Job - Chapter: 1


1:1	There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Iob, and that man was perfect and vpright, and one that feared God, and eschewed euill.
1:2	And there were borne vnto him seuen sonnes, and three daughters.
1:3	His substance also was seuen thousand sheepe, and three thousand camels, and fiue hundred yoke of oxen, and fiue hundred shee asses, and a very great houshold; so that this man was the greatest of all the men of the East.
1:4	And his sonnes went and feasted in their houses, euery one his day, and sent and called for their three sisters, to eate and to drinke with them.
1:5	And it was so, when the dayes of their feasting were gone about, that Iob sent and sanctified them, and rose vp early in the morning, and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all: For Iob said, It may be that my sonnes haue sinned, and cursed God in their hearts: Thus did Iob continually.
1:6	Now there was a day, when the sons of God came to present themselues before the Lord, and Satan came also among them.
1:7	And the Lord said vnto Satan, Whence commest thou? Then Satan answered the Lord, and sayde, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking vp and downe in it.
1:8	And the Lord sayd vnto Satan, Hast thou considered my seruant Iob, that there is none like him in the earth? A perfect and an vpright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth euill?
1:9	Then Satan answered ye Lord, and sayd, Doeth Iob feare God for nought?
1:10	Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on euery side? Thou hast blessed the worke of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land.
1:11	But put foorth thine hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will curse thee to thy face.
1:12	And the Lord said vnto Satan, Behold, all that hee hath is in thy power, onely vpon himselfe put not foorth thine hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the Lord.
1:13	And there was a day, when his sonnes and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brothers house:
1:14	And there came a messenger vnto Iob, and said, The oxen were plowing, and the asses feeding beside them,
1:15	And the Sabeans fell vpon them, and tooke them away: yea they haue slaine the seruants with the edge of the sword, and I onely am escaped alone, to tell thee.
1:16	While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The fire of God is fallen from heauen, and hath burnt vp the sheepe, and the seruants, and consumed them, and I onely am escaped alone, to tell thee.
1:17	While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The Caldeans made out three bands, and fell vpon the camels, and haue caried them away, yea, and slaine the seruants with the edge of the sword, and I onely am escaped alone, to tell thee.
1:18	While he was yet speaking, there came also another, & said, Thy sonnes, and thy daughters, were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brothers house.
1:19	And beholde, there came a great winde from the wildernes, and smote the foure corners of the house, and it fell vpon the yong men, and they are dead, and I onely am escaped alone to tell thee.
1:20	Then Iob arose, and rent his mantle, and shaued his head, and fell downe vpon the ground and worshipped,
1:21	And said, Naked came I out of my mothers wombe, and naked shall I returne thither: the Lord gaue, and the Lord hath taken away, blessed be the Name of the Lord.
1:22	In all this Iob sinned not, nor charged God foolishly.

1:5	And when the dayes of their banketting were gone about, Iob sent, and sanctified them, and rose vp early in the morning, and offred burnt offrings according to the nomber of them all. For Iob thought, It may be that my sonnes haue sinned, and blasphemed God in their hearts: thus did Iob euery day.
1:6	Nowe on a day when the children of God came and stoode before the Lord, Satan came also among them.
1:7	Then the Lord sayde vnto Satan, Whence commest thou? And Satan answered the Lord, saying, From compassing the earth to and from, and from walking in it.
1:8	And the Lord saide vnto Satan, Hast thou not considered my seruant Iob, how none is like him in the earth? an vpright and iust man, one that feareth God, and escheweth euill?
1:9	Then Satan answered the Lord, and sayde, Doeth Iob feare God for nought?
1:10	Hast thou not made an hedge about him and about his house, and about all that he hath on euery side? thou hast blessed the worke of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land.
1:11	But stretch out now thine hand and touch all that he hath, to see if he will not blaspheme thee to thy face.
1:12	Then the Lord sayde vnto Satan, Lo, all that he hath is in thine hand: onely vpon himselfe shalt thou not stretch out thine hand. So Satan departed from the presence of the Lord.
1:13	And on a day, when his sonnes and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brothers house,
1:14	There came a messenger vnto Iob, and said, The oxen were plowing, and the asses feeding in their places,
1:15	And the Shabeans came violently, and tooke them: yea, they haue slayne the seruants with the edge of the sworde: but I onely am escaped alone to tell thee.
1:16	And whiles he was yet speaking, another came, and sayde, The fire of God is fallen from the heauen, and hath burnt vp the sheepe and the seruants, and deuoured them: but I onely am escaped alone to tell thee.
1:17	And whiles he was yet speaking, another came, and sayd, The Caldeans set on three bands, and fell vpon the camels, and haue taken them, and haue slayne the seruantes with the edge of the sworde: but I onely am escaped alone to tell thee.
1:18	And whiles he was yet speaking, came an other, and sayd, Thy sonnes, and thy daughters were eating, and drinking wine in their eldest brothers house,
1:19	And behold, there came a great wind from beyonde the wildernesse, and smote the foure corners of the house, which fel vpon the children, and they are dead, and I onely am escaped alone to tell thee.
1:20	Then Iob arose, and rent his garment, and shaued his head, and fel downe vpon the ground, and worshipped,
1:21	And sayd, Naked came I out of my mothers wombe, and naked shall I returne thither: the Lord hath giuen, and the Lord hath taken it: blessed be the Name of the Lord.
1:22	In all this did not Iob sinne, nor charge God foolishly.

1:3	His substaunce also was seuen .M. shepe, & thre .M. camels, .v.C. youck of oxen, & fyue .C. she asses, and a very greate housholde: so that he was one of the most principall men among all them of the east countre.
1:4	And his sonnes went and made banckettes: one daye in one house, another daye in another, and sent for theyr thre systers, to eat & drincke with them.
1:5	And it fortuned, that when they had passed ouer the tyme of their bancketting rounde aboute, Iob sent for them, and sanctified them, and gat vp early, and offered for euery one a brentofferynge. For Iob sayde: lest peraduenture my sonnes haue done some offence, & haue bene vnthankfull to God in their hertes. Thus did Iob euery daye.
1:6	And vpon a daye when the children of God cam & stode before the Lord, it fortuned that Sathan cam also among them.
1:7	And the Lorde sayde vnto Sathan. From whence commest thou? Sathan answered the Lord, and sayde: I haue gone about the lande, and walcked thorow it.
1:8	And the Lorde sayde vnto Sathan: hast thou not considered my seruaunt Iob, how that there is none lyke him in the land? a perfect & a iust man: soch a one as feareth God, and exchueth euell?
1:9	Sathan answered, and sayde vnto the Lord. Doth Iob feare God for naught?
1:10	hast thou not preserued him, & his house, and all that he hath on euery syde? Thou hast blessed the worckes of hys handes, and hys possessyon is encreased in the lande.
1:11	But laye thyne hand now vpon hym and touch all that he hath, and he shal curse the to thy face.
1:12	And the Lorde sayde vnto Satan: lo, all that he hath, be in thy power: onely vpon hym selfe se that thou laye not thyne hande. And Satan went forth from the presence of the Lorde.
1:13	And vpon a certayn daye it fortuned, that his sonnes and daughters were eatyng and drincking wyne in their eldest brothers house,
1:14	and there came a messenger vnto Iob, and sayde: Whyle the oxen were a plowyng, and the asses goynge in the pasture besyde them,
1:15	the Sabees came in vyolently, and toke them awaye: yee, they haue slayne thy seruauntes with the edge of the sweard, and I onely ranne my waye, to tell the.
1:16	Whyle he was yet speakyng, there came another, and sayde: The fyre of God is fallen from heauen, and hath brent vp all thy shepe and seruantes, and consumed them: & I onely ranne my waye, to tell the.
1:17	And whyle he was yet speakinge, there came another, and sayde: The Caldees made thre armyes, and fell in vpon the camels, and haue caryed them awaye, yee, and slayne thy seruauntes with the swearde: and I onely am gotten awaye, to tell the.
1:18	And whyle he was yet speakyng, there came another, and sayde: Thy sonnes and thy daughters were eatynge and drynckynge wyne in theyr eldest brothers house,
1:19	and beholde, there came a myghtye greate wynde out of the south, and smote the foure corners of the house: which fell vpon thy children, and they are deed, and I am gotten a waye alone to tell the.
1:20	Then Iob stode vp, and rent his clothes, and shaued hys heade, fell downe vpon the grounde, worshipped,
1:21	and sayd: Naked came I out of my mothers wombe, and naked shall I turne thyther agayne. The Lord gaue, and the Lorde hath taken awaye blessed be the name of the Lord.
1:22	In all these thynges dyd Iob not offende, ner murmured foolyshly agaynst God.
