Proverbs - Chapter: 24

>
24:1Be not thou gelous ouer wycked men, and desyre not to be amonge them.
24:2For ther herte ymagyneth to do hurte, and theyr lyppes talke of myschefe.
24:3Thorow wysdome is an house buyled, and wyth vnderstandynge is it sett vp.
24:4Thorow discrecion shalt the chambers be fylled with all costly and pleasaunt ryches.
24:5A wyse man is euer stronge, yee, a man of vnderstanding encreaseth of strength.
24:6For with discrecyon must warres be taken in hande, & where as are many that can geue councell, there is the victory.
24:7Wysdom is to hye a thinge for a fole, for he darre not open his mouth in the gate.
24:8He that ymagyneth myschefe, maye welbe called an vngracious personne.
24:9The thought of the foolysh is synne, & the scornefull is an abhominacion vnto men.
24:10If thou be ouersene and negligent in tyme of nede, then is thy strength but smal.
24:11Deliuer them that go vnto death, & are led awaye to be slayne, & be not neglygent therin yf thou be able to do them good.
24:12If thou wilt saye: I knewe not of it. Thinkest thou that he which made the hertes, doth not considre it? & that he which regardeth thy soule, seeth it not? Shall not be recompence euery man according to his worckes?
24:13My sonne, thou eatest hony & the swete hony combe, because it is good & swete in thy mouth.
24:14Euen so shall the knowledge of wysdome be vnto thy soule, assone as thou hast gotten it. And thow shalt haue longe dayes, yee, thy hope shall not be in vayne.
24:15Laye no preuy wayte (o wicked man) vpon the house of the ryghteous & disquiete not his restyng place.
24:16For a iust man falleth seuen tymes, & ryseth vp agayne, but the vngodly fall into wyckednes.
24:17Reioyce not thou at the fall of thyne enemye, & lett not thyne herte be glad when he stombleth.
24:18Lest the Lord (when seith it) be angrye, and turne hys wrath from hym vnto the.
24:19Let not thy wrath & gelousy moue the, to folowe the wycked & vngodly.
24:20And why? the wicked shall haue no posterite, and the candle of the vngodly shall be put out.
24:21My sonne, feare thou the Lord & the kynge, & kepe no company wt them that slyde backe from his feare:
24:22for theyr destruccion shall come sodenly, & who knoweth the aduersyte that maye come from them both?
24:23These are also the sayenges of the wyse. It is not good, to haue respecte of any persone in iudgement.
24:24He that sayeth to the vngodly: thou arte ryghteous hym shall the people curse, yee, the comentie shall abhorre him.
24:25But they that rebuke the vngodly, In them doth God delite, & a ryche blessyng shall come vpon them.
24:26Euery man shall kysse his lyppes, that geueth a good answere.
24:27Fyrst make vp thy worck that is without, & loke well vnto that which thou hast in the felde & then buylde thyne house.
24:28Be no false witnesse agaist thy neyghbour & speake no falshode wt thy lyppes.
24:29Saye not: I will handle him, euen as he hath dealte wt me, & wyll rewarde euery man accordinge to his dedes.
24:30I went by the felde of the slouthfull, & by the vyneiarde of the foolysh man.
24:31And lo, it was all couered wt nettels, & stode full of thystles, & the stone wall was broken downe.
24:32Thys I sawe, & considered it well: I loked vpon it, & toke it for a warnyng.
24:33Yee, slepe on styll a lytle, slombre a lytle, folde thy handes together yet a lytle:
24:34so shall pouerte come vnto the as one that trauayleth by the waye, & necessite lyke a weapened man.

 

24:1Sue thou not yuele men, desire thou not to be with hem.
24:2For the soule of hem bithenkith raueyns, and her lippis speken fraudis.
24:3An hous schal be bildid bi wisdom, and schal be maad strong bi prudence.
24:4Celeris schulen be fillid in teching, al riches preciouse and ful fair.
24:5A wijs man is strong, and a lerned man is stalworth and miyti.
24:6For whi batel is bigunnun with ordenaunce, and helthe schal be, where many counsels ben.
24:7Wisdom is hiy to a fool; in the yate he schal not opene his mouth.
24:8He that thenkith to do yuels, schal be clepid a fool.
24:9The thouyte of a fool is synne; and a bacbitere is abhomynacioun of men.
24:10If thou that hast slide, dispeirist in the dai of angwisch, thi strengthe schal be maad lesse.
24:11Delyuere thou hem, that ben led to deth; and ceesse thou not to delyuere hem, that ben drawun to deth.
24:12If thou seist, Strengthis suffisen not; he that is biholdere of the herte, vndirstondith, and no thing disseyueth the kepere of thi soule, and he schal yelde to a man bi hise werkis.
24:13Mi sone, ete thou hony, for it is good; and an honycomb ful swete to thi throte.
24:14`So and the techyng of wisdom is good to thi soule; and whanne thou hast founde it, thou schalt haue hope in the laste thingis, and thin hope schal not perische.
24:15Aspie thou not, and seke not wickidnesse in the hous of a iust man, nether waste thou his reste.
24:16For a iust man schal falle seuene sithis in the dai, and schal rise ayen; but wickid men schulen falle in to yuele.
24:17Whanne thin enemye fallith, haue thou not ioye; and thin herte haue not ful out ioiyng in his fal;
24:18lest perauenture the Lord se, and it displese hym, and he take awei his ire fro hym.
24:19Stryue thou not with `the worste men, nether sue thou wickid men.
24:20For whi yuele men han not hope of thingis to comynge, and the lanterne of wickid men schal be quenchid.
24:21My sone, drede thou God, and the kyng; and be thou not medlid with bacbiteris.
24:22For her perdicioun schal rise togidere sudenli, and who knowith the fal of euer either?
24:23Also these thingis that suen ben to wise men. It is not good to knowe a persoone in doom.
24:24Puplis schulen curse hem, that seien to a wickid man, Thou art iust; and lynagis schulen holde hem abhomynable.
24:25Thei that repreuen iustli synners, schulen be preisid; and blessing schal come on hem.
24:26He that answerith riytful wordis, schal kisse lippis.
24:27Make redi thi werk with outforth, and worche thi feelde dilygentli, that thou bilde thin hous aftirward.
24:28Be thou not a witnesse with out resonable cause ayens thi neiybore; nether flatere thou ony man with thi lippis.
24:29Seie thou not, As he dide to me, so Y schal do to him, and Y schal yelde to ech man aftir his werk.
24:30I passide bi the feeld of a slow man, and bi the vyner of a fonned man; and, lo!
24:31nettlis hadden fillid al, thornes hadden hilid the hiyere part therof, and the wal of stoonys with out morter was distried.
24:32And whanne Y hadde seyn this thing, Y settide in myn herte, and bi ensaumple Y lernyde techyng.
24:33Hou longe slepist thou, slow man? whanne schalt thou ryse fro sleep? Sotheli thou schalt slepe a litil, thou schalt nappe a litil, thou schalt ioyne togidere the hondis a litil, to take reste;
24:34and thi nedynesse as a currour schal come to thee, and thi beggerie as an armed man.

24:10Yf thou be ouersene & necliget in tyme of nede, the is thy stregth but small.
24:11Delyuer the yt go vnto death, & are led awaie to be slaine, & be not necliget therin.
24:12Yf thou wilt saye: I knewe not of it. Thynkest thou yt he which made ye hertes, doth not cosidre it? & yt he which regardeth yi soule, seith it not? Shal not he recopence euery man acordinge to his workes?
24:13My sonne, thou eatest hony & ye swete hony cobe, because it is good & swete in thy mouth.
24:14Euen so shall ye knowlege of wysdome be vnto yi soule, as soone as thou hast gotte it. And there is good hope, yee yi hope shal not be in vayne.
24:15Laye no preuy waite wickedly vpon ye house of ye rightuous, & disquiete not his restinge place.
24:16For a iust ma falleth seuen tymes, & ryseth vp agayne, but ye vngodly fall in to wickednes.
24:17Reioyce not thou at ye fall of thine enemie, and let not thine herte be glad whan he stombleth.
24:18Lest ye LORDE (when he seyth it) be angrie, & turne his wrath from him vnto the.
24:19Let not yi wrath & gelousy moue ye, to foolow ye wicked and vngodly.
24:20And why? ye wicked hath nothinge to hope for, & ye cadle of the vngodly shall be put out.
24:21My sonne, feare thou ye LORDE & ye kinge, & kepe no copany wt ye slaunderous:
24:22for their destruccion shal come sodenly, & who knoweth ye fall of the both?
24:23These are also ye saieges of ye wyse. It is not good, to haue respecte of any personne in iudgmet.
24:24He yt saieth to ye vngodly: thou art rightuous, him shall the people curse, yee ye comotie shal abhorre him.
24:25But they yt rebuke ye vngodly shalbe comended, & a riche blessinge shal come vpo the.
24:26He maketh him self to be well loued, that geueth a good answere.
24:27First make vp yi worke yt is wt out, & loke well vnto yt which thou hast in ye felde, & the buylde thine house.
24:28Be no false wytnesse agaynst yi neghbor, & hurte him not wt yi lyppes.
24:29Saye not: I wil hadle him, eue as he hath dealte wt me, & wil rewarde euery ma acordinge to his dedes.
24:30I wente by ye felde of ye slouthfull, & by ye vynyarde of the foolish ma.
24:31And lo, it was all couered wt nettels, & stode full of thistles, & ye stone wall was broke downe.
24:32This I sawe, & cosidered it wel: I loked vpo it, & toke it for a warnynge.
24:33Yee slepe on still a litle, slobre a litle, folde thine hodes together yet a litle:
24:34so shall pouerte come vnto the as one yt trauayleth by ye waye, & necessite like a wapened man.
