2 Kings - Chapter: 8


8:1	Then spake Elisha unto the woman, whose son he had restored to life, saying, Arise, and go thou and thine household, and sojourn wheresoever thou canst sojourn: for the LORD hath called for a famine; and it shall also come upon the land seven years.
8:2	And the woman arose, and did after the saying of the man of God: and she went with her household, and sojourned in the land of the Philistines seven years.
8:3	And it came to pass at the seven years' end, that the woman returned out of the land of the Philistines: and she went forth to cry unto the king for her house and for her land.
8:4	And the king talked with Gehazi the servant of the man of God, saying, Tell me, I pray thee, all the great things that Elisha hath done.
8:5	And it came to pass, as he was telling the king how he had restored a dead body to life, that, behold, the woman, whose son he had restored to life, cried to the king for her house and for her land. And Gehazi said, My lord, O king, this is the woman, and this is her son, whom Elisha restored to life.
8:6	And when the king asked the woman, she told him. So the king appointed unto her a certain officer, saying, Restore all that was hers, and all the fruits of the field since the day that she left the land, even until now.
8:7	And Elisha came to Damascus; and Benhadad the king of Syria was sick; and it was told him, saying, The man of God is come hither.
8:8	And the king said unto Hazael, Take a present in thine hand, and go, meet the man of God, and enquire of the LORD by him, saying, Shall I recover of this disease?
8:9	So Hazael went to meet him, and took a present with him, even of every good thing of Damascus, forty camels' burden, and came and stood before him, and said, Thy son Benhadad king of Syria hath sent me to thee, saying, Shall I recover of this disease?
8:10	And Elisha said unto him, Go, say unto him, Thou mayest certainly recover: howbeit the LORD hath shewed me that he shall surely die.
8:11	And he settled his countenance stedfastly, until he was ashamed: and the man of God wept.
8:12	And Hazael said, Why weepeth my lord? And he answered, Because I know the evil that thou wilt do unto the children of Israel: their strong holds wilt thou set on fire, and their young men wilt thou slay with the sword, and wilt dash their children, and rip up their women with child.
8:13	And Hazael said, But what, is thy servant a dog, that he should do this great thing? And Elisha answered, The LORD hath shewed me that thou shalt be king over Syria.
8:14	So he departed from Elisha, and came to his master; who said to him, What said Elisha to thee? And he answered, He told me that thou shouldest surely recover.
8:15	And it came to pass on the morrow, that he took a thick cloth, and dipped it in water, and spread it on his face, so that he died: and Hazael reigned in his stead.
8:16	And in the fifth year of Joram the son of Ahab king of Israel, Jehoshaphat being then king of Judah, Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat king of Judah began to reign.
8:17	Thirty and two years old was he when he began to reign; and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem.
8:18	And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, as did the house of Ahab: for the daughter of Ahab was his wife: and he did evil in the sight of the LORD.
8:19	Yet the LORD would not destroy Judah for David his servant's sake, as he promised him to give him alway a light, and to his children.
8:20	In his days Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah, and made a king over themselves.
8:21	So Joram went over to Zair, and all the chariots with him: and he rose by night, and smote the Edomites which compassed him about, and the captains of the chariots: and the people fled into their tents.
8:22	Yet Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah unto this day. Then Libnah revolted at the same time.
8:23	And the rest of the acts of Joram, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?
8:24	And Joram slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David: and Ahaziah his son reigned in his stead.
8:25	In the twelfth year of Joram the son of Ahab king of Israel did Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah begin to reign.
8:26	Two and twenty years old was Ahaziah when he began to reign; and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Athaliah, the daughter of Omri king of Israel.
8:27	And he walked in the way of the house of Ahab, and did evil in the sight of the LORD, as did the house of Ahab: for he was the son in law of the house of Ahab.
8:28	And he went with Joram the son of Ahab to the war against Hazael king of Syria in Ramothgilead; and the Syrians wounded Joram.
8:29	And king Joram went back to be healed in Jezreel of the wounds which the Syrians had given him at Ramah, when he fought against Hazael king of Syria. And Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to see Joram the son of Ahab in Jezreel, because he was sick.


8:1	ואלישׁע דבר אל האשׁה אשׁר החיה את בנה לאמר קומי ולכי אתי וביתך וגורי באשׁר תגורי כי קרא יהוה לרעב וגם בא אל הארץ שׁבע שׁנים׃
8:2	ותקם האשׁה ותעשׂ כדבר אישׁ האלהים ותלך היא וביתה ותגר בארץ פלשׁתים שׁבע שׁנים׃
8:3	ויהי מקצה שׁבע שׁנים ותשׁב האשׁה מארץ פלשׁתים ותצא לצעק אל המלך אל ביתה ואל שׂדה׃
8:4	והמלך מדבר אל גחזי נער אישׁ האלהים לאמר ספרה נא לי את כל הגדלות אשׁר עשׂה אלישׁע׃
8:5	ויהי הוא מספר למלך את אשׁר החיה את המת והנה האשׁה אשׁר החיה את בנה צעקת אל המלך על ביתה ועל שׂדה ויאמר גחזי אדני המלך זאת האשׁה וזה בנה אשׁר החיה אלישׁע׃
8:6	וישׁאל המלך לאשׁה ותספר לו ויתן לה המלך סריס אחד לאמר השׁיב את כל אשׁר לה ואת כל תבואת השׂדה מיום עזבה את הארץ ועד עתה׃
8:7	ויבא אלישׁע דמשׂק ובן הדד מלך ארם חלה ויגד לו לאמר בא אישׁ האלהים עד הנה׃
8:8	ויאמר המלך אל חזהאל קח בידך מנחה ולך לקראת אישׁ האלהים ודרשׁת את יהוה מאותו לאמר האחיה מחלי זה׃
8:9	וילך חזאל לקראתו ויקח מנחה בידו וכל טוב דמשׂק משׂא ארבעים גמל ויבא ויעמד לפניו ויאמר בנך בן הדד מלך ארם שׁלחני אליך לאמר האחיה מחלי זה׃
8:10	ויאמר אליו אלישׁע לך אמר לא חיה תחיה והראני יהוה כי מות ימות׃
8:11	ויעמד את פניו וישׂם עד בשׁ ויבך אישׁ האלהים׃
8:12	ויאמר חזאל מדוע אדני בכה ויאמר כי ידעתי את אשׁר תעשׂה לבני ישׂראל רעה מבצריהם תשׁלח באשׁ ובחריהם בחרב תהרג ועלליהם תרטשׁ והרתיהם תבקע׃
8:13	ויאמר חזהאל כי מה עבדך הכלב כי יעשׂה הדבר הגדול הזה ויאמר אלישׁע הראני יהוה אתך מלך על ארם׃
8:14	וילך מאת אלישׁע ויבא אל אדניו ויאמר לו מה אמר לך אלישׁע ויאמר אמר לי חיה תחיה׃
8:15	ויהי ממחרת ויקח המכבר ויטבל במים ויפרשׂ על פניו וימת וימלך חזהאל תחתיו׃
8:16	ובשׁנת חמשׁ ליורם בן אחאב מלך ישׂראל ויהושׁפט מלך יהודה מלך יהורם בן יהושׁפט מלך יהודה׃
8:17	בן שׁלשׁים ושׁתים שׁנה היה במלכו ושׁמנה שׁנה מלך בירושׁלם׃
8:18	וילך בדרך מלכי ישׂראל כאשׁר עשׂו בית אחאב כי בת אחאב היתה לו לאשׁה ויעשׂ הרע בעיני יהוה׃
8:19	ולא אבה יהוה להשׁחית את יהודה למען דוד עבדו כאשׁר אמר לו לתת לו ניר לבניו כל הימים׃
8:20	בימיו פשׁע אדום מתחת יד יהודה וימלכו עליהם מלך׃
8:21	ויעבר יורם צעירה וכל הרכב עמו ויהי הוא קם לילה ויכה את אדום הסביב אליו ואת שׂרי הרכב וינס העם לאהליו׃
8:22	ויפשׁע אדום מתחת יד יהודה עד היום הזה אז תפשׁע לבנה בעת ההיא׃
8:23	ויתר דברי יורם וכל אשׁר עשׂה הלוא הם כתובים על ספר דברי הימים למלכי יהודה׃
8:24	וישׁכב יורם עם אבתיו ויקבר עם אבתיו בעיר דוד וימלך אחזיהו בנו תחתיו׃
8:25	בשׁנת שׁתים עשׂרה שׁנה ליורם בן אחאב מלך ישׂראל מלך אחזיהו בן יהורם מלך יהודה׃
8:26	בן עשׂרים ושׁתים שׁנה אחזיהו במלכו ושׁנה אחת מלך בירושׁלם ושׁם אמו עתליהו בת עמרי מלך ישׂראל׃
8:27	וילך בדרך בית אחאב ויעשׂ הרע בעיני יהוה כבית אחאב כי חתן בית אחאב הוא׃
8:28	וילך את יורם בן אחאב למלחמה עם חזהאל מלך ארם ברמת גלעד ויכו ארמים את יורם׃
8:29	וישׁב יורם המלך להתרפא ביזרעאל מן המכים אשׁר יכהו ארמים ברמה בהלחמו את חזהאל מלך ארם ואחזיהו בן יהורם מלך יהודה ירד לראות את יורם בן אחאב ביזרעאל כי חלה הוא׃


8:1	And Elisha spake unto the woman whose son he had revived, saying, `Rise and go, thou and thy household, and sojourn where thou dost sojourn, for Jehovah hath called for a famine, and also, it is coming unto the land seven years.'
8:2	And the woman riseth, and doth according to the word of the man of God, and goeth, she and her household, and sojourneth in the land of the Philistines seven years.
8:3	And it cometh to pass, at the end of seven years, that the woman turneth back from the land of the Philistines, and goeth out to cry unto the king, for her house, and for her field.
8:4	And the king is speaking unto Gehazi, servant of the man of God, saying, `Recount, I pray thee, to me, the whole of the great things that Elisha hath done.'
8:5	And it cometh to pass, he is recounting to the king how he had revived the dead, and lo, the woman whose son he had revived is crying unto the king, for her house and for her field, and Gehazi saith, `My lord, O king, this `is' the woman, and this her son, whom Elisha revived.'
8:6	And the king asketh at the woman, and she recounteth to him, and the king appointeth to her a certain eunuch, saying, `Give back all that she hath, and all the increase of the field from the day of her leaving the land even till now.'
8:7	And Elisha cometh in to Damascus, and Ben-Hadad king of Aram is sick, and it is declared to him, saying, `The man of God hath come hither.'
8:8	And the king saith unto Hazael, `Take in thy hand a present, and go to meet the man of God, and thou hast sought Jehovah by him, saying, Do I revive from this sickness?'
8:9	And Hazael goeth to meet him, and taketh a present in his hand, even of every good thing of Damascus, a burden of forty camels, and he cometh in and standeth before him, and saith, `Thy son Ben-Hadad, king of Aram, hath sent me unto thee, saying, Do I revive from this sickness?'
8:10	And Elisha saith unto him, `Go, say, Thou dost certainly not revive, seeing Jehovah hath shewed me that he doth surely die.'
8:11	And he setteth his face, yea, he setteth `it' till he is ashamed, and the man of God weepeth.
8:12	And Hazael saith, `Wherefore is my lord weeping?' and he saith, `Because I have known the evil that thou dost to the sons of Israel -- their fenced places thou dost send into fire, and their young men with sword thou dost slay, and their sucklings thou dost dash to pieces, and their pregnant women thou dost rip up.'
8:13	And Hazael saith, `But what, `is' thy servant the dog, that he doth this great thing?' And Elisha saith, `Jehovah hath shewed me thee -- king of Aram.'
8:14	And he goeth from Elisha, and cometh in unto his lord, and he saith unto him, `What said Elisha to thee?' and he saith, `He said to me, Thou dost certainly recover.'
8:15	And it cometh to pass on the morrow, that he taketh the coarse cloth, and dippeth in water, and spreadeth on his face, and he dieth, and Hazael reigneth in his stead.
8:16	And in the fifth year of Joram son of Ahab king of Israel -- and Jehoshaphat `is' king of Judah -- hath Jehoram son of Jehoshaphat king of Judah reigned;
8:17	a son of thirty and two years was he in his reigning, and eight years he hath reigned in Jerusalem.
8:18	And he walketh in the way of the kings of Israel, as did the house of Ahab, for a daughter of Ahab was to him for a wife, and he doth the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah,
8:19	and Jehovah was not willing to destroy Judah, for the sake of David his servant, as He said to him, to give to him a lamp -- to his sons all the days.
8:20	In his days hath Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah, and they cause a king to reign over them,
8:21	and Joram passeth over to Zair, and all the chariots with him, and he himself hath risen by night, and smiteth Edom, that is coming round about unto him, and the heads of the chariots, and the people fleeth to its tents;
8:22	and Edom revolteth from under the hand of Judah till this day; then doth Libnah revolt at that time.
8:23	And the rest of the matters of Joram, and all that he did, are they not written on the book of the Chronicles of the kings of Judah?
8:24	And Joram lieth with his fathers, and is buried with his fathers in the city of David, and reign doth Ahaziah his son in his stead.
8:25	In the twelfth year of Joram son of Ahab king of Israel reigned hath Ahaziah son of Jehoram king of Judah;
8:26	a son of twenty and two years `is' Ahaziah in his reigning, and one year he hath reigned in Jerusalem, and the name of his mother `is' Athaliah daughter of Omri king of Israel,
8:27	and he walketh in the way of the house of Ahab, and doth the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah, like the house of Ahab, for he `is' son-in-law of the house of Ahab.
8:28	And he goeth with Joram son of Ahab to battle with Hazael king of Aram in Ramoth-Gilead, and the Aramaeans smite Joram,
8:29	and Joram the king turneth back to be healed in Jezreel of the wounds with which the Arameans smite him in Ramah, in his fighting with Hazael king of Aram, and Ahaziah son of Jehoram king of Judah hath gone down to see Joram son of Ahab in Jezreel, for he is sick.
