| 2:1 | And the children of God came and stode before the Lorde, and Satan came also amonge them, and stode before the Lorde. |
| 2:2 | And the Lord sayde vnto Satan: From whence commest thou? Satan answered the Lorde, and sayde: I haue gone about the land, and walcked thorow it. |
| 2:3 | And the Lorde sayde vnto Satan: hast thou not consydered my seruaunt Iob? for there is none lyke him in the land. For he is a perfect and iust man, soch a one as feareth God, and exchueth euell, & contynueth styll in hys godlynesse. And thou mouedest me agaynst him, that I shulde punysh him for naught. |
| 2:4 | And Satan answered the Lord, & sayde: Skyn for skynne? yee, a man wyll geue all that euer he hath, for his lyfe. |
| 2:5 | But laye thyne hand now vpon him, and touch once his bone and flesh, and he shall curse the to thy face. |
| 2:6 | And the Lorde sayde vnto Satan: lo, there hast thou hym in thy power, but spare hys lyfe. |
| 2:7 | So went Satan forth from the presence of the Lord, and smote Iob with maruelous sore byles, from the sole of hys fote vnto hys crowne: |
| 2:8 | so that he sat vpon the ground in the asshes, and scraped of the fylth of hys sores with a potsherde. |
| 2:9 | Then sayde hys wyfe vnto hym: Dost thou contynue yet in thy perfectnesse? curse God & dye. |
| 2:10 | But Iob sayde vnto her: Thou speakest lyke a folysh woman. Shal we receaue prosperite at the hand of God, and not receaue aduersite? In all these thinges, did not Iob synne with his lyppes. |
| 2:11 | Now when Iobs frendes hearde of all the trouble, that happened vnto hym, there came thre of them, euery one from hys awne place: namely, Eliphas the Themanite, Bildad the Suhite, & Zophad the Naamathite. And they were agreed together to come, to shewe their compassion vpon him, and to comforte hym. |
| 2:12 | So when they lyfte vp theyr eyes a farre of, they knewe him not. Then they cryed, and wepte: & euery one of them rente his clothes, and sprynckled dust vpon theyr heades in the ayre. |
| 2:13 | They sat them downe by hym also vpon the grounde seuen dayes and seuen nyghtes. Nether was there any of them that spake one worde vnto hym: for they sawe, that hys payne was very greate. |

| 2:3 | And the Lord seide to Sathan, Whethir thou hast biholde my seruaunt Joob, that noon in erthe is lijk hym; he is a symple man, and riytful, and dredynge God, and goynge awei fro yuel, and yit holdynge innocence? `But thou hast moued me ayens him, that `Y schulde turmente hym in veyn. |
| 2:4 | To whom Sathan answeride, and seide, `A man schal yyue skyn for skyn, and alle thingis that he hath for his lijf; |
| 2:5 | `ellis sende thin hond, and touche his boon and fleisch, and thanne thou schalt se, that he schal curse thee in the face. |
| 2:6 | Therfor the Lord seide to Sathan, Lo! he is in `thin hond; netheles kepe thou his lijf. |
| 2:7 | Therfor Sathan yede out fro the face of the Lord, and smoot Joob with `a ful wickid botche fro the sole of the foot `til to his top; |
| 2:8 | which Joob schauyde the quytere with a schelle, `and sat in the dunghil. |
| 2:9 | Forsothe his wijf seide to hym, Dwellist thou yit in thi symplenesse? Curse thou God, and die. |
| 2:10 | And Joob seide, Thou hast spoke as oon of the fonned wymmen; if we han take goodis of the hond of the Lord, whi forsothe suffren we not yuels? In alle these thingis Joob synnede not in hise lippis. |
| 2:11 | Therfor thre frendis of Joob herden al the yuel, that hadde bifelde to hym, and camen ech man fro his place, Eliphath Temanytes, and Baldach Suythes, and Sophar Naamathites; for thei `hadden seide togidere to hem silf, that thei wolden come togidere, and visite hym, and coumforte. |
| 2:12 | And whanne thei hadden reisid afer `her iyen, thei knewen not hym; and thei crieden, and wepten, and to-renten her clothis, and spreynten dust on her heed `in to heuene. |
| 2:13 | And thei saten with hym in the erthe seuene daies and seuene nyytis, and no man spak a word to hym; for thei sien, that his sorewe was greet. |

| 2:10 | But Iob sayde vnto her: Thou speakest like a foolish woma. Seinge we haue receaued prosperite at the honde of God, wherfore shulde we not be content with aduersite also? In all these thinges, dyd not Iob synne with his lippes. |
