| 16:1 | Againe the worde of the Lord came vnto me, saying; |
| 16:2 | Son of man, cause Ierusalem to know her abominations, |
| 16:3 | And say, Thus saith the Lord God vnto Ierusalem; Thy birth and thy natiuitie is of the land of Canaan, thy father was an Amorite, and thy mother an Hittite. |
| 16:4 | And as for thy natiuity in the day thou wast borne, thy nauell was not cut, neither wast thou washed in water to supple thee: thou wast not salted at all, nor swadled at all. |
| 16:5 | None eye pitied thee to doe any of these vnto thee, to haue compassion vpon thee, but thou wast cast out in the open field, to the lothing of thy person, in the day that thou wast borne. |
| 16:6 | And when I passed by thee, and saw thee polluted in thine owne blood, I said vnto thee when thou wast in thy blood, Liue: yea I said vnto thee when thou wast in thy blood, Liue. |
| 16:7 | I haue caused thee to multiply as the bud of the field, and thou hast increased and waxen great, and thou art come to excellent ornaments: thy breasts are fashioned, and thine haire is growen, whereas thou wast naked and bare. |
| 16:8 | Now when I passed by thee, and looked vpon thee, behold, thy time was the time of loue, and I spread my skirt ouer thee, and couered thy nakednesse: yea, I sware vnto thee, and entred into a couenant with thee, sayth the Lord God, and thou becamest mine. |
| 16:9 | Then washed I thee with water: yea, I throughly washed away thy blood from thee, and I anointed thee with oyle. |
| 16:10 | I clothed thee also with broidred worke, & shod thee with badgers skin, and I girded thee about with fine linen, and I couered thee with silke. |
| 16:11 | I decked thee also with ornaments, and I put bracelets vpon thine hands, and a chaine on thy necke. |
| 16:12 | And I put a iewell on thy forehead, and eare-rings in thine eares, and a beautifull crowne vpon thine head. |
| 16:13 | Thus wast thou decked with gold and siluer, and thy raiment was of fine linen & silke, and broidered worke, thou didst eate fine floure and honie and oyle, and thou wast exceeding beautiful, and thou didst prosper into a kingdome. |
| 16:14 | And thy renowme went foorth among the heathen for thy beautie: for it was perfect through my comelinesse which I had put vpon thee, sayth the Lord God. |
| 16:15 | But thou diddest trust in thine owne beauty, and playedst the harlot, because of thy renowne, and powredst out thy fornications on euery one that passed by; his it was. |
| 16:16 | And of thy garments thou diddest take, and deckedst thy high places with diuers colours, and playedst the harlot thereupon: the like things shall not come, neither shall it be so. |
| 16:17 | Thou hast also taken thy faire iewels of my gold and of my siluer, which I had giuen thee, and madest to thy selfe images of men, and diddest commit whoredome with them, |
| 16:18 | And tookest thy broidered garments and coueredst them: and thou hast set mine oyle and mine incense before them. |
| 16:19 | My meate also which I gaue thee, fine flowre, and oyle, and honie wherewith I fed thee, thou hast euen set it before them for a sweete sauour: and thus it was, saith the Lord God. |
| 16:20 | Moreouer thou hast taken thy sonnes and thy daughters, whom thou hast borne vnto me, and these hast thou sacrificed vnto them to be deuoured: is this of thy whoredomes a small matter, |
| 16:21 | That thou hast slaine my children, and deliuered them to cause them to passe through the fire for them? |
| 16:22 | And in all thine abominations and thy whooredomes, thou hast not remembred the dayes of thy youth, when thou wast naked and bare, and wast polluted in thy blood. |
| 16:23 | And it came to passe after all thy wickednesse (woe, woe vnto thee, saith the Lord God.) |
| 16:24 | That thou hast also built vnto thee an eminent place, and hast made thee an high place in euery streete. |
| 16:25 | Thou hast built thy high place at euery head of the way, and hast made thy beauty to be abhorred, and hast opened thy feete to euery one that passed by, and multiplied thy whooredomes. |
| 16:26 | Thou hast also committed fornication with the Egyptians thy neighbours great of flesh, & hast increased thy whooredomes, to prouoke me to anger. |
| 16:27 | Behold therefore, I haue stretched out my hand ouer thee, and haue diminished thine ordinarie foode, and deliuered thee vnto the will of them that hate thee, the daughters of the Philistines, which are ashamed of thy lewd way. |
| 16:28 | Thou hast played the whoore also with the Assyrians, because thou wast vnsatiable: yea thou hast played the harlot with them, and yet couldest not be satisfied. |
| 16:29 | Thou hast moreouer multiplied thy fornication in the land of Canaan vnto Caldea, and yet thou wast not satisfied heerewith. |
| 16:30 | How weake is thine heart, saith the Lord God, seeing thou doest all these things, the work of an imperious whorish woman? |
| 16:31 | In that thou buildest thine eminent place in the head of euery way, and makest thine high place in euery streete, and hast not beene as an harlot, in that thou scornest hire: |
| 16:32 | But as a wife that committeth adulterie, which taketh strangers in steede of her husband. |
| 16:33 | They giue gifts to all whores, but thou giuest thy gifts to all thy louers, and hyrest them, that they may come vnto thee on euery side for thy whoredome. |
| 16:34 | And the contrary is in thee from other women in thy whoredomes, whereas none followeth thee to commit whoredomes: and in that thou giuest a reward, and no reward is giuen vnto thee: therefore thou art contrary. |
| 16:35 | Wherefore, O harlot, heare the word of the Lord. |
| 16:36 | Thus saith the Lord God; Because thy filthinesse was powred out, and thy nakednesse discouered through thy whoredomes with thy louers, and with all the idols of thy abominations, and by the blood of thy children, which thou diddest giue vnto them, |
| 16:37 | Behold therefore, I will gather all thy louers, with whom thou hast taken pleasure, and all them that thou hast loued, with all them that thou hast hated: I will euen gather them round about against thee, and will discouer thy nakednesse vnto them, that they may see all thy nakednesse. |
| 16:38 | And I will iudge thee, as women that breake wedlocke and shead blood are iudged, and I will giue thee blood in fury and iealousie. |
| 16:39 | And I will also giue thee into their hand, and they shal throw downe thine eminent place, and shall breake downe thy high places: they shall strip thee also of thy clothes, and shall take thy faire iewels, and leaue thee naked and bare. |
| 16:40 | They shall also bring vp a companie against thee, and they shall stone thee with stones, and thrust thee thorough with their swords. |
| 16:41 | And they shall burne thine houses with fire, and execute iudgements vpon thee in the sight of many women: and I wil cause thee to cease from playing the harlot, and thou also shalt giue no hire any more. |
| 16:42 | So will I make my fury towards thee to rest, and my iealousie shall depart from thee, and I will be quiet, and will be no more angry. |
| 16:43 | Because thou hast not remembred the dayes of thy youth, but hast fretted mee in all these things; behold therefore, I also will recompence thy way vpon thine head, saith the Lord God: and thou shalt not commit this lewdnesse, aboue all thine abominations. |
| 16:44 | Behold, euery one that vseth prouerbs, shall vse this prouerbe against thee, saying, As is the mother, so is her daughter. |
| 16:45 | Thou art thy mothers daughter, that lotheth her husband and her children, and thou art the sister of thy sisters which lothed their husbands, and their children: your mother was an Hittite, and your father an Amorite. |
| 16:46 | And thine elder sister is Samaria, she and her daughters, that dwell at thy left hand: and thy younger sister that dwelleth at thy right hand, is Sodom and her daughters. |
| 16:47 | Yet hast thou not walked after their wayes, nor done after their abominations: but as if that were a very litle thing, thou wast corrupted more then they in all thy wayes. |
| 16:48 | As I liue, saith the Lord God, Sodom thy sister hath not done, she nor her daughters, as thou hast done, thou and thy daughters. |
| 16:49 | Behold, this was the iniquitie of thy sister Sodom; Pride, fulnesse of bread, and aboundance of idlenesse was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poore and needy. |
| 16:50 | And they were hautie, and committed abomination before me: therefore I tooke them away, as I saw good. |
| 16:51 | Neither hath Samaria committed halfe of thy sinnes, but thou hast multiplied thine abominations more then they, and hast iustified thy sisters in all thine abominations, which thou hast done. |
| 16:52 | Thou also which hast iudged thy sisters, beare thine owne shame for thy sinnes, that thou hast committed more abominable then they: they are more righteous then thou: yea be thou confounded also, and beare thy shame, in that thou hast iustified thy sisters. |
| 16:53 | When I shall bring againe their captiuitie, the captiuitie of Sodom and her daughters, and the captiuitie of Samaria and her daughters, then will I bring againe the captiuity of thy captiues in the midst of them; |
| 16:54 | That thou mayest beare thine owne shame, and mayest be confounded in all that thou hast done, in that thou art a comfort vnto them. |
| 16:55 | When thy sisters, Sodom and her daughters shal returne to their former estate, and Samaria and her daughters shall returne to their former estate, then thou and thy daughters shall returne to your former estate. |
| 16:56 | For thy sister Sodom was not mentioned by thy mouth in the day of thy pride; |
| 16:57 | Before thy wickednesse was discouered, as at the time of thy reproch of the daughters of Syria, and all that are round about her, the daughters of the Philistines which despise thee round about. |
| 16:58 | Thou hast borne thy lewdnesse, and thine abominations, saith the Lord. |
| 16:59 | For thus saith the Lord God; I will euen deale with thee as thou hast done, which hast despised the oath in breaking the couenant. |
| 16:60 | Neuerthelesse I will remember my couenant with thee in the dayes of thy youth, and I will establish vnto thee an euerlasting couenant. |
| 16:61 | Then thou shalt remember thy wayes and be ashamed, when thou shalt receiue thy sisters, thine elder and thy younger, and I will giue them vnto thee for daughters, but not by thy couenant. |
| 16:62 | And I will establish my couenant with thee, and thou shalt know that I am the Lord: |
| 16:63 | That thou mayest remember, and bee confounded, and neuer open thy mouth any more: because of thy shame, when I am pacified toward thee, for all that thou hast done, sayeth the Lord God. |
| 16:1 | Agayne the word of the Lorde came vnto me, saying |
| 16:2 | Thou sonne of man, shewe Hierusale their abhominations |
| 16:3 | And say, Thus saith the Lorde God vnto Hierusalem: thy habitation and kinred is of the lande of Chanaan, thy father was an Amorite, thy mother an Hittite |
| 16:4 | In the day of thy byrth when thou wast borne, the string of thy nauell was not cut of, thou wast not bathed in water to make thee cleane, thou wast not salted with salt, nor swadled in cloutes |
| 16:5 | No eye pitied thee to do any of these thinges for thee, for to haue compassion vpon thee: but thou wast vtterly cast out vpon the fielde in contempt of thy person in the day of thy byrth |
| 16:6 | Then came I by thee, and sawe thee defiled in thyne owne blood, and I said vnto thee when thou wast in thy blood, liue: euen when thou wast in thy blood, I sayde vnto thee, liue |
| 16:7 | I caused thee to multiplie as the bud of the fielde, thou art growen vp, and waxen great, thou hast gotten a marueylous pleasaunt beautie, thy brestes are fashioned, thy heere is goodly growen, whereas thou wast naked & bare |
| 16:8 | Nowe when I went by thee and looked vpon thee, beholde, thy tyme was come, yea euen the time to woo thee: then spread I my clothes ouer thee to couer thy dishonestie, yea I made an othe vnto thee, and contracted my selfe with thee (saith the Lorde God) and so thou becamest myne owne |
| 16:9 | Then washed I thee with water, and purged thy blood from thee, and I annointed thee with oyle |
| 16:10 | I clothed thee with broidred worke, and shod thee with badgers skin, and I gyrded thee about with fine linnen, and couered thee with silke |
| 16:11 | I decked thee with costly apparell, I put braselets vpon thy hands, a chayne about thy necke |
| 16:12 | And I put a frontlet vpon thy face, and eareringes vpon thyne eares, and a beautifull crowne vpon thyne head |
| 16:13 | Thus wast thou deckt with golde and siluer, and thy rayment was of fine linnen, and of silke, and of broidred worke: thou didst eate fine floure, honye and oyle, marueylous beautifull wast thou, and thou dydst luckyly prosper into a kingdome |
| 16:14 | And thy name was spread among the heathen for thy beautie: for it was perfite through thy beautie whiche I put vpon thee, saith the Lorde God |
| 16:15 | But thou hast put thy confidence in thyne owne beautie, and played the harlot because of thy renowne, and hast powred out thy fornications with euery one that went by, thou wast his |
| 16:16 | Thou didst take thy garmentes, and deckt thy hye places with diuers colours, and played the harlot thervpon, they come not, and it shall not be |
| 16:17 | The goodly iewels whiche I gaue thee of mine owne golde and siluer, hast thou taken and made thee mens images therof, and committed whordome with them |
| 16:18 | Thy broidred garmentes hast thou taken, and deckt them therewith: myne oyle and incense hast thou set before them |
| 16:19 | My meate whiche I gaue thee, as fine floure, oyle and hony to feede the withall, that hast thou set before them for a sweete sauour: and thus it was saith the Lorde God |
| 16:20 | Thou hast taken thyne owne sonnes and daughters whom thou hast begotten vnto me, and these hast thou offred vp vnto them to be deuoured: is this but a small whordome of thyne |
| 16:21 | And thou hast slayne my chyldren, and deliuered them, to cause them to passe through the fire for them |
| 16:22 | And yet in all thyne abhominations and whordomes, thou hast not remembred the dayes of thy youth, howe naked and bare thou wast at that tyme, and wast defiled in thyne owne blood |
| 16:23 | After all these thy wickednesses, (wo wo vnto thee, saith the Lorde God. |
| 16:24 | Thou hast buylt vnto thee an hye place, and hast made thee an hye place in euery streete |
| 16:25 | Thou hast buylt thyne hye plate at euery head of the way, thou hast made thy beautie to be abhorred, thou hast opened thy feete to euery one that came by, and multiplied thy whoredome |
| 16:26 | Thou hast committed fornication with the Egyptians, thy neighbours whiche were great in fleshe, and thus hast thou increased thyne whordome to anger me |
| 16:27 | Beholde, I did stretche out my hand ouer thee, and dyd minishe thy store of foode, and deliuered thee ouer into the wylles of them that hate thee, euen the daughters of the Philistines, which are ashamed of thyne abhominable wayes |
| 16:28 | Thou hast plaied the whore also with the Assyrians, because thou wast insatiable: yea thou hast I say with them played the harlot, and yet hadst thou not inough |
| 16:29 | Thus hast thou furthermore multiplied thy fornication from the lande of Chanaan vnto the Chaldees, and yet thou wast not satisfied herewith |
| 16:30 | Howe weake is thyne heart saith the Lorde God, seeing thou doest all these workes of a presumptuous whorishe woman |
| 16:31 | Buylding thy hye places at the head of euery way, and makest thy hye places in euery streete: thou hast not ben as another whore that holdeth scorne of a rewarde |
| 16:32 | But as a wyfe that breaketh wedlocke, and taketh other in steede of her husbande |
| 16:33 | Giftes are geuen to all other whores: but thou geuest rewardes vnto all thy louers, & rewardest them to come vnto thee on euery side for thy fornication |
| 16:34 | It is come to passe with thee in thy whoredomes contrary to the vse of other women, yea there hath no suche fornication ben committed after thee: seeing that thou geuest gyftes vnto other, and no rewarde is geuen thee, therfore thou art contrary |
| 16:35 | Therefore heare the worde of the Lorde, O thou harlot |
| 16:36 | Thus saith the Lorde God, Because thou hast powred out thy brasse, and discouered thy filthynes thorowe thy fornications with thy louers, and with all the idols of thyne abhominations, and in the blood of thy chyldren whom thou hast geuen them |
| 16:37 | Beholde therefore, I wyll gather together all thy louers with whom thou hast taken pleasure, yea and all them whom thou hast loued, and euery one that thou hatest: I wyll I say gather them together rounde about against thee, and wil discouer thy shame before them, that they may see all thy filthynesse |
| 16:38 | Moreouer, I wyll iudge thee as a breaker of wedlocke and a murtherer, and recompence thee thyne owne blood in wrath and gelousie |
| 16:39 | I wyll geue thee ouer into their handes, and they shal destroy thy hie place, and breake downe thy hye places, they shall strip thee also out of thy clothes: thy farre iewels shall they take from thee, and so leaue thee naked and bare |
| 16:40 | Yea they shall bryng a company vpon thee, whiche shall stone thee with stones, and thrust thee through with their swordes |
| 16:41 | They shall burne vp thy houses with fire, and punishe thee in the sight of many women: thus wyll I make thee ceasse from playing the harlot, so that thou shalt geue out no more rewardes |
| 16:42 | So wyll I make my wrath towarde thee to rest, and my ielousie shall depart from thee, and I will ceasse, and be angry no more |
| 16:43 | Seing thou remembrest not the dayes of thy youth, but hast fretted me in all these thinges: beholde therfore, I wyll bryng thyne owne wayes vpon thy head saith the Lord God, so that thou shalt not commit any more mischiefe vpon all thyne abhominations |
| 16:44 | Beholde, all they that vse common prouerbes, shall vse this prouerbe also against thee, saying: Such a mother, such a daughter |
| 16:45 | Thou art euen thy mothers owne daughter, that hath cast of her husband and her chyldren: yea thou art the sister of thy sisters, which forsoke their husbandes & their chyldren: your mother is an Hittito, & your father an Amorite |
| 16:46 | Thyne eldest sister is Samaria, she and her daughters that dwell vpon thy left hande: but thy younger sister that dwelleth on thy right hande is Sodoma and her daughters |
| 16:47 | Yet hast thou not walked after their wayes, nor done after their abhominations, as a litle and a litle: but in all thy wayes thou hast ben more corrupt then they |
| 16:48 | As truely as I liue, saith the Lorde God, Sodoma thy sister with her daughters, haue not done as thou hast done and thy daughters |
| 16:49 | Behold, the sinnes of thy sister Sodoma were these: Pryde, fulnesse of meate, and aboundaunce of idlenesse, these thinges had she and her daughters: besides that, they strengthed not the hande of the poore and needie |
| 16:50 | But they were hautie, and committed abhomination before me, therefore I toke them away as I sawe good |
| 16:51 | Neither hath Samaria done halfe of thy sinnes, yea thou hast exceeded them in thyne abhominations, and hast iustified thy sisters in all thyne abhominations whiche thou hast done |
| 16:52 | Therfore thou which didst condemne thy sister, beare thyne owne shame: for thyne owne offences that thou hast comitted more abhominable then they dyd, which in deede are more righteous then thou art, be thou I say ashamed, and beare the shamefull rebuke, seeing that thou hast iustified thy sisters |
| 16:53 | Therfore I wyll bryng agayne their captiuitie, the captiuitie of Sodom and her daughters, & the captiuitie of Samaria and her daughters, and the captiuitie of thy captiuities among them |
| 16:54 | That thou mayest take thyne owne confusion vpon thee, and be ashamed of all that thou hast done, in that thou hast comforted them |
| 16:55 | And thy sister Sodom and her daughters shall returne to their former state, Samaria also and her daughters shall returne to their former state, when thou and thy daughters shall returne to your former state |
| 16:56 | For thy sister Sodom was not heard of by thy report in the day of thy pryde |
| 16:57 | Before thy wickednesse was discouered, according to the tyme of the reproche of the daughters of Aram, and of all the daughters of the Philistines rounde about her, whiche depise thee on all sides |
| 16:58 | Thou hast borne thy wickednesse and thyne abhomination, saith the Lorde |
| 16:59 | For thus saith the Lorde God, I might by right deale with thee as thou hast done, which hast despised the othe in breaking the couenaunt |
| 16:60 | Neuerthelesse, I wyll remember my couenaunt with thee in the daies of thy youth, and I wyll establishe vnto thee an euerlasting couenaunt |
| 16:61 | Then shalt thou remember thy wayes, and be ashamed when thou shalt receaue thy sisters, both thy elder and thy younger: and I wyll geue them vnto thee for daughters, but not by thy couenaunt |
| 16:62 | And I wyll establishe my couenaunt with thee, that thou mayest know that I am the Lorde |
| 16:63 | That thou mayest thinke vpon it, and be ashamed, and neuer open thy mouth any more for shame of thy selfe, when I am pacified towarde thee for all that thou hast done, saith the Lorde God |
| 16:1 | Again, the worde of the Lord came vnto me, saying, |
| 16:2 | Sonne of man, cause Ierusalem to knowe her abominations, |
| 16:3 | And say, Thus saith the Lord God vnto Ierusalem, Thine habitation and thy kindred is of the land of Canaan: thy father was an Amorite, and thy mother an Hittite. |
| 16:4 | And in thy natiuitie whe thou wast borne, thy nauell was not cut: thou wast not washed in water to soften thee: thou wast not salted with salt, nor swadled in cloutes. |
| 16:5 | None eye pitied thee to do any of these vnto thee, for to haue compassion vpon thee, but thou wast cast out in the open fielde to the contempt of thy person in ye day that thou wast borne. |
| 16:6 | And when I passed by thee, I saw thee polluted in thine owne blood, and I said vnto thee, whe thou wast in thy blood, Thou shalt liue: euen when thou wast in thy blood, I saide vnto thee, Thou shalt liue. |
| 16:7 | I haue caused thee to multiplie as the bud of the fielde, and thou hast increased and waxen great, and thou hast gotten excellent ornaments: thy breastes are facioned, thine heare is growen, where as thou wast naked and bare. |
| 16:8 | Nowe when I passed by thee, and looked vpon thee, beholde, thy time was as the time of loue, and I spred my skirtes ouer thee, and couered thy filthines: yea, I sware vnto thee, and entred into a couenant with thee, saith the Lord God, and thou becamest mine. |
| 16:9 | Then washed I thee with water: yea, I washed away thy blood from thee, and I anointed thee with oyle. |
| 16:10 | I clothed thee also with broydred worke, and shod thee with badgers skin: and I girded thee about with fine linen, and I couered thee with silke. |
| 16:11 | I decked thee also with ornaments, and I put bracelets vpon thine handes, and a chaine on thy necke. |
| 16:12 | And I put a frontlet vpon thy face, and earings in thine eares, and a beautifull crowne vpon thine head. |
| 16:13 | Thus wast thou deckt with gold and siluer, and thy rayment was of fine linen, and silke, and broydred worke: thou didest eate fine floure, and honie and oyle, and thou wast very beautifull, and thou didest grow vp into a kingdome. |
| 16:14 | And thy name was spred among the heathen for thy beautie: for it was perfite through my beautie which I had set vpon thee, saith the Lord God. |
| 16:15 | Nowe thou didest trust in thine owne beautie, and playedst the harlot, because of thy renowne, and hast powred out thy fornications on euery one that passed by, thy desire was to him. |
| 16:16 | And thou didest take thy garments, and deckedst thine hie places with diuers colours, and playedst the harlot thereupon: the like thinges shall not come, neither hath any done so. |
| 16:17 | Thou hast also taken thy faire iewels made of my golde and of my siluer, which I had giuen thee, and madest to thy selfe images of men, and didest commit whoredome with them, |
| 16:18 | And tookest thy broydred garments, and coueredst them: and thou hast set mine oyle and my perfume before them. |
| 16:19 | My meate also, which I gaue thee, as fine floure, oyle, and honie, wherewith I fedde thee, thou hast euen set it before them for a sweete sauour: thus it was, saith the Lord God. |
| 16:20 | Moreouer thou hast taken thy sonnes and thy daughters, whome thou hast borne vnto me, and these hast thou sacrificed vnto them, to be deuoured: is this thy whoredome a small matter? |
| 16:21 | That thou hast slaine my children, and deliuered them to cause them to passe through fire for them? |
| 16:22 | And in all thine abominations and whoredomes thou hast not remembred the dayes of thy youth, when thou wast naked and bare, and wast polluted in thy blood. |
| 16:23 | And beside all thy wickednes (wo, wo vnto thee, saith the Lord God) |
| 16:24 | Thou hast also built vnto thee an hie place, and hast made thee an hie place in euery streete. |
| 16:25 | Thou hast built thine hie place at euery corner of the way, and hast made thy beautie to be abhorred: thou hast opened thy feete to euery one that passed by, and multiplied thy whoredome. |
| 16:26 | Thou hast also committed fornication with the Egyptians thy neighbours, which haue great members, and hast encreased thy whoredome, to prouoke me. |
| 16:27 | Beholde, therefore I did stretche out mine hand ouer thee, and will diminish thine ordinarie, and deliuer thee vnto the will of them that hate thee, euen to the daughters of the Philistims, which are ashamed of thy wicked way. |
| 16:28 | Thou hast played the whore also with the Assyrians, because thou wast insaciable: yea, thou hast played the harlot with them, and yet couldest not be satisfied. |
| 16:29 | Thou hast moreouer multiplied thy fornication from the land of Canaan vnto Caldea, and yet thou wast not satisfied herewith. |
| 16:30 | Howe weake is thine heart, saith the Lord God, seeing thou doest all these thinges, euen the worke of a presumptuous whorish woman? |
| 16:31 | In that thou buildest thine hie place in the corner of euery way, and makest thine hie place in euery streete, and hast not bene as an harlot that despiseth a reward, |
| 16:32 | But as a wife that playeth the harlot, and taketh others for her husband: |
| 16:33 | They giue giftes to all other whores, but thou giuest giftes vnto all thy louers, and rewardest them, that they may come vnto thee on euery side for thy fornication. |
| 16:34 | And the contrary is in thee from other women in thy fornications, neither the like fornication shall be after thee: for in that thou giuest a rewarde, and no reward is giuen vnto thee, therefore thou art contrary. |
| 16:35 | Wherefore, O harlot, heare the worde of the Lord. |
| 16:36 | Thus sayeth the Lord God, Because thy shame was powred out, and thy filthinesse discouered through thy fornications with thy louers, and with all the idoles of thine abominations, and by the blood of thy children, which thou didest offer vnto them, |
| 16:37 | Beholde, therefore I wil gather all thy louers, with whom thou hast taken pleasure, and all them that thou hast loued, with al them that thou hast hated: I will euen gather them round about against thee, and will discouer thy filthines vnto them, that they may see all thy filthines. |
| 16:38 | And I wil iudge thee after ye maner of them that are harlots, and of them that shead blood, and I wil giue thee the blood of wrath and ielousie. |
| 16:39 | I will also giue thee into their handes, and they shall destroy thine hie place, and shall breake downe thine hie places. they shall strippe thee also out of thy clothes, and shall take thy faire iewels, and leaue thee naked and bare. |
| 16:40 | They shall also bring vp a company against thee, and they shall stone thee with stones, and thrust thee through with their swordes. |
| 16:41 | And they shall burne vp thine houses with fire, and execute iudgements vpon thee in the sight of many women: and I will cause thee to cease from playing the harlot, and thou shalt giue no reward any more. |
| 16:42 | So will I make my wrath towarde thee to rest, and my ielousie shall depart from thee, and I will cease and be no more angrie. |
| 16:43 | Because thou hast not remembred the dayes of thy youth, but hast prouoked me with all these things, behold, therefore I also haue brought thy way vpon thine head, sayeth the Lord God: yet hast not thou had consideration of all thine abominations. |
| 16:44 | Beholde, all that vse prouerbes, shall vse this prouerbe against thee, saying, As is the mother, so is her daughter. |
| 16:45 | Thou art thy mothers daughter, that hath cast off her husband and her children, and thou art the sister of thy sisters, which forsooke their husbands and their children: your mother is an Hittite, and your father an Amorite. |
| 16:46 | And thine elder sister is Samaria, and her daughters, that dwell at thy left hand, and thy yong sister, that dwelleth at thy right hand, is Sodom, and her daughters. |
| 16:47 | Yet hast thou not walked after their wayes, nor done after their abominations: but as it had bene a very little thing, thou wast corrupted more then they in all thy wayes. |
| 16:48 | As I liue, saith the Lord God, Sodom thy sister hath not done, neither shee nor her daughters, as thou hast done and thy daughters. |
| 16:49 | Beholde, this was the iniquitie of thy sister Sodom, Pride, fulnesse of bread, and aboundance of idlenesse was in her, and in her daughters: neither did shee strengthen the hande of the poore and needie. |
| 16:50 | But they were hautie, and committed abomination before mee: therefore I tooke them away, as pleased me. |
| 16:51 | Neither hath Samaria committed halfe of thy sinnes, but thou hast exceeded them in thine abominations, and hast iustified thy sisters in all thine abominations, which thou hast done. |
| 16:52 | Therefore thou which hast iustified thy sisters, beare thine owne shame for thy sinnes, that thou hast committed more abominable then they which are more righteous then thou art: be thou therefore confounded also, and beare thy shame, seeing that thou hast iustified thy sisters. |
| 16:53 | Therefore I will bring againe their captiuitie with the captiuitie of Sodom, and her daughters, and with the captiuitie of Samaria, and her daughters: euen the captiuitie of thy captiues in the middes of them, |
| 16:54 | That thou mayest beare thine owne shame, and mayest bee confounded in all that thou hast done, in that thou hast comforted them. |
| 16:55 | And thy sister Sodom and her daughters shall returne to their former state: Samaria also and her daughters shall returne to their former state, when thou and thy daughters shall returne to your former state. |
| 16:56 | For thy sister Sodom was not heard of by thy report in the day of thy pride, |
| 16:57 | Before thy wickednes was discouered, as in that same time of the reproch of the daughters of Aram, and of all the daughters of the Philistims round about her which despise thee on all sides. |
| 16:58 | Thou hast borne therefore thy wickednesse and thine abomination, saith the Lord. |
| 16:59 | For thus saith the Lord God, I might euen deale with thee, as thou hast done: when thou didest despise the othe, in breaking the couenant. |
| 16:60 | Neuerthelesse, I wil remember my couenant made with thee in ye dayes of thy youth, and I wil confirme vnto thee an euerlasting couenant. |
| 16:61 | Then thou shalt remember thy wayes, and be ashamed, when thou shalt receiue thy sisters, both thy elder and thy yonger, and I will giue them vnto thee for daughters, but not by thy couenat. |
| 16:62 | And I wil establish my couenant with thee, and thou shalt knowe that I am the Lord, |
| 16:63 | That thou mayest remember, and be ashamed, and neuer open thy mouth any more: because of thy shame when I am pacified toward thee, for all that thou hast done, saith the Lord God. |
