Ezra - Chapter: 10

10:1And when Esdras prayed after this maner, & knowleged, wepte, & laye before the house of God, there resorted vnto him out of Israell a very greate congregacyon of men and wemen, and chyldren: & the people wepte very sore.
10:2And Sechania the sonne of Iehiel one of the children of Elam, answered, and sayde vnto Esdras. We haue trespaced agaynst oure God, and haue taken straunge wyues of the people of the land. Now there is hope yet in Israel concerning this thyng:
10:3For now we wyll make a couenaunt with oure God, and put awaye all the wyues (and soch as are borne of them) accordinge to the councell of the Lord, and we wylbe in the feare of the commaundementes of oure God, that we maye do accordyng to the lawe.
10:4Get the vp, for thys matter belongeth vnto the. We also wyll be wyth the, be of good conforte therfore, and do it.
10:5Then rose Esdras, and toke an oth of the chefe preastes and Leuites, and of all Israell, that they shulde do accordynge to thys worde: & they sware.
10:6And Esdras stode vp from before the house of God, and went into the chamber of Iohanan the sonne of Eliasib. And when he came thither, he dyd eate no bred, nor drancke water: for he mourned because of the transgression of the people that had bene in captyuite.
10:7And they caused a proclamacyon to go thorow out Iuda and Ierusalem, vnto all the chyldren which had bene in captiuyte, that they shuld geather themselues togeather vnto Ierusalem.
10:8And that whosoeuer came not wyth in thre dayes accordyng to the deuyce of the rulers and Elders, all hys substaunce shulde be forfett, and he shulde be put out from the congregacyon of the captyue.
10:9Then all the men of Iuda and Ben Iamin geathered them selues togeather vnto Ierusalem wythin thre dayes, euen the twentie daye of the nyenth moneth: and all the people sate in the strete before the house of God, and trembled because of thys matter, & for the rayne.
10:10And Esdras the preaste stode vp, and sayde vnto them. Ye haue transgressed, and haue taken straunge wyues, to make the trespace of Israel yet more:
10:11confesse now therfore vnto the Lorde God of youre fathers, and do hys pleasure, and separate youre selues from the people of the lande, & from the straunge wyues.
10:12And all the congregacyon answered, and sayd with a loude voyce: It shalbe so, and we will do as thou hast sayde.
10:13But the people are many, and it is a raynie wether, and the people are to faynt to tarye without in the strete, nether is this a worcke of one daye or two, for we haue offended very sore in this thyng.
10:14Let oure rulers stand therfore in all the congregacyon, and lett all them whych haue taken straunge wyues in oure cyties come at the tyme appoynted, and let the Eldres of euery cytye and theyr Iudges be with them, tyll they haue turned the wrath of oure God awaye from vs concernyng this matter.
10:15Then were appoynted Ionathan the sonne of Asahel, and Iahasia the sonne of Thekua ouer thys matter: And Mosullam and Sabatha the Leuytes helped them.
10:16And the chyldren of the captyuite dyd euen so. And Esdras the preast, and the auncient heades thorow the house of theyr fathers, all men of great fame, separated them selues, and sat them downe on the fyrst daye of the tenth moneth, to examen the matte
10:17And vntyll the fyrst daye of the fyrst moneth they were fynishyng the busynes wyth all the men that had taken straunge wyues.
10:18And amonge the chyldren of the Preastes there were men founde that had taken straunge wyues, namely amonge the chyldren of Iesua the sonne of Iosedec and of hys brethren, Masiah, and Eliezer, Iarib and Gedalia,
10:19and they gaue theyr handes there vpon, that they wolde put awaye their wyues: and for their trespasse offeryng, to geue a ramme for their trespasse.
10:20And among the chyldren in Emer, Honany and Zabadia.
10:21Amonge the chyldren of Harim, Maasia, Elia, Someiah, Iehiel, and Usia.
10:22Amonge the chyldren of Phashur, Elioenai, Maasia, Ismael, Nethanel, Iosabad,
10:23Simei and Kelaia (whych same is Kalithah) Pathahiah, Iuda, and Eleazar.
10:24Among the syngers also Eliasib. And amonge the porters Sellum, and Telem and Uri.
10:25And of Israel. Amonge the chyldren of Pharhos, Remia, Iesiah, Malchia, Miamin, Eleazar, Malchia and Banaia.
10:26Amonge the chyldren of Elam, Methania, Zachary, Ieheil, Abdi, Ierimoth and Elia.
10:27Amonge the chyldren of Zathu, Elioenai, Eliasib, Mathania, Ierimoth, Zabad and Aziza.
10:28Amonge the chyldren of Bebai, Iehohanan, Hanania, Zabai, and Athalai.
10:29Amonge the chyldren of Beni, Mesulam, Maluc, Adaiah, Iasub, Saal and Ierimoth,
10:30Among the chyldren of the captayne Moab, Adna, Cholal, Benaia, Masia, Mathania, Bezelel, Benui and Manasse.
10:31Among the chyldren of Harim, Eliezer, Iesia, Malchia, Semeia, and Simeon:
10:32Ben Iamin, Malluch and Samaria.
10:33Amonge the chyldren of Hasum, Mathanai, Mathathah, Zabad, Eliphelet, Ieremy, Manasse and Simei.
10:34Amonge the chyldren of Bani, Madai, Amram, Huel,
10:35Banea, Cheluhi, Badaiah,
10:36Uaniah, Maremoth, and Eliasib,
10:37Mathania, Mathanai, Iaesai,
10:38Bani, Beni, and Semeiah,
10:39Selemia, Nathan, and Adaia,
10:40Machnadbai, Sasai and Sarai,
10:41Asarel, Selemiahu, & Samariah,
10:42Sallum, Amaria, and Ioseph.
10:43Amonge the chyldren of Nebo, Iehiel, Mathathia, Zabad, Zabina, Iadai, Ioel, and Banaia.
10:44All these had taken straunge wiues. And among the same, there were some, that had chyldren by the wyues.

 

10:1Therfor while Esdras preiede so, and bisouyte God, and wepte, and lai bifor the temple of God, a ful greet cumpenye of Israel, of men, and of wymmen, and of children, was gaderid to him; and the puple wepte bi myche weping.
10:2And Sechenye, the sone of Jehiel, of the sones of Helam, answeride, and seide to Esdras, We han trespasside ayens oure God, and han weddid wyues, alien wymmen, of `the puplis of the lond. And now, for penaunce is in Israel on this thing,
10:3smyte we boond of pees with `oure Lord God, and caste we awei alle `wyues aliens, and hem that ben borun of tho wyues, bi the wille of the Lord; and of hem that dreden the comaundement of oure God, `be it don bi the lawe.
10:4Rise thou, it `is thin office to deme, and we schulen be with thee; be thou coumfortid, and do.
10:5Therfor Esdras roos, and chargide greetli the princes of prestis, and of dekenes, and of al Israel, to do after this word; and thei sworen.
10:6And Esdras roos bifor the hows of God, and he yede to the bed of Johannan, sone of Eliasiph, and entride thidur; he eet not breed, and drank not watir; for he biweilide the trespassing of hem, that weren comun fro the caitifte.
10:7And a vois of hem was sent in to Juda and Jerusalem, to alle the sones of transmygracioun, that thei schulden be gaderid in to Jerusalem;
10:8and ech man that cometh not in thre daies, bi the counsel of the princes and of eldre men, al his catel schal be takun awey fro him, and he schal be cast awei fro the cumpeny of transmygracioun.
10:9Therfor alle the men of Juda and of Beniamyn camen togidere in to Jerusalem in thre daies; thilke is the nynthe monethe, in the twentithe dai of the monethe; and al the puple sat in `the street of Goddis hows, and trembliden for synne and reyn.
10:10And Esdras, the preest, roos, and seide to hem, Ye han trespassid, and han weddid wyues, alien wymmen, that ye schulden `leie to on the trespas of Israel.
10:11And now yyue ye knowlechyng to the Lord God of oure fadris, and do ye his pleasaunce, and be ye departid fro the puplis of the lond, and fro `wyues aliens.
10:12And al the multitude answeride, and seide with greet vois, Bi thi word to vs, so be it doon.
10:13Netheles for the puple is myche, and the tyme of reyn is, and we suffren not to stonde withoutforth, and it is not werk of o dai, nether of tweyne; for we han synned greetli in this word;
10:14`princes be ordeyned in al the multitude, and alle men in oure citees, that han weddid `wyues aliens, come in tymes ordeyned, and with hem come the eldere men, bi citee and citee, and the iugis therof, til the ire of oure God be turned awei fro vs on this synne.
10:15Therfor Jonathan, the sone of Asahel, and Jaazie, the sone of Thecue, stoden on this thing; and Mosollam, and Sebethai, dekenes, helpiden hem.
10:16And the sones of transmygracioun diden so. And Esdras, the prest, and men, princes of meynees, yeden into the howsis of her fadris, and alle men bi her names; and thei saten in the firste dai of the tenthe monethe, for to seke the thing.
10:17And alle men weren endid, that hadden weddid `wyues aliens, `til to the firste dai of the firste monethe.
10:18And there weren foundun of the sones of preestis, that weddiden `wyues aliens; of the sones of Josue, the sone of Josedech, and hise britheren, Maasie, and Eliezer, and Jarib, and Godolie.
10:19And thei yauen her hondis, that thei schulden caste out her wyues, and offre for her trespas a ram of the scheep.
10:20And of the sones of Semmer; Anam, and Zebedie.
10:21And of the sones of Serym; Maasie, and Helie, and Semeie, and Jehiel, and Ozie.
10:22And of the sones of Phessur; Helioneai, Maasie, Hismael, Nathanael, and Jozabet, and Elasa.
10:23And of the sones of dekenes; Josabeth, and Semey, and Elaie; he is Calithaphataie; Juda, and Elezer.
10:24And of syngeris, Eliazub; and of porteris, Sellum, and Thellem, and Vry.
10:25And of Israel, of the sones of Pharos; Remea, and Ezia, and Melchia, and Vnanym, and Eliezer, and Melchia, and Banea.
10:26And of the sones of Elam; Mathanye, and Zacharie, and Jehil, and Abdi, and Rymoth, and Helia.
10:27And of the sones of Zechua; Helioneay, Heliasib, Mathanye, and Jerymuth, and Zaeth, and Aziza.
10:28And of the sones of Bebai; Johannan, Ananye, Zabbai, Athalia.
10:29And of the sones of Beny; Mosallam, and Melue, and Azaie, Jasub, and Saal, and Ramoth.
10:30And of the sones of Phaeth; Moab, Edua, and Calal, Banaie, and Massie, Mathanye, Beseleel, and Bennun, and Manasse.
10:31And of the sones of Erem; Elieer, Jesue, Melchie, Semeye, Symeon, Beniamyn, Maloth, Samarie.
10:32And of the sones of Asom; Mathanai, Mathetha,
10:33Zabeth, Eliphelech, Jermai, Manasse, Semei.
10:34Of the sones of Bany; Maddi, Amram,
10:35and Huel, Baneas, and Badaie, Cheilian,
10:36Biamna, Marymuth, and Eliasiph, Mathanye,
10:37and Jasy, and Bany, and Bennan,
10:38n/a
10:39and Semei, and Salymas, and Nathan, and Daias,
10:40Metuedabai, Sisai, Sarai, Ezrel,
10:41and Seloman, Semerie, Sellum,
10:42Amarie, Joseph.
10:43Of the sones of Nebny; Aiel, Mathatie, Zabed, Zabina, Jebdu, and Johel, Banai.
10:44Alle these hadden take `wyues aliens, and of hem weren wymmen, that hadden bore children.

10:9Then all the men of Iuda and Ben Iamin gathered them selues together vnto Ierusalem in thre dayes, yt is on the twentieth daye of the nyenth moneth: and all the people sat in the strete before the house of God, and trembled because of the matter, and for the rayne.
10:10And E?dras ye prest stode vp, and sayde vnto them: Ye haue transgressed, yt ye haue taken straunge wyues, to make the trespace of Israel yet more:
10:11confesse now therfore vnto ye LORDE God of youre fathers, & do his pleasure, and separate youre selues from the people of the londe, & from ye straunge wyues.

10:16And the children of the captiuyte dyd euen so. And E?dras the prest, and ye awncient fathers thorow the house of their fathers, and all that were now rehearsed by name, separated the selues, and sat them downe on the first daye of the tenth moneth, to exame this matter.
10:17And on ye first daye of ye first moneth broughte they the matter to a conclusion, concernynge all the men yt had take straunge wyues.
10:18And amoge the childre of the prestes there were men founde yt had take straunge wyues, namely amoge the children of Iesua the sonne of Iosedec & of his brethre, Maeseia, Elieser, Iarib and Godolia.
10:19And they gaue their hades there vpon, that they wolde put awaye their wyues: & for their trespace offerynge to geue a rame for their trespace.
10:20Amoge the children of Immer, Hanani & Sabadia.
10:21Amonge the childre of Harim, Maeseia, Elia, Semaia, Iehiel, and Vsia.
10:22Amonge ye children of Pashur, Elioenai, Maeseia, Ismael, Nethaneel, Iosabad & Eleasa.
10:23Amonge the Leuites, Iosabad, Simei and Celaia, He is that Celita, Pethahia, Iuda & Eleasar.
10:24Amonge the syngers, Elyasib. Amonge the porters, Sallum, Telem and Vri.
10:25Of Israel. Amonge the children of Pareos, Ramia, Iesia, Malchia, Meiamin, Eleasar, Malchia & Benaia.
