Jeremiah - Chapter: 11


11:1	The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,
11:2	Hear ye the words of this covenant, and speak unto the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem;
11:3	And say thou unto them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel; Cursed be the man that obeyeth not the words of this covenant,
11:4	Which I commanded your fathers in the day that I brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, from the iron furnace, saying, Obey my voice, and do them, according to all which I command you: so shall ye be my people, and I will be your God:
11:5	That I may perform the oath which I have sworn unto your fathers, to give them a land flowing with milk and honey, as it is this day. Then answered I, and said, So be it, O LORD.
11:6	Then the LORD said unto me, Proclaim all these words in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, saying, Hear ye the words of this covenant, and do them.
11:7	For I earnestly protested unto your fathers in the day that I brought them up out of the land of Egypt, even unto this day, rising early and protesting, saying, Obey my voice.
11:8	Yet they obeyed not, nor inclined their ear, but walked every one in the imagination of their evil heart: therefore I will bring upon them all the words of this covenant, which I commanded them to do; but they did them not.
11:9	And the LORD said unto me, A conspiracy is found among the men of Judah, and among the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
11:10	They are turned back to the iniquities of their forefathers, which refused to hear my words; and they went after other gods to serve them: the house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken my covenant which I made with their fathers.
11:11	Therefore thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will bring evil upon them, which they shall not be able to escape; and though they shall cry unto me, I will not hearken unto them.
11:12	Then shall the cities of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem go, and cry unto the gods unto whom they offer incense: but they shall not save them at all in the time of their trouble.
11:13	For according to the number of thy cities were thy gods, O Judah; and according to the number of the streets of Jerusalem have ye set up altars to that shameful thing, even altars to burn incense unto Baal.
11:14	Therefore pray not thou for this people, neither lift up a cry or prayer for them: for I will not hear them in the time that they cry unto me for their trouble.
11:15	What hath my beloved to do in mine house, seeing she hath wrought lewdness with many, and the holy flesh is passed from thee? when thou doest evil, then thou rejoicest.
11:16	The LORD called thy name, A green olive tree, fair, and of goodly fruit: with the noise of a great tumult he hath kindled fire upon it, and the branches of it are broken.
11:17	For the LORD of hosts, that planted thee, hath pronounced evil against thee, for the evil of the house of Israel and of the house of Judah, which they have done against themselves to provoke me to anger in offering incense unto Baal.
11:18	And the LORD hath given me knowledge of it, and I know it: then thou shewedst me their doings.
11:19	But I was like a lamb or an ox that is brought to the slaughter; and I knew not that they had devised devices against me, saying, Let us destroy the tree with the fruit thereof, and let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name may be no more remembered.
11:20	But, O LORD of hosts, that judgest righteously, that triest the reins and the heart, let me see thy vengeance on them: for unto thee have I revealed my cause.
11:21	Therefore thus saith the LORD of the men of Anathoth, that seek thy life, saying, Prophesy not in the name of the LORD, that thou die not by our hand:
11:22	Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, Behold, I will punish them: the young men shall die by the sword; their sons and their daughters shall die by famine:
11:23	And there shall be no remnant of them: for I will bring evil upon the men of Anathoth, even the year of their visitation.


11:1	הדבר אשׁר היה אל ירמיהו מאת יהוה לאמר׃
11:2	שׁמעו את דברי הברית הזאת ודברתם אל אישׁ יהודה ועל ישׁבי ירושׁלם׃
11:3	ואמרת אליהם כה אמר יהוה אלהי ישׂראל ארור האישׁ אשׁר לא ישׁמע את דברי הברית הזאת׃
11:4	אשׁר צויתי את אבותיכם ביום הוציאי אותם מארץ מצרים מכור הברזל לאמר שׁמעו בקולי ועשׂיתם אותם ככל אשׁר אצוה אתכם והייתם לי לעם ואנכי אהיה לכם לאלהים׃
11:5	למען הקים את השׁבועה אשׁר נשׁבעתי לאבותיכם לתת להם ארץ זבת חלב ודבשׁ כיום הזה ואען ואמר אמן יהוה׃
11:6	ויאמר יהוה אלי קרא את כל הדברים האלה בערי יהודה ובחצות ירושׁלם לאמר שׁמעו את דברי הברית הזאת ועשׂיתם אותם׃
11:7	כי העד העדתי באבותיכם ביום העלותי אותם מארץ מצרים ועד היום הזה השׁכם והעד לאמר שׁמעו בקולי׃
11:8	ולא שׁמעו ולא הטו את אזנם וילכו אישׁ בשׁרירות לבם הרע ואביא עליהם את כל דברי הברית הזאת אשׁר צויתי לעשׂות ולא עשׂו׃
11:9	ויאמר יהוה אלי נמצא קשׁר באישׁ יהודה ובישׁבי ירושׁלם׃
11:10	שׁבו על עונת אבותם הראשׁנים אשׁר מאנו לשׁמוע את דברי והמה הלכו אחרי אלהים אחרים לעבדם הפרו בית ישׂראל ובית יהודה את בריתי אשׁר כרתי את אבותם׃
11:11	לכן כה אמר יהוה הנני מביא אליהם רעה אשׁר לא יוכלו לצאת ממנה וזעקו אלי ולא אשׁמע אליהם׃
11:12	והלכו ערי יהודה וישׁבי ירושׁלם וזעקו אל האלהים אשׁר הם מקטרים להם והושׁע לא יושׁיעו להם בעת רעתם׃
11:13	כי מספר עריך היו אלהיך יהודה ומספר חצות ירושׁלם שׂמתם מזבחות לבשׁת מזבחות לקטר לבעל׃
11:14	ואתה אל תתפלל בעד העם הזה ואל תשׂא בעדם רנה ותפלה כי אינני שׁמע בעת קראם אלי בעד רעתם׃
11:15	מה לידידי בביתי עשׂותה המזמתה הרבים ובשׂר קדשׁ יעברו מעליך כי רעתכי אז תעלזי׃
11:16	זית רענן יפה פרי תאר קרא יהוה שׁמך לקול המולה גדלה הצית אשׁ עליה ורעו דליותיו׃
11:17	ויהוה צבאות הנוטע אותך דבר עליך רעה בגלל רעת בית ישׂראל ובית יהודה אשׁר עשׂו להם להכעסני לקטר לבעל׃
11:18	ויהוה הודיעני ואדעה אז הראיתני מעלליהם׃
11:19	ואני ככבשׂ אלוף יובל לטבוח ולא ידעתי כי עלי חשׁבו מחשׁבות נשׁחיתה עץ בלחמו ונכרתנו מארץ חיים ושׁמו לא יזכר עוד׃
11:20	ויהוה צבאות שׁפט צדק בחן כליות ולב אראה נקמתך מהם כי אליך גליתי את ריבי׃
11:21	לכן כה אמר יהוה על אנשׁי ענתות המבקשׁים את נפשׁך לאמר לא תנבא בשׁם יהוה ולא תמות בידנו׃
11:22	לכן כה אמר יהוה צבאות הנני פקד עליהם הבחורים ימתו בחרב בניהם ובנותיהם ימתו ברעב׃
11:23	ושׁארית לא תהיה להם כי אביא רעה אל אנשׁי ענתות שׁנת פקדתם׃


11:1	The word that hath been unto Jeremiah from Jehovah, saying:
11:2	`Hear ye the words of this covenant, and ye have spoken unto the men of Judah, and unto the inhabitants of Jerusalem,
11:3	and thou hast said unto them, Thus said Jehovah God of Israel: Cursed `is' the man who doth not obey the words of this covenant,
11:4	That I commanded your fathers, In the day of My bringing them out from the land of Egypt, Out of the iron furnace, saying, Hearken to My voice, and ye have done them, According to all that I command you, And ye have been to Me for a people, And I am to you for God,
11:5	In order to establish the oath that I have sworn to your fathers, To give to them a land flowing with milk and honey, as this day. And I answer and say, `Amen, O Jehovah.'
11:6	And Jehovah saith unto me, `Proclaim all these words in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, saying: Hear ye the words of this covenant, And ye have done them.
11:7	For I certainly testified against your fathers, In the day of My bringing them up out of the land of Egypt -- till this day, Rising early and testifying, saying, Hearken to My voice,
11:8	And they have not hearkened nor inclined their ear, And they walk each in the stubbornness of their evil heart, And I bring on them all the words of this covenant, That I commanded to do, and they did not.'
11:9	And Jehovah saith unto me: `A conspiracy is found in the men of Judah, And in the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
11:10	They have turned back to the iniquities of their first fathers, Who refused to hear My words, And they have gone after other gods to serve them, The house of Israel, and the house of Judah, Have made void My covenant, that I made with their fathers.
11:11	Therefore thus said Jehovah: Lo, I am bringing in unto them evil, That they are not able to go out from, And they have cried unto Me, And I do not hearken unto them.
11:12	And the cities of Judah, and inhabitants of Jerusalem have gone, And they have cried unto the gods, To whom they are making perfume, And they give no deliverance at all to them, In the time of their vexation.
11:13	For -- the number of thy cities have been thy gods, O Judah, And -- the number of the streets of Jerusalem Ye have placed altars to a shameful thing, Altars to make perfume to Baal.
11:14	And thou, thou dost not pray for this people, Nor dost thou lift up for them cry and prayer, For I do not hearken in the time of their calling unto Me for their vexation.
11:15	What -- to My beloved in My house, Her doing wickedness with many, And the holy flesh do pass over from thee? When thou dost evil, then thou exultest.
11:16	`An olive, green, fair, of goodly fruit,' Hath Jehovah called thy name, At the noise of a great tumult He hath kindled fire against it, And broken have been its thin branches.
11:17	And Jehovah of Hosts, who is planting thee, Hath spoken evil concerning thee, For the evil of the house of Israel, and of the house of Judah, That they have done to themselves, To provoke Me to anger, to make perfume to Baal.
11:18	And, O Jehovah, cause me to know, and I know, Then Thou hast showed me their doings.
11:19	And I `am' as a trained lamb brought to slaughter, And I have not known That against me they have devised devices: We destroy the tree with its food, and cut him off From the land of the living, And his name is not remembered again.
11:20	And O Jehovah of Hosts, judging righteousness, Trying reins and heart, I do see Thy vengeance against them, For unto Thee I have revealed my cause.'
11:21	Therefore, thus said Jehovah concerning the men of Anathoth, who are seeking thy life, saying: Do not prophesy in the name of Jehovah, And thou dost not die by our hands.
11:22	Therefore, thus said Jehovah of Hosts: `Lo, I am seeing after them, The chosen ones die by sword, Their sons and their daughters die by famine,
11:23	And they have no remnant, For I bring evil unto the men of Anathoth, The year of their inspection!'
