Jeremiah - Chapter: 6

>
6:1O ye children of Benjamin, gather yourselves to flee out of the midst of Jerusalem, and blow the trumpet in Tekoa, and set up a sign of fire in Bethhaccerem: for evil appeareth out of the north, and great destruction.
6:2I have likened the daughter of Zion to a comely and delicate woman.
6:3The shepherds with their flocks shall come unto her; they shall pitch their tents against her round about; they shall feed every one in his place.
6:4Prepare ye war against her; arise, and let us go up at noon. Woe unto us! for the day goeth away, for the shadows of the evening are stretched out.
6:5Arise, and let us go by night, and let us destroy her palaces.
6:6For thus hath the LORD of hosts said, Hew ye down trees, and cast a mount against Jerusalem: this is the city to be visited; she is wholly oppression in the midst of her.
6:7As a fountain casteth out her waters, so she casteth out her wickedness: violence and spoil is heard in her; before me continually is grief and wounds.
6:8Be thou instructed, O Jerusalem, lest my soul depart from thee; lest I make thee desolate, a land not inhabited.
6:9Thus saith the LORD of hosts, They shall throughly glean the remnant of Israel as a vine: turn back thine hand as a grapegatherer into the baskets.
6:10To whom shall I speak, and give warning, that they may hear? behold, their ear is uncircumcised, and they cannot hearken: behold, the word of the LORD is unto them a reproach; they have no delight in it.
6:11Therefore I am full of the fury of the LORD; I am weary with holding in: I will pour it out upon the children abroad, and upon the assembly of young men together: for even the husband with the wife shall be taken, the aged with him that is full of days.
6:12And their houses shall be turned unto others, with their fields and wives together: for I will stretch out my hand upon the inhabitants of the land, saith the LORD.
6:13For from the least of them even unto the greatest of them every one is given to covetousness; and from the prophet even unto the priest every one dealeth falsely.
6:14They have healed also the hurt of the daughter of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace; when there is no peace.
6:15Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? nay, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore they shall fall among them that fall: at the time that I visit them they shall be cast down, saith the LORD.
6:16Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.
6:17Also I set watchmen over you, saying, Hearken to the sound of the trumpet. But they said, We will not hearken.
6:18Therefore hear, ye nations, and know, O congregation, what is among them.
6:19Hear, O earth: behold, I will bring evil upon this people, even the fruit of their thoughts, because they have not hearkened unto my words, nor to my law, but rejected it.
6:20To what purpose cometh there to me incense from Sheba, and the sweet cane from a far country? your burnt offerings are not acceptable, nor your sacrifices sweet unto me.
6:21Therefore thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will lay stumblingblocks before this people, and the fathers and the sons together shall fall upon them; the neighbour and his friend shall perish.
6:22Thus saith the LORD, Behold, a people cometh from the north country, and a great nation shall be raised from the sides of the earth.
6:23They shall lay hold on bow and spear; they are cruel, and have no mercy; their voice roareth like the sea; and they ride upon horses, set in array as men for war against thee, O daughter of Zion.
6:24We have heard the fame thereof: our hands wax feeble: anguish hath taken hold of us, and pain, as of a woman in travail.
6:25Go not forth into the field, nor walk by the way; for the sword of the enemy and fear is on every side.
6:26O daughter of my people, gird thee with sackcloth, and wallow thyself in ashes: make thee mourning, as for an only son, most bitter lamentation: for the spoiler shall suddenly come upon us.
6:27I have set thee for a tower and a fortress among my people, that thou mayest know and try their way.
6:28They are all grievous revolters, walking with slanders: they are brass and iron; they are all corrupters.
6:29The bellows are burned, the lead is consumed of the fire; the founder melteth in vain: for the wicked are not plucked away.
6:30Reprobate silver shall men call them, because the LORD hath rejected them.

6:1O ye children of Beniamin, prepare to flee out of the middes of Ierusalem, and blowe the trumpet in Tekoa: set vp a standart vpon Beth-haccerem: for a plague appeareth out of the North and great destruction.
6:2I haue compared the daughter of Zion to a beautifull and daintie woman.
6:3The pastors with their flockes shall come vnto her: they shall pitche their tentes rounde about by her, and euery one shall feede in his place.
6:4Prepare warre against her: arise, and let vs goe vp toward the South: wo vnto vs: for the day declineth, and the shadowes of the euening are stretched out.
6:5Arise, and let vs goe vp by night, and destroy her palaces.
6:6For thus hath the Lord of hostes said, Hewe downe wood, and cast a mounte against Ierusalem: this citie must be visited: all oppression is in the middes of it.
6:7As the fountaine casteth out her waters, so she casteth out her malice: crueltie and spoyle is continually heard in her before me with sorowe and strokes.
6:8Be thou instructed, O Ierusalem, lest my soule depart from thee, lest I make thee desolate as a land, that none inhabiteth.
6:9Thus sayeth the Lord of hostes, They shall gather as a vine, the residue of Israel: turne backe thine hande as the grape gatherer into the baskets.
6:10Vnto whome shall I speake, and admonish that they may heare? beholde, their eares are vncircumcised, and they cannot hearken: beholde, the worde of the Lord is vnto them as a reproche: they haue no delite in it.
6:11Therefore I am full of the wrath of the Lord: I am weary with holding it: I will powre it out vpon the children in the streete, and likewise vpon the assembly of the yong men: for the husband shall euen be taken with the wife, and the aged with him that is full of daies.
6:12And their houses with their landes, and wiues also shalbe turned vnto strangers: for I will stretch out mine hande vpon the inhabitants of the land, sayeth the Lord.
6:13For from the least of them, euen vnto the greatest of them, euery one is giuen vnto couetousnesse, and from the Prophet euen vnto the Priest, they all deale falsely.
6:14They haue healed also ye hurt of the daughter of my people with sweete woordes, saying, Peace, peace, when there is no peace.
6:15Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? nay, they were not ashamed, no neither coulde they haue any shame: therefore they shall fall among the slaine: when I shall visite them, they shall be cast downe, sayth the Lord.
6:16Thus sayeth the Lord, Stande in the waies and beholde, and aske for the olde way, which is the good way and walke therein, and yee shall finde rest for your soules: but they saide, We will not walke therein.
6:17Also I set watchmen ouer you, which said, Take heede to the sound of the trumpet: but they said, We will not take heede.
6:18Heare therefore, yee Gentiles, and thou Congregation knowe, what is among them.
6:19Heare, O earth, beholde, I will cause a plague to come vpon this people, euen the fruite of their owne imaginations: because they haue not taken heede vnto my woordes, nor to my Lawe, but cast it off.
6:20To what purpose bringest thou mee incense from Sheba, and sweete calamus from a farre countrey? Your burnt offerings are not pleasant, nor your sacrifices sweete vnto me.
6:21Therefore thus sayeth the Lord, Beholde, I will laie stumbling blockes before this people, and the fathers and the sonnes together shall fall vpon them: the neighbour and his friende shall perish.
6:22Thus sayeth the Lord, Beholde, a people commeth from the North countrey, and a great nation shall arise from the sides of the earth.
6:23With bowe and shield shall they be weaponed: they are cruell and will haue no compassion: their voyce roareth like the sea, and they ride vpon horses, well appointed, like men of warre against thee, O daughter Zion.
6:24We haue heard their fame, and our handes waxe feeble sorrowe is come vpon vs, as the sorrowe of a woman in trauaile.
6:25Goe not foorth into the fielde, nor walke by the way: for the sword of the enemie and feare is on euery side.
6:26O daughter of my people, girde thee with sackecloth, and wallowe thy selfe in the ashes: make lamentation, and bitter mourning as for thine onely sonne: for the destroier shall suddenly come vpon vs.
6:27I haue set thee for a defence and fortresse among my people, that thou maiest knowe and trie their waies.
6:28They are all rebellious traitours, walking craftily: they are brasse, and yron, they all are destroyers.
6:29The bellowes are burnt: the lead is consumed in the fire: the founder melteth in vaine: for the wicked are not taken away.
6:30They shall call them reprobate siluer, because the Lord hath reiected them.

6:1Come out of Ierusalem, ye stronge chyldren of BenIamin: blowe vp the trompettes ye Tecuytes, set vp a token vnto Bethcaran, for a plage and a greate myserye appeareth out from the North.
6:2I wyll lyken the doughter Sion to a fayre and tendre woman, and to her shall come the shepherdes with theyr flockes.
6:3Theyr tentes shall they pytche rounde about her, and euery one shall fede them that are vnder his hande.
6:4Make battayle agaynst her (shall they saye) Aryse, let vs go vp, whyle it is yet daye. Alas, the daye goeth away, and the night shadowes fall downe:
6:5Aryse: let vs go vp by nyght, & destroye her stronge holdes,
6:6for thus hath the Lorde of hoostes commaunded. Hewe downe her trees, and set vp bulworkes agaynst Ierusalem, for the tyme is come that this cytie must be punysshed: for in her is all maliciousnesse.
6:7Lyke as a condyte spouteth oute waters, so she spouteth out her wickednesse. Robberye & vnrightousnesse is herde in her sorowe and woundes are euer there in my syght.
6:8Amend the (O Ierusalem) lest I withdrawe my hert from the, & make the desolate: & thy land also, that noman dwel in it.
6:9For thus saith the Lorde of hoostes. The residue of Israel shalbe gathered, as the remnaunt of grapes. And therfore turne thyne hande agayne into the basket, lyke the grape gatherer.
6:10But vnto whom shall I speake, whom shall I warne that he maye take hede? Their eares are so vncircumcised, that they maye not heare. Beholde, they take the worde of God but for a scorne, & haue no lust therto.
6:11And therfore, I am so full of thyne indignacyon, (O Lord) that I maye suffre no longer. But shede it out vpon the chyldren that are without, and vpon all yonge men. Yee, the man must be taken presoner with the wyfe, & the aged wyth the crepel.
6:12Theyr houses with theyr landes & wyues shallbe turned vnto straungers, when I stretch out myne hande vpon the inhabitatours of this land, sayeth the Lorde.
6:13For from the leest vnto the most, they hange all vpon couetousnesse, & from the prophete vnto the prest, they go all aboute with falsheed and lyes.
6:14And besyde that, they heale the hurt of my people with swete wordes, sayeng: peace, peace, when there is no peace at all.
6:15Were they ashamed when they hadd commytted abhomynacyon? Trulye nay they be past shame? And therfore they shall fall amonge the slayne, & in the houre when I shall vyset them, they shall be brought downe, sayeth the Lorde.
6:16Thus sayeth the Lord: go into the streates, consydre & make inquisicyon for the olde waye: and yf it be the good and ryght waye, then go therin, that ye maye fynde rest for youre soules. But they saye: we wyll not walcke therin,
6:17and I wyll sett wacthmen ouer you, & therfore take hede vnto the voyce of the trompett. But they saye: we wyll not take hede.
6:18Heare therfore ye Gentyles, & thou congregacyon shalt knowe, what I haue deuysed for them.
6:19Heare thou earth also: behold, I will cause a plage to come vpon this people, euen the frute of their awne imaginacions. For they haue not bene obedient vnto my wordes & to my lawe, but abhorred them.
6:20Wherfore, bryng ye me incense from Saba, & swete smellyng Calamus from farre countrees? Your burnt offerynges dysplease me, & I reioyce not in your sacrifyces.
6:21And therfore thus sayeth the Lorde: behold, I wyll make this people fall, and there shall fall from among them the father wt the chyldren, one neyghboure shall peryshe wyth another.
6:22Thus sayeth the Lord, Beholde, there shal come a people from the North, & a great people shal aryse from the endes of the earth,
6:23with bowes and with dartes shall they be weapened. It is a rough & fearce people, & & an vnmercyfull people, theyr voyce roareth lyke the see, they ryde vpon horses well apointed to the battaill agaynst the, O daughter Sion.
6:24The crye of them haue we herde. Oure armes are feble, heuynesse & sorowe is come vp on vs, as vpon a woman trauelyng with chylde.
6:25Let no man go forth into the felde, let no man come vpon the hye strete: for the swearde and feare of the enemy is on euery syde.
6:26Wherfore, gyrde a sack cloth aboute the (O thou daughter of my people) sprynkle thy selfe wt asshes, mourne & wepe bitterly as vpon thy only beloued sonne. For the destroyer shal sodenly fall vpon vs.
6:27The haue I set for a stronge tower (o thou prophete) & a well fensed wall amonge my people, to seke out and to trye theyr wayes.
6:28For they are all stubberne apostates and fallen awaye, walkinge disceitfully, they are cleane brasse & yron, for they hurt & destroye euery man.
6:29The bellous are brent in the fyre, the leade is not molten, the melter melteth in vayne for the euell is not taken awaye from them.
6:30Therfore do they call them naughty syluer, because the Lorde hath cast them out.
