Matthew - Chapter: 14


14:1	At that tyme Herode the Tetrarcha heard of the fame of Iesu,
14:2	& sayd vnto his seruantes. This is Ihon Baptiste. He is rysen agayne from death, and therefore are suche miracles wrought by hym.
14:3	For Herode had taken Ihon and bounde hym, & put hym in pryson for Herodias sake hys brother Philips wyfe.
14:4	For Ihon sayd vnto him. It is not lawfull for the to haue her.
14:5	And when he would haue put him to deth, he feared the people, because they counted hym as a Prophet.
14:6	But when Herodes byrth daie was come, the daughter of Heeodias daunsed before them and pleased Herode.
14:7	Wherefore he promysed with an othe, that he woulde geue her whatsoeuer she woulde axe.
14:8	And she beynge informed of her mother before sayd: geue me here Ihon Baptistes head in a platter.
14:9	And the king sorowed. Neuertheles for hys othe sake, & for theyr sakes that satte at also at the table, he commaunded it to be geuen her:
14:10	and sent & beheaded Ihon in the pryson,
14:11	and hys headde was brought in a platter and geuen to the damsel, and she brought it to her mother.
14:12	And hys disciples came and toke vp the body, and buried it: and went and tolde Iesus.
14:13	When Iesus heard that, he departed thence by shypp into a deserte place out of the waye. And when the people had hearde therof, they folowed him a fote out of theyr cities.
14:14	And Iesus went forth and sawe muche people, & hys herte did melte vpon them, & he healed of theim those that were sicke.
14:15	When euen was come, hys disciples came to hym saying: Thys is a desert place, and the daye is spent: let the people departe, that thei may go in to the townes & bye them vitayles.
14:16	But Iesus sayde vnto them. They haue no nead to go away, Geue ye them to eate.
14:17	Then sayde they vnto hym: we haue here but .v. loues & .ij. fishes.
14:18	And he sayed brig them hither to me.
14:19	And he commaunded the people to sit doune on the grasse: and toke the .v. loues and the .ij. fishes, and loked vp to heauen, and blessed, and brake and gaue the loues to his disciples, & the disciples gaue them to the people.
14:20	And they did all eate, & were suffised. And they gathered vp the gobbets that remayned .xij. basketsful.
14:21	And they that eate, were in numbre about .v.M. men beside women and chyldren.
14:22	And strayght way Iesus made hys disciples into a ship, & to go ouer before him while he sent the people away.
14:23	And assone as he had sent the people away, he went vp into a mountayn alone to pray, & when night was come, he was there him self alone.
14:24	And the ship was now in the middest of the sea, & was toste wt waues, for it was a contrary wynde.
14:25	In the .iiij. watch of the night. Iesus came vnto them walking on the sea.
14:26	And when his disciples sawe him walkinge on the sea, they were troubled, saying: it is some spirite, & cried out for feare.
14:27	And straight way Iesus spake vnto them saing be of good cheare, it is I, be not afrayed.
14:28	Peter aunswered him & saied: master: if thou be he, bid me come vnto the on the water.
14:29	And he saide come. And when Peter was come doun out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Iesus.
14:30	But when he saw a mighty wynd, he was afrayed. And as he began to synke, he cried saying: master, saue me.
14:31	And immediatly Iesus stretched forth his hande & caught him, & sayed to him. O thou litle fayth wherfore diddest thou doubt?
14:32	And assone as they were come into the ship, the wind ceased.
14:33	Then they that were in the ship came & worshipped him sayng: of a truth thou art the sonne of God.
14:34	And when thei were come ouer, they went into the land of Genesareth.
14:35	And when the men of the place had knowlege of him, they sent out into all the country rounde about, & brought vnto him al that were sicke,
14:36	& besoughte him, that thei migh touche the hemme of his vesture only, & as many as touched it were made safe.

14:7	Wherfore he promysed with an othe, that he wolde geue her whatsoeuer she wolde aske.
14:8	And she beynge instructe of her mother before, sayde: geue me here Iohn Baptistes heed in a platter.
14:9	And the kynge was sory. Neuerthelesse, for the othes sake, & them which sate also at the table, he commaunded it to be geuen her:
14:10	& sent tourmentours, & behedded Iohn in the preson
14:11	and his heed was brought in a platter & geuen to that damsell, and she brought it to her mother.
14:12	And his disciples came & toke vp hys body, and buried it: went, and tolde Iesus.
14:13	When Iesus hearde of it, he departed thence in a shyppe vnto a desert place, out of the waye. And when the people had harde therof, they folowed him on fote and left the cyties.
14:14	And Iesus went forth, & sawe moch people, and was moued with mercy toward them, and he healed of them those that were sycke.
14:15	And when the euen drewe on, his disciples came to him, saying: this is a deserte place, & the houre is now past, let the people departe, that they maye go into the townes, and bye them vytaylles.
14:16	But Iesus sayde vnto them. They haue no nede to go awaye. Geue ye them to eate.
14:17	They saye vnto him: we haue here but .v. loues and two fysshes.
14:18	He sayde: brynge them hyther to me.
14:19	And he commaunded the people to syt downe on the grasse, & he toke the .v. loues & the .ij. fysshes, and lyft vp hys eyes toward heauen & blessed. And whan he had broken them, he gaue the loaues to hys disciples, & his discyples gaue them to the people.
14:20	And they dyd all eate, and were suffysed. And they gathered vp (of the fragmentes that remayned.) .xij. basketesfull.
14:21	And they that dyd eate, were aboute .v.M. men, besyde wemen and chyldren.
14:22	And streyght waye Iesus made his disciples to get vp into a shippe, and to goo before him vnto the other syde whill he sent the people awaye.
14:23	And when the people were sent awaye, he went vp into a mountayne to praye alone. And when night was come, he was there him selfe alone.
14:24	But the shippe was now in the myddes of the see, & was toost wyth waues, for it was a contrary wynde.
14:25	And in the fourth watche of the nyght, Iesus went vnto them walkynge on the see.
14:26	And when the disciples sawe hym walkynge on the see, they were troubled, sayinge: it is some sprite, & they cryed out for feare.
14:27	But streyght waye, Iesus spake vnto them, sayinge: be of good cheare, it is I, be not afrayed.
14:28	Peter answered hym, and sayde: Lorde, yf it be thou, byd me come vnto the on the water.
14:29	And he sayde, come. And when Peter was come doune out of the shippe, he walked on the water, to go to Iesus.
14:30	But when he sawe a myghty wynde, he was afrayed. And when he beganne to syncke, he cryed sayinge: lorde saue me.
14:31	And immediatly Iesus stretched forth his hand, & caught him, & sayd vnto him: O thou of lytell fayth, wherfore dyddest thou dout?
14:32	And whan they were come into the shyppe, the wynde ceased.
14:33	Then they that were in the shyppe, came and worshypped hym, sayinge: of a truthe thou art the sonne of God.
14:34	And when they were gone ouer they came into the lande of Genesareth.
14:35	And when the men of the place had knowledge of him, they sent out messaungers into all that countre rounde about the coast & brought vnto him all that were sycke,
14:36	& besought hym, that they myght touche the hemme of his vesture only. And as many as touched it were made safe.

14:8	And shee being before instructed of her mother, sayde, Giue mee here Iohn Baptists head in a platter.
14:9	And the King was sorie: neuerthelesse because of the othe, and them that sate with him at the table, he commanded it to be giuen her,
14:10	And sent, and beheaded Iohn in the prison.
14:11	And his head was brought in a platter, and giuen to the maide, and shee brought it vnto her mother.
14:12	And his disciples came, and tooke vp the bodie, and buried it, and went, and tolde Iesus.
14:13	And when Iesus heard it, hee departed thence by shippe into a desert place apart. And when the multitude had heard it, they followed him on foote out of the cities.
14:14	And Iesus went foorth and sawe a great multitude, and was mooued with compassion toward them, and he healed their sicke.
14:15	And when euen was come, his disciples came to him, saying, This is a desart place, and the time is alreadie past: let the multitude depart, that they may goe into the townes, and bye them vitailes.
14:16	But Iesus saide to them, They haue no neede to goe away: giue yee them to eate.
14:17	Then saide they vnto him, Wee haue here but fiue loaues, and two fishes.
14:18	And he saide, Bring them hither to me.
14:19	And hee commanded the multitude to sit downe on the grasse, and tooke the fiue loaues and the two fishes, and looked vp to heauen and blessed, and brake, and gaue the loaues to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.
14:20	And they did all eate, and were sufficed, and they tooke vp of the fragments that remained, twelue baskets full.
14:21	And they that had eaten, were about fiue thousande men, beside women and litle children.
14:22	And straightway Iesus compelled his disciples to enter into a shippe, and to goe ouer before him, while he sent the multitude away.
14:23	And assoone as hee had sent the multitude away, he went vp into a moutaine alone to pray: and when the euening was come, hee was there alone.
14:24	And the shippe was nowe in the middes of the sea, and was tossed with waues: for it was a contrarie winde.
14:25	And in the fourth watch of the night, Iesus went vnto them, walking on the sea.
14:26	And when his disciples sawe him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit, and cried out for feare.
14:27	But straight way Iesus spake vnto them, saying, Be of good comfort, It is I: be not afraide.
14:28	Then Peter answered him, and saide, Master, if it be thou, bid me come vnto thee on the water.
14:29	And he saide, Come. And when Peter was come downe out of the shippe, he walked on the water, to goe to Iesus.
14:30	But when he sawe a mightie winde, he was afraide: and as he began to sinke, he cried, saying, Master, saue me.
14:31	So immediatly Iesus stretched foorth his hande, and caught him, and saide to him, O thou of litle faith, wherefore diddest thou doubt?
14:32	And assoone as they were come into the ship, the winde ceased.
14:33	Then they that were in the ship, came and worshipped him, saying, Of a trueth thou art the Sonne of God.
14:34	And when they were come ouer, they came into the land of Gennezaret.
14:35	And when the men of that place knewe him, they sent out into all that countrey rounde about, and brought vnto him all that were sicke,
14:36	And besought him, that they might touch the hemme of his garment onely: and as many as touched it, were made whole.
