Ezekiel - Chapter: 18

>
18:1And the word of ye Lord came vnto me againe, saying;
18:2What meane ye that yee vse this prouerbe concerning the land of Israel, saying, The fathers haue eaten sowre grapes, and the childrens teeth are set on edge?
18:3As I liue, saith the Lord God, yee shall not haue occasion any more to vse this prouerbe in Israel.
18:4Behold, all soules are mine, as the soule of the father, so also the soule of the sonne is mine: the soule that sinneth, it shall die.
18:5But if a man be iust, and do that which is lawfull and right:
18:6And hath not eaten vpon the mountaines, neither hath lift vp his eyes to the idoles of the house of Israel, neither hath defiled his neighbours wife, neither hath come neere to a menstruous woman,
18:7And hath not oppressed any, but hath restored to the debtourhis pledge, hath spoiled none by violence, hath giuen his bread to the hungrie, and hath couered the naked with a garment,
18:8He that hath not giuen foorth vpon vsurie, neither hath taken any increase, that hath withdrawen his hand from iniquitie, hath executed true iudgement betweene man and man,
18:9Hath walked in my Statutes, and hath kept my Iudgements to deale truely; hee is iust, hee shall surely liue, saith the Lord God.
18:10If hee beget a sonne that is a robber, a shedder of blood, and that doth the like to any one of these things,
18:11And that doeth not any of those duties, bnt euen hath eaten vpon the mountains, and defiled his neighbours wife,
18:12Hath oppressed the poore and needie, hath spoiled by violence, hath not restored the pledge, and hath lift vp his eyes to the idoles, hath committed abomination,
18:13Hath giuen foorth vpon vsurie, and hath taken encrease: shall he then liue? hee shall not liue: hee hath done all these abominations, hee shall surely die, his blood shalbe vpon him.
18:14Now loe, if hee beget a sonne that seeth all his fathers sinnes which he hath done, and considereth, and doth not such like,
18:15That hath not eaten vpon the mountaines, neither hath lift vp his eyes to the idoles of the house of Israel, hath not defiled his neighbours wife,
18:16Neither hath oppressed any, hath not withholden the pledge, neither hath spoiled by violence, but hath giuen his bread to the hungry, and hath couered the naked with a garment,
18:17That hath taken off his hand from the poore, that hath not receiued vsurie nor increase, hath executed my Iudgements, hath walked in my Statutes, he shall not die for the iniquitie of his father, he shall surely liue.
18:18As for his father, because hee cruelly oppressed, spoiled his brother by violence, and did that which is not good among his people, loe, euen he shall die in his iniquitie.
18:19Yet say yee, Why? doeth not the sonne beare the iniquitie of the father? when the sonne hath done that which is lawfull and right, and hath kept all my Statutes, and hath done them, he shall surely liue.
18:20The soule that sinneth, it shal die: the sonne shall not beare the iniquitie of the father, neither shal the father beare the iniquitie of the sonne; the righteousnesse of the righteous shall bee vpon him, and the wickednesse of the wicked shalbe vpon him.
18:21But if the wicked will turne from all his sinnes that he hath committed and keepe all my statutes, and doe that which is lawful and right, he shall surely liue, he shall not die.
18:22All his transgressions that he hath committed, they shall not be mentioned vnto him: in his righteousnesse, that he hath done, he shall liue.
18:23Haue I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die, saith the Lord God ? And not that he should returne from his wayes, and liue?
18:24But when the righteous turneth away fro his righteousnes, & committeth iniquitie, and doth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doth, shall he liue? all his righteousnesse that he hath done, shall not be mentioned: in his trespasse that he hath trespassed, and in his sinne that he hath sinned, in them shall he die.
18:25Yet yee say; The way of the Lord is not equall. Heare now, O house of Israel; Is not my way equall? are not your wayes vnequall?
18:26When a righteous man turneth away from his righteousnesse, & committeth iniquitie, and dieth in them; for his iniquitie that he hath done, shall he die.
18:27Againe, when the wicked man turneth away from his wickednesse that he hath committed, and doth that which is lawfull and right, he shall saue his soule aliue.
18:28Because he considereth and turneth away from all his transgressions that he hath committed, he shall surely liue, he shall not die.
18:29Yet saith the house of Israel; The way of the Lord is not equall. O house of Israel, are not my wayes equall? are not your wayes vnequall?
18:30Therefore I will iudge you, O house of Israel, euery one according to his wayes, saith the Lord God; repent, and turne your selues from all your transgressions: so iniquitie shall not be your ruine.
18:31Cast away from you all your transgressions, wherby yee haue transgressed, and make you a new heart and a new spirit: for why will yee die, O house of Israel?
18:32For I haue no pleasure in ye death of him that dieth, saith the Lord God: wherefore turne your selues, & liue ye.

18:1The worde of the Lord came vnto me againe, saying,
18:2What meane ye that ye speake this prouerbe, concerning the land of Israel, saying, The fathers haue eaten sowre grapes, and the childrens teeth are set on edge?
18:3As I liue, sayth the Lord God, ye shall vse this prouerbe no more in Israel.
18:4Beholde, all soules are mine, both the soule of the father, and also the soule of the sonne are mine: the soule that sinneth, it shall die.
18:5But if a man be iust, and doe that which is lawfull, and right,
18:6And hath not eaten vpon the mountaines, neither hath lift vp his eyes to the idoles of the house of Israel, neither hath defiled his neighbours wife, neither hath lyen with a menstruous woman,
18:7Neither hath oppressed any, but hath restored the pledge to his dettour: he that hath spoyled none by violence, but hath giuen his bread to the hungry, and hath couered the naked with a garment,
18:8And hath not giuen foorth vpon vsurie, neither hath taken any increase, but hath withdrawen his hand from iniquitie, and hath executed true iudgement betweene man and man,
18:9And hath walked in my statutes, and hath kept my iudgements to deale truely, he is iust, he shall surely liue, sayth the Lord God.
18:10If he beget a sonne, that is a thiefe, or a sheader of blood, if he do any one of these things,
18:11Though he doe not all these things, but either hath eaten vpon the mountaines, or defiled his neighbours wife,
18:12Or hath oppressed the poore and needy, or hath spoyled by violence, or hath not restored the pledge, or hath lift vp his eyes vnto the idoles, or hath committed abomination,
18:13Or hath giuen forth vpon vsurie, or hath taken increase, shall he liue? he shall not liue: seeing he hath done all these abominations, he shall die the death, and his blood shall be vpon him.
18:14But if he beget a sonne, that seeth all his fathers sinnes, which he hath done, and feareth, neither doeth such like,
18:15That hath not eaten vpon the mountaines, neither hath lift vp his eyes to the idols of ye house of Israel, nor hath defiled his neighbours wife,
18:16Neither hath oppressed any, nor hath withholden the pledge, neither hath spoyled by violence, but hath giuen his bread to the hungry, and hath couered the naked with a garment,
18:17Neither hath withdrawen his hand from the afflicted, nor receiued vsurie nor increase, but hath executed my iudgements, and hath walked in my statutes, he shall not die in the iniquitie of his father, but he shall surely liue.
18:18His father, because he cruelly oppressed and spoyled his brother by violence, and hath not done good among his people, loe, euen he dyeth in his iniquitie.
18:19Yet say ye, Wherefore shall not the sonne beare the iniquitie of the father? because ye sonne hath executed iudgement and iustice, and hath kept all my statutes, and done them, he shall surely liue,
18:20The same soule that sinneth, shall die: the sonne shall not beare the iniquitie of the father, neither shall the father beare the iniquitie of the sonne, but the righteousnes of the righteous shall be vpon him, and the wickednesse of the wicked shall be vpon him selfe.
18:21But if the wicked will returne from all his sinnes that he hath committed, and keepe all my statutes, and doe that which is lawfull and right, he shall surely liue, and shall not die.
18:22All his transgressions that he hath committed, they shall not be mentioned vnto him, but in his righteousnes that he hath done, he shall liue.
18:23Haue I any desire that the wicked should die, sayth the Lord God? or shall he not liue, if he returne from his wayes?
18:24But if the righteous turne away from his righteousnes, and commit iniquitie, and doe according to all the abominations, that the wicked man doeth, shall he liue? all his righteousnes that he hath done, shall not be mentioned: but in his transgression that he hath committed, and in his sinne that he hath sinned, in them shall he die.
18:25Yet ye say, The way of the Lord is not equall: heare now, O house of Israel. Is not my way equall? or are not your wayes vnequall?
18:26For when a righteous man turneth away from his righteousnes, and committeth iniquitie, he shall euen die for the same, he shall euen die for his iniquitie, that he hath done.
18:27Againe when the wicked turneth away from his wickednes that he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawfull and right, he shall saue his soule aliue.
18:28Because he considereth, and turneth away from all his transgressions that hee hath committed, he shall surely liue and shall not die.
18:29Yet saith ye house of Israel, The way of the Lord is not equall. O house of Israel, are not my wayes equall? or are not your wayes vnequall?
18:30Therefore I will iudge you, O house of Israel, euery one according to his wayes, sayth the Lord God: returne therefore and cause others to turne away from all your transgressions: so iniquitie shall not be your destruction.
18:31Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby ye haue transgressed, and make you a newe heart and a new spirit: for why will ye die, O house of Israel?
18:32For I desire not the death of him that dyeth, sayth the Lord God: cause therefore one another to returne, and liue ye.

18:1The worde of the Lorde came vnto me, on this maner:
18:2what meane ye by thys comen prouerbe, that ye vse in the lande of Israel, sayinge: The fathers haue eaten soure grapes, & the childrens tethe are set on edge:
18:3As truly as I lyue, sayeth the Lorde God, ye shall vse this byworde nomore in Israell.
18:4Beholde all soules are myne. Lyke as the father is myne, so is the sonne myne also. The soule that synneth, shall dye.
18:5If a man be godly, & do the thinge that is equall and ryght,
18:6he eateth not vpon the hylles: he lyfteth not hys eyes vp to the foule Idols of Israel: he defyleth not his neyghbours wyfe: he medleth wt no menstruous woman:
18:7he greueth no body: he geueth his detter his pledge agayne, he taketh none other mans good by violence: he parteth his mete wt the hongrye: he clotheth the naked:
18:8he lendeth nothynge vpon vsury he taketh nothynge ouer: he wythdraweth his hande from doynge wronge: he dealeth faythfully betwixte man & man:
18:9& walketh in my commaundementes, and kepeth my lawes, & perfourmeth them faythfully: This is a ryghtuous man, he shall surely lyue sayeth the Lorde God.
18:10If he nowe gett a sonne, that is a murtherer, a sheder of bloude: yf he do one of these thynges
18:11(though he do not all) he eateth vpon the hylles: he defyleth his neyghbours wyfe:
18:12he greueth the poore & nedy: he robbeth & spoyleth: he geueth not the detter his pledge againe, he lyfteth vp his eyes vnto Idols, & medleth with abhominable thinges:
18:13he lendeth vpon vsury, & taketh more ouer. Shall this man lyue? He shall not lyue. Seynge he hath done all these abhominacyons, he shall dye, his bloude shalbe vpon him.
18:14Nowe yf this man get a sonne also, that seeth all hys fathers synnes, which he hath done: and feareth, nether doth soch lyke:
18:15Namely, he eateth not vpon the mountaynes: he lyfteth not his eyes vp to the Idols of Israel: he defyleth not his neyghbours wyfe:
18:16he vexeth no man: he kepeth no mans pledge: he nether spoyleth, ner robbeth eny man: he dealeth his meate wt the hongrye: he clotheth the naked:
18:17he oppresseth not the poore: he receaueth no vsury, ner any thynge ouer: he kepeth my lawes, & walcketh in my commaundementes. This man shall not dye in his fathers synne, but shall lyue without fayle.
18:18As for his father: because he oppressed & spoyled hys brother, and dyd wyckedly amonge his people: lo, he is deed in his awne synne.
18:19And yet saye ye: Wherfore then shulde not thys sonne beare his fathers synne? Therfore: because the sonne hath done equytie & ryght, hath kepte all my commaundementes, & done them: therfore shall he lyue in dede.
18:20The same soule that synneth, shall dye. The sonne shall not beare the fathers offence, nether shall the father beare the sonnes offence. The ryghteousnes of the ryghtuous shall be vpon him, & the wickednes of the wicked shall be vpon him self also.
18:21But yf the vngodly wyll turne awaye from all his synnes that he hath done, and kepe all my commaundementes, and do the thinge that is equall and ryght: doutles he shall lyue, and not dye.
18:22As for all his synnes that he dyd before, they shall not be thought vpon: but in his righteousnes that he hath done, he shall lyue.
18:23For haue I eny pleasure in the death of a synner, sayeth the Lord God, but rather that he conuerte, and lyue?
18:24Agayne: yf the ryghtuous turne awaye from his ryghtuousnes, and do iniquyte, accordynge to all the abhominacyons, that the wicked man doth: shall he lyue? All the ryghtuousnes that he hath done, shall not be thought vpon: but in the faute that he hath offended withall, and in the synne that he hath done, he shall dye.
18:25And yet ye saye: Tush the waye of the Lord is not indifferent. Heare therfore ye house of Israel: Is not my waye ryght? Or, are not youre wayes rather wicked:
18:26When a ryghtuous man turneth awaye from hys ryghtuousnesse, and medleth wyth vngodlynes: he must dye therin: yee, for the vnrightuousnes that he hath done, must he dye.
18:27Agayne: when the wycked man turneth awaye from his wickednesse, that he hath done, and doth the thinge which is equall and ryght: he shall saue his soule alyue.
18:28For in so moch as he remembreth him selfe, & turneth him from all the vngodlynes that he hath vsed, he shall lyue and not dye.
18:29And yet sayeth the house of Israel: Tush, the waye of the Lorde is not equall. Are my wayes vnryght? O ye house of Israel: Are not youre wayes rather vnequall?
18:30As for me, I wyll iudge euery man, accordynge to his wayes, O ye house of Israel, sayeth the Lorde God. Wherfore, be conuerted, and turne you cleane from all your wyckednesse, so shall there no synne do you harme.
18:31Cast awaye from you all youre vngodlynesse, that ye haue done: make you newe hertes and a newe sprete. Wherfore wyll ye dye, O ye house of Israell?
18:32seynge I haue no pleasure in the death of him that dyeth, sayeth the Lord God. Turne you then, and ye shall lyue.
