Joel - Chapter: 1

>
1:1A word of Jehovah that hath been unto Joel, son of Pethuel:
1:2Hear this, ye aged ones, And give ear, all ye inhabitants of the land, Hath this been in your days? Or in the days of your fathers?
1:3Concerning it to your sons talk ye, And your sons to their sons, And their sons to another generation.
1:4What is left of the palmer-worm, eaten hath the locust, And what is left of the locust, Eaten hath the cankerworm, And what is left of the cankerworm, Eaten hath the caterpillar.
1:5Awake, ye drunkards, and weep, And howl all drinking wine, because of the juice, For it hath been cut off from your mouth.
1:6For a nation hath come up on my land, Strong, and there is no number, Its teeth `are' the teeth of a lion, And it hath the jaw-teeth of a lioness.
1:7It hath made my vine become a desolation, And my fig-tree become a chip, It hath made it thoroughly bare, and hath cast down, Made white have been its branches.
1:8Wail, as a virgin girdeth with sackcloth, For the husband of her youth.
1:9Cut off hath been present and libation from the house of Jehovah, Mourned have the priests, ministrants of Jehovah.
1:10Spoiled is the field, mourned hath the ground, For spoiled is the corn, Dried up hath been new wine, languish doth oil.
1:11Be ashamed, ye husbandmen, Howl, vine-dressers, for wheat and for barley, For perished hath the harvest of the field.
1:12The vine hath been dried up, And the fig-tree doth languish, Pomegranate, also palm, and apple-tree, All trees of the field have withered, For dried up hath been joy from the sons of men.
1:13Gird, and lament, ye priests, Howl, ye ministrants of the altar, Come in, lodge in sackcloth, ministrants of my God, For withheld from the house of your God hath been present and libation.
1:14Sanctify a fast, proclaim a restraint, Gather the elders -- all the inhabitants of the land, `Into' the house of Jehovah your God,
1:15And cry unto Jehovah, `Alas for the day! For near `is' a day of Jehovah, And as destruction from the mighty it cometh.
1:16Is not before our eyes food cut off? From the house of our God joy and rejoicing?
1:17Rotted have scattered things under their clods, Desolated have been storehouses, Broken down have been granaries, For withered hath the corn.
1:18How have cattle sighed! Perplexed have been droves of oxen, For there is no pasture for them, Also droves of sheep have been desolated.
1:19Unto Thee, O Jehovah, I do call, For fire hath consumed comely places of a wilderness, And a flame hath set on fire all trees of the field.
1:20Also the cattle of the field long for Thee, For dried up have been streams of water, And fire hath consumed comely places of a wilderness!'

1:1The word of the LORD that came to Joel the son of Pethuel.
1:2Hear this, ye old men, and give ear, all ye inhabitants of the land. Hath this been in your days, or even in the days of your fathers?
1:3Tell ye your children of it, and let your children tell their children, and their children another generation.
1:4That which the palmerworm hath left hath the locust eaten; and that which the locust hath left hath the cankerworm eaten; and that which the cankerworm hath left hath the caterpiller eaten.
1:5Awake, ye drunkards, and weep; and howl, all ye drinkers of wine, because of the new wine, for it is cut off from your mouth.
1:6For a nation is come up upon my land, strong, and without number, whose teeth are the teeth of a lion, and he hath the cheek teeth of a great lion.
1:7He hath laid my vine waste, and barked my fig tree: he hath made it clean bare, and cast it away; the branches thereof are made white.
1:8Lament like a virgin girded with sackcloth for the husband of her youth.
1:9The meat offering and the drink offering is cut off from the house of the LORD; the priests, the LORD'S ministers, mourn.
1:10The field is wasted, the land mourneth; for the corn is wasted: the new wine is dried up, the oil languisheth.
1:11Be ye ashamed, O ye husbandmen; howl, O ye vinedressers, for the wheat and for the barley; because the harvest of the field is perished.
1:12The vine is dried up, and the fig tree languisheth; the pomegranate tree, the palm tree also, and the apple tree, even all the trees of the field, are withered: because joy is withered away from the sons of men.
1:13Gird yourselves, and lament, ye priests: howl, ye ministers of the altar: come, lie all night in sackcloth, ye ministers of my God: for the meat offering and the drink offering is withholden from the house of your God.
1:14Sanctify ye a fast, call a solemn assembly, gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land into the house of the LORD your God, and cry unto the LORD.
1:15Alas for the day! for the day of the LORD is at hand, and as a destruction from the Almighty shall it come.
1:16Is not the meat cut off before our eyes, yea, joy and gladness from the house of our God?
1:17The seed is rotten under their clods, the garners are laid desolate, the barns are broken down; for the corn is withered.
1:18How do the beasts groan! the herds of cattle are perplexed, because they have no pasture; yea, the flocks of sheep are made desolate.
1:19O LORD, to thee will I cry: for the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness, and the flame hath burned all the trees of the field.
1:20The beasts of the field cry also unto thee: for the rivers of waters are dried up, and the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness.

1:1The word of Jehovah that was to Joel, the son of Pethuel:
1:2Hear this, you old men, and give ear, all you people of the land. Has this been in your days, or even in the days of your fathers?
1:3Tell your sons about it, and your sons to their sons, and their sons to another generation.
1:4What was left by the cutter, the swarming locust ate; and that left of the swarming locust, the locust larvae ate; and that left of the locust larvae, the stripping locust ate.
1:5Awake, drunkards, and weep. And wail, all wine drinkers, over the grape must, for it is cut off from your mouth.
1:6For a nation has come up on my land, strong and without number; its teeth are the teeth of a lion, and it has the jaw teeth of a lioness.
1:7He has laid my vine waste and has splintered my fig tree. He has stripped it, and he threw it away; its branches grow white.
1:8Wail like a virgin girded with sackcloth over the husband of her youth.
1:9The food offering and the drink offering have been cut off from the house of Jehovah; the priests, Jehovah's ministers, mourn.
1:10The field is wasted; the land mourns, for the grain is wasted. The new wine is dried up, the oil tree droops.
1:11Be ashamed, farmers, howl, vinedressers, for the wheat and for the barley; because the harvest of the field has perished.
1:12The vine is dried up and the fig tree droops, the pomegranate, and the palm tree, and the apple tree; all the trees of the field are dried up, because joy has dried up from the sons of men.
1:13Gird up and lament, priests. Howl, ministers of the altar. Come, spend the night in sackcloth, ministers of my God. For the food offering and the drink offering are held back from the house of your God.
1:14Set apart a fast; call a solemn assembly; gather the elders, all the inhabitants of the land, into the house of Jehovah your God, and cry to Jehovah.
1:15Alas for the day! For the day of Jehovah is at hand. And it shall come as a destruction from the Almighty.
1:16Is not the food cut off before your eyes, joy and gladness from the house of our God?
1:17The seed shrivels under their clods; the storage bins are laid waste, the granaries are broken down, for the grain has dried up.
1:18How the beasts groan! The herds of livestock are vexed, for there is no pasture for them. Even the flocks of sheep are perishing.
1:19O Jehovah, to You I will cry, for the fire has burned up the pastures of the wilderness, and the flame has burned all the trees of the field.
1:20The beasts of the field also cry to You, for the rivers of water are dried up, and the fire has burned up the pastures of the wilderness.
