7:1 | A Good name is better then precious ointment: and the day of death, then the day of ones birth. |
7:2 | It is better to goe to the house of mourning, then to goe to the house of feasting: for that is the end of all men, and the liuing will lay it to his heart. |
7:3 | Sorrow is better then laughter: for by the sadnesse of the countenance the heart is made better. |
7:4 | The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning: but the heart of fooles is in the house of mirth. |
7:5 | It is better to heare the rebuke of the wise, then for a man to heare the song of fooles. |
7:6 | For as the crackling of thornes vnder a pot, so is the laughter of the foole: this also is vanitie. |
7:7 | Surely oppression maketh a wise man mad: and a gift destroyeth the heart. |
7:8 | Better is the ende of a thing then the beginning thereof: and the patient in spirit is better then the proude in spirit. |
7:9 | Be not hastie in thy spirit to bee angry: for anger resteth in the bosome of fooles. |
7:10 | Say not thou, What is the cause that the former dayes were better then these? For thou doest not enquire wisely concerning this. |
7:11 | Wisedome is good with an inheritance: and by it there is profite to them that see the sunne. |
7:12 | For wisedome is a defence, and money is a defence: but the excellencie of knowledge is, that wisedome giueth life to them that haue it. |
7:13 | Consider the worke of God: for who can make that straight, which hee hath made crooked? |
7:14 | In the day of prosperitie be ioyfull, but in the day of aduersitie consider: God also hath set the one ouer against the other, to the end that man should find nothing after him. |
7:15 | All things haue I seene in the dayes of my vanitie: there is a iust man that perisheth in his righteousnes, and there is a wicked man that prolongeth his life in his wickednes. |
7:16 | Be not righteous ouer much, neither make thy selfe ouer wise: why shouldest thou destroy thy selfe? |
7:17 | Be not ouermuch wicked, neither be thou foolish: why shouldest thou die before thy time? |
7:18 | It is good that thou shouldest take holde of this, yea also from this withdraw not thine hand: for hee that feareth God, shall come foorth of them all. |
7:19 | Wisedome strengtheneth the wise, more then ten mightie men which are in the citie. |
7:20 | For there is not a iust man vpon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not. |
7:21 | Also take no heede vnto all words that are spoken; lest thou heare thy seruant curse thee. |
7:22 | For often times also thine owne heart knoweth, that thou thy selfe likewise hast cursed others. |
7:23 | All this haue I prooued by wisedome: I said, I will be wise, but it was farre from me. |
7:24 | That which is farre off, and exceeding deepe, who can finde it out? |
7:25 | I applyed mine heart to know, and to search, and to seeke out wisdome, and the reason of things, aud to know the wickednes of folly, euen of foolishnesse and madnesse. |
7:26 | And I finde more bitter then death, the woman whose heart is snares & nets, and her handes as bands: who so pleaseth God, shall escape from her, but the sinner shall be taken by her. |
7:27 | Behold, this haue I found (saith the Preacher) counting one by one to finde out the account: |
7:28 | Which yet my soule seeketh, but I finde not: one man among a thousand haue I found, but a woman among all those haue I not found. |
7:29 | Loe, this onely haue I found, that God hath made man vpright: but they haue sought out many inuentions. |

7:5 | It is better to geue eare to the chastening of a wyse man, then to heare the songue of fooles |
7:6 | For the laughyng of fooles is like the cracking of thornes vnder a pot: and that is but a vayne thing |
7:7 | The wyse man hateth wrong dealing, and abhorreth the heart that coueteth rewardes |
7:8 | Better is it to consider the ende of a thing then the beginning: The pacient of spirite, is better then the hye minded |
7:9 | Be not hastyly angrie in thy minde: for wrath resteth in the bosome of fooles |
7:10 | Say not thou, What is the cause that the dayes of the old time were better then they that be nowe? for that were no wyse question |
7:11 | Wysdome with inheritaunce is good, yet better is it with them that without care may beholde the sunne |
7:12 | For wysdome defendeth aswell as money, and the excellent knowledge & wysdome geueth lyfe vnto hym that hath it in possession |
7:13 | Consider the worke of God, how that no man can make the thing straight, whiche he maketh crooked |
7:14 | Use well the tyme of prosperitie, and remember the tyme of misfortune: for God doth so temper the one and the other, that a man can finde nothing els |
7:15 | All thinges haue I considered in the time of my vanitie: that the iust man perisheth for his righteousnesse sake, & the vngodly liueth in his wickednesse |
7:16 | Therfore be thou neither to righteous nor ouer wyse, that thou perishe not |
7:17 | Be neither to vnrighteous also nor to foolishe, lest thou die before thy time |
7:18 | It is good for thee to take holde of this, and not to let that go out of thy hande: For he that feareth God, commeth foorth with them all |
7:19 | Wysdome geueth more courage vnto the wyse, then ten mightie men of the citie |
7:20 | For there is not one iust vpon earth that doth good, and sinneth not |
7:21 | Take no heede vnto euery word that is spoken, lest thou heare thy seruaunt curse thee |
7:22 | for thyne owne heart knoweth that thou thy self also hast ofttimes spoken euyll by other men |
7:23 | All these thinges haue I proued in wysdome, for I thought to be wyse, but she went farther from me then she was before |
7:24 | yea and so deepe, that I might not reache vnto her |
7:25 | I applied my minde also vnto knowledge, and to seeke and searche out science, wysdome, and vnderstanding, to knowe the foolishnesse of the vngodly, and the errour of doting fooles |
7:26 | And I founde that a woman is bitterer then death, the whiche hath cast abrode her heart as a net that men fishe with, and her handes are chaynes: Who so pleaseth God shall escape from her, but the sinner wyll be taken with her |
7:27 | Beholde (saith the preacher) this haue I diligently searched out and proued: One thing must be considered with another, that a man may come by knowledge |
7:28 | which as yet I seeke, and finde it not. Among a thousande men I haue founde one: but not one woman among all |
7:29 | Lo this onlye haue I founde, that God made man iust and right: but they sought many inuentions |
7:1 | Surely there be many things that increase vanitie: and what auaileth it man? |
7:2 | For who knoweth what is good for man in the life and in the nomber of the dayes of the life of his vanitie, seeing he maketh them as a shadowe? For who can shewe vnto man what shall be after him vnder the sunne? |
7:3 | A good name is better then a good oyntment, and the day of death, then the day that one is borne. |
7:4 | It is better to goe to the house of mourning, then to goe to the house of feasting, because this is the ende of all men: and the liuing shall lay it to his heart. |
7:5 | Anger is better then laughter: for by a sad looke the heart is made better. |
7:6 | The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning: but the heart of fooles is in the house of mirth. |

7:8 | For like ye noyse of the thornes vnder the pot, so is the laughter of the foole: this also is vanitie. |

7:14 | For man shall rest in the shadowe of wisedome, and in the shadowe of siluer: but the excellencie of the knowledge of wisedome giueth life to the possessers thereof. |
7:15 | Beholde the worke of God: for who can make straight that which he hath made crooked? |
7:16 | In the day of wealth be of good comfort, and in the day of affliction consider: God also hath made this contrary to that, to the intent that man shoulde finde nothing after him. |
7:17 | I haue seene all things in the dayes of my vanitie: there is a iust man that perisheth in his iustice, and there is a wicked man that continueth long in his malice. |
7:18 | Be not thou iust ouermuch, neither make thy selfe ouerwise: wherefore shouldest thou be desolate? |
7:19 | Be not thou wicked ouermuch, neither be thou foolish: wherefore shouldest thou perish not in thy time? |
7:20 | It is good that thou lay hold on this: but yet withdrawe not thine hand from that: for he that feareth God, shall come forth of them all. |
7:21 | Wisedome shall strengthen the wise man more then ten mightie princes that are in ye citie. |
7:22 | Surely there is no man iust in the earth, that doeth good and sinneth not. |
7:23 | Giue not thine heart also to all ye wordes that men speake, lest thou doe heare thy seruant cursing thee. |
7:24 | For often times also thine heart knoweth that thou likewise hast cursed others. |
7:25 | All this haue I prooued by wisedome: I thought I will be wise, but it went farre from me. |
7:26 | It is farre off, what may it be? and it is a profound deepenesse, who can finde it? |
7:27 | I haue compassed about, both I and mine heart to knowe and to enquire and to search wisedome, and reason, and to knowe the wickednesse of follie, and the foolishnesse of madnesse, |
7:28 | And I finde more bitter then death the woman whose heart is as nettes and snares, and her handes, as bands: he that is good before God, shalbe deliuered from her, but the sinner shall be taken by her. |
7:29 | Beholde, sayth the Preacher, this haue I found, seeking one by one to finde the count: (Ecclesiastes ) And yet my soule seeketh, but I finde it not: I haue found one man of a thousand: but a woman among them all haue I not founde. : (Ecclesiastes ) Onely loe, this haue I founde, that God hath made man righteous: but they haue sought many inuentions. : |
