Jeremiah - Chapter: 9

>
9:1Oh that my head were waters, and mine eyes a fountain of tears, that I might weep day and night for the slain of the daughter of my people!
9:2Oh that I had in the wilderness a lodging place of wayfaring men; that I might leave my people, and go from them! for they be all adulterers, an assembly of treacherous men.
9:3And they bend their tongues like their bow for lies: but they are not valiant for the truth upon the earth; for they proceed from evil to evil, and they know not me, saith the LORD.
9:4Take ye heed every one of his neighbour, and trust ye not in any brother: for every brother will utterly supplant, and every neighbour will walk with slanders.
9:5And they will deceive every one his neighbour, and will not speak the truth: they have taught their tongue to speak lies, and weary themselves to commit iniquity.
9:6Thine habitation is in the midst of deceit; through deceit they refuse to know me, saith the LORD.
9:7Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, Behold, I will melt them, and try them; for how shall I do for the daughter of my people?
9:8Their tongue is as an arrow shot out; it speaketh deceit: one speaketh peaceably to his neighbour with his mouth, but in heart he layeth his wait.
9:9Shall I not visit them for these things? saith the LORD: shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?
9:10For the mountains will I take up a weeping and wailing, and for the habitations of the wilderness a lamentation, because they are burned up, so that none can pass through them; neither can men hear the voice of the cattle; both the fowl of the heavens and the beast are fled; they are gone.
9:11And I will make Jerusalem heaps, and a den of dragons; and I will make the cities of Judah desolate, without an inhabitant.
9:12Who is the wise man, that may understand this? and who is he to whom the mouth of the LORD hath spoken, that he may declare it, for what the land perisheth and is burned up like a wilderness, that none passeth through?
9:13And the LORD saith, Because they have forsaken my law which I set before them, and have not obeyed my voice, neither walked therein;
9:14But have walked after the imagination of their own heart, and after Baalim, which their fathers taught them:
9:15Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will feed them, even this people, with wormwood, and give them water of gall to drink.
9:16I will scatter them also among the heathen, whom neither they nor their fathers have known: and I will send a sword after them, till I have consumed them.
9:17Thus saith the LORD of hosts, Consider ye, and call for the mourning women, that they may come; and send for cunning women, that they may come:
9:18And let them make haste, and take up a wailing for us, that our eyes may run down with tears, and our eyelids gush out with waters.
9:19For a voice of wailing is heard out of Zion, How are we spoiled! we are greatly confounded, because we have forsaken the land, because our dwellings have cast us out.
9:20Yet hear the word of the LORD, O ye women, and let your ear receive the word of his mouth, and teach your daughters wailing, and every one her neighbour lamentation.
9:21For death is come up into our windows, and is entered into our palaces, to cut off the children from without, and the young men from the streets.
9:22Speak, Thus saith the LORD, Even the carcases of men shall fall as dung upon the open field, and as the handful after the harvestman, and none shall gather them.
9:23Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches:
9:24But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the LORD.
9:25Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will punish all them which are circumcised with the uncircumcised;
9:26Egypt, and Judah, and Edom, and the children of Ammon, and Moab, and all that are in the utmost corners, that dwell in the wilderness: for all these nations are uncircumcised, and all the house of Israel are uncircumcised in the heart.

9:1Oh, that mine head were full of water and mine eyes a fountaine of teares, that I might weepe day and night for the slayne of the daughter of my people.
9:2Oh, that I had in the wildernes a cottage of wayfaring men, that I might leaue my people, and go from them: for they be all adulterers and an assembly of rebels,
9:3And they bende their tongues like their bowes for lyes: but they haue no courage for the trueth vpon the earth: for they proceede from euill to worse, and they haue not knowen mee, sayth the Lord.
9:4Let euery one take heede of his neighbour, and trust you not in any brother: for euery brother will vse deceite, and euery friend will deale deceitfully,
9:5And euery one wil deceiue his friende, and wil not speake the trueth: for they haue taught their tongues to speake lies, and take great paynes to do wickedly.
9:6Thine habitation is in the middes of deceiuers: because of their deceit they refuse to know me, sayth the Lord.
9:7Therefore thus sayth the Lord of hostes, Behold, I wil melt them, and trie them: for what should I els do for the daughter of my people?
9:8Their tongue is as an arow shot out, and speaketh deceite: one speaketh peaceably to his neighbour with his mouth, but in his heart hee layeth waite for him.
9:9Shal I not visit them for these things, saith the Lord? or shall not my soule be auenged on such a nation as this?
9:10Vpon the mountaines will I take vp a weeping and a lamentation, and vpon the fayre places of the wildernes a mourning, because they are burnt vp: so that none can passe through them, neyther can men heare the voyce of the flocke: both the foule of the aire, and the beast are fled away and gone.
9:11And I wil make Ierusalem an heape, and a den of dragons, and I will make the cities of Iudah waste, without an inhabitant.
9:12Who is wise, to vnderstande this? and to whome the mouth of the Lord hath spoken, euen he shall declare it. Why doth the land perish, and is burnt vp like a wildernesse, that none passeth through?
9:13And the Lord sayeth, Because they haue forsaken my Lawe, which I set before them, and haue not obeyed my voice, neither walked thereafter,
9:14But haue walked after the stubbernesse of their owne heart, and after Baalims, which their fathers taught them,
9:15Therefore thus sayth the Lord of hostes, the God of Israel, Behold, I will feede this people with wormewood, and giue them waters of gall to drinke:
9:16I wil scatter them also among the heathen, whom neither they nor their fathers haue knowen, and I will send a sworde after them, til I haue consumed them.
9:17Thus sayeth the Lord of hostes, Take heede, and call for the mourning women, that they may come, and send for skilfull women that they may come,
9:18And let them make haste, and let them take vp a lamentation for vs, that our eyes may cast out teares and our eye liddes gush out of water.
9:19For a lamentable noyse is heard out of Zion, Howe are we destroyed, and vtterly confounded, for we haue forsaken the land, and our dwellings haue cast vs out.
9:20Therefore heare the worde of the Lord, O ye women, and let your eares regard the words of his mouth, and teach your daughters to mourne, and euery one her neighbour to lament.
9:21For death is come vp into our windowes, and is entred into our palaces, to destroy the children without, and the yong men in the streetes.
9:22Speake, thus sayth the Lord, The carkeises of men shall lye, euen as the doung vpon the fielde, and as the handfull after the mower, and none shall gather them.
9:23Thus saith the Lord, Let not the wise man glory in his wisedome, nor the strong man glorie in his strength, neyther the riche man glorie in his riches.
9:24But let him that glorieth, glorie in this, that he vnderstandeth, and knoweth me: for I am the Lord, which shewe mercie, iudgement, and righteousnes in the earth: for in these things I delite, sayth the Lord.
9:25Beholde, the dayes come, sayth the Lord, that I wil visite all them, which are circumcised with the vncircumcised:
9:26Egypt and Iudah, and Edom, and the children of Ammon, and Moab, and all the vtmost corners of them that dwell in the wildernesse: for all these nations are vncircumcised, and al the house of Israel are vncircumcised in the heart.

9:1O who wyll geue my head water ynough, and a wel of teares for myne eyes: that I maye wepe night and daye: for the slaughter of my people?
9:2Wolde God, that I had a cotage some where farre from folcke, that I myght leaue my people, and goo from them: for they be all aduoutrers & a shrynckynge sorte.
9:3They bende theyr tunges lyke bowes, to shote out lyes. They wax stronge vpon erthe. As for the trueth, they maye nothynge awaye with all in the worlde. For they go from one wyckednes to another, and wyll not knowe me, sayeth the Lorde.
9:4Yee, one must kepe hym selfe from another, no man may safely trust his awne brother: for one brother vndermyndeth another, one neyghboure begileth another.
9:5Yee one dissembleh wt another, and they deale wt no trueth. They haue practysed theyr tunges to lye, & taken great paynes to do mischefe.
9:6Thou syttest in the myddes of a dysceatfull people, which for very dissemblyng falshede, wyll not knowe me, sayeth the Lord.
9:7Therfore, thus sayeth the Lorde of Hostes: beholde, I wyll melte them, and trye them, for what shuld I els do to my people.
9:8Theyr tunges are lyke sharpe arowes, to speake dysceate. Wyth theyr mouth they speake peaceably to theyr neyghboure, but preuely they laye wayte for hym.
9:9Shulde I not punysh them for these thynges, sayeth the Lorde? Or shulde I not be auenged of any soche people as thys?
9:10Upon the mountaines will I take vp a lamentacion & a sorowful crie, & a mourninge vpon the fayre playnes of the wildernesse. Namely, how they are so brente vp, that no man goeth there any moore. Yee, a man shall not heare one beaste crye there. Byrdes & catell are all gone from thenc
9:11I will make Ierusalem also an heape of stones, & a denne of venymous wormes. And I will make the cyties of Iuda so waste, that no man shall dwell therin.
9:12What man is so wyse, as to vndestande thys? Or to whom hath the Lord spoken by mouth, that he may shewe this, & saye. O thou lande, why perishest thou so? Wherfore art thou so brent vp, & lyke a wyldernes, that no man goeth thorow?
9:13Yee, the Lorde hym selfe tolde the same vnto them, that forsoke hys lawe, & kepte not the thynge that he gaue them in commaundement, nether lyued therafter:
9:14but folowed the wickednes of theyr awne hertes, & serued straunge Goddes, as theyr fathers taught them.
9:15Therfore, thus sayeth the Lorde of Hostes, the God of Israel. Beholde, I wyll fede this people wt wormwod, & geue them gall to dryncke,
9:16I wyll scatre them also among the Heathen, whom nether they ner theyr fathers haue knowne: & I will sende a swearde amonge them, to persecute them, vntill I bryng them to naught.
9:17Moreouer, thus sayeth the Lord of Hostes. Beware of the vengeaunce that hangeth ouer you: and cal for mourning wyues, & sende for wyse wemen: that they come shortly,
9:18and synge a mournynge songe of you: that the teares may fall out of oure eyes, and that our eye lyddes maye gusshe out of water.
9:19For there is a lamentable noyse hearde of Sion. O how are we so sore destroyed? O how are we so pyteously confounded? We must forsake our awne naturall countre, & we are shut out of oure awne lodgynges.
9:20Yet heare the worde of the Lorde (O ye wemen) & let youre eares regarde the wordes of his mouth: that ye may lerne youre daughters to mourne, & that euery one may teach her neyghbouresse, to make lamentacyon.
9:21Namely thus: Death is clymynge vp in at oure wyndowes, he is come into oure houses, to destroye the chylde before the dore, and the yonge man in the strete.
9:22But tell thou playnely, thus sayeth the Lorde. The deed bodyes of men shall lye vpon the grounde, as the donge vpon the felde, & as the heye after the mower, & ther shalbe no man to take them vp.
9:23Thus sayeth the Lorde. Let not the wyse man reioyse in his wysdome, ner the strong man in his strength, nether the ryche man in his rychesse.
9:24But who so will reioyse, let hym reioyse in this, that he vnderstandeth, & knoweth me: for I am the Lorde, which do mercy, equyte and ryghteousnesse vpon the earth. Therfore, haue I pleasure in soch thynges, sayeth the Lorde.
9:25Beholde, the tyme commeth (sayeth the Lorde) that I wyll vyset all them, whose fore skynne is vncircumcysed.
9:26The Egyptians, the Iewes, the Edomytes, the Ammonytes, the Moabites. and the shauen Madianytes, that dwell in the wyldernes. For all the Gentiles are vncircumcysed in the flesh, but all the house of Israell are vncircumcysed in the herte.
