Jeremiah - Chapter: 13

>
13:1Thus saith the Lord vnto me; Goe and get thee a linen girdle, and put it vpon thy loynes, and put it not in water.
13:2So I got a girdle, according to the word of the Lord, and put it on my loines.
13:3And the word of the Lord came vnto me the second time, saying;
13:4Take the girdle that thou hast got, which is vpon thy loines, and arise, goe to Euphrates, and hide it there in a hole of the rocke.
13:5So I went and hid it by Euphrates, as the Lord commaunded mee.
13:6And it came to passe after many daies, that the Lord saide vnto me; Arise, goe to Euphrates, and take the girdle from thence, which I commaunded thee to hide there.
13:7Then I went to Euphrates and digged, and tooke the girdle from the place where I had hid it, and behold, the girdle was marred, it was profitable for nothing.
13:8Then the word of the Lord came vnto me, saying;
13:9Thus saith the Lord; After this maner will I marre the pride of Iudah, and the great pride of Ierusalem.
13:10This euill people which refuse to heare my words, which walke in the imagination of their heart, and walke after other Gods to serue them and to worship them, shall euen be as this girdle, which is good for nothing.
13:11For as the girdle cleaueth to the loines of a man: so haue I caused to cleaue vnto me the whole house of Israel, and the whole house of Iudah, saith the Lord; that they might bee vnto me for a people, and for a name, and for a praise, and for a glory: but they would not heare.
13:12Therefore thou shalt speake vnto them this word; Thus saith the Lord God of Israel; Euerie botle shalbe filled with wine: and they shall say vnto thee; Doe we not certainly know, that euery botle shall be filled with wine?
13:13Then shalt thou say vnto them; Thus saith the Lord; Behold, I will fill all the inhabitants of this land, euen the kings that sit vpon Dauids throne, and the priests and the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Ierusalem with drunkennesse.
13:14And I will dash them one against another, euen the fathers and the sonnes together, saith the Lord: I wil not pitie nor spare, nor haue mercie, but destroy them.
13:15Heare ye and giue eare, bee not proud: for the Lord hath spoken.
13:16Giue glory to the Lord your God before he cause darknesse, and before your feet stumble vpon the darke mountaines, and while yee looke for light, he turne it into the shadowe of death, and make it grosse darkenesse.
13:17But if ye will not heare it, my soule shall weepe in secret places for your pride, and mine eye shall weepe sore, and run downe with teares, because the Lords flocke is caried away captiue.
13:18Say vnto the king, and to the queene, Humble your selues, sit downe, for your principalities shall come downe, euen the crowne of your glory.
13:19The cities of the South shall bee shut vp, and none shall open them, Iudah shall be caried away captiue all of it, it shall bee wholly caried away captiue.
13:20Lift vp your eyes, and beholde them that come from the North, where is the flocke that was giuen thee, thy beautifull flocke?
13:21What wilt thou say when he shall punish thee (for thou hast taught them to be captaines and as chiefe ouer thee) shall not sorrowes take thee as a woman in trauaile?
13:22And if thou say in thine heart, Wherefore come these things vpon me? for the greatnesse of thine iniquitie are thy skirts discouered, and thy heeles made bare.
13:23Can the Ethiopian change his skinne? or the leopard his spots? then may ye also doe good, that are accustomed to doe euill.
13:24Therefore will I scatter them as the stubble that passeth away by the winde of the wildernesse.
13:25This is thy lot, the portion of thy measures from me, saith the Lord, because thou hast forgotten mee, and trusted in falshood.
13:26Therefore will I discouer thy skirts vpon thy face, that thy shame may appeare.
13:27I haue seene thine adulteries, and thy neighings, the lewdnesse of thy whordome, and thine abominations on the hils in the fields: woe vnto thee, O Ierusalem, wilt thou not bee made cleane? when shall it once be?

13:1Thus sayth the Lord vnto mee, Goe, and buy thee a linen girdle, and put it vpon thy loynes, and put it not in water.
13:2So I bought the girdle according to the commandement of the Lord, and put it vpon my loynes.
13:3And the worde of the Lord came vnto me the second time, saying,
13:4Take the girdle that thou hast bought, which is vpon thy loynes, and arise, goe towarde Perath, and hide it there in the cleft of the rocke.
13:5So I went, and hid it by Perath, as the Lord had commanded me.
13:6And after many dayes, the Lord sayde vnto mee, Arise, goe towarde Perath, and take the girdle from thence, which I commanded thee to hide there.
13:7Then went I to Perath, and digged, and tooke the girdle from the place where I had hid it, and behold, the girdle was corrupt, and was profitable for nothing.
13:8Then the word of the Lord came vnto me, saying,
13:9Thus sayth the Lord, After this maner will I destroy the pride of Iudah, and the great pride of Ierusalem.
13:10This wicked people haue refused to heare my word, and walke after ye stubbernesse of their owne heart, and walke after other gods to serue them, and to worship them: therefore they shalbe as this girdle, which is profitable to nothing.
13:11For as the girdle cleaueth to the loynes of a man, so haue I tied to me the whole house of Israel, and the whole house of Iudah, saith the Lord, that they might bee my people: that they might haue a name and prayse, and glory, but they would not heare.
13:12Therefore thou shalt saye vnto them this word, Thus sayth the Lord God of Israel, Euery bottell shalbe filled with wine, and they shall say vnto thee, Doe we not knowe that euery bottell shalbe filled with wine?
13:13Then shalt thou say vnto them, Thus saith the Lord, Behold, I will fill all the inhabitants of this land, euen the Kings that sit vpon the throne of Dauid, and the Priestes and the Prophets and all the inhabitantes of Ierusalem with drunkennesse.
13:14And I wil dash them one against another, euen the fathers and the sonnes together, sayeth the Lord: I will not spare, I will not pitie nor haue compassion, but destroy them.
13:15Heare and giue eare, be not proude: for the Lord hath spoken it.
13:16Giue glory to the Lord your God before he bring darknes, and or euer your feete stumble in the darke mountaines, and whiles you look for light, he turne it into the shadowe of death and make it as darkenesse.
13:17But if ye will not heare this, my soule shall weepe in secrete for your pride, and mine eye shall weepe and drop downe teares, because the Lords flocke is caried away captiue.
13:18Say vnto the King and to the Queene, Humble yourselues, sit downe, for the crowne of your glory shall come downe from your heads.
13:19The cities of the South shall be shut vp, and no man shall open them: all Iudah shall be caried away captiue: it shall be wholy caried away captiue.
13:20Lift vp your eyes and beholde them that come from the North: where is the flocke that was giuen thee, euen thy beautifull flocke?
13:21What wilt thou saye, when hee shall visite thee? (for thou hast taught them to be captaines and as chiefe ouer thee) shall not sorow take thee as a woman in trauaile?
13:22And if thou say in thine heart, Wherefore come these things vpon me? For the multitude of thine iniquities are thy skirts discouered and thy heeles made bare.
13:23Can the blacke More change his skin? or the leopard his spots? then may ye also do good, that are accustomed to do euill.
13:24Therefore will I scatter them, as the stubble that is taken away with the South winde.
13:25This is thy portion, and ye part of thy measures from me, sayth the Lord, because thou hast forgotten me and trusted in lyes.
13:26Therefore I haue also discouered thy skirts vpon thy face, that thy shame may appeare.
13:27I haue seene thine adulteries, and thy neiings, the filthinesse of thy whoredome on the hils in the fieldes, and thine abominations. Wo vnto thee, O Ierusalem: wilt thou not bee made cleane? when shall it once be?

13:1Thus sayth the Lord vnto me: go thy waye, & get me a lynnen breche, & gyrde it aboute thy loynes, & let it not be wet.
13:2Then I got me a breche, accordynge to the commaundement of the Lorde, and put it aboute my loynes.
13:3After this the seconde tyme, the Lorde spake vnto me agayne.
13:4Take the breche that thou hast prepared & put about the, & get the vp, & go vnto Euphrates & hyde it in a hole of the rock.
13:5So went I, & hydd it at Euphrates, as the Lord commaunded me.
13:6And it happened longe after this, that the Lorde spake vnto me. Up, & get the to Euphrates, and fet the breche from thence, which I commaunded the to hyde there.
13:7Then went I to Euphrates, & dygged vp, & toke the breche from the place where I had hyd it: & beholde, the breche was corrupt, so that it was profitable for nothynge.
13:8Then sayde the Lorde vnto me.
13:9Thus sayeth the Lorde. Euen so wyll I corrupte the pryde of Iuda, & the hye mynde of Ierusalem.
13:10This people is a wicked people, they wyll not heare my worde, they folowe the wicked ymaginacyons of their awne herte, & hange vpon straunge Goddes, them they serue & worshyppe: & therfore they shalbe as this breche, that serueth for nothynge.
13:11For as straytely as a breche lyeth vpon a mans loynes, so straytely dyd I bynde the whole house of Israel, and the whole house of Iuda vnto me, sayeth the Lorde: that they myght be my people: that they myght haue a glorious name: that they myght be in honour: but thei wold not obeye me.
13:12Therfore laye this rydle before them, & saye: Thus sayeth the Lorde God of Israell: Euery pot shalbe fylled wt wyne. And they shal saye: thynckest thou we knowe not, that euery pot shalbe fylled wt wyne?
13:13Then shalt thou saye vnto them. Thus sayeth the Lord: Behold, I shall fyll all the inhabitours of thys lande wt dronckennes, the kynges that syt vpon Dauids stole, the prestes & prophetes, wt all that dwell at Ierusalem.
13:14And I wyll sett them one agaynst another, ye, the fathers agaynst the sonnes, sayeth the Lorde. I wyll not pardon them, I wyll not spare them, ner haue pytie vpon them: but destroye them.
13:15Be obedient, geue eare, take not disdayne at it, for it is the Lord him selfe that speaketh.
13:16Honoure the Lord your God here in, or he take hys lyght from you, & or euer youre fete stomble in darcknesse at the hyll: lest when ye loke for the lyght, he turne it into the shadowe & darcknesse of death,
13:17But yf ye wyll not heare me, that geue you secrete warnyng, I wyll mourne from my whole hert for youre stubburnes. Pyteously wyll I wepe, & the teares shall gusshe out of myne eyes. For the Lordes flocke shall be caryed awaye captyue.
13:18Tell the kynge & the quene: Humble youre selues, sett you downe lowe, for your dignytye shall be throwne downe & the crowne of your glory shall fall from youre head.
13:19The cyties towarde the south shalbe shut vp, & no man shall open them. All Iuda shallbe caryed awaye captyue, so that none shall remayne.
13:20Lyft vp your eyes, & beholde them that come from the North wher is the flocke (o thou lande) that was gyuen the. And wher are thy fatt & ryche sheape.
13:21To whom wylt thou make thy mone, when the ennemy shall come vpon the? for thou hast taught them thy selfe, & made them masters ouer the. Shall not sorowe come vpon the, as on a woman trauayllyng wt child?
13:22And yf thou woldest saye them in thyne herte. Wherfore come these thynges vpon me? Euen for the multytude of thy blasphemyes, shal thy hynder partes & thy fete be discouered.
13:23For lyke as the man of Iude maye chaunge his skynne, & the cat of the mountayne her spottes: so maye ye that be excercysed in euell, do good.
13:24Therfore wyll I scatre them, lyke as the stoble that is taken awaye wyth the south wynde.
13:25Thys shall be youre porcion, & the porcion of your measure, wherwith ye shalbe rewarded of me, sayeth the lorde: because ye haue forgotten me, & put youre trust in dysceatfull thynges.
13:26Therfore shall I turne thy clothes ouer thy heade, & discouer thy thyghes, that thy preuyties maye be sene,
13:27thy aduoutry, thy deedly malyce, thy beastlinesse, & thy shamefull whordome. For vpon the feldes and hylles I haue sene thy abhominacyons. Wo be vnto the (o Ierusalem) when wylt thou euer be clensed eny more?
