| 16:1 | Agayne, the worde of the Lorde spake vnto me, sayinge: |
| 16:2 | Thou sonne of man, shewe the cytie of Ierusalem their abhominacions, |
| 16:3 | & saye: thus sayeth the Lord God vnto Ierusalem: Thy progeny and kynred came out of the lande of Canaan thy father was an Amoryte, thy mother a Cethyte, thus was the maner of thy byrth. |
| 16:4 | In the daye of thy byrth when thou wast borne, the stringe of thy nauell was not cut of: thou wast not bathed in water to make the clene: Thou wast nether rubbed wt salt, ner swadled in cloutes: |
| 16:5 | No man regarded the so moch, as to do any of these thinges for the, or to shewe the soch fauoure, but thou wast vtterly cast out vpon the felde, yee, despised wast thou in the daye of thy birth |
| 16:6 | Then came I by the, and sawe the troden downe in thyne awne bloude, & sayde vnto the: Lyue, although thou be defyled in thyne awne bloude, ye euen I (I tell the) sayde vnto the lyue, although thou be defyled in thyne awne bloude. |
| 16:7 | So I planted the as the blossome of the felde: thou art growen vp, & waxen greate: thou hast gotten a maruelous pleasaunt beutie, thy breastes are come vp, thy hearre is goodly growen, where as thou wast naked & bare afore. |
| 16:8 | Nowe whan I wente by the, & loked vpon the: beholde, thy tyme was come, yee, euen the tyme to wowe the. Then spred I my clothes ouer the, to couer thy dishonestye: yee, I made an othe vnto the, & maried my selfe with the (sayeth the Lord God) and so thou becamest myne awne. |
| 16:9 | Then washed I the with water, and pourged thy bloude from the. I anoynted the with oyle, |
| 16:10 | I gaue the chaunge of raymentes, I made the shues of Taxus lether: I gyrded the aboute with white sylcke I clothed the with kerchefes, |
| 16:11 | I decked the wt costly apparell, I put rynges vpon thy fyngers: a chayne aboute thy necke, |
| 16:12 | spanges vpon thy fore heade, eare rynges vpon thyne eares, and set a bewtifull crowne vpon thyne head. |
| 16:13 | Thus wast thou deckte with syluer & golde, & thy rayment was of fyne white sylke of nedle worke & of diuerse coloures. Thou dyddest eate nothinge but symnels, honny & oyle: maruelous goodly wast thou & beutyfull, yee euen a very Quene wast thou |
| 16:14 | In so moch, that thy beuty was spoken of amonge the Heythen, for thou wast excellent in my beuty, which I put vpon the sayeth the Lorde God. |
| 16:15 | But thou hast put confidence in thyne awne beuty, & played the harlot, when thou haddest gotten the a name. Thou hast committed whordome, with all that wente by the, & hast fulfylled their desyres: |
| 16:16 | yee, thou hast taken thy garmentes of diuerse colours, & deckte thyne aulters therwith, where vpon thou myghtest fulfyll thyne whordome, & of soch a fashyon, as neuer was done, ner shalbe. |
| 16:17 | The goodly ornamentes & Iewels which I gaue the of myne awne golde and syluer, hast thou taken, and made the mens ymages therof, & commytted whordome withall. |
| 16:18 | Thy garmentes of diuerse coloures hast thou taken, and deckte them therwith: myne oyle & incense hast thou set before them. |
| 16:19 | My meate which I gaue the, as symnels, oyle & hony: (to fede the withall) that hast thou sett before them, for a swete sauoure. And thys came also to passe, sayeth the Lorde God: |
| 16:20 | Thou hast taken thine awne sonnes & daughters, whom thou haddest begotten vnto me: and these hast thou offred vp vnto them, to be their meate. Is this but a small whordome of thine (thinckest thou) |
| 16:21 | that thou slayest my chyldren, and geuest them ouer, to be brent vnto them? |
| 16:22 | And yet in all thy abhominacyons and whordome, thou hast not remembred the dayes of thy youth, howe naked & bare thou wast at that tyme, and troden downe in thyne awne bloude. |
| 16:23 | After all these thy wyckednesses (wo wo vnto the, sayeth the Lorde) |
| 16:24 | Thou hast buylte hye places, yee at the head of euery strete hast thou buylded the an aulter. |
| 16:25 | Thou hast made thy beuty to be abhorred, thou hast layed out thy legges to euery one that came by, & multiplied thyne whoredome. |
| 16:26 | Thou hast commytted fornicacyon wt the Egypcyans thy neyghbours, which had moch fleshe: and thus hast thou encreased thine whordome, to anger me. |
| 16:27 | Beholde, I dyd stretch out myne hande ouer the, & dyd minishe thy stoare of fode, and delyuer the ouer in to the wylles of the Philistines thine enemyes, which are ashamed of thy abhominable waye. |
| 16:28 | Thou hast played the whore also with the Assyrians, because thou wast insatiable: Yee, thou hast (I saye) with them played the harlot, & yett haddest thou not ynough. |
| 16:29 | Thus hast thou forthermore commytted thy fornicacyon from the lande of Canaan vnto the Caldees, & yet thy lust not satisfyed. |
| 16:30 | Howe obstinate is thine herte (sayeth the Lorde God) seynge thou doest all these workes of an erraunt whore: |
| 16:31 | buyldinge thy stewes at the head of euery strete, & thy brodell houses in all places? Thou hast not bene as an other whore, that holdeth scorne of a small rewarde, |
| 16:32 | but a wife that breaketh wedlocke, & taketh other in steade of her husbonde. |
| 16:33 | Gyftes are geuen to all other whores, but thou geuest rewardes vnto all thy louers: & offrest them gyftes, to come vnto the out of all places, & to commytte fornicacyon wt the. |
| 16:34 | It is come to passe wt the in thy whordomes contrary to the vse of other women: yee, there hath no soch fornicacyon bene committed after the, seynge that thou profrest gyftes vnto other, and no rewarde is geuen the: this is a contrary thinge. |
| 16:35 | Therfore, heare the worde of the Lorde, O thou harlot: |
| 16:36 | thus sayeth the Lorde God: For so moch as thou hast sett forth thy youthe to whordome, & discouered thy shame, thorowe thy whordome wt all thy louers, and with all the Idols of thy abhominacyons in the bloude of thy chyldren, whom thou hast geuen them? |
| 16:37 | Beholde therfore, I will gather together all thy louers, vnto whom thou hast made thy selfe comen: yee, and all them whom thou fauourest, & euery one that thou hatest: I wyll (I saye) gather them together rounde aboute the and will discouer thy shame before them, that they maye se all thy fylthynes. |
| 16:38 | Moreouer, I will iudge the as a breaker of wedlocke and a murtherer, and recompence the thyne awne bloude in wrath and gelousy. |
| 16:39 | I will geue the ouer in to their power, that shall breake downe thy stues, & destroye thy brodell houses: they shall strype the out of thy clothes, all thy fayre & beutyfull Iewels shall they take from the, & so let the syt naked & bare: |
| 16:40 | yee: they shall bringe the comen people vpon the, which shall stone the, & slaye the downe wt their sweardes. |
| 16:41 | They shall burne vp thy houses, & punysh the in the sight of many wemen. Thus will I make thy whordome to ceasse, so that thou shalt geue out no more rewardes. |
| 16:42 | Shulde I make my wrath to be still, take my gelousy from the, be content, & no more to be displeased? |
| 16:43 | seynge thou remembrest not the dayes of thy youth, but hast prouoked me to wrath in all these thinges? Beholde therfore I wyll brynge thyne awne wayes vpon thyne heade, sayeth the Lorde God: howe be it, I neuer dyd vnto the, accordynge to thy wickednesse & all thy abhominacyons. |
| 16:44 | Beholde, all they that vse comen prouerbes, shall vse thys prouerbe also agaynst the: soche a mother, soch a daughter. |
| 16:45 | Thou art euen thy mothers awne daughter, that hath cast of hyr housbande & hyr chyldren: Yee, thou art the syster of thy systers, which forsoke their husbandes & their chyldren. Youre mother is a Cethyte, and youre father an Amoryte. |
| 16:46 | Thyne eldest syster is Samaria, she and her daughters that dwell vpon thy left hande. But thy yongest syster that dwelleth on thy ryght hande, is Sodoma & her daughters. |
| 16:47 | Yet hast thou not walked after their wayes, ner done after their abhominacyons: but thou stodest a lytell & very small tyme, and in all thy wayes thou hast bene more corrupte then they. |
| 16:48 | As truly as I lyue, sayeth the Lorde God: Sodoma thy syster wt her daughters, hath not done so euell, as thou and thy daughters. |
| 16:49 | Beholde, the synnes of thy syster Sodoma were these: Pryde, fulnesse of meate, aboundaunce & Idilnesse, these thynges had she & hir daughters. Besydes that, they reached not their hande to the poore and nedy, |
| 16:50 | but were proude, and dyd abhominable thynges before me: therfore I toke them awaye, as pleased me. |
| 16:51 | Nether hath Samaria done half of thy synnes, yee, thou hast exceaded them in wickednesse: In so moch that in comparyson of all the abhominacions which thou hast done, thou hast made thy systers good wemen. |
| 16:52 | Therfore thou (which dydest condempne thy syster) beare thyne awne shame, for thyne awne offences, that thou hast committed, more abhominable then they dyd, which in dead ar more ryghteous, then thou art, be thou (I seye) ashamed, and beare thy shamfull rebuke, seynge that thou hast proued thy systers in comparyson of the ryghtwyse. |
| 16:53 | As for their captiuyte, namely the captiuyte of Sodoma, & her daughters: the captiuyte of Samaria & her daughters: I will bringe them agayne, so will I also bringe agayne thy captiuyte amonge them: |
| 16:54 | that thou mayest take thyne awne confusion vpon the, & be ashamed of all that thou hast done, & to comforte them. |
| 16:55 | Thus thy systers (namely) Sodoma & her daughters: Samaria and her daughters, wt thy selfe, & thy daughters, shalbe brought agayne to youre olde estate. |
| 16:56 | When thou wast in thy pryde, |
| 16:57 | & before thy wickednesse came to lyght: thou woldest not heare speake of thy syster Sodoma, vntyll the tyme that the Syrians with all their townes, & the Philistines with all that lye rounde aboute them, brought the to shame & confusyon: |
| 16:58 | that thou myghtest beare thyne awne fylthynes & abhominacyon, sayeth the Lorde. |
| 16:59 | For thus sayeth the Lorde God: I shulde (by right) deale with the, as thou hast done. Thou hast despysed the oth, and broken the couenaunte. |
| 16:60 | Neuerthelesse, I will remembre the couenaunt that I made with the in thy youth in so moch that it shalbe an euerlastinge couenaunt: |
| 16:61 | so that thou also remembre thy wayes, & be ashamed of them: then shalt thou receaue of me thy elder & yonger systers, whom I wyll make thy daughters, and that besyde thy couenaunt. |
| 16:62 | And so will I renue my couenaunt with the, that thou mayest knowe that I am the Lorde: |
| 16:63 | that thou mayest thincke vpon it, be ashamed, and excuse thyne awne confusyon nomore: when I haue forgeuen the, all that thou hast done, sayeth the Lorde God. |
| 16:1 | And the word of the Lord was maad to me, |
| 16:2 | and he seide, Sone of man, make thou knowun to Jerusalem her abhomynaciouns; and thou schalt seie, |
| 16:3 | The Lord God seith these thingis. A! thou Jerusalem, thi rote and thi generacioun is of the lond of Canaan; thi fadir is Amorrei, and thi moder is Cetei. |
| 16:4 | And whanne thou were borun, thi nawle was not kit awei in the dai of thi birthe, and thou were not waischun in watir in to helthe, nethir saltid with salt, nether wlappid in clothis. |
| 16:5 | An iye sparide not on thee, that it hauynge merci on thee, dide to thee oon of these thingis; but thou were cast forth on the face of erthe, in the castynge out of thi soule, in the dai in which thou were borun. |
| 16:6 | Forsothe Y passide bi thee, and Y siy thee defoulid in thi blood; and Y seide to thee, whanne thou were in thi blood, Lyue thou; sotheli Y seide to thee in thi blood, Lyue thou. |
| 16:7 | Y yaf thee multiplied as the seed of a feeld, and thou were multiplied, and maad greet; and thou entridist, and camest fulli to wymmens ournyng; thi tetis wexiden greet, and thin heer wexide; and thou were nakid, and ful of schenschipe. |
| 16:8 | And Y passide bi thee, and Y siy thee, and lo! thi tyme, the tyme of louyeris; and Y spredde abrood my clothing on thee, and Y hilide thi schenschipe. And Y swoor to thee, and Y made a couenaunt with thee, seith the Lord God, and thou were maad a wijf to me. |
| 16:9 | And Y waischide thee in water, and Y clenside awei thi blood fro thee, and Y anoyntide thee with oile. |
| 16:10 | And Y clothide thee with clothis of dyuerse colours, and Y schodde thee in iacynct, and Y girde thee with biys; |
| 16:11 | and Y clothide thee with sutil thingis, and Y ournede thee with ournement. |
| 16:12 | And Y yaf bies in thin hondis, and a wrethe aboute thi necke; and Y yaf a ryng on thi mouth, and cerclis to thin eeris, and a coroun of fairnesse in thin heed. |
| 16:13 | And thou were ourned with gold and siluer, and thou were clothid with biys and ray cloth with rounde ymagis, and many colours. Thou etist cleene flour of wheete, and hony, and oile, and thou were maad fair ful greetli; and thou encreessidist in to a rewme, |
| 16:14 | and thi name yede out in to hethene men for thi fairnesse; for thou were perfit in my fairnesse which Y hadde sett on thee, seith the Lord God. |
| 16:15 | And thou haddist trist in thi fairnesse, and didist fornicacioun in thi name; and thou settidist forth thi fornicacioun to ech that passide forth, that thou schuldist be maad his. |
| 16:16 | And thou tokist of my clothis, and madist to thee hiy thingis set aboute on ech side; and thou didist fornycacioun on tho, as it was not don, nether schal be don. |
| 16:17 | And thou tokist the vessels of thi fairnesse, of my gold and of my siluer, which Y yaf to thee; and thou madist to thee ymagis of men, and didist fornycacioun in tho. |
| 16:18 | And thou tokist thi clothis of many colours, and thou were clothid in tho; and thou settidist myn oile and myn encence in the siyt of tho. |
| 16:19 | And thou settidist my breed, which Y yaf to thee, flour of wheete, and oile, and hony, bi whiche Y nurschide thee, in the siyt of tho, in to odour of swetnesse; and it was don, seith the Lord God. |
| 16:20 | And thou tokist thi sones and thi douytris, whiche thou gendridist to me, and offridist to tho, for to be deuourid. Whether thi fornicacioun is litil? |
| 16:21 | Thou offridist my sones, and yauest hem, and halewidist to tho. |
| 16:22 | And aftir alle thin abhomynaciouns and fornicaciouns, thou bithouytist not on the daies of thi yong wexynge age, whanne thou were nakid, and ful of schenschipe, and were defoulid in thi blood. |
| 16:23 | And after al thi malice, wo, wo bifelle to thee, seith the Lord God. |
| 16:24 | And thou bildidist to thee a bordel hous, and madist to thee a place of hordom in alle stretis. |
| 16:25 | At ech heed of the weie thou bildidist a signe of thin hordom, and madist thi fairnesse abhomynable; and thou departidist thi feet to ech man passynge forth, and multepliedist thi fornicaciouns. |
| 16:26 | And thou didist fornicacioun with the sones of Egipt, thi neiyboris of grete fleischis, and thou multepliedist thi fornicacioun, to terre me to wraththe. |
| 16:27 | Lo! Y schal stretch forth myn hond on thee, and Y schal take awei thi iustifiyng; and Y schal yyue thee in to the soulis of hem that haten thee, of the douytris of Palestyns, that ben aschamed in thi weie ful of greet trespas. |
| 16:28 | And thou didist fornicacioun with the sones of Assiriens, for thou were not fillid yit; and after that thou didist fornicacioun, nether so thou were fillid. |
| 16:29 | And thou multipliedist thi fornycacioun in the lond of Canaan with Caldeis, and nether so thou were fillid. |
| 16:30 | In what thing schal Y clense thin herte, seith the Lord God, whanne thou doist alle these werkis of a womman an hoore, and gredi axere? |
| 16:31 | For thou madist thi bordel hous in `the heed of ech weie, and thou madist thin hiy place in ech street; and thou were not maad as an hoore ful of anoiyng, |
| 16:32 | encreessynge prijs, but as a womman auowtresse, that bryngith in aliens on hir hosebonde. |
| 16:33 | Hiris ben youun to alle hooris, but thou hast youe hire to alle thi louyeris; and thou yauest to hem, that thei schulden entre to thee on ech side, to do fornycacioun with thee. |
| 16:34 | And it was don in thee ayens the custom of wymmen in thi fornycaciouns, and fornicacioun schal not be after thee; for in that that thou yauest hiris, and tokist not hiris, the contrarie was don in thee. |
| 16:35 | Therfor, thou hoore, here the word of the Lord. |
| 16:36 | The Lord God seith these thingis, For thi riches is sched out, and thi schenschipe is schewid in thi fornicaciouns on thi louyeris, and on the idols of thin abhomynaciouns, in the blood of thi sones, whiche thou yauest to hem; lo! |
| 16:37 | Y schal gadere to gidere alle thi louyeris, with whiche thou were meddlid, and alle men whiche thou louedist, with alle men whiche thou hatidist; and Y schal gadere hem on thee on ech side, and Y schal make nakid thi schenschipe bifore hem, and thei schulen se al thi filthe. |
| 16:38 | And Y schal deme thee bi the domes of auoutressis, and schedinge out blood; |
| 16:39 | and Y schal yyue thee in to the blood of strong veniaunce, and of feruour. And Y schal yyue thee in to the hondis of hem, and thei schulen destrie thi bordel hous, and thei schulen destrie the place of thin hordom; and thei schulen make thee nakid of thi clothis, and thei schulen take awei the vessels of thi fairnesse, and thei schulen forsake thee nakid, and ful of schenschipe. |
| 16:40 | And thei schulen bringe on thee a multitude, and thei schulen stoon thee with stoonys, and thei schulen sle thee with her swerdis. |
| 16:41 | And thei schulen brenne thin housis with fier, and thei schulen make domes in thee, bifor the iyen of ful many wymmen; and thou schalt ceese to do fornicacioun, and thou schalt no more yyue hiris. |
| 16:42 | And myn indignacioun schal reste in thee, and my feruent loue schal be takun awei fro thee; and Y schal reste, and Y schal no more be wrooth, |
| 16:43 | for thou haddist not mynde on the daies of thi yong wexynge age, and thou terridist me to ire in alle these thingis. Wherfor and Y yaf thi weies in thin heed, seith the Lord God, and Y dide not aftir thi grete trespassis, in alle these thin abhomynaciouns. |
| 16:44 | Lo! ech man that seith a prouerbe comynli, schal take it in thee, |
| 16:45 | and schal seie, As the modir, so and the douytir of hir. Thou art the douyter of thi modir, that castide awey hir hosebonde and hir sones; and thou art the sister of thi sistris, that castiden a wei her hosebondis and her sones. Thi modir is Cetei, and thi fadir is Ammorrei; |
| 16:46 | and thi gretter sister is Samarie, sche and hir douytris, that dwellen at thi left side; but thi sistir lesse than thou, that dwellith at thi riyt side, is Sodom, and hir douytris. |
| 16:47 | But thou yedist not in the weies of hem, nethir thou didist aftir the grete trespassis of hem; hast thou do almest a litil lesse cursidere dedis than thei, in alle thi weies? |
| 16:48 | Y lyue, seith the Lord God, for Sodom, thi sister, did not, sche and hir douytris, as thou didist, and thi douytris. |
| 16:49 | Lo! this was the wickidnesse of Sodom, thi sister, pride, fulnesse of breed, and habundaunce, and idilnesse of hir, and of hir douytris; and thei puttiden not hond to a nedi man and pore. |
| 16:50 | And thei weren enhaunsid, and diden other abhominaciouns bifore me; and Y took hem awei, as thou hast seyn. |
| 16:51 | And Samarie synnede not the half of thi synnes, but thou hast ouercome hem in thi grete trespassis; and thou hast iustified thi sistris in alle thin abhomynaciouns, whiche thou wrouytist. |
| 16:52 | Therfor and thou bere thi schenschipe, that hast ouercome thi sistris with thi synnes, and didist more cursidli than thei; for thei ben iustified of thee. Therfor and be thou schent, and bere thi schenschipe, which hast iustified thi sistris. |
| 16:53 | And Y schal conuerte and restore hem by the conuersioun of Sodom with hir douytris, and bi the conuersioun of Samarie and of hir douytris; and Y schal conuerte thi turnyng ayen in the myddis of hem, |
| 16:54 | that thou bere thi schenschipe, and be aschamed in alle thingis whiche thou didist, coumfortynge hem. |
| 16:55 | And thi sister Sodom and hir doytris schulen turne ayen to her eldnesse; and Samarie and hir douytris shulen turne ayen to her eeldnesse; and thou and thi douytris turne ayen to youre eldnesse. |
| 16:56 | Forsothe Sodom, thi sister, was not herd in thi mouth, in the dai of thi pride, |
| 16:57 | bifore that thi malice was schewid, as in this tyme, in to schenschipe of the douytris of Sirie, and of alle douytris in thi cumpas, of the douytris of Palestyn that ben aboute thee bi cumpas. |
| 16:58 | Thou hast bore thi greet trespas, and thi schenschipe, seith the Lord God. |
| 16:59 | For the Lord God seith these thingis, And Y schal do to thee as thou dispisidist the ooth, that thou schuldist make voide the couenaunt; |
| 16:60 | and Y schal haue mynde on my couenaunt with thee in the daies of thi yongthe, and Y schal reise to thee a couenaunt euerlastynge. |
| 16:61 | And thou schalt haue mynde on thi weies, and schalt be aschamed, whanne thou schalt resseyue thi sistris grettere than thou, with thi lesse sistris; and Y schal yyue hem in to douytris to thee, but not of thi couenaunt. |
| 16:62 | And Y schal reise my couenaunt with thee, and thou schalt wite, that Y am the Lord, that thou haue mynde, and be aschamed; |
| 16:63 | and that it be no more to thee to opene the mouth for thi schame, whanne Y schal be plesid to thee in alle thingis whiche thou didist, seith the Lord God. |
| 16:1 | Agayne, the worde of LORDE spake vnto me, sayenge: |
| 16:2 | Thou sonne of man, shewe the cite of Ierusalem their abhominacions, |
| 16:3 | and saye: thus saieth the LORDE God vnto Ierusalem: Thy progeny and kynred came out of the londe of Canaan, thy father was an Amorite, thy mother a Cethite. |
| 16:4 | In ye daye of thy byrth when thou wast borne, ye stringe of thy nauel was not cut of: thou wast not bathed in water to make the clene: Thou wast nether rubbed wt salt, ner swedled in cloutes: |
| 16:5 | No man regarded the so moch, as to do eny of these thinges for ye, or to shewe the soch fauoure, but thou wast vtterly cast out vpon ye felde, yee despised wast thou in the daye of thy byrth. |
| 16:6 | Then came I by the, and sawe the troden downe in thine owne bloude, & sayde vnto the: thou shalt be pourged from thine owne bloude, fro thine owne bloude (I saye) shalt thou be clensed. |
| 16:7 | So I planted the, as the blossome of thy felde: thou art growen vp, & waxe greate: thou hast gotten a maruelous pleasaunt beutie, thy brestes are come vp, thy hayre is goodly growen, where as thou wast naked and bare afore. |
| 16:8 | Now when I wente by ye, & loked vpon the: beholde, thy tyme was come, yee eue the tyme to wowe the. Then spred I my clothes ouer the, to couer thy dishonestie: Yee I made an ooth vnto the, & maried my self with the (saieth the LORDE God) & so thou becamest myne owne. |
| 16:9 | Then wa?shed I the with water, & pourged thy bloude from the. I anoynted the with oyle, |
| 16:10 | I gaue the chaunge of raymentes, I made the shues of Taxus lether: I gyrthed ye aboute wt white sylcke, I clothed the with kerchues, |
| 16:11 | I decked the wt costly apparell, I put rynges vpon thy fyngers: a chayne aboute thy necke, |
| 16:12 | spages vpo thy foreheade, eare rynges vpon thyne eares, & set a beutifull crowne vpon thine heade. |
| 16:13 | Thus wast thou deckte with syluer & golde, & thy rayment was of fyne white sylke, of nedle worke & of dyuerse colours. Thou didest eate nothinge but symnels, honny & oyle: maruelous goodly wast thou & beutifull, yee euen a very Quene wast thou: |
| 16:14 | In so moch, that thy beuty was spoken of amonge the Heithen, for thou wast excellet in my beuty, which I put vpo the, saieth the LORDE God. |
| 16:15 | But thou hast put confidece in thine owne beuty, & played the harlot, when thou haddest gotten the a name. Thou hast committed whordome, with all that wente by the, & hast fulfilled their desyres: |
| 16:16 | Yee thou hast taken thy garmetes of dyuerse colours, & deckte thine aulters therwith, where vpon thou mightest fulfill thine whordome, of soch a fashion, as neuer was done, ner shalbe. |
| 16:17 | The goodly ornametes & Iewels which I gaue the of myne owne golde and syluer, hast thou take, & made the mes ymages therof, and committed whordome withall. |
| 16:18 | Thy garmentes of dyuerse colours hast thou taken, and deckte them therwith: myne oyle & incense hast thou set before them. |
| 16:19 | My meate which I gaue the, as symnels, oyle & hony: (to fede the withall) that hast thou set before them, for a swete sauoure. And this came also to passe, saieth the LORDE God: |
| 16:20 | Thou hast take thine owne sonnes & doughters, whom thou haddest begotten vnto me: and these hast thou offred vp vnto them, to be their meate. Is this but a small whordome of thine (thinkest thou) |
| 16:21 | that thou slayest my children, and geuest them ouer, to be bret vnto them? |
| 16:22 | And yet in all thy abhominacions and whordome, thou hast not remembred the dayes of thy youth, how naked and bare thou wast at that tyme, & troden downe in thine owne bloude. |
| 16:23 | After all these thy wickednesses (wo wo vnto the, saieth ye LORDE) |
| 16:24 | thou hast buylded thy stewes and brodel houses in euery place: yee at the heade of euery strete |
| 16:25 | hast thou buylded the an aulter. Thou hast made thy beuty to be abhorred: thou hast layed out thy legges to euery one that came by, and multiplied thine whordome. |
| 16:26 | Thou hast committed fornicacion with the Egipcians thy neghbours, which had moch flesh: & thus hast thou vsed thine whordome, to anger me. |
| 16:27 | Beholde, I will stretch out myne honde ouer the, and wil mynish thy stoare of fode, and delyuer the ouer in to the willes of the Philistynes thine enemies, which are ashamed of thy abhominable waye. |
| 16:28 | Thou hast played the whore also with the Assirians, which might not satisfie the: Yee thou hast played the harlot, & not had ynough. |
| 16:29 | Thus hast thou still comitted thy fornicacion from the londe of Canaan vnto the Caldees, and yet thy lust not satisfied. |
| 16:30 | How shulde I circumcide thine herte (saieth the LORDE God) seinge thou doest all these thinges, thou precious whore: |
| 16:31 | buyldinge thy stewes at the heade of euery strete, and thy brodel houses in all places? Thou hast not bene as an other whore, yt maketh booste of hir wynnynge: |
| 16:32 | but as a wife yt breaketh wedlocke, & taketh other in steade of hir hu?bode. |
| 16:33 | Giftes are geuen to all other whores, but thou geuest rewardes vnto all thy louers: & offrest them giftes, to come vnto the out of all places, & to committe fornicacio with the. |
| 16:34 | It is come to passe with the in thy whordomes, contrary to the vse of other women: yee there hath no soch fornicacion bene committed after the, seinge that thou profrest giftes vnto other, & no rewarde is geuen the: this is a contrary thinge. |
| 16:35 | Therfore heare the worde of the LORDE, o thou harlot: |
| 16:36 | Thus saieth the LORDE God: For so moch as thou hast spet thy moneye, & discouered thy shame, thorow thy whordome with all thy louers, and with all the Idols of thy abhominacions in the bloude of thy children, whom thou hast geuen them: |
| 16:37 | Beholde therfore, I wil gather together all thy louers, vnto whom thou hast made thy self comon: yee & all them whom thou fauourest, and euery one that thou hatest: and will discouer thy shame before the, that they all maye se thy fylthines |
| 16:38 | Morouer, I wil iudge the as a breaker of wedlocke and a murthurer, and recompence the thine owne bloude in wrath and gelousy. |
| 16:39 | I wil geue the ouer in to their power, that shal breake downe thy stewes, and destroye thy brodel houses: they shal stripe the out of thy clothes, all thy fayre & beutifull Iewels shal they take from the, and so let the syt naked & bare: |
| 16:40 | Yee they shal bringe the comon people vpon the, which shal stone the, & slaye the downe with their sweardes. |
| 16:41 | They shall burne vp thy houses, and punysh the in the sight of many wome. Thus wil I make thy whordome to ceasse, so that thou shalt geue out no mo rewardes. |
| 16:42 | Shulde I make my wrath to be still, take my gelousy from the, be content, and nomore to be displeased? |
| 16:43 | seinge thou remembrest not the dayes of thy youth, but hast prouoked me to wrath in all these thinges? Beholde therfore, I wil bringe thine owne wayes vpon thine heade, saieth the LORDE God: how be it, I neuer dyd vnto the, acordinge to thy wickednesse and all thy abhominacions. |
| 16:44 | Beholde, all they yt vse comon prouerbes, shall vse this prouerbe also agaynst the: Soch a mother, soch a doughter. |
| 16:45 | Thou art euen thy mothers owne doughter, that hath cast of hir hou?bonde and hir children: Yee thou art the sister of thy sisters, which forsoke their hu?bodes and their children. Youre mother is a Cethite, and youre father an Amorite. |
| 16:46 | Thine eldest sister is Samaria, she and hir doughters that dwel vpo thy left honde. But thy yongest sister that dwelleth on ye right hode, is Sodoma and hir doughters. |
| 16:47 | Yet hast thou not walked after their wayes, ner done after their abhominacions: But in all thy wayes thou hast bene more corrupte then they. |
| 16:48 | As truly as I lyue, saieth the LORDE God: Sodoma thy sister with hir doughters, hath not done so euel, as thou and thy doughters. |
| 16:49 | Beholde, the synnes of thy sister Sodoma were these: Pryde, fulnesse of meate, abundaunce and Idilnesse: these thinges had she and hir doughters. Besydes that, they reached not their honde to the poore and nedy, |
| 16:50 | but were proude, and dyd abhominable thinges before me: therfore I toke them awaye, when I had sene it. |
| 16:51 | Nether hath Samaria done half of thy synnes, yee thou hast exceaded them in wickednesse: In so moch that in comparison of all the abhominacions which thou hast done, thou hast made thy sisters good women. |
| 16:52 | Therfore beare thine owne shame, thou that in synne hast ouercome thy sisters: seinge thou hast done so abhominably, that they were better then thou. Be ashamed therfore (I saye) and beare thine owne confucion, thou that makest thy sisters good women. |
| 16:53 | As for their captiuyte, namely the captiuyte of Sodoma and hir dougters: the captiuyte of Samaria and hir doughters: I wil bringe them agayne, so will I also bringe agayne thy captiuyte amoge them: |
| 16:54 | that thou mayest take thine owne confucion vpon the, and be ashamed of all that thou hast done, and to comforte them. |
| 16:55 | Thus thy sisters (namely) Sodoma and hir doughters: Samaria and hir doughters with yi self & thy doughters, shalbe brought agayne to youre olde estate. |
| 16:56 | Whe thou wast in thy pryde, |
| 16:57 | and before thy wickednesse came to light: thou woldest not heare speake of thy sister Sodoma, vntill the tyme that the Sirians with all their townes, and the Philistynes with all that lye rounde aboute them, brought the to shame and confucion: |
| 16:58 | that thou mightest beare thine owne fylthynes and abhominacion, saieth the LORDE. |
| 16:59 | For thus saieth the LORDE God: I shulde (by right) deale with the, as thou hast done. Thou hast despysed the ooth, and broken the couenaunte. |
| 16:60 | Neuertheles, I wil remembre the couenaunt, that I made with the in thy youth, in so moch that it shall be an euerlastinge couenaunt: |
| 16:61 | So that thou also remembre thy wayes, and be ashamed of the: then shalt thon receaue of me thy elder and yonger sisters, whom I wil make thy doughters, and that besyde thy couenaunt. |
| 16:62 | And so I wil renue my couenaunt with the, yt thou mayest knowe, that I am the LORDE: |
| 16:63 | that thou mayest thincke vpo it, be ashamed, and excuse thine owne confucion nomore: when I haue forgeuen the, all that thou hast done, saieth the LORDE God. |
