Genesis - Chapter: 11


11:1	And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.
11:2	And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.
11:3	And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them throughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter.
11:4	And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.
11:5	And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.
11:6	And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.
11:7	Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech.
11:8	So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.
11:9	Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.
11:10	These are the generations of Shem: Shem was an hundred years old, and begat Arphaxad two years after the flood:
11:11	And Shem lived after he begat Arphaxad five hundred years, and begat sons and daughters.
11:12	And Arphaxad lived five and thirty years, and begat Salah:
11:13	And Arphaxad lived after he begat Salah four hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters.
11:14	And Salah lived thirty years, and begat Eber:
11:15	And Salah lived after he begat Eber four hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters.
11:16	And Eber lived four and thirty years, and begat Peleg:
11:17	And Eber lived after he begat Peleg four hundred and thirty years, and begat sons and daughters.
11:18	And Peleg lived thirty years, and begat Reu:
11:19	And Peleg lived after he begat Reu two hundred and nine years, and begat sons and daughters.
11:20	And Reu lived two and thirty years, and begat Serug:
11:21	And Reu lived after he begat Serug two hundred and seven years, and begat sons and daughters.
11:22	And Serug lived thirty years, and begat Nahor:
11:23	And Serug lived after he begat Nahor two hundred years, and begat sons and daughters.
11:24	And Nahor lived nine and twenty years, and begat Terah:
11:25	And Nahor lived after he begat Terah an hundred and nineteen years, and begat sons and daughters.
11:26	And Terah lived seventy years, and begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran.
11:27	Now these are the generations of Terah: Terah begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran begat Lot.
11:28	And Haran died before his father Terah in the land of his nativity, in Ur of the Chaldees.
11:29	And Abram and Nahor took them wives: the name of Abram's wife was Sarai; and the name of Nahor's wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah, and the father of Iscah.
11:30	But Sarai was barren; she had no child.
11:31	And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran his son's son, and Sarai his daughter in law, his son Abram's wife; and they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan; and they came unto Haran, and dwelt there.
11:32	And the days of Terah were two hundred and five years: and Terah died in Haran.


11:1	ויהי כל הארץ שׂפה אחת ודברים אחדים׃
11:2	ויהי בנסעם מקדם וימצאו בקעה בארץ שׁנער וישׁבו שׁם׃
11:3	ויאמרו אישׁ אל רעהו הבה נלבנה לבנים ונשׂרפה לשׂרפה ותהי להם הלבנה לאבן והחמר היה להם לחמר׃
11:4	ויאמרו הבה נבנה לנו עיר ומגדל וראשׁו בשׁמים ונעשׂה לנו שׁם פן נפוץ על פני כל הארץ׃
11:5	וירד יהוה לראת את העיר ואת המגדל אשׁר בנו בני האדם׃
11:6	ויאמר יהוה הן עם אחד ושׂפה אחת לכלם וזה החלם לעשׂות ועתה לא יבצר מהם כל אשׁר יזמו לעשׂות׃
11:7	הבה נרדה ונבלה שׁם שׂפתם אשׁר לא ישׁמעו אישׁ שׂפת רעהו׃
11:8	ויפץ יהוה אתם משׁם על פני כל הארץ ויחדלו לבנת העיר׃
11:9	על כן קרא שׁמה בבל כי שׁם בלל יהוה שׂפת כל הארץ ומשׁם הפיצם יהוה על פני כל הארץ׃
11:10	אלה תולדת שׁם שׁם בן מאת שׁנה ויולד את ארפכשׁד שׁנתים אחר המבול׃
11:11	ויחי שׁם אחרי הולידו את ארפכשׁד חמשׁ מאות שׁנה ויולד בנים ובנות׃
11:12	וארפכשׁד חי חמשׁ ושׁלשׁים שׁנה ויולד את שׁלח׃
11:13	ויחי ארפכשׁד אחרי הולידו את שׁלח שׁלשׁ שׁנים וארבע מאות שׁנה ויולד בנים ובנות׃
11:14	ושׁלח חי שׁלשׁים שׁנה ויולד את עבר׃
11:15	ויחי שׁלח אחרי הולידו את עבר שׁלשׁ שׁנים וארבע מאות שׁנה ויולד בנים ובנות׃
11:16	ויחי עבר ארבע ושׁלשׁים שׁנה ויולד את פלג׃
11:17	ויחי עבר אחרי הולידו את פלג שׁלשׁים שׁנה וארבע מאות שׁנה ויולד בנים ובנות׃
11:18	ויחי פלג שׁלשׁים שׁנה ויולד את רעו׃
11:19	ויחי פלג אחרי הולידו את רעו תשׁע שׁנים ומאתים שׁנה ויולד בנים ובנות׃
11:20	ויחי רעו שׁתים ושׁלשׁים שׁנה ויולד את שׂרוג׃
11:21	ויחי רעו אחרי הולידו את שׂרוג שׁבע שׁנים ומאתים שׁנה ויולד בנים ובנות׃
11:22	ויחי שׂרוג שׁלשׁים שׁנה ויולד את נחור׃
11:23	ויחי שׂרוג אחרי הולידו את נחור מאתים שׁנה ויולד בנים ובנות׃
11:24	ויחי נחור תשׁע ועשׂרים שׁנה ויולד את תרח׃
11:25	ויחי נחור אחרי הולידו את תרח תשׁע עשׂרה שׁנה ומאת שׁנה ויולד בנים ובנות׃
11:26	ויחי תרח שׁבעים שׁנה ויולד את אברם את נחור ואת הרן׃
11:27	ואלה תולדת תרח תרח הוליד את אברם את נחור ואת הרן והרן הוליד את לוט׃
11:28	וימת הרן על פני תרח אביו בארץ מולדתו באור כשׂדים׃
11:29	ויקח אברם ונחור להם נשׁים שׁם אשׁת אברם שׂרי ושׁם אשׁת נחור מלכה בת הרן אבי מלכה ואבי יסכה׃
11:30	ותהי שׂרי עקרה אין לה ולד׃
11:31	ויקח תרח את אברם בנו ואת לוט בן הרן בן בנו ואת שׂרי כלתו אשׁת אברם בנו ויצאו אתם מאור כשׂדים ללכת ארצה כנען ויבאו עד חרן וישׁבו שׁם׃
11:32	ויהיו ימי תרח חמשׁ שׁנים ומאתים שׁנה וימת תרח בחרן׃


11:1	And the whole earth is of one pronunciation, and of the same words,
11:2	and it cometh to pass, in their journeying from the east, that they find a valley in the land of Shinar, and dwell there;
11:3	and they say each one to his neighbour, `Give help, let us make bricks, and burn `them' thoroughly:' and the brick is to them for stone, and the bitumen hath been to them for mortar.
11:4	And they say, `Give help, let us build for ourselves a city and tower, and its head in the heavens, and make for ourselves a name, lest we be scattered over the face of all the earth.'
11:5	And Jehovah cometh down to see the city and the tower which the sons of men have builded;
11:6	and Jehovah saith, `Lo, the people `is' one, and one pronunciation `is' to them all, and this it hath dreamed of doing; and now, nothing is restrained from them of that which they have purposed to do.
11:7	Give help, let us go down, and mingle there their pronunciation, so that a man doth not understand the pronunciation of his companion.'
11:8	And Jehovah doth scatter them from thence over the face of all the earth, and they cease to build the city;
11:9	therefore hath `one' called its name Babel, for there hath Jehovah mingled the pronunciation of all the earth, and from thence hath Jehovah scattered them over the face of all the earth.
11:10	These `are' births of Shem: Shem `is' a son of an hundred years, and begetteth Arphaxad two years after the deluge.
11:11	And Shem liveth after his begetting Arphaxad five hundred years, and begetteth sons and daughters.
11:12	And Arphaxad hath lived five and thirty years, and begetteth Salah.
11:13	And Arphaxad liveth after his begetting Salah four hundred and three years, and begetteth sons and daughters.
11:14	And Salah hath lived thirty years, and begetteth Eber.
11:15	And Salah liveth after his begetting Eber four hundred and three years, and begetteth sons and daughters.
11:16	And Eber liveth four and thirty years, and begetteth Peleg.
11:17	And Eber liveth after his begetting Peleg four hundred and thirty years, and begetteth sons and daughters.
11:18	And Peleg liveth thirty years, and begetteth Reu.
11:19	And Peleg liveth after his begetting Reu two hundred and nine years, and begetteth sons and daughters.
11:20	And Reu liveth two and thirty years, and begetteth Serug.
11:21	And Reu liveth after his begetting Serug two hundred and seven years, and begetteth sons and daughters.
11:22	And Serug liveth thirty years, and begetteth Nahor.
11:23	And Serug liveth after his begetting Nahor two hundred years, and begetteth sons and daughters.
11:24	And Nahor liveth nine and twenty years, and begetteth Terah.
11:25	And Nahor liveth after his begetting Terah an hundred and nineteen years, and begetteth sons and daughters.
11:26	And Terah liveth seventy years, and begetteth Abram, Nahor, and Haran.
11:27	And these `are' births of Terah: Terah hath begotten Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran hath begotten Lot;
11:28	and Haran dieth in the presence of Terah his father, in the land of his birth, in Ur of the Chaldees.
11:29	And Abram and Nahor take to themselves wives; the name of Abram's wife `is' Sarai, and the name of Nahor's wife `is' Milcah, daughter of Haran, father of Milcah, and father of Iscah.
11:30	And Sarai is barren -- she hath no child.
11:31	And Terah taketh Abram his son, and Lot, son of Haran, his son's son, and Sarai his daughter-in-law, wife of Abram his son, and they go out with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go towards the land of Canaan; and they come unto Charan, and dwell there.
11:32	And the days of Terah are two hundred and five years, and Terah dieth in Charan.
