, and that you may believe in the name of the Son of God.
5:14And this is the confidence we have toward Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.
5:15And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him.
5:16If anyone sees his brother sinning a sin not unto death, he shall ask; and He shall give life to him, to the ones not sinning unto death. There is a sin unto death. I do not say that he should ask about that.
5:17All unrighteousness is sin, and there is a sin not unto death.
5:18We know that everyone having been born of God does not sin, but the one born of God keeps himself, and the evil does not touch him.
5:19We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies in evil.
5:20And we know that the Son of God has come, and He has given to us an understanding that we may know the true One , and we are in the true One , in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and the life everlasting.
5:21Little children, guard yourselves from idols. Amen.

Green's Literal Translation 1993

Green's Literal Translation (Literal Translation of the Holy Bible - LITV), is a translation of the Bible by Jay P. Green, Sr., first published in 1985. The LITV takes a literal, formal equivalence approach to translation. The Masoretic Text is used as the Hebrew basis for the Old Testament, and the Textus Receptus is used as the Greek basis for the New Testament.
