Isaiah - Chapter: 42


42:1	Behold my servant, whom I uphold; mine elect, in whom my soul delighteth; I have put my spirit upon him: he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles.
42:2	He shall not cry, nor lift up, nor cause his voice to be heard in the street.
42:3	A bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not quench: he shall bring forth judgment unto truth.
42:4	He shall not fail nor be discouraged, till he have set judgment in the earth: and the isles shall wait for his law.
42:5	Thus saith God the LORD, he that created the heavens, and stretched them out; he that spread forth the earth, and that which cometh out of it; he that giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein:
42:6	I the LORD have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles;
42:7	To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house.
42:8	I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.
42:9	Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them.
42:10	Sing unto the LORD a new song, and his praise from the end of the earth, ye that go down to the sea, and all that is therein; the isles, and the inhabitants thereof.
42:11	Let the wilderness and the cities thereof lift up their voice, the villages that Kedar doth inhabit: let the inhabitants of the rock sing, let them shout from the top of the mountains.
42:12	Let them give glory unto the LORD, and declare his praise in the islands.
42:13	The LORD shall go forth as a mighty man, he shall stir up jealousy like a man of war: he shall cry, yea, roar; he shall prevail against his enemies.
42:14	I have long time holden my peace; I have been still, and refrained myself: now will I cry like a travailing woman; I will destroy and devour at once.
42:15	I will make waste mountains and hills, and dry up all their herbs; and I will make the rivers islands, and I will dry up the pools.
42:16	And I will bring the blind by a way that they knew not; I will lead them in paths that they have not known: I will make darkness light before them, and crooked things straight. These things will I do unto them, and not forsake them.
42:17	They shall be turned back, they shall be greatly ashamed, that trust in graven images, that say to the molten images, Ye are our gods.
42:18	Hear, ye deaf; and look, ye blind, that ye may see.
42:19	Who is blind, but my servant? or deaf, as my messenger that I sent? who is blind as he that is perfect, and blind as the LORD's servant?
42:20	Seeing many things, but thou observest not; opening the ears, but he heareth not.
42:21	The LORD is well pleased for his righteousness' sake; he will magnify the law, and make it honourable.
42:22	But this is a people robbed and spoiled; they are all of them snared in holes, and they are hid in prison houses: they are for a prey, and none delivereth; for a spoil, and none saith, Restore.
42:23	Who among you will give ear to this? who will hearken and hear for the time to come?
42:24	Who gave Jacob for a spoil, and Israel to the robbers? did not the LORD, he against whom we have sinned? for they would not walk in his ways, neither were they obedient unto his law.
42:25	Therefore he hath poured upon him the fury of his anger, and the strength of battle: and it hath set him on fire round about, yet he knew not; and it burned him, yet he laid it not to heart.


42:1	Behold, my seruaunt: I will stay vpon him: mine elect, in whom my soule deliteth: I haue put my Spirit vpon him: he shall bring forth iudgement to the Gentiles.
42:2	He shall not crie, nor lift vp, nor cause his voice to be heard in the streete.
42:3	A bruised reede shall hee not breake, and the smoking flaxe shall he not quench: he shall bring foorth iudgement in trueth.
42:4	He shall not faile nor be discouraged till he haue set iudgement in the earth: and the yles shall waite for his lawe.
42:5	Thus sayeth God the Lord (he that created the heauens and spred them abroad: he that stretched foorth the earth, and the buddes thereof: he that giueth breath vnto the people vpon it, and spirit to them that walke therein)
42:6	I the Lord haue called thee in righteousnesse, and will hold thine hand, and I will keepe thee, and giue thee for a couenant of the people, and for a light of the Gentiles,
42:7	That thou maist open the eyes of the blind, and bring out the prisoners from the prison: and them that sitte in darkenesse, out of the prison house.
42:8	I am the Lord, this is my Name, and my glory wil I not giue to another, neither my praise to grauen images.
42:9	Beholde, the former thinges are come to passe, and newe things doe I declare: before they come foorth, I tell you of them.
42:10	Sing vnto the Lord a newe song, and his praise from the ende of the earth: yee that goe downe to the sea, and all that is therein: the yles and the inhabitants thereof.
42:11	Let the wildernesse and the cities thereof lift vp their voyce, the townes that Kedar doeth inhabite: let the inhabitants of the rocks sing: let them shoute from the toppe of the mountaines.
42:12	Let them giue glorie vnto the Lord, and declare his praise in the ylands.
42:13	The Lord shall go forth as a gyant: he shall stirre vp his courage like a man of warre: he shall shout and crie, and shall preuaile against his enemies.
42:14	I haue a long time holden my peace: I haue beene still and refrained my selfe: nowe will I crie like a trauailing woman: I will destroy and deuoure at once.
42:15	I will make waste mountaines, and hilles, and drie vp all their herbes, and I will make the floods ylands, and I will drie vp the pooles.
42:16	And I will bring the blinde by a way, that they knewe not, and lead them by paths that they haue not knowen: I will make darkenesse light before them, and crooked thinges straight. These thinges will I doe vnto them, and not forsake them.
42:17	They shall be turned backe: they shall be greatly ashamed, that trust in grauen images, and say to the molten images, Yee are our gods.
42:18	Heare, ye deafe: and ye blinde, regarde, that ye may see.
42:19	Who is blinde but my seruaunt? or deafe as my messenger, that I sent? who is blind as the perfit, and blinde as the Lordes seruant?
42:20	Seeing many things, but thou keepest them not? opening the eares, but he heareth not?
42:21	The Lord is willing for his righteousnesse sake that he may magnifie the Lawe, and exalt it.
42:22	But this people is robbed and spoiled, and shalbe all snared in dungeons, and they shalbe hid in prison houses: they shall be for a pray, and none shall deliuer: a spoile, and none shall say, Restore.
42:23	Who among you shall hearken to this, and take heede, and heare for afterwardes?
42:24	Who gaue Iaakob for a spoyle, and Israel to the robbers? Did not ye Lord, because we haue sinned against him? for they woulde not walke in his waies, neither be obedient vnto his Lawe.
42:25	Therefore hee hath powred vpon him his fierce wrath, and the strength of battell: and it set him on fire round about, and he knewe not, and it burned him vp, yet he considered not.


42:1	Beholde, this is my seruaunte vpon whom I leane, myne electe, In whom my soule is pacifyed. I haue geuen hym my sprete, that he maye shewe forth iudgement and equitye among the Gentiles.
42:2	He shall not be an outcrier, ner lyfte vp his voyce. His voyce shal not be hearde in the stretes.
42:3	And a brosed rede shall he not breake, and the smoking flaxe shall he not quench: but faythfully and truly shall be geue iudgement,
42:4	not be pensyue nor carefull, that he maye restore ryghteousnes vnto the earth, and the Gentyles also shal kepe his lawes.
42:5	For thus sayeth God the Lorde vnto hym (euen he that made the heauens, and spred them abrode, and set forth the earth wt her increase: which geueth breath vnto the people that is in it, and spirite to them that dwell therin)
42:6	I the Lord haue called the in ryghteousnes, and led the by the hande. Therfore wyll I also defende the, and geue the for a couenaunnt of the people, and to be the lyght of the Gentiles.
42:7	That thou mayest open the eyes of the blynde, let out the prisoners from ther bondes & them that syt in darcknesse, out of the dongeon house.
42:8	Euen I am the Lorde, and this is my name: And my glory wyll I geue to none other, nether myne honoure to grauen ymages.
42:9	Beholde, olde thinges are come to passe, & new thynges do I declare. And or euer they come, I tell you of them.
42:10	Synge vnto the Lorde, a newe songe of thanckesgeuinge, blowe out his prayse from the ende of the worlde. They that be vpon the see, and all that is therin, prayse hym, the Iles and they that dwell in them.
42:11	Let the wyldernes with the cyties lifte vp her voyce, the townes also that they of Cedar dwell in. Lett them be glad that syt vpon rockes of stone, and let them crye downe from the hye mountaynes:
42:12	ascrybynge glorye vnto the Lorde, and magnifyinge hym amonge the Gentyles.
42:13	The Lorde shall come forth as a gyaunte, and take a stomack to him lyke as a fresh man of warre. He shall roare & crie, & ouercome his enemies.
42:14	I haue longe holden my peace (sayeth the Lorde) I haue bene styll and refrayned my selfe, but nowe I wyll crye lyke a trauelynge woman, & at once wyll I destroye, and deuoure.
42:15	I will make wayste both mountayne and hill, & drye vp euery grene thing that groweth theron. I will drye vp the floudes of water, and drincke vp the ryuers.
42:16	I wyll bring the blinde into a strete, that they knowe not. and lede them into a fote path, that they are ignoraunt in. I shall make darcknesse lyght before them, and the thynge that is croked to be streyght. These thinges haue I done vnto them, and not forsaken them:
42:17	They are fallen backe yee, and let them be ashamed earnestly, that hope in Idoles, & saye to fashyoned ymages: ye are oure goddes.
42:18	Heare, O ye deafe men, and sharpen youre syghtes to se (O ye blinde.)
42:19	Who is blinde, but my seruaunt? Or so deafe, as my messaunger, whom I sent vnto them? For who is so blynde (faye they) as the perfecte man and so blynde as the Lordes seruaunte?
42:20	Thou vnderstondest moch, and kepest nothynge: the eares are open, & no man heareth.
42:21	The Lorde is mercyfull vnto them for his ryghteousnesse sake: that his worde myght be magnifyed and praysed.
42:22	But the people them selues is robbed and troden vnder the fote chayned in dongeons and they all (I saye) be shut into preson houses. They be caryed awaye captiue and no man doth lowse them: They be troden vnder fote, and no man doth laboure to bring them agayne.
42:23	But who is he amonge you, that pondreth this, that consydreth it, & taketh it for a warnynge in tyme to come?
42:24	Who suffred Iacob to be troaden vnder fote, and Israel to be spoyled? Dyd not the Lord? Because we haue synned agaynst him & haue had no delyte to walke in his wayes, nether bene obedient vnto his lawe.
42:25	Therfore hath he poured vpon hym hys wrathfull displeasure, and stronge battayll, which fyreth hym on euery syde, yet wyll he not vnderstande. He burneth hym vp, yet syncketh it not into hys herte.
