13:1 | Now before the feast of the Passeouer, when Iesus knew that his houre was come, that he should depart out of this world vnto the Father, hauing loued his owne which were in the world, he loued them vnto the end. |
13:2 | And supper being ended (the deuill hauing now put into the heart of Iudas Iscariot Simons sonne to betray him.) |
13:3 | Iesus knowing that the Father had giuen all things into his hands, and that he was come from God, and went to God: |
13:4 | He riseth from supper, and layed aside his garments, and tooke a towell, and girded himselfe. |
13:5 | After that, he powreth water into a bason, and beganne to wash the disciples feete, and to wipe them with the towell wherewith he was girded. |
13:6 | Then commeth he to Simon Peter: and Peter saith vnto him, Lord, doest thou wash my feete? |
13:7 | Iesus answered, and said vnto him, What I doe, thou knowest not now: but thou shalt know heereafter. |
13:8 | Peter saith vnto him, Thou shalt neuer wash my feete. Iesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me. |
13:9 | Simon Peter saith vnto him, Lord, not my feete only, but also my hands, and my head. |
13:10 | Iesus saith to him, He that is washed, needeth not, saue to wash his feet, but is cleane euery whit: and ye are cleane, but not all. |
13:11 | For he knew who should betray him, therefore said he, Ye are not all cleane. |
13:12 | So after he had washed their feet, and had taken his garments, and was set downe againe, he said vnto them, Know ye what I haue done to you? |
13:13 | Ye call me Master and Lord, and ye say well: for so I am. |
13:14 | If I then your Lord and Master haue washed your feete, yee also ought to wash one anothers feete. |
13:15 | For I haue giuen you an example, that yee should doe, as I haue done to you. |
13:16 | Uerily, verily I say vnto you, the seruant is not greater then his lord, neither he that is sent, greater then hee that sent him. |
13:17 | If yee know these things, happy are ye if ye doe them. |
13:18 | I speake not of you all, I know whom I haue chosen: but that the Scripture may be fulfilled, He that eateth bread with mee, hath lift vp his heele against me. |
13:19 | Now I tell you before it come, that when it is come to passe, yee may beleeue that I am he. |
13:20 | Uerily, verily I say vnto you, he that receiueth whomsoeuer I send, receiueth me: and he that receiueth me, receiueth him that sent me. |
13:21 | When Iesus had thus sayd, hee was troubled in spirit, and testified, and said, Uerily, verily I say vnto you, that one of you shall betray me. |
13:22 | Then the disciples looked one on another, doubting of whom hee spake. |
13:23 | Now there was leaning on Iesus bosome one of his disciples, whom Iesus loued. |
13:24 | Simon Peter therefore beckened to him, that he should aske who it should be of whom he spake. |
13:25 | Hee then lying on Iesus breast, saith vnto him, Lord, who is it? |
13:26 | Iesus answered, Hee it is to whom I shall giue a soppe, when I haue dipped it. And when he had dipped the sop, he gaue it to Iudas Iscariot the sonne of Simon. |
13:27 | And after the soppe, Satan entred into him, Then said Iesus vnto him, That thou doest, doe quickly. |
13:28 | Now no man at the table knew, for what intent he spake this vnto him. |
13:29 | For some of them thought, because Iudas had the bagge, that Iesus had sayd vnto him, Buy those things that wee haue need of against the feast: or that he should giue some thing to the poore. |
13:30 | He then hauing receiued the sop, went immediatly out: and it was night. |
13:31 | Therefore when hee was gone out, Iesus sayd, Now is the Sonne of man glorified: and God is glorified in him. |
13:32 | If God be glorified in him, God shall also glorifie him in himselfe, and shall straightway glorifie him. |
13:33 | Litle children, yet a litle while I am with you. Ye shall seeke mee, and as I said vnto the Iewes, whither I go, ye cannot come: so now I say to you. |
13:34 | A new commandement I giue vnto you, That yee loue one another, as I haue loued you, that yee also loue one another. |
13:35 | By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if yee haue loue one to another. |
13:36 | Simon Peter sayd vnto him, Lord, whither goest thou? Iesus answered him, Whither I goe, thou canst not follow me now: but thou shalt follow me afterwards. |
13:37 | Peter said vnto him, Lord, why can not I follow thee now? I will lay downe my life for thy sake. |
13:38 | Iesus answered him, Wilt thou lay downe thy life for my sake? Uerily, verily I say vnto thee, the Cocke shall not crow, til thou hast denied me thrise. |

13:6 | Then came he vnto Symon Peter, and ye same sayde vnto him: LORDE, shalt thou washe my fete? |
13:7 | Iesus answered and sayde vnto him: What I do, thou knowest not now, but thou shalt knowe it herafter. |
13:8 | The sayde Peter vnto him: Thou shalt neuer wash my fete. Iesus answered him: Yf I wash ye not, thou shalt haue no parte with me. |
13:9 | Symon Peter sayde vnto him: LORDE, not the fete onely, but the handes also and the heade. |
13:10 | Iesus sayde vnto him: He that is wasshe, nedeth not, saue to washe ye fete, but is cleane euery whytt. And ye are cleane but not all. |
13:11 | For he knewe his betrayer, therfore sayde he: ye are not all cleane. |
13:12 | Now whan he had wasshen their fete, and taken his clothes, he sat him downe agayne, and sayde vnto the: Wote ye what I haue done vnto you? |
13:13 | Ye call me master and LORDE, and ye saye right therin, for so I am. |
13:14 | Yf I then youre LORDE and master haue wasshen youre fete, ye ought also to wash one anothers fete. |
13:15 | I haue geue you an ensample, that ye shulde do as I haue done vnto you. |
13:16 | Verely verely I saye vnto you: the seruaunt is not greater then his lorde, nether is the Apostell greater then he that sent him. |
13:17 | Yf ye knowe these thinges, blessed are ye yf ye do them. |
13:18 | I speake not of you all, I knowe whom I haue chosen, but that the scripture might be fulfilled: He yt eateth my bred, hath lift vp his hele against me. |
13:19 | I tell it you now, before it come, that whan it is come to passe, ye maye beleue, that I am he. |
13:20 | Verely verely I saye vnto you: He that receaueth whom so euer I sende, receaueth me: and he that receaueth me, receaueth him that sent me. |
13:21 | Whan Iesus had thus sayde, he was heuy in sprete, and testified, and sayde: Verely verely I saye vnto you: One amonge you shal betraye me. |
13:22 | Then the disciples loked one vpon another, & were in doute, of whom he spake. |
13:23 | But there was one amoge his disciples, that leaned at the table on Iesus bosome, who Iesus loued: |
13:24 | to him beckened Symon Peter, that he shulde axe, who it was, of whom he spake. |
13:25 | For the same leaued vpo Iesus brest, and sayde vnto him: LORDE, who is it? |
13:26 | Iesus answered: It is he, vnto whom I dyppe the soppe & geue it. And he dypte in the soppe, and gaue it vnto Iudas Iscarioth Symons sonne. |
13:27 | And after ye soppe the deuell entred in to him. Then sayde Iesus vnto him: That thou doest, do quyckly. |
13:28 | But ye same wyst no man at the table, for what intent he sayde it vnto him. |
13:29 | Some thought (for so moch as Iudas had the bagge) that Iesus had sayde vnto him: Bye that is necessary for vs agaynst the feast: Or that he shulde geue some thinge vnto the poore. |
13:30 | Whan he had receaued the soppe, he wente out immediatly, and it was night. |
13:31 | Whan he was gone forth, Iesus sayde: Now is the sonne of ma glorified, and God is glorified in him. |
13:32 | Yf God be glorified in him, the shal god glorifie him also in hiself, & straight waye shal he glorifye him. |

13:36 | Symon Peter sayde vnto him: LORDE, whither goest thou? Iesus answered him: Whither I go, thou canst not folowe me now, but thou shalt folowe me herafter. |
13:37 | Peter sayde vnto him: LORDE, why ca not I folowe the now? I wil geue my life for yi sake. |
13:38 | Iesus answered him: Wilt thou geue thy life for my sake? Verely verely I saye vnto ye. The cock shal not crowe, tyll thou haue denyed me thryse. |

13:2 | And whanne the souper was maad, whanne the deuel hadde put than in to the herte, that Judas of Symount Scarioth schulde bitraye hym, |
13:3 | he witynge that the fadir yaf alle thingis to hym in to hise hoondis, and that he wente out fro God, |
13:4 | and goith to God, he risith fro the souper, and doith of hise clothis; and whanne he hadde takun a lynun cloth, he girde hym. |
13:5 | And aftirward he putte watir in to a basyn, and biganne to waische the disciplis feet, and to wipe with the lynnen cloth, with which he was gird. |
13:6 | And so he cam to Symount Petre, and Petre seith to hym, Lord, waischist thou my feet? |
13:7 | Jhesus answerde, and seide to hym, What Y do, thou wost not now; but thou schalt wite aftirward. |
13:8 | Petre seith to hym, Thou schalt neuere waische my feet. Jhesus answeride to hym, If Y schal not waische thee, thou schalt not haue part with me. |
13:9 | Symount Petre seith to hym, Lord, not oneli my feet, but bothe the hoondis and the heed. |
13:10 | Jhesus seide to hym, He that is waischun, hath no nede but that he waische the feet, but he is al clene; and ye ben clene, but not alle. |
13:11 | For he wiste, who `was he that schulde bitraye hym; therfor he seide, Ye ben not alle clene. |
13:12 | And so aftir that he hadde waischun `the feet of hem, he took hise clothis; and whanne he was set to mete ayen, eft he seide to hem, Ye witen what Y haue don to you. |
13:13 | Ye clepen me maistir and lord, and ye seien wel; for Y am. |
13:14 | Therfor if Y, lord and maistir, haue waischun youre feet, and ye schulen waische oon anothers feet; |
13:15 | for Y haue youun `ensaumple to you, `that as I haue do to you, so do ye. |
13:16 | Treuli, treuli, Y seie to you, the seruaunt is not grettere than his lord, nether an apostle is grettere than he that sente hym. |
13:17 | If ye witen these thingis, ye schulen be blessid, if ye doen hem. |
13:18 | Y seie not of `alle you, Y woot whiche Y haue chosun; but that the scripture be fulfillid, He that etith my breed, schal reise his heele ayens me. |
13:19 | Treuly, Y seie to you bifor it be don, that whanne it is don, ye bileue that Y am. |
13:20 | Treuli, treuli, Y seie to you, he that takith whom euere Y schal sende, resseyueth me; and he that resseyueth me, resseyueth hym that sente me. |
13:21 | Whanne Jhesus hadde seid these thingis, he was troblid in spirit, and witnesside, and seide, Treuli, treuli, Y seie to you, that oon of you schal bitraye me. |
13:22 | Therfor the disciplis lokiden togidere, doutynge of whom he seide. |
13:23 | And so oon of hise disciplis was restynge in the bosum of Jhesu, whom Jhesu louede. |
13:24 | Therfor Symount Petre bikeneth to hym, `and seith to hym, Who is it, of whom he seith? |
13:25 | And so whanne he hadde restid ayen on the brest of Jhesu, he seith to hym, Lord, who is it? |
13:26 | Jhesus answerde, He it is, to whom Y schal areche a sop of breed. And whanne he hadde wet breed, he yaf to Judas of Symount Scarioth. |
13:27 | And aftir the mussel, thanne Sathanas entride in to hym. And Jhesus seith to hym, That thing that thou doist, do thou swithe. |
13:28 | And noon of hem that saten at the mete wiste, wherto he seide to hym. |
13:29 | For summe gessiden, for Judas hadde pursis, that Jhesus hadde seid to hym, Bie thou tho thingis, that ben nedeful to vs to the feeste dai, or that he schulde yyue sum thing to nedi men. |
13:30 | Therfor whanne he hadde takun the mussel, he wente out anoon; and it was nyyt. |
13:31 | And whanne he was gon out, Jhesus seide, Now mannus sone is clarified, and God is clarified in hym. |
13:32 | If God is clarified in hym, God schal clarifie hym in hym silf, and anoon he schal clarifie hym. |
13:33 | Litle sones, yit a litil Y am with you; ye schulen seke me, and, as Y seide to the Jewis, Whidur Y go, ye moun not come; and to you Y seie now. |
13:34 | Y yyue to you a newe maundement, that ye loue togidir, as Y louede you, `and that ye loue togidir. |
13:35 | In this thing alle men schulen knowe, that ye ben my disciplis, if ye han loue togidere. |
13:36 | Symount Petre seith to hym, Lord, whidur goist thou? Jhesus answeride, Whidur Y go, thou mayst not sue me now, but thou schalt sue afterward. |
13:37 | Petre seith to hym, Whi may Y not sue thee now? Y schal putte my lijf for thee. |
13:38 | Jhesus answeride, Thou schalt putte thi lijf for me? Treuli, treuli, Y seie to thee, the cok schal not crowe, til thou schalt denye me thries. And he seith to hise disciplis. |
