2 Kings - Chapter: 8

>
8:1Then spake Elisa vnto the woman (whose sonne he had restored to lyfe againe) saying: Up, and go thou and thyne house, and soiourne where so euer thou canst: For the Lord hath called for a dearth, and the same shall come vpon the lande seuen yeres
8:2And the woman arose, and dyd after the saying of the man of God, and went both she and her houshold, & soiourned in the land of the Philistines seue yeres
8:3And at the seuen yeres ende, it fortuned that the woman came againe out of the land of the Philistines, and went out to call vpon the king for her house and for her lande
8:4And the king talked with Gehezi the seruaunt of the man of God, saying: Tel me I pray thee al the great deedes that Elisa hath done
8:5He told the king howe he had restored a dead body to lyfe againe: but in the meane time the woman whose sonne he had raysed vp againe, cryed to the king for her house, and for her land: And Gehezi sayde, My lorde O king, this is the woman, and this is her sonne whom Elisa raysed vp againe
8:6And when the king asked the woman, she tolde him: And so the king deliuered her a chamberlayne, saying, Restore thou vnto her all that are hers and all the fruites of the fielde, sence the day that she left the land, vnto this tyme
8:7And Elisa came to Damascon, & Benhadad the king of Syria was sycke: And one tolde him, saying, The man of God is come hyther
8:8And the king sayd vnto Hazael: Take a present in thyne hande, and go meete the man of God, that thou mayest inquire of the Lord by him, saying: Shal I recouer of this disease
8:9And so Hazael went to meete him, and toke the present with him, and of euery good thing of Damascon, euen as much as fourtie camels coulde beare: & came and presented him selfe before him, and said: Thy sonne Benhadad king of Syria hath sent me to thee, saying: Shal I recouer of this disease
8:10And Elisa sayde vnto him: Go, and say vnto him, Thou shalt recouer: howebeit, the Lorde hath shewed me that he shall surely dye
8:11He loked vpon him stedfastlie, vntill he was ashamed: & the man of God wept
8:12And Hazael sayde: Why weepeth my lorde? He aunswered: For I knowe the euyl thinges that thou shalt do vnto the children of Israel: for their strong cities shalt thou set on fire, and their young men shalt thou slay with the sword, and shalt dashe out the braynes of their sucking children, and al to teare their women with childe
8:13But Hazael sayd: What is thy seruaunt a dogge, that I shoulde do this great thing? And Elisa aunswered: The Lord hath shewed me that thou shalt be king of Syria
8:14And so he departed from Elisa, & came to his maister: which sayd to him, What sayde Elisa to thee? He aunswered: He tolde me, that thou shouldest recouer
8:15And on the morowe it fortuned, that he toke a thycke cloth, and dipt it in water, and spread it on his face: & he died, and Hazael raigned in his steade
8:16The fyft yere of Ioram the sonne of Ahab king of Israel, Iehosaphat being also king of Iuda, Ioram the sonne of Iehosaphat king of Iuda began to raigne
8:17Thirtie and two yeres olde was he when he began to raigne, and he raigned eyght yeres in Hierusalem
8:18And he walked in the wayes of the kinges of Israel, as they that were of the house of Ahab: for the daughter of Ahab was his wyfe, and he dyd euyll in the sight of the Lorde
8:19And the Lord woulde not destroy Iuda and that because of Dauid his seruaunt, as he promised him, to geue him alway a light among his children
8:20In those dayes Edom rebelled from vnder the hand of Iuda: for they made them a king of their owne
8:21So Ioram wet to Zair, he & al his charettes with him: And he rose by night, and smote the Edomites which compassed him in with the captaynes of his charettes, and the people fled into their tentes
8:22But Edom rebelled, so that he woulde not be vnder the hande of Iuda vnto this day: Then Libnah rebelled that same time
8:23The rest of the wordes that concerne Ioram, and al that he dyd, are they not written in the booke of the cronicles of the kinges of Iuda
8:24And Ioram rested with his fathers, and was buried besyde his fathers in the citie of Dauid: And Ahaziahu his sonne raigned in his steade
8:25In the twelfth yere of Ioram the sonne of Ahab king of Israel, dyd Ahaziahu the sonne of Ioram king of Iuda begin to raigne
8:26Two and twentie yeres old was Ahaziahu when he began to raigne, and he raigned one yere in Hierusalem: and his mothers name was Athaliahu, the daughter of Omri king of Israel
8:27But he walked in the way of the house of Ahab, and dyd euyll in the sight of the Lorde euen as dyd the house of Ahab: for he was the sonne in law of the house of Ahab
8:28And he went with Ioram the sonne of Ahab, to warre against Hazael king of Syria in Ramoth Gilead, and the Syrians wounded Ioram
8:29And king Ioram went back againe to be healed in Iezrahel of the woundes whiche the Syrians had geuen him at Ramoth when he fought against Hazael king of Syria: And Ahaziahu the sonne of Ioram king of Iuda, went downe to see Ioram the sonne of Ahab in Iezrahel, because he was sicke there

8:2And the woman arose, and did after the saying of the man of God, and went both shee and her housholde and soiourned in the lande of the Philistims seuen yeeres.
8:3And at the seuen yeeres ende, the woman returned out of the lande of the Philistims, and went out to call vpon the King for her house and for her land.
8:4And the King talked with Gehazi the seruant of the man of God, saying, Tell mee, I pray thee, all the great actes, that Elisha hath done.
8:5And as he told the King, howe he had restored one dead to life, behold, the woman, whose sonne he had raised to life, called vpon the King for her house and for her land. Then Gehazi sayd, My lorde, O King, this is the woman, and this is her sonne, whom Elisha restored to life.
8:6And when the King asked the woman, shee told him: so the King appoynted her an Eunuch, saying, Restore thou all that are hers, and all the fruites of her landes since the day shee left the land, euen vntill this time.
8:7Then Elisha came to Damascus, and Ben-hadad the King of Aram was sicke, and one told him, saying, The man of God is come hither.
8:8And the king sayd vnto Hazael, Take a present in thine hande, and goe meete the man of God, that thou mayest inquire of ye Lord by him, saying, Shall I recouer of this disease?
8:9So Hazael went to meete him, and tooke the present in his hand, and of euery good thing of Damascus, euen the burden of fourtie camels, and came and stood before him, and sayde, Thy sonne Ben-hadad King of Aram hath sent me to thee, saying, Shall I recouer of this disease?
8:10And Elisha sayd to him, Goe, and say vnto him, Thou shalt recouer: howbeit the Lord hath shewed me, that he shall surely dye.
8:11And hee looked vpon him stedfastly, till Hazael was ashamed, and the man of God wept.
8:12And Hazael sayde, Why weepeth my lord? And he answered, Because I knowe the euill that thou shalt do vnto the children of Israel: for their strong cities shalt thou set on fire, and their yong men shalt thou slay with the sworde, and shalt dash their infantes against the stones, and rent in pieces their women with child.
8:13Then Hazael said, What? is thy seruant a dog, that I should doe this great thing? And Elisha answered, The Lord hath shewed mee, that thou shalt be King of Aram.
8:14So he departed from Elisha, and came to his master, who said to him, What saide Elisha to thee? And he answered, Hee tolde mee that thou shouldest recouer.
8:15And on the morow he tooke a thick cloth and dipt in it water, and spread it on his face, and hee dyed: and Hazael reigned in his stead.
8:16Now in the fift yere of Ioram ye sonne of Ahab King of Israel, and of Iehoshaphat King of Iudah, Iehoram the sonne of Iehoshaphat King of Iudah began to reigne.
8:17He was two and thirtie yere olde, when he began to reigne: and hee reigned eight yeere in Ierusalem.
8:18And hee walked in the wayes of the Kings of Israel, as did the house of Ahab: for the daughter of Ahab was his wife, and hee did euill in the sight of the Lord.
8:19Yet the Lord would not destroy Iudah, for Dauid his seruants sake, as he had promised him to giue him a light, and to his children for euer.
8:20In those dayes Edom rebelled from vnder the hand of Iudah, and made a King ouer themselues.
8:21Therefore Ioram went to Zair, and all his charets with him, and he arose by night, and smote the Edomites which were about him with the captains of the charets, and the people fled into their tents.
8:22So Edom rebelled from vnder the hand of Iudah vnto this day. then Libnah rebelled at that same time.
8:23Concerning the rest of the actes of Ioram and all that hee did, are they not written in the booke of the Chronicles of the Kings of Iudah?
8:24And Ioram slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the citie of Dauid. And Ahaziah his sonne reigned in his stead.

8:29And King Ioram returned to bee healed in Izreel of the wounds which ye Aramites had giuen him at Ramah, whe he fought against Hazael King of Aram. And Ahaziah the sonne of Iehoram King of Iudah went downe to see Ioram the sonne of Ahab in Izreel, because he was sicke.

8:3And at the seuen yeres ende, it fortuned, that the woman came agayne out of the lande of the Philistines, and went out to call vpon the kynge for her house and for her land.
8:4And the kynge talked with Gehezi the seruaunt of the man of God, sayinge: tell me I praye the all the great deades that Elisa hath done.
8:5He tolde the kynge, howe he had restored a deed bodye to lyfe agayne: but in the meane tyme the woman (whose sonne he had raysed vp agayne) cryed to the kynge for her house & for her lande. And Gehezi sayde: My Lorde O kyng, thys is the woman, and thys is her sonne whom Elisa raysed vp agayne.
8:6And whan the kynge asked the woman, she tolde hym. And so the kynge delyuered her a chambrelayne, sayinge: restore thou vnto her all that are hers, and all the frutes of the felde, sence the daye that she left the lande, vnto this tyme.
8:7And Elisa came to Damascon, & Benhadad the kynge of Siria was sycke. And one tolde him sayinge. The man of God is come hither.
8:8And the kynge sayde vnto Hazael: take a present in thine hande, and goo mete the man of God, that thou mayest aske the Lord by him, whether I shall recouer of this disease.
8:9And so Hazael went to mete him and toke the present with him, and of euery good thinge of Damascon, euen as moch as fourtye Cameles coulde beare, and came & presented hym selfe before hym, and sayde: Thy sonne Benhadad kynge of Siria hath sent me to the, sayinge, shall I recouer of this dysease?
8:10And Elisa sayd vnto him: go & saye vnto him: thou shalt recouer, howbeit the Lorde hath shewed me, that he shall surely dye.
8:11And he loked asyde, and was asshamed, and the man of God wepte.
8:12And Hazael sayde: why wepeth my Lord? He answered: for I know the euyll thinges that thou shalt do vnto the chyldren of Israel: for their stronge cyties shalt thou sett on fyre, and their younge men shalt thou sley with the swerde & shalt dasshe out the braynes of their suckynge chyldren, & all to teare their wemen with chylde.
8:13But Hazael sayde: what is thy seruaunt, a dogge, that I shulde do this great thynge? And Elisa answered: the Lorde hath shewed me, that thou shalt be kynge of Siria.
8:14And so he departed from Elisa, & came to his master, which sayde to him. What sayde Elisa to the? He answered: he tolde me, that thou shuldest recouer.
8:15And on the morowe it fortuned, that he toke a thicke cloth, and dypt it in water, and spred it on his face, and he dyed, and Hazael raygned in his steade.
8:16The fyfte yeare of Iehoram the sonne of Ahab kynge of Israel, Iehosaphat beynge also kinge of Iuda, Iehoram the sonne of Iehosaphat kynge of Iuda, beganne to raygne.
8:17.xxxii. yere olde was he, when he beganne to raygne, and he raygned eyght yere in Ierusalem.
8:18And he walked in the wayes of the kinges of Israel, as they that were of the house of Ahab: for the daughter of Ahab was his wyfe, and he dyd euell in the syght of the Lorde.
8:19And the Lorde wolde not destroye Iuda, and that because of Dauid hys seruaunt, as he promysed hym to geue hym all waye a lyght amonge hys chyldren.
8:20In those dayes Edom dyd wickedly when he was vnder the hande of Iuda. For they made them a kynge of theyr awne.
8:21So Iehoram went to Zair, he and all his charettes with hym. And he rose by nyght, and smote the Edomites, which compassed hym in, with the captaynes of hys charettes, & the people fledd into theyr tentes.
8:22But Edom rebelled, so that he wold not be vnder the hande of Iuda vnto thys daye. And then Lobnah began to be disobedient euen that same tyme.
8:23The rest of the wordes that concerne Ioram and all that he dyd, are they not wrytten in the boke of the chronicles of the kynges of Iuda?
8:24And Ioram rested with hys fathers, and was buryed besyde his fathers in the citie of Dauid. And Ahaziahu his sonne raygned in his steade.
8:25In the .xij. yere of Ioram the sonne of Ahab kynge of Israel, dyd Ahaziahu the sonne of Iehoram kinge of Iuda begynne to raygne.
8:26Two & twentye yere olde was Ahaziahu when he beganne to raygne, and he raygned one yere in Ierusalem, and hys mothers name was Athaliahu the daughter of Omri kynge of Israel.

8:28For he was the sonne in lawe of the house of Ahab. And he went with Ioram the sonne of Ahab to warre agaynst Hazael kynge of Siria, in Ramoth Gilead, & the Sirians wounded Ioram.
8:29And kynge Ioram went back agayne to be healed in Iesrahel of the woundes which the Sirians had geuen hym at Ramoth, when he fought agaynst Hazael king of Siria. And Ahaziahu the sonne of Iehoram kynge of Iuda went downe to se Ioram the sonne of Ahab in Iesrael, because he was sycke there.
