Joel - Chapter: 2

>
2:1Blow yee the trumpet in Zion, & sound an alarme in my holy mountaine: let all the inhabitants of the land tremble: for the day of the Lord cometh, for it is nie at hand;
2:2A day of darkenesse and of gloominesse, a day of clouds and of thicke darkenesse, as the morning spread vpon the mountaines: a great people and a strong, there hath not beene euer the like, neither shall be any more after it, euen to the yeres of many generations.
2:3A fire deuoureth before them, and behind them a flame burneth: the land is as the garden of Eden before them, and behind them a desolate wildernes, yea and nothing shall escape them.
2:4The appearance of them is as the appearance of horses; and as horse men, so shall they runne.
2:5Like the noise of charets on the tops of mountaines shall they leape, like the noise of a flame of fire that deuoureth the stubble, as a strong people, set in battell aray.
2:6Before their face the people shall be much pained: all faces shall gather blacknesse.
2:7They shall runne like mighty men, they shall clime the wall like men of warre, and they shall march euery one on his wayes, and they shall not breake their rankes.
2:8Neither shall one thrust another, they shall walke euery one in his path: and when they fall vpon the sword, they shall not be wounded.
2:9They shall runne to and fro in the citie: they shall runne vpon the wall: they shall clime vp vpon the houses: they shall enter in at the windowes, like a theefe.
2:10The earth shall quake before them, the heauens shall tremble, the Sun & the Moone shall be darke, & the starres shall withdrawe their shining.
2:11And the Lord shall vtter his voyce before his armie, for his campe is very great: for he is strong that executeth his word: for the day of the Lord is great and very terrible, and who can abide it?
2:12Therefore also now, saith the Lord, turne yee euen to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning.
2:13And rent your heart and not your garments; and turne vnto the Lord your God: for he is gracious and mercifull, slow to anger, and of great kindnesse, and repenteth him of the euill.
2:14Who knoweth if he will returne and repent, and leaue a blessing behind him, euen a meate offring and a drinke offring vnto the Lord your God?
2:15Blow the trumpet in Zion, sanctifie a fast, call a solemne assembly.
2:16Gather the people: sanctifie the congregation: assemble the elders: gather the children, and those that sucke the breasts: let the bridegroome goe forth of his chamber, and the bride out of her closet.
2:17Let the priests, the ministers of the Lord, weepe betweene the porch and the altar, & let them say; Spare thy people O Lord, and giue not thine heritage to reproch; that the heathen should rule ouer them: Wherefore should they say among the people, Where is their God?
2:18Then will the Lord be iealous for his land, and pitie his people.
2:19Yea the Lord will answere and say vnto his people; Behold, I will send you corne and wine, and oyle, and yee shall be satisfied therewith: and I will no more make you a reproch among the heathen.
2:20But I will remoue farre off from you the northren armie, & will driue him into a land barren and desolate, with his face toward the East sea, and his hinder part towards the vtmost Sea, and his stinke shall come vp, and his ill sauour shall come vp, because he hath done great things.
2:21Feare not, O land, be glad and reioyce: for the Lord will doe great things.
2:22Be not afraid, yee beasts of the field: for the pastures of the wildernesse doe spring, for the tree beareth her fruit, the fig tree and the vine doe yeeld their strength.
2:23Be glad then, ye children of Zion, and reioyce in the Lord your God: for he hath giuen you the former raine moderately, and he will cause to come downe for you the raine, the former raine, & the latter raine in the first month.
2:24And the floores shall bee full of wheate, and the fats shall ouerflowe with wine and oyle.
2:25And I will restore to you the yeeres that the locust hath eaten, the canker worme, and the caterpiller, and the palmer worme, my great armie which I sent among you.
2:26And ye shall eate in plentie, and be satisfied, and praise the Name of the Lord your God, that hath dealt wonderously with you: and my people shall neuer be ashamed.
2:27And ye shal know that I am in the midst of Israel, and that I am the Lord your God, and none else: and my people shall neuer be ashamed.
2:28And it shall come to passe afterward, that I will powre out my Spirit vpon all flesh, and your sonnes and your daughters shall prophecie, your old men shall dreame dreames, your yong men shall see visions.
2:29And also vpon the seruants, and vpon the handmaids in those dayes will I powre out my Spirit.
2:30And I will shew wonders in the heauens, and in the earth, blood and fire, and pillars of smoke.
2:31The Sunne shall be turned into darkenesse, and the Moone into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the Lord come.
2:32And it shall come to passe that whosoeuer shall call on the Name of the Lord, shall bee deliuered: for in mount Zion and in Ierusalem shalbe deliuerance, as the Lord hath said, and in the remnant, whom the Lord shall call.

2:1Blowe the trumpet in Zion, and shoute in mine holy mountaine: let all the inhabitants of the lande tremble: for the day of the Lord is come: for it is at hand.
2:2A day of darkenesse, and of blacknesse, a day of cloudes, and obscuritie, as the morning spred vpon the mountaines, so is there a great people, and a mighty: there was none like it from the beginning, neither shalbe any more after it, vnto the yeeres of many generations.
2:3A fire deuoureth before him, and behinde him a flame burneth vp: the land is as the garden of Eden before him, and behinde him a desolate wildernesse, so that nothing shall escape him.
2:4The beholding of him is like the sight of horses, and like the horsemen, so shall they runne.
2:5Like the noyse of charrets in the toppes of the mountaines shall they leape, like the noyse of a flame of fire that deuoureth the stubble, and as a mightie people prepared to the battel.
2:6Before his face shall the people tremble: all faces shall gather blackenesse.
2:7They shall runne like strong men, and goe vp to the wall like men of warre, and euery man shall goe forward in his wayes, and they shall not stay in their paths.
2:8Neither shall one thrust another, but euery one shall walke in his path: and when they fall vpon the sword, they shall not be wounded.
2:9They shall runne to and from in the citie: they shall runne vpon the wall: they shall clime vp vpon the houses, and enter in at ye windowes like ye thiefe.
2:10The earth shall tremble before him, ye heauens shall shake, the sunne and the moone shalbe darke, and the starres shall withdraw their shining,
2:11And the Lord shall vtter his voyce before his hoste: for his hoste is very great: for he is strog that doeth his word: for the day of the Lord is great and very terrible, and who can abide it?
2:12Therefore also now the Lord sayth, Turne you vnto me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning,
2:13And rent your heart, and not your clothes: and turne vnto the Lord your God, for he is gratious, and mercifull, slowe to anger, and of great kindnes, and repenteth him of the euill.
2:14Who knoweth, is he wil returne and repent and leaue a blessing behinde him, euen a meate offring, and a drinke offring vnto ye Lord your God?
2:15Blowe the trumpet in Zion, sanctifie a fast, call a solemne assembly.
2:16Gather the people: sanctifie the congregation, gather the elders: assemble the children, and those that sucke the breastes: let the bridegrome go forth of his chamber, and the bride out of her bride chamber.
2:17Let the Priestes, the ministers of the Lord weepe betweene the porch and the altar, and let them say, Spare thy people, O Lord, and giue not thine heritage into reproche that the heathen should rule ouer them. Wherefore should they say among the people, Where is their God?
2:18Then will the Lord be ielous ouer his land, and spare his people.
2:19Yea, the Lord wil answere and say vnto his people, Beholde, I will send you corne, and wine, and oyle, and you shalbe satisfied therewith: and I will no more make you a reproche among the heathen,
2:20But I will remooue farre off from you the Northren armie, and I will driue him into a land, barren and desolate with his face toward the East sea, and his end to the vtmost sea, and his stinke shall come vp, and his corruption shall ascend, because he hath exalted himselfe to do this.
2:21Feare not, O land, but be glad, and reioyce: for the Lord wil do great things.
2:22Be not afrayde, ye beastes of the fielde: for the pastures of the wildernesse are greene: for the tree beareth her fruite: the figge tree and the vine do giue their force.
2:23Be glad then, ye children of Zion, and reioyce in the Lord your God: for he hath giuen you the rayne of righteousnes, he wil cause to come downe for you the rayne, euen the first raine, and the latter raine in the first moneth.
2:24And the barnes shalbe full of wheate, and the presses shall abound with wine and oyle.
2:25And I will render you the yeeres that the grashopper hath eaten, the canker worme and the caterpiller and the palmer worme, my great hoste which I sent among you.
2:26So you shall eate and be satisfied and praise the Name of the Lord your God, that hath dealt marueilously with you: and my people shall neuer be ashamed.
2:27Ye shall also know, that I am in the middes of Israel, and that I am the Lord your God and none other, and my people shall neuer be ashamed.
2:28And afterward will I powre out my Spirit vpon all flesh: and your sonnes and your daughters shall prophecie: your olde men shall dreame dreames, and your yong men shall see visions,
2:29And also vpon the seruants, and vpon the maydes in those dayes wil I powre my Spirit.
2:30And I will shewe wonders in the heauens and in the earth: blood and fire, and pillars of smoke.
2:31The sunne shalbe turned into darkenesse, and the moone into blood, before the great and terrible day of the Lord come.
2:32But whosoeuer shall call on the Name of the Lord, shalbe saued: for in mount Zion, and in Ierusale shalbe deliuerance, as the Lord hath said, and in the remnant, whom the Lord shall call.

2:1Blowe out the trompette in Syon, and crye vpon my holy hyll, that all soche as dwell in the lande, maye tremble at it: for the daye of the Lorde commeth, and is harde at hande:
2:2a darcke daye, a gloomynge daye, a cloudy daye, yee, and a stormy daye, lyke as the mornynge spredeth out vpon the hylles. Namely, a greate and myghtye people: soch as haue not bene sence the beginninge, nether shall be after them for euermore.
2:3Before him shall be a consumynge fyre, and behynde him a burnynge flame. The lande shalbe as a garden of pleasure before him, but behinde him shall it be a very waste wyldernesse, and there is no man, that shall escape hym:
2:4They are to loke vpon lyke barbed horses, & runne lyke horsmen.
2:5They skippe vp vpon the hylles, as it were the sounde of charettes: as the flame of fyre that consumeth the strawe, and as a myghty people redy to the batayll.
2:6The folke shalbe afrayed of hym, all faces shalbe as blacke as a pot:
2:7These shall runne lyke gyauntes, and leape ouer the walles lyke men of warre. Euery man in his goinge shall kepe hys araye, and not goo out of hys path.
2:8There shall not one driue another, but eche shall kepe his awne waye. They shall breake in at the wyndowes, & not be hurte:
2:9They shall come into the cytie, & runne vpon the walles. They shall clyme vp vpon the houses, and slyppe in at the wyndowes lyke a thefe.
2:10The earth shall quake before hym, yee, the heauens shalbe moued. The sunne & the moone shall be darckened, and the starres shall withdrawe theyr shyne.
2:11The Lord shall shewe hys voyce before hys hooste, for his hoost is greate, stronge, and myghtye to fulfyll hys commaundement. Thys is that greate and maruelous fearfull daye of the Lorde. And who is able to abyde it?
2:12Nowe therfore sayeth the Lorde. Turne you vnto me with all your hertes, with fastinge, wepynge and mournynge,
2:13rente your hertes, and not youre clothes. Turne you vnto the Lord your God, for he is gracious and mercyfull, longe sufferynge and of great compassyon: and redy to pardone wyckednes.
2:14Then (no doute) he also shall turne, and forgeue, and after his chastenynge, he shall lett your increase remayne, for meat and drinckoffrynges vnto the Lord your God?
2:15Blowe out with the trompette in Syon, proclayme a fastynge, call the congregacyon,
2:16and gather the people together: warne the congregacyon, gather the elders, brynge the chyldren & sucklynges together. Lett the brydegrome go forth of his chambre, and the bryde out of her closet.
2:17Lett the prestes serue the Lorde betwyxte the porch and the aulter, wepinge and sayinge: be fauourable, O Lorde, be fauourable vnto thy people: let not thyne heritage be brought to soch confusyon, lest the Heathen be lordes therof. Wherfore shulde they saye amonge the Heathen: where is nowe theyr God.
2:18Then shall the Lorde be gelous ouer his lande, and spare hys people:
2:19yee, the Lorde shall answere, and saye vnto his people: Beholde, I wyll sende you corne, wyne & oyle, so that ye shall haue plenty of them: and I will nomore geue you ouer to be a reprofe amonge the Heathen.
2:20Agayne, as for him of the north, I shall dryue him farre from you: and shute him out into a drye & waste lande, his face towarde the east see, and his hynder partes towarde the vtmost see. The styncke of him shall go vp, and his fylthy corrupcyon shall fall vpon him selfe, because he hath dealt so proudly.
2:21Feare not (O lande) but be glad and reioyse, for the Lorde will do great thinges.
2:22Be not ye afrayed nether (O ye beastes of the felde) for the pastures shalbe grene, and the trees shall beare their frute: the fyggetrees and vyneyardes shall geue theyr increase.
2:23Be glad then (O ye chyldren of Syon) and reioyse in the Lorde youre God, for he hath geuen you a teacher of ryghteousnesse: & he it is that shall sende you downe shouers of rayne, early and late in the fyrst moneth:
2:24so that the garners shalbe full of corne, and the presses plenteous in wyne and oyle.
2:25And as for the yeares that the gresshoper, locuste, blastynge, and caterpyller (my greate hoost, which I sent amonge you) haue eaten vp, I shall restore them to you agayne.
2:26so that ye shall haue ynough to eate, & be satisfyed: and prayse the name of the Lorde your God, that so maruelously hath dealte with you. And my people shall neuer be confounded any more.
2:27Ye shall well knowe, that I am in the myddest of Israell, and that I am youre God: yee, and that there is none other, and my people shall no more be brought to confusion.
2:28After this, will I poure out my sprete vpon all flesh: and your sonnes and your daughters shall prophecy: your olde men shall dreame dreames, and youre yonge men shall se visyons,
2:29yee, in those dayes I will poure out my sprete vpon seruauntes and maydens.
2:30I will shewe wonders in heauen aboue and tokens in the earth beneth: bloude and fyre, and the vapoure of smoke.
2:31The sunne shalbe turned into darckenes, and the mone into bloude: before the greate & notable daye of the Lord come.
2:32And the tyme shall come, that whosoeuer calleth on the name of the Lorde, shalbe saued. For vpon the mounte Syon and at Ierusalem, there shalbe a saluacyon, lyke as the Lorde hath promysed: yee, and amonge the other remnaunt, whom the Lorde shall call.
