| 10:1 | Wo `to' those decreeing decrees of iniquity, And writers who have prescribed perverseness. |
| 10:2 | To turn aside from judgment the poor, And to take violently away the judgment Of the afflicted of My people, That widows may be their prey, That the fatherless they may spoil. |
| 10:3 | And what do ye at a day of inspection? And at desolation? -- from afar it cometh. Near whom do ye flee for help? And where do ye leave your honour? |
| 10:4 | Without Me it hath bowed down In the place of a bound one, And in the place of the slain they fall. With all this not turned back hath His anger, And still His hand is stretched out. |
| 10:5 | Wo `to' Asshur, a rod of Mine anger, And a staff in their hand `is' Mine indignation. |
| 10:6 | Against a profane nation I send him, And concerning a people of My wrath I charge him, To spoil spoil, and to seize prey, And to make it a treading-place as the clay of out places. |
| 10:7 | And he -- he thinketh not so, And his heart reckoneth not so, For -- to destroy `is' in his heart, And to cut off nations not a few. |
| 10:8 | For he saith, `Are not my princes altogether kings? |
| 10:9 | Is not Calno as Carchemish? Is not Hamath as Arpad? Is not Samaria as Damascus? |
| 10:10 | As my hand hath got to the kingdoms of a worthless thing, and their graven images, `Greater' than Jerusalem and than Samaria, |
| 10:11 | Do I not -- as I have done to Samaria, And to her worthless things, So do to Jerusalem and to her grievous things? |
| 10:12 | And it hath come to pass, When the Lord doth fulfil all His work In mount Zion and in Jerusalem, I see concerning the fruit of the greatness Of the heart of the king of Asshur. And concerning the glory of the height of his eyes. |
| 10:13 | For he hath said, `By the power of my hand I have wrought, And by my wisdom, for I have been intelligent, And I remove borders of the peoples, And their chief ones I have spoiled, And I put down as a mighty one the inhabitants, |
| 10:14 | And my hand as to a nest Getteth to the wealth of the peoples, And as a gathering of forsaken eggs All the earth I -- I have gathered, And there hath not been one moving wing, Or opening mouth, or whispering.' |
| 10:15 | -- Doth the axe glorify itself Against him who is hewing with it? Doth the saw magnify itself Against him who is shaking it? As a rod waving those lifting it up! As a staff lifting up that which is not wood! |
| 10:16 | Therefore doth the Lord, the Lord of Hosts, Send among his fat ones leanness, And under his honour He kindleth a burning As the burning of a fire. |
| 10:17 | And the light of Israel hath been for a fire, And his Holy One for a flame, And it hath burned, and devoured his thorn And his brier in one day. |
| 10:18 | And the honour of his forest, and his fruitful field, From soul even unto flesh He doth consume, And it hath been as the fainting of a standard-bearer. |
| 10:19 | And the rest of the trees of his forest `are' few, And a youth doth write them. |
| 10:20 | And it hath come to pass, in that day, The remnant of Israel, And the escaped of the house of Jacob, Do not add any more to lean on its smiter, And have leant on Jehovah, The Holy One of Israel, in truth. |
| 10:21 | A remnant returneth -- a remnant of Jacob, Unto the Mighty God. |
| 10:22 | For though thy people Israel be as the sand of the sea, A remnant doth return of it, A consumption determined, Overflowing `with' righteousness. |
| 10:23 | For a consumption that is determined, The Lord, Jehovah of Hosts, Is making in the midst of all the land. |
| 10:24 | Therefore, thus said the Lord, Jehovah of Hosts, `Be not afraid, my people, inhabiting Zion, because of Asshur, With a rod he doth smite thee, And his staff lifteth up against thee, in the way of Egypt. |
| 10:25 | For yet a very little, And the indignation hath been completed, And Mine anger by their wearing out. |
| 10:26 | And awaking for him is Jehovah of Hosts, A scourge like the smiting of Midian at the rock Oreb, And his rod `is' over the sea, And he hath lifted it in the way of Egypt. |
| 10:27 | And it hath come to pass, in that day, Turned is his burden from off thy shoulder, And his yoke from off thy neck, And destroyed hath been the yoke, because of prosperity. |
| 10:28 | He hath come in against Aiath, He hath passed over into Migron, At Michmash he looketh after his vessels. |
| 10:29 | They have gone over the passage, Geba they have made a lodging place, Trembled hath Rama, Gibeah of Saul fled. |
| 10:30 | Cry aloud `with' thy voice, daughter of Gallim, Give attention, Laish! answer her, Anathoth. |
| 10:31 | Fled away hath Madmenah, The inhabitants of the high places have hardened themselves. |
| 10:32 | Yet to-day in Nob to remain, Wave its hand doth the mount of the daughter of Zion, The hill of Jerusalem. |
| 10:33 | Lo, the Lord, Jehovah of Hosts, Is lopping a branch with violence, And the high of stature are cut down, And the lofty are become low, |
| 10:34 | And He hath gone round the thickets of the forest with iron, And Lebanon by a mighty one falleth! |
| 10:1 | Woe unto them that decree unrighteous decrees, and that write grievousness which they have prescribed; |
| 10:2 | To turn aside the needy from judgment, and to take away the right from the poor of my people, that widows may be their prey, and that they may rob the fatherless! |
| 10:3 | And what will ye do in the day of visitation, and in the desolation which shall come from far? to whom will ye flee for help? and where will ye leave your glory? |
| 10:4 | Without me they shall bow down under the prisoners, and they shall fall under the slain. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still. |
| 10:5 | O Assyrian, the rod of mine anger, and the staff in their hand is mine indignation. |
| 10:6 | I will send him against an hypocritical nation, and against the people of my wrath will I give him a charge, to take the spoil, and to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets. |
| 10:7 | Howbeit he meaneth not so, neither doth his heart think so; but it is in his heart to destroy and cut off nations not a few. |
| 10:8 | For he saith, Are not my princes altogether kings? |
| 10:9 | Is not Calno as Carchemish? is not Hamath as Arpad? is not Samaria as Damascus? |
| 10:10 | As my hand hath found the kingdoms of the idols, and whose graven images did excel them of Jerusalem and of Samaria: |
| 10:11 | Shall I not, as I have done unto Samaria and her idols, so do to Jerusalem and her idols? |
| 10:12 | Wherefore it shall come to pass, that when the Lord hath performed his whole work upon mount Zion and on Jerusalem, I will punish the fruit of the stout heart of the king of Assyria, and the glory of his high looks. |
| 10:13 | For he saith, By the strength of my hand I have done it, and by my wisdom; for I am prudent: and I have removed the bounds of the people, and have robbed their treasures, and I have put down the inhabitants like a valiant man: |
| 10:14 | And my hand hath found as a nest the riches of the people: and as one gathereth eggs that are left, have I gathered all the earth; and there was none that moved the wing, or opened the mouth, or peeped. |
| 10:15 | Shall the ax boast itself against him that heweth therewith? or shall the saw magnify itself against him that shaketh it? as if the rod should shake itself against them that lift it up, or as if the staff should lift up itself, as if it were no wood. |
| 10:16 | Therefore shall the Lord, the Lord of hosts, send among his fat ones leanness; and under his glory he shall kindle a burning like the burning of a fire. |
| 10:17 | And the light of Israel shall be for a fire, and his Holy One for a flame: and it shall burn and devour his thorns and his briers in one day; |
| 10:18 | And shall consume the glory of his forest, and of his fruitful field, both soul and body: and they shall be as when a standardbearer fainteth. |
| 10:19 | And the rest of the trees of his forest shall be few, that a child may write them. |
| 10:20 | And it shall come to pass in that day, that the remnant of Israel, and such as are escaped of the house of Jacob, shall no more again stay upon him that smote them; but shall stay upon the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, in truth. |
| 10:21 | The remnant shall return, even the remnant of Jacob, unto the mighty God. |
| 10:22 | For though thy people Israel be as the sand of the sea, yet a remnant of them shall return: the consumption decreed shall overflow with righteousness. |
| 10:23 | For the Lord GOD of hosts shall make a consumption, even determined, in the midst of all the land. |
| 10:24 | Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD of hosts, O my people that dwellest in Zion, be not afraid of the Assyrian: he shall smite thee with a rod, and shall lift up his staff against thee, after the manner of Egypt. |
| 10:25 | For yet a very little while, and the indignation shall cease, and mine anger in their destruction. |
| 10:26 | And the LORD of hosts shall stir up a scourge for him according to the slaughter of Midian at the rock of Oreb: and as his rod was upon the sea, so shall he lift it up after the manner of Egypt. |
| 10:27 | And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing. |
| 10:28 | He is come to Aiath, he is passed to Migron; at Michmash he hath laid up his carriages: |
| 10:29 | They are gone over the passage: they have taken up their lodging at Geba; Ramah is afraid; Gibeah of Saul is fled. |
| 10:30 | Lift up thy voice, O daughter of Gallim: cause it to be heard unto Laish, O poor Anathoth. |
| 10:31 | Madmenah is removed; the inhabitants of Gebim gather themselves to flee. |
| 10:32 | As yet shall he remain at Nob that day: he shall shake his hand against the mount of the daughter of Zion, the hill of Jerusalem. |
| 10:33 | Behold, the Lord, the LORD of hosts, shall lop the bough with terror: and the high ones of stature shall be hewn down, and the haughty shall be humbled. |
| 10:34 | And he shall cut down the thickets of the forest with iron, and Lebanon shall fall by a mighty one. |
| 10:1 | Woe to those who decree decrees of injustice, and writers who write toil; |
| 10:2 | to keep back the poor from judgment, and to steal justice from the poor of My people; that widows may be their prey; that they may rob orphans. |
| 10:3 | And what will you do in the day of visitation and of destruction? It comes from far away. To whom will you flee for help? And where will you leave your glory? |
| 10:4 | Surely, he will grovel under the prisoners, and they will fall under the slain. In all this His anger does not turn away, but His hand is still stretched out. |
| 10:5 | Woe to Assyria, the rod of My anger! And My fury is the staff in their hand. |
| 10:6 | I will send him against an ungodly nation, and against the people of My wrath. I will command him to plunder, and to strip off spoil, and to trample them like the mud of the streets. |
| 10:7 | Yet he does not purpose this, nor does his heart think so. For it is in his heart to destroy, and to cut off not a few nations. |
| 10:8 | For he says, Are not my commanders all like kings? |
| 10:9 | Is not Calno like Carchemish? Is Hamath not like Arpad? Is Samaria not like Damascus? |
| 10:10 | As my hand has found the kingdoms of the idols (for their carved images excelled Jerusalem's and Samaria's); |
| 10:11 | shall I not do to Jerusalem and her idols as I have done to Samaria and her idols? |
| 10:12 | And it will be, when the Lord has broken off all His work on Mount Zion and on Jerusalem, I will visit on the fruit of the proud heart of the king of Assyria, and on the glory of his lofty eyes. |
| 10:13 | For he says, I have worked by the strength of my hand and by my wisdom; for I am wise. And I take away the borders of peoples, and have robbed their treasures. And like a mighty one, I subdue inhabitants. |
| 10:14 | And my hand has found the riches of the people. Like a nest, I also have gathered all the earth, as forsaken eggs are gathered. And there was not one moving a wing, or opening a mouth, or one chirping. |
| 10:15 | Shall the axe glorify itself over him chopping with it? Or shall the saw magnify itself over him moving it? As if a rod could wave those who lift it . As if a staff could raise what is not wood! |
| 10:16 | So the Lord, Jehovah of Hosts, shall send leanness among his fat ones. And under His glory He will kindle a burning like the burning of fire. |
| 10:17 | And the Light of Israel shall be for a fire, and his Holy One for a flame; and it shall burn and devour his thorns and briers in one day. |
| 10:18 | And He shall consume the glory of his forest and his fruitful field, even from soul to flesh; and it shall be as a sick man melts away. |
| 10:19 | And the rest of the trees of the forest shall be few, so that a boy might write them. |
| 10:20 | And it shall be in that day, the remnant of Israel, and the escaped ones from the house of Jacob, shall not any more lean on him who struck him. But they will truly lean on Jehovah, the Holy One of Israel. |
| 10:21 | The remnant shall return, the remnant of Jacob, to the mighty God. |
| 10:22 | For though Your people Israel is like the sand of the sea, only a remnant of it shall return; a determined end, overflowing with righteousness. |
| 10:23 | For the Lord Jehovah of Hosts is making a full end, even ordained, in the midst of all the land. |
| 10:24 | So the Lord Jehovah of Hosts says this: Oh My people who dwell in Zion, do not fear Assyria. He shall strike you with the rod, and he shall lift up his staff against you in the way of Egypt. |
| 10:25 | But yet a little while, and the fury is finished; and My anger shall be over their destruction. |
| 10:26 | And Jehovah of Hosts shall stir up a whip on him, according to the striking of Midian at the rock Oreb; and as His rod was on the sea, and He lifted it up in the way of Egypt. |
| 10:27 | And it shall be in that day, his burden shall turn away from on your shoulder, and his yoke from your neck; and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing. |
| 10:28 | He has come to Aiath; he has passed to Migron; he has left his baggage at Michmash. |
| 10:29 | They have crossed the ford; they have bedded down at Geba; Ramah is afraid; Gibeah of Saul has fled. |
| 10:30 | Shriek with your voice, daughter of ruins; bow, Laish, afflicted of Anathoth. |
| 10:31 | Madmenah wanders; Gebim's inhabitants take refuge. |
| 10:32 | Yet he remains in Nob today; he will shake his hand against the mount of the daughter of Zion, the hill of Jerusalem. |
| 10:33 | Behold, the Lord, Jehovah of Hosts, shall lop the bough of terror! And the lofty ones shall be cut down, and the proud shall be humbled. |
| 10:34 | And He shall cut down the thickets of the forest with iron, and Lebanon shall fall by a mighty one. |
