Ezekiel - Chapter: 14


14:1	Then came certain of the elders of Israel unto me, and sat before me.
14:2	And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
14:3	Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their heart, and put the stumblingblock of their iniquity before their face: should I be enquired of at all by them?
14:4	Therefore speak unto them, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Every man of the house of Israel that setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to the prophet; I the LORD will answer him that cometh according to the multitude of his idols;
14:5	That I may take the house of Israel in their own heart, because they are all estranged from me through their idols.
14:6	Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Repent, and turn yourselves from your idols; and turn away your faces from all your abominations.
14:7	For every one of the house of Israel, or of the stranger that sojourneth in Israel, which separateth himself from me, and setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to a prophet to enquire of him concerning me; I the LORD will answer him by myself:
14:8	And I will set my face against that man, and will make him a sign and a proverb, and I will cut him off from the midst of my people; and ye shall know that I am the LORD.
14:9	And if the prophet be deceived when he hath spoken a thing, I the LORD have deceived that prophet, and I will stretch out my hand upon him, and will destroy him from the midst of my people Israel.
14:10	And they shall bear the punishment of their iniquity: the punishment of the prophet shall be even as the punishment of him that seeketh unto him;
14:11	That the house of Israel may go no more astray from me, neither be polluted any more with all their transgressions; but that they may be my people, and I may be their God, saith the Lord GOD.
14:12	The word of the LORD came again to me, saying,
14:13	Son of man, when the land sinneth against me by trespassing grievously, then will I stretch out mine hand upon it, and will break the staff of the bread thereof, and will send famine upon it, and will cut off man and beast from it:
14:14	Though these three men, Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, they should deliver but their own souls by their righteousness, saith the Lord GOD.
14:15	If I cause noisome beasts to pass through the land, and they spoil it, so that it be desolate, that no man may pass through because of the beasts:
14:16	Though these three men were in it, as I live, saith the Lord GOD, they shall deliver neither sons nor daughters; they only shall be delivered, but the land shall be desolate.
14:17	Or if I bring a sword upon that land, and say, Sword, go through the land; so that I cut off man and beast from it:
14:18	Though these three men were in it, as I live, saith the Lord GOD, they shall deliver neither sons nor daughters, but they only shall be delivered themselves.
14:19	Or if I send a pestilence into that land, and pour out my fury upon it in blood, to cut off from it man and beast:
14:20	Though Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, as I live, saith the Lord GOD, they shall deliver neither son nor daughter; they shall but deliver their own souls by their righteousness.
14:21	For thus saith the Lord GOD; How much more when I send my four sore judgments upon Jerusalem, the sword, and the famine, and the noisome beast, and the pestilence, to cut off from it man and beast?
14:22	Yet, behold, therein shall be left a remnant that shall be brought forth, both sons and daughters: behold, they shall come forth unto you, and ye shall see their way and their doings: and ye shall be comforted concerning the evil that I have brought upon Jerusalem, even concerning all that I have brought upon it.
14:23	And they shall comfort you, when ye see their ways and their doings: and ye shall know that I have not done without cause all that I have done in it, saith the Lord GOD.


14:1	ויבוא אלי אנשׁים מזקני ישׂראל וישׁבו לפני׃
14:2	ויהי דבר יהוה אלי לאמר׃
14:3	בן אדם האנשׁים האלה העלו גלוליהם על לבם ומכשׁול עונם נתנו נכח פניהם האדרשׁ אדרשׁ׃
14:4	לכן דבר אותם ואמרת אליהם כה אמר אדני יהוה אישׁ אישׁ מבית ישׂראל אשׁר יעלה את גלוליו אל לבו ומכשׁול עונו ישׂים נכח פניו ובא אל הנביא אני יהוה נעניתי לו בה ברב גלוליו׃
14:5	למען תפשׂ את בית ישׂראל בלבם אשׁר נזרו מעלי בגלוליהם כלם׃
14:6	לכן אמר אל בית ישׂראל כה אמר אדני יהוה שׁובו והשׁיבו מעל גלוליכם ומעל כל תועבתיכם השׁיבו פניכם׃
14:7	כי אישׁ אישׁ מבית ישׂראל ומהגר אשׁר יגור בישׂראל וינזר מאחרי ויעל גלוליו אל לבו ומכשׁול עונו ישׂים נכח פניו ובא אל הנביא לדרשׁ לו בי אני יהוה נענה
14:8	ונתתי פני באישׁ ההוא והשׂמתיהו לאות ולמשׁלים והכרתיו מתוך עמי וידעתם כי אני יהוה׃
14:9	והנביא כי יפתה ודבר דבר אני יהוה פתיתי את הנביא ההוא ונטיתי את ידי עליו והשׁמדתיו מתוך עמי ישׂראל׃
14:10	ונשׂאו עונם כעון הדרשׁ כעון הנביא יהיה׃
14:11	למען לא יתעו עוד בית ישׂראל מאחרי ולא יטמאו עוד בכל פשׁעיהם והיו לי לעם ואני אהיה להם לאלהים נאם אדני יהוה׃
14:12	ויהי דבר יהוה אלי לאמר׃
14:13	בן אדם ארץ כי תחטא לי למעל מעל ונטיתי ידי עליה ושׁברתי לה מטה לחם והשׁלחתי בה רעב והכרתי ממנה אדם ובהמה׃
14:14	והיו שׁלשׁת האנשׁים האלה בתוכה נח דנאל ואיוב המה בצדקתם ינצלו נפשׁם נאם אדני יהוה׃
14:15	לו חיה רעה אעביר בארץ ושׁכלתה והיתה שׁממה מבלי עובר מפני החיה׃
14:16	שׁלשׁת האנשׁים האלה בתוכה חי אני נאם אדני יהוה אם בנים ואם בנות יצילו המה לבדם ינצלו והארץ תהיה שׁממה׃
14:17	או חרב אביא על הארץ ההיא ואמרתי חרב תעבר בארץ והכרתי ממנה אדם ובהמה׃
14:18	ושׁלשׁת האנשׁים האלה בתוכה חי אני נאם אדני יהוה לא יצילו בנים ובנות כי הם לבדם ינצלו׃
14:19	או דבר אשׁלח אל הארץ ההיא ושׁפכתי חמתי עליה בדם להכרית ממנה אדם ובהמה׃
14:20	ונח דנאל ואיוב בתוכה חי אני נאם אדני יהוה אם בן אם בת יצילו המה בצדקתם יצילו נפשׁם׃
14:21	כי כה אמר אדני יהוה אף כי ארבעת שׁפטי הרעים חרב ורעב וחיה רעה ודבר שׁלחתי אל ירושׁלם להכרית ממנה אדם ובהמה׃
14:22	והנה נותרה בה פלטה המוצאים בנים ובנות הנם יוצאים אליכם וראיתם את דרכם ואת עלילותם ונחמתם על הרעה אשׁר הבאתי על ירושׁלם את כל אשׁר הבאתי עליה׃
14:23	ונחמו אתכם כי תראו את דרכם ואת עלילותם וידעתם כי לא חנם עשׂיתי את כל אשׁר עשׂיתי בה נאם אדני יהוה׃


14:1	And come in unto me do certain of the elders of Israel, and sit before me.
14:2	And there is a word of Jehovah unto me, saying,
14:3	`Son of man, these men have caused their idols to go up on their heart, and the stumbling-block of their iniquity they have put over-against their faces; am I inquired of at all by them?
14:4	`Therefore, speak with them, and thou hast said unto them: Thus said the Lord Jehovah: Every one of the house of Israel who causeth his idols to go up unto his heart, and the stumbling-block of his iniquity setteth over-against his face, and hath gone in unto the prophet -- I Jehovah have given an answer to him for this, for the abundance of his idols,
14:5	in order to catch the house of Israel by their heart, in that they have become estranged from off me by their idols -- all of them.
14:6	`Therefore say unto the house of Israel: Thus said the Lord Jehovah: Turn ye back, yea, turn ye back from your idols, and from all your abominations turn back your faces,
14:7	for every one of the house of Israel, and of the sojourners who doth sojourn in Israel, who is separated from after Me, and doth cause his idols to go up unto his heart, and the stumbling-block of his iniquity setteth over-against his face, and hath come in unto the prophet to inquire of him concerning Me, I, Jehovah, have answered him for Myself;
14:8	and I have set My face against that man, and made him for a sign, and for similes, and I have cut him off from the midst of My people, and ye have known that I `am' Jehovah.
14:9	`And the prophet, when he is enticed, and hath spoken a word -- I, Jehovah, I have enticed that prophet, and have stretched out My hand against him, and have destroyed him from the midst of My people Israel.
14:10	And they have borne their iniquity: as the iniquity of the inquirer, so is the iniquity of the prophet;
14:11	so that the house of Israel do not wander any more from after Me, nor are defiled any more with all their transgressions, and they have been to Me for a people, and I am to them for God -- an affirmation of the Lord Jehovah.'
14:12	And there is a word of Jehovah unto me, saying,
14:13	`Son of man, the land -- when it sinneth against Me to commit a trespass, and I have stretched out My hand against it, and broken for it the staff of bread, and sent into it famine, and cut off from it man and beast --
14:14	and these three men have been in its midst, Noah, Daniel, and Job -- they by their righteousness deliver their own soul -- an affirmation of the Lord Jehovah.
14:15	`If an evil beast I cause to pass through the land, and it hath bereaved, and it hath been a desolation, without any passing through because of the beast --
14:16	these three men in its midst: I live -- an affirmation of the Lord Jehovah -- neither sons nor daughters do they deliver; they alone are delivered, and the land is a desolation.
14:17	`Or -- a sword I bring in against that land, and I have said: Sword, thou dost pass over through the land, and I have cut off from it man and beast --
14:18	and these three men in its midst: I live -- an affirmation of the Lord Jehovah -- they deliver not sons and daughters, for they alone are delivered.
14:19	`Or -- pestilence I send unto that land, and I have poured out My fury against it in blood, to cut off from it man and beast --
14:20	and Noah, Daniel, and Job, in its midst: I live -- an affirmation of the Lord Jehovah -- neither son nor daughter do they deliver; they, by their righteousness, deliver their own soul.
14:21	`For thus said the Lord Jehovah: Although My four sore judgments -- sword, and famine, and wild beast, and pestilence -- I have sent unto Jerusalem, to cut off from it man and beast,
14:22	yet, lo, there hath been left in it an escape, who are brought forth, sons and daughters, lo, they are coming forth unto you, and ye have seen their way, and their doings, and have been comforted concerning the evil that I have brought in against Jerusalem, all that which I have brought in against it.
14:23	And they have comforted you, for ye see their way and their doings, and ye have known that not for nought have I done all that which I have done in her -- an affirmation of the Lord Jehovah.'
