| 39:1 | In the ninth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the tenth month, come hath Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon and all his force unto Jerusalem, and they lay siege against it; |
| 39:2 | in the eleventh year of Zedekiah, in the fourth month, in the ninth of the month, hath the city been broken up; |
| 39:3 | and come in do all the heads of the king of Babylon, and they sit at the middle gate, Nergal-Sharezer, Samgar-Nebo, Sarsechim, chief of the eunuchs, Nergal-Sharezer, chief of the Mages, and all the rest of the heads of the king of Babylon. |
| 39:4 | And it cometh to pass, when Zedekiah king of Judah, and all the men of war, have seen them, that they flee and go forth by night from the city, the way of the king's garden, through the gate between the two walls, and he goeth forth the way of the plain. |
| 39:5 | And the forces of the Chaldeans pursue after them, and overtake Zedekiah in the plains of Jericho, and they take him, and bring him up unto Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, to Riblah, in the land of Hamath, and he speaketh with him -- judgments. |
| 39:6 | And the king of Babylon slaughtereth the sons of Zedekiah, in Riblah, before his eyes, yea, all the freemen of Judah hath the king of Babylon slaughtered. |
| 39:7 | And the eyes of Zedekiah he hath blinded, and he bindeth him with brazen fetters, to bring him in to Babylon. |
| 39:8 | And the house of the king, and the house of the people, have the Chaldeans burnt with fire, and the walls of Jerusalem they have broken down. |
| 39:9 | And the remnant of the people who are left in the city, and those falling who have fallen to him, and the remnant of the people who are left, hath Nebuzar-Adan, chief of the executioners, removed `to' Babylon. |
| 39:10 | And of the poor people, who have nothing, hath Nebuzar-Adan, chief of the executioners, left in the land of Judah, and he giveth to them vineyards and fields on the same day. |
| 39:11 | And Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon giveth a charge concerning Jeremiah, by the hand of Nebuzar-Adan, chief of the executioners, saying, |
| 39:12 | `Take him, and place thine eyes upon him, and do no evil thing to him, but as he speaketh unto thee, so do with him.' |
| 39:13 | And Nebuzar-Adan, chief of the executioners sendeth, and Nebushazban, chief of the eunuchs, and Nergal-Sharezer, chief of the Mages, and all the chiefs of the king of Babylon; |
| 39:14 | yea, they send and take Jeremiah out of the court of the prison, and give him unto Gedaliah son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, to carry him home, and he dwelleth in the midst of the people. |
| 39:15 | And unto Jeremiah hath a word of Jehovah been -- in his being detained in the court of the prison -- saying: |
| 39:16 | `Go, and thou hast spoken to Ebed-Melech the Cushite, saying: Thus said Jehovah of Hosts, God of Israel: Lo, I am bringing in My words unto this city for evil, and not for good, and they have been before thee in that day. |
| 39:17 | And I have delivered thee in that day -- an affirmation of Jehovah -- and thou art not given into the hand of the men of whose face thou art afraid, |
| 39:18 | for I do certainly deliver thee, and by sword thou fallest not, and thy life hath been to thee for a spoil, for thou hast trusted in Me -- an affirmation of Jehovah.' |

| 39:3 | And all the princes of the king of Babylon came in, and sat in the middle gate, even Nergalsharezer, Samgarnebo, Sarsechim, Rabsaris, Nergalsharezer, Rabmag, with all the residue of the princes of the king of Babylon. |
| 39:4 | And it came to pass, that when Zedekiah the king of Judah saw them, and all the men of war, then they fled, and went forth out of the city by night, by the way of the king's garden, by the gate betwixt the two walls: and he went out the way of the plain. |
| 39:5 | But the Chaldeans' army pursued after them, and overtook Zedekiah in the plains of Jericho: and when they had taken him, they brought him up to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon to Riblah in the land of Hamath, where he gave judgment upon him. |
| 39:6 | Then the king of Babylon slew the sons of Zedekiah in Riblah before his eyes: also the king of Babylon slew all the nobles of Judah. |
| 39:7 | Moreover he put out Zedekiah's eyes, and bound him with chains, to carry him to Babylon. |
| 39:8 | And the Chaldeans burned the king's house, and the houses of the people, with fire, and brake down the walls of Jerusalem. |
| 39:9 | Then Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard carried away captive into Babylon the remnant of the people that remained in the city, and those that fell away, that fell to him, with the rest of the people that remained. |
| 39:10 | But Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard left of the poor of the people, which had nothing, in the land of Judah, and gave them vineyards and fields at the same time. |
| 39:11 | Now Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon gave charge concerning Jeremiah to Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard, saying, |
| 39:12 | Take him, and look well to him, and do him no harm; but do unto him even as he shall say unto thee. |
| 39:13 | So Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard sent, and Nebushasban, Rabsaris, and Nergalsharezer, Rabmag, and all the king of Babylon's princes; |
| 39:14 | Even they sent, and took Jeremiah out of the court of the prison, and committed him unto Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan, that he should carry him home: so he dwelt among the people. |
| 39:15 | Now the word of the LORD came unto Jeremiah, while he was shut up in the court of the prison, saying, |
| 39:16 | Go and speak to Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will bring my words upon this city for evil, and not for good; and they shall be accomplished in that day before thee. |
| 39:17 | But I will deliver thee in that day, saith the LORD: and thou shalt not be given into the hand of the men of whom thou art afraid. |
| 39:18 | For I will surely deliver thee, and thou shalt not fall by the sword, but thy life shall be for a prey unto thee: because thou hast put thy trust in me, saith the LORD. |

| 39:5 | But the Chaldean army pursued them and overtook Zedekiah in the Arabah of Jericho. And they took him and brought him up to Nebu-chadnezzar king of Babylon, to Riblah in the land of Hamath, where he spoke judgment on him. |
| 39:6 | And the king of Babylon slaughtered the sons of Zedekiah before his eyes at Riblah. Also the king of Babylon slaughtered all the rulers of Judah. |
| 39:7 | And he blinded the eyes of Zedekiah and bound him in bronze fetters, to make him go to Babylon. |
| 39:8 | And the Chaldeans burned the king's house and the house of the people with fire. And they broke down the walls of Jerusalem. |
| 39:9 | Then the rest of the people who remained in the city, and those who fell away, who fell to him, even the rest of the people who remained, Nebu-zaradan, the chief of the executioners, exiled to Babylon. |
| 39:10 | But Nebu-zaradan, the chief of the executioners, left some of the poor people, who had not a thing to themselves, in the land of Judah. And he gave to them vineyards and fields on that day. |
| 39:11 | And Nebu-chadnezzar king of Babylon commanded concerning by the hand of Nebu-zaradan the chief of the executioners, saying: |
| 39:12 | Take him and set your eyes on him. But do not do anything evil to him. But do with him even as he shall say to you. |
| 39:13 | And Nebu-zaradan, the chief of the executioners, and Nebu-shasban the chief of the eunuchs, and Nergal-sharezer, chief soothsayer, and all the rulers of the king of Babylon, sent, |
| 39:14 | even they sent and took out of the court of the guardhouse. And they gave him to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, to cause him to go out to the house. And he lived among the people. |
| 39:15 | And the word of Jehovah was to while he was shut up in the court of the guardhouse, saying, |
| 39:16 | Go and speak to Ebed-melech the Ethiopian, saying, So says Jehovah of Hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I am bringing My words on this city for evil, and not for good. And they shall be before you in that day. |
| 39:17 | But I will deliver you in that day, states Jehovah, and you shall not be given into the hand of the men, of those whom you fear. |
| 39:18 | For I will surely deliver you, and you shall not fall by the sword; but your life shall be a prize to you, because you have trusted in Me, states Jehovah. |
