| 33:1 | Agayne, the worde of the Lorde came vnto me: sayenge. |
| 33:2 | Thou sonne of man, Speke to the children of thy people, and tell them: Whan I sende a swearde vpon a lande, yf the people of the lande take a man of their countre, & set hym to be their watchman, |
| 33:3 | the same man (whan he seyth the swearde come vpon the lande) shall blowe the trompet, and warne the people. |
| 33:4 | If a man now heare the noyse of the trompet & wyll not be warned, and the swearde come: and take him awaye: his bloude shall be vpon his awne head: |
| 33:5 | for he herde the sound of the trompet, & wolde not take hede, therfore his bloude be vpon him. But yf he will receaue warninge, he shall saue his lyfe. |
| 33:6 | Agayne, yf the watch man se the swearde come, and shewe it not with the trompet, so that the people is not warned: yf the swearde come then, & take eny man from among them: the same shall be taken awaye in his awne synne, but his bloude wyll I require of the watchmans hande. |
| 33:7 | And now (O thou sonne of man) I haue made the a watchman vnto the house of Israel: that where as thou hearest eny thinge out of my mouth, thou mayest warne them on my behalfe. |
| 33:8 | If I saye vnto the wycked thou wycked, thou shalt surely dye, & thou geuest him not warnynge, that he maye bewarre of his vngodly waye: then shall the wycked dye in his awne synne, but his bloude wyll I require of thy hande. |
| 33:9 | Neuertheles, yf thou warne the wycked of hys waye, to turne from it, where as he yet wyll not be turned from it, then shal he dye because of his synne, but thou hast deliuered thy soule. |
| 33:10 | Therfore (O thou sonne of man) speake vnto the house of Israel. Ye, saye thus: Oure offences and synnes lye vpon vs, and we be corrupte in them: how shulde we then be restored vnto lyfe? |
| 33:11 | Tell them: As truly as I lyue saieth the Lord God, I haue no pleasure in the death of the wycked, but moch rather that the wycked turne from his waye, & lyue. Turne you, turne you from your vngodly wayes, O ye of the house of Israell. Oh wherfore wyll ye dye? |
| 33:12 | Thou sonne of man, tell the chyldren of thy people: The righteousnes of the ryghteous shal not saue him, whansoeuer he turneth awaye vnfaithfully. Agayne, the wyckednesse of the wycked shall not hurt hym, whan soeuer he conuerteth from hys vngodlynesse. And the ryghteousnesse of the ryghteous shall not saue his lyfe, whansoeuer he synneth. |
| 33:13 | If I saye vnto the ryghteous, that he shal surely lyue, and so he trust to his awne ryghteousnesse, and do synne, then shall hys righteousnesse be nomore thought vpon, but in the wyckednesse that he hath done he shal dye. |
| 33:14 | Agayne, yf I saye vnto the wycked: thou shalt surely dye: and so he turne from his synnes, and do the thinge that is lawfull and right: |
| 33:15 | In so moch that the same wicked man geueth the pledge agayne, restoreth that he had taken awaye by robbyry, walcketh in the commaundementes of lyfe, and doth no wronge. Then shall he surely lyue, and not dye. |
| 33:16 | Yee, the synnes that he hath done, shall neuer be thought vpon. For in so moch as he doth now the thinge that is lawfull & ryght, he shall lyue. |
| 33:17 | And yet the chyldren of thy people saye: Tush: the waye of the Lorde is not ryght, but they lye, where as their awne waye is rather vnright. |
| 33:18 | When the ryghteous turneth from his ryghteousnes and doth the thing that is wicked he shall dye therfore. |
| 33:19 | But yf the wicked turne from his wickednesse, doing the thinge that is lawfull and right, he shall lyue therfore. |
| 33:20 | Yet ye saye: the waye of the Lorde is not equall. O ye house of Israell I will iudge euery one of you after his wayes. |
| 33:21 | In the .xii. yeare, the .v. daye of the tenth moneth of oure captiuite, it happened, that one which was fled out of Ierusalem, came vnto me, and sayd: the citye is destroyed. |
| 33:22 | Now the hande of the Lord had bene vpon me the euening afore this man (which was escaped) came vnto me, & had opened my mouth, vntyll the mornyng that he came to me: yee, he opened my mouth, so that I was nomore domme. |
| 33:23 | Then came the worde of the Lord vnto me, & sayd. |
| 33:24 | Thou sonne of man, these that dwell in the wasted lande of Israel, saye: Abraham was but one man, and he had the lande in possession: now are we many & the lande is geuen vs to possesse also. |
| 33:25 | And therfore tell them. Thus sayeth the Lord: In the bloud haue ye eaten, youre eyes haue ye lyft vp to Idoles, and haue shed bloud: shall ye then haue the lande in possession? |
| 33:26 | Ye leane vpon your sweardes, ye worcke abhominacions, euery one defileth his neyghbours wife: and shall ye then possesse the lande? |
| 33:27 | Saye thou these wordes vnto them. Thus saieth the Lord God. As truly as I lyue all ye that dwell in thys wyldernesse, shalbe slayne with the swearde: whatsoeuer is vpon the felde, will I geue vnto the beastes to be deuoured: those that be in strong holdes & dennes, shall dye of the pestilence. |
| 33:28 | For I wyll make the lande so desolate and waste, & the pompe of her strength shal come to an ende. The mountaynes in Israel shalbe so waste that noman shall trauayle therby. |
| 33:29 | Then shall they lerne to knowe, that I am the Lord, when I make the lande waste & desolate, because of all their abhominacions, that they haue wrought. |
| 33:30 | And thou sonne of man, the children of thy people that talcke of the, by the walles and in the dores of their houses, sayinge one to another: Come, let vs heare, what worde is gone forth from the Lord. |
| 33:31 | These come vnto the, after the maner of a greate people: yee, as who sayth they were my people, they syt downe before the, and heare thy wordes, but they do not therafter for in their mouthes they make a Ieste of them, and theyr herte goeth after theyr awne couetous lucre. |
| 33:32 | And as a balet that hath a swete tune, and is pleasaunt to synge, so shalt thou be vnto them: thy wordes shal they heare, but they will not do therafter. |
| 33:33 | Whan this commeth to passe (for lo, it commeth in dede) then shall they knowe, that there hath bene a prophet amonge them. |
| 33:1 | And the word of the Lord was maad to me, |
| 33:2 | and he seide, Thou, sone of man, speke to the sones of thi puple, and thou schalt seie to hem, A lond whanne Y bringe in a swerd on it, and the puple of the lond takith o man of hise laste men, and makith hym aspiere on hym, |
| 33:3 | and he seeth a swerd comynge on the lond, and sowneth with a clarioun, and tellith to the puple, |
| 33:4 | forsothe a man that herith, who euer he is, the sowne of the clarioun, and kepith not him silf, and the swerd cometh, and takith hym awei, the blood of hym schal be on the heed of hym. |
| 33:5 | He herde the sown of the clarioun, and kepte not hym silf, his blood schal be in hym; forsothe if he kepith hym silf, he schal saue his lijf. |
| 33:6 | That if the aspiere seeth a swerd comynge, and sowneth not with a clarioun, and the puple kepith not hym silf, and the swerd cometh, and takith awei a man of hem, sotheli he is takun in his wickidnesse; but Y schal seke the blood of hym of the hond of the aspiere. |
| 33:7 | And, thou, sone of man, Y yaf thee aspiere to the hous of Israel; therfor thou schalt here of my mouth a word, and schalt telle to hem of me. |
| 33:8 | If whanne Y seie to the wickid man, Thou, wickid man, schalt die bi deth, thou spekist not, that the wickid man kepe hym silf fro his weie, thilke wickid man schal die in his wickidnesse, but Y schal seke his blood of thin hond. |
| 33:9 | Forsothe if whanne thou tellist to the wickid man, that he be conuertid fro his weies, he is not conuertid fro his weie, he schal die in his wickidnesse; certis thou hast delyuered thi soule. |
| 33:10 | Therfore thou, sone of man, seie to the hous of Israel, Thus ye spaken, seiynge, Oure wickidnessis and oure synnes ben on vs, and we failen in tho; hou therfor moun we lyue? seie thou to hem, |
| 33:11 | Y lyue, seith the Lord God, Y nyle the deth of the wickid man, but that the wickid man be conuertid fro his weie, and lyue; be ye conuertid fro youre worste weies, and whi schulen ye die, the hous of Israel? |
| 33:12 | Therfor thou, sone of man, seie to the sones of thi puple, The riytfulnesse of a riytful man schal not delyuere hym, in whateuer dai he doith synne; and the wickidnesse of a wickid man schal not anoye him, in what euere dai he is conuertid fro his wickidnesse; and a iust man schal not mowe lyue in his riytfulnesse, in what euer dai he doith synne. |
| 33:13 | Also if Y seie to a iust man, that he schal lyue bi lijf, and he tristith in his riytfulnesse, and doith wickidnesse, alle his riytfulnessis schulen be youun to foryetyng, and in his wickidnesse which he wrouyte, in that he schal die. |
| 33:14 | Forsothe if Y seie to the wickid man, Thou schalt die bi deth, and he doith penaunce for his synne, and doith dom and riytfulnesse, |
| 33:15 | and if thilke wickid man restorith a wed, and yeldith raueyn, and goith in comaundementis of lijf, and doith not ony vniust thing, he schal lyue bi lijf, and schal not die. |
| 33:16 | Alle hise synnes which he synnede, schulen not be arettid to hym; he dide doom and riytfulnesse, he schal lyue bi lijf. |
| 33:17 | And the sones of thi puple seiden, The weie of the Lord is not euene weiyte; and the weie of hem is vniust. |
| 33:18 | For whanne a iust man goith awei fro his riytfulnesse, and doith wickidnessis, he schal die in tho; |
| 33:19 | and whanne a wickid man goith awei fro his wickidnesse, and doith dom and riytfulnes, he schal lyue in tho. |
| 33:20 | And ye seien, The weie of the Lord is not riytful. Y schal deme ech man bi hise weies of you, the hous of Israel. |
| 33:21 | And it was doon in the tweluethe yeer, in the tenthe monethe, in the fyuethe dai of the monethe of our passyng ouer, he that fledde fro Jerusalem cam to me, and seide, The citee is distried. |
| 33:22 | Forsothe the hond of the Lord was maad to me in the euentid, bifore that he cam that fledde, and he openyde my mouth, til he cam to me eerli; and whanne my mouth was openyd, Y was no more stille. |
| 33:23 | And the word of the Lord was maad to me, and he seide, |
| 33:24 | Thou, sone of man, thei that dwellen in `thingis in poynt to falle doun on the erthe of Israel, seien, spekynge, Abraham was oon, and bi eritage he hadde the lond in possessioun; forsothe we ben manye, the lond is youun to vs in to possessioun. |
| 33:25 | Therfor thou schalt seie to hem, The Lord God seith these thingis, Whether ye that eten in blood, and reisen youre iyen to youre vnclennessis, and scheden blood, schulen haue in possessioun the lond bi eritage? |
| 33:26 | Ye stoden in youre swerdis, ye diden youre abhomynaciouns, and ech man defoulide the wijf of his neiybore; and schulen ye welde the lond bi eritage? |
| 33:27 | Thou schalt seie these thingis to hem, Thus seith the Lord God, Y lyue, for thei that dwellen in `thingis redi to falle doun, schulen falle doun bi swerd, and he that is in the feld, schal be youun to beestis to be deuourid; but thei that ben in stronge holdis and in dennes, schulen die bi pestilence. |
| 33:28 | And Y schal yyue the lond in to wildirnesse, and in to desert, and the pryde and strengthe therof schal faile; and the hillis of Israel schulen be maad desolat, for noon is that schal passe bi tho. |
| 33:29 | And thei schulen wite, that Y am the Lord, whanne Y schal yyue her lond desolat and desert, for alle her abhomynaciouns whiche thei wrouyten. |
| 33:30 | And thou, sone of man, the sones of thi puple that speken of thee bisidis wallis, and in the doris of housis, and seien, oon to an other, a man to his neiybore, and speken, Come ye, and here we, what is the word goynge out fro the Lord; |
| 33:31 | and thei comen to thee, as if my puple entrith, and my puple sitten bifore thee, and thei heren thi wordis, and doon not tho; for thei turnen tho in to the song of her mouth, and her herte sueth her auerice; |
| 33:32 | and it is to hem as a song of musik, which is songun bi soft and swete sown; and thei heren thi wordis, and thei doon not tho; |
| 33:33 | and whanne that that is bifore seide cometh, for lo! it cometh, thanne thei schulen wite, that `profetis weren among hem. |
| 33:1 | Agayne, the worde off the LORDE came vnto me, sayenge: |
| 33:2 | Thou sonne off man, Speake to the childre of thy people, and tell them: When I sende a swearde vpon a londe, yf the people off the londe take a man off their countre, and set him to be their watchman: |
| 33:3 | ye same man (wha he seyth the swearde come vpon the londe) shall blowe the trompet, and warne the people. |
| 33:4 | Yff a man now heare the noyse off the trompet & will not be warned, and the swearde come ad take him awaye: his bloude shall be vpo his owne heade: |
| 33:5 | For he herde the soude of the trompet, and wolde not take hede, therfore his bloude be vpon him. But yff he will receaue warnynge, he shal saue his life. |
| 33:6 | Agayne, yf the watch man se the swerde come, and shewe it not with the trompet, so yt the people is not warned: yff the swearde come then, and take eny man from amoge the: the same shall be taken awaye in his owne synne, but his bloude will I requyre off the watchmans honde. |
| 33:7 | And now (O thou sonne of man) I haue made the a watchman vnto the house of Israel: that where as thou hearest eny thinge out of my mouth, thou mayest warne them on my behalfe. |
| 33:8 | Yff I saye vnto the wicked: thou wicked, thou shalt surely dye: and thou geuest him not warnynge, that he maye bewarre off his vngodly waye: then shall the wicked dye in his owne synne, but his bloude will I requyre of thy honde. |
| 33:9 | Neuertheles yf thou warne the wicked off his waye, to turne from it, where as he yet wil not be turned from it: then shal he dye because off his synne, but thou hast delyuered thy soule. |
| 33:10 | Therfore (O thou sonne off man) speake vnto the house off Israel, Ye saye thus: Oure offences and synnes lye vpon vs, and we be corrupte in them: how shulde we then be restored vnto life? |
| 33:11 | Tell them: As truly as I lyue (saieth the LORDE God) I haue no pleasure in the death off the wicked, but moch rather that the wicked turne from his waye and lyue. Turne you, turne you from yor vngodly wayes, o ye off the house off Israel. Oh, wherfore will ye dye? |
| 33:12 | Thou sonne off man, tell the children off thy people: The rightuousnes of the rightuous shall not saue him, whan so euer he turneth awaye vnfaithfully: Agayne, the wickednesse of the wicked shal not hurte him, whan so euer he conuerteth from his vngodlynesse: And ye rightuousnesse of the rightuous shal not saue his life, when so euer he synneth. |
| 33:13 | Yff I saye vnto the rightuous, that he shall surely lyue, and so he trust to his owne rightuousnesse, and do synne: then shall his rightuousnesse be nomore thought vpon, but in the wickednesse that he hath done, he shall dye. |
| 33:14 | Agayne, yff I saye to the wicked: thou shalt surely dye: and so he turne fro his synnes, and do the thinge that is laufull and right: |
| 33:15 | In so moch that the same wicked ma geueth the pledge agayne, restoreth that he had taken awaye by robbery, walketh in the comaundementes off life, and doth no wroge: Then shall he surely lyue, and not dye. |
| 33:16 | Yee the synnes that he had done, shal neuer be thought vpon: For in so moch as he doth now the thynge that is laufull and right, he shall lyue. |
| 33:17 | And yet the children off thy people saye: Tush, the waye of the LORDE is not right, where as their owne waye is rather vnright. |
| 33:18 | When the rightuous turneth from his rightuousnesse, and doeth the thynge that is wicked, he shall dye therfore. |
| 33:19 | But yf the wicked turne from his wickednesse, doinge the thinge that is laufull and right, he shall lyue therfore. |
| 33:20 | Yet ye saye: the waye of ye LORDE is not equall. O ye house of Israel, I wil iudge euery one of you after his wayes. |
| 33:21 | In the xij. yeare, the v. daye of the x. Moneth of oure captyuyte, it happened, that one which was fled out of Ierusalem, came vnto me, and sayde: ye cite is destroyed. |
| 33:22 | Now the honde of the LORDE had bene vpon me the euenynge, afore this man (which was escaped) came vnto me, and had opened my mouth, vntyll the mornynge that he came to me: Yee he opened my mouth, so yt I was nomore domme. |
| 33:23 | Then came the worde of ye LORDE vnto me, and sayde: |
| 33:24 | Thou sonne off man, these that dwell in the waisted londe of Israel, saye: Abraham was but one man, ad he had the londe in possessio: now are we many, and the londe is geuen vs to possesse also |
| 33:25 | And therfore tell them: Thus saieth the LORDE: In the bloude haue ye eaten, youre eyes haue ye lift vp to Idols, and haue shed bloude: shal ye then haue the londe in possession? |
| 33:26 | Ye leane vpon youre sweardes, ye worke abhominacions, euery one defyleth his neghbours wife: and shal ye then possesse the londe? |
| 33:27 | Saye thou these wordes vnto the: Thus saieth the LORDE God: As truly as I lyue, all ye that dwell in this wildernesse, shall be slayne wt the swearde: what so is vpon the felde, will I geue vnto the beestes to be deuoured: those that be in stronge holdes and dennes, shall dye off the pestilece. |
| 33:28 | For I wil make the londe desolate and waist, and ye pope off hir strength shall come to an ende. The mountaynes in Israel shalbe so waiste that no man shall trauayle therby. |
| 33:29 | Then shall they lerne to knowe, that I am the LORDE, whe I make the lode waist and desolate, because off all their abhominacions, that they haue wrought. |
| 33:30 | And thou sonne off man, the children off thy people yt talke of the, by the walles ad in the dores of their houses, sayenge one to another: come, let vs heare, what worde is gone forth from the LORDE: |

| 33:33 | Whe this commeth to passe (for lo, it cometh in dede) then shal they knowe, that there hath bene a prophet amonge them. |
