Job - Chapter: 20

>
20:1Forsothe Sophar Naamathites answeride, and seide,
20:2Therfor my thouytis dyuerse comen oon aftir anothir; and the mynde is rauyischid in to dyuerse thingis.
20:3Y schal here the techyng, bi which thou repreuest me; and the spirit of myn vndurstondyng schal answere me.
20:4Y woot this fro the bigynnyng, sithen man was set on erthe,
20:5that the preisyng of wickid men is schort, and the ioie of an ypocrite is at the licnesse of a poynt.
20:6Thouy his pride `stieth in to heuene, and his heed touchith the cloudis,
20:7he schal be lost in the ende, as a dunghil; and, thei that sien hym, schulen seie, Where is he?
20:8As a dreem fleynge awei he schal not be foundun; he schal passe as `a nyytis siyt.
20:9The iye that siy hym schal not se; and his place schal no more biholde him.
20:10Hise sones schulen be `al to-brokun with nedynesse; and hise hondis schulen yelde to hym his sorewe.
20:11Hise boonys schulen be fillid with the vices of his yong wexynge age; and schulen slepe with hym in dust.
20:12For whanne yuel was swete in his mouth, he hidde it vndur his tunge.
20:13He schal spare it, and schal not forsake it; and schal hide in his throte.
20:14His breed in his wombe schal be turned in to galle of snakis withynne.
20:15He schal spue out the richessis, whiche he deuouride; and God schal drawe tho ritchessis out of his wombe.
20:16He schal souke the heed of snakis; and the tunge of an addre schal sle hym.
20:17Se he not the stremys of the flood of the stronde, of hony, and of botere.
20:18He schal suffre peyne for alle thingis whiche he hath do, netheles he schal not be wastid; aftir the multitude of his fyndyngis, so and `he schal suffre.
20:19For he brake, and made nakid the hows of a pore man; he rauyschide, and bildide it not.
20:20And his wombe was not fillid; and whanne he hath that, that he couetide, he may not holde in possessioun.
20:21`No thing lefte of his mete; and therfor no thing schal dwelle of his goodis.
20:22Whanne he is fillid, he schal be maad streit; he schal `be hoot, and alle sorewe schal falle in on hym.
20:23`Y wolde, that his wombe be fillid, that he sende out in to hym the ire of his strong veniaunce, and reyne his batel on hym.
20:24He schal fle yrun armuris, and he schal falle in to a brasun boowe.
20:25Led out, and goynge out `of his schethe, and schynynge, `ether smytinge with leit, `in to his bittirnesse; orrible fendis schulen go, and schulen come on hym.
20:26Alle derknessis ben hid in hise priuytees; fier, which is not teendid, schal deuoure hym; he schal be turmentid left in his tabernacle.
20:27Heuenes schulen schewe his wickidnesse; and erthe schal rise togidere ayens hym.
20:28The seed of his hows schal be opyn; it schal be drawun doun in the dai of the strong veniaunce of the Lord.
20:29This is the part of a wickid man, `which part is youun of God, and the eritage of hise wordis of the Lord.

20:1Then answered Zophar the Naamathite and saide,
20:2Doubtlesse my thoughts cause me to answere, and therefore I make haste.
20:3I haue heard the correction of my reproch: therefore the spirite of mine vnderstanding causeth me to answere.
20:4Knowest thou not this of olde? and since God placed man vpon the earth,
20:5That the reioycing of the wicked is short, and that the ioy of hypocrites is but a moment?
20:6Though his excellencie mount vp to the heauen, and his head reache vnto the cloudes,
20:7Yet shall hee perish for euer, like his dung, and they which haue seene him, shall say, Where is hee?
20:8He shall flee away as a dreame, and they shall not finde him, and shall passe away as a vision of the night,
20:9So that the eye which had seene him, shall do so no more, and his place shall see him no more.
20:10His children shall flatter the poore, and his hands shall restore his substance.
20:11His bones are full of the sinne of his youth, and it shall lie downe with him in the dust.
20:12When wickednesse was sweete in his mouth, and he hid it vnder his tongue,
20:13And fauoured it, and would not forsake it, but kept it close in his mouth,
20:14Then his meat in his bowels was turned: the gall of Aspes was in the middes of him.
20:15He hath deuoured substance, and hee shall vomit it: for God shall drawe it out of his bellie.
20:16He shall sucke the gall of Aspes, and the vipers tongue shall slay him.
20:17He shall not see the riuers, nor the floods and streames of honie and butter.
20:18He shall restore the labour, and shall deuoure no more: euen according to the substance shalbe his exchange, and he shall enioy it no more.
20:19For he hath vndone many: he hath forsaken the poore, and hath spoyled houses which he builded not.
20:20Surely he shall feele no quietnes in his bodie, neither shall he reserue of that which he desired.
20:21There shall none of his meate bee left: therefore none shall hope for his goods.
20:22When he shalbe filled with his abundance, he shalbe in paine, and the hand of all the wicked shall assaile him.
20:23He shall be about to fill his belly, but God shall sende vpon him his fierce wrath, and shall cause to rayne vpon him, euen vpon his meate.
20:24He shall flee from the yron weapons, and the bow of steele shall strike him through.
20:25The arrowe is drawen out, and commeth forth of the body, and shineth of his gall, so feare commeth vpon him.
20:26All darkenes shalbe hid in his secret places: the fire that is not blowen, shall deuoure him, and that which remaineth in his tabernacle, shalbe destroyed.
20:27The heauen shall declare his wickednes, and the earth shall rise vp against him.
20:28The increase of his house shall go away: it shall flow away in the day of his wrath.
20:29This is the portion of the wicked man from God, and the heritage that he shall haue of God for his wordes.
