| 5:1 | Heare ye this word which I take vp against you, euen a lamentation, O house of Israel. |
| 5:2 | The virgin of Israel is fallen, she shall no more rise: she is forsaken vpon her land, there is none to raise her vp. |
| 5:3 | For thus saith the Lord God, The citie that went out by a thousand, shall leaue an hundred, and that which went foorth by an hundred, shall leaue ten to the house of Israel. |
| 5:4 | For thus saith the Lord vnto the house of Israel, Seeke ye mee, and ye shall liue. |
| 5:5 | But seeke not Bethel, nor enter into Gilgal and passe not to Beer-sheba: for Gilgal shall surely goe into captiuitie, and Bethel shal come to nought. |
| 5:6 | Seeke the Lord, and ye shall liue, lest hee breake out like fire in the house of Ioseph and deuoure it, and there be none to quench it in Bethel, |
| 5:7 | Ye who turne iudgment to wormwood, and leaue off righteousnesse in the earth: |
| 5:8 | Seeke him that maketh the seuen starres and Orion, and turneth the shadow of death into the morning, and maketh the day darke with night: that calleth for the waters of the Sea, and powreth them out vpon the face of the earth: the Lord is his Name. |
| 5:9 | That strengtheneth the spoiled against the strong: so that the spoiled shall come against the fortresse. |
| 5:10 | They hate him that rebuketh in the gate: and they abhorre him that speaketh vprightly. |
| 5:11 | Forasmuch therfore as your treading is vpon the poore, and ye take from him burdens of wheate, ye haue built houses of hewen stone, but ye shall not dwell in them: yee haue planted pleasant vineyards, but ye shall not drinke wine of them. |
| 5:12 | For I know your manifold transgressions, and your mighty sinnes: they afflict the iust, they take a bribe, and they turne aside the poore in the gate from their right. |
| 5:13 | Therefore the prudent shall keepe silence in that time, for it is an euill time. |
| 5:14 | Seeke good and not euill, that ye may liue: and so the Lord, the God of hosts shall be with you, as yee haue spoken. |
| 5:15 | Hate the euill, and loue the good, and establish iudgement in the gate: it may be that the Lord God of hostes will bee gracious vnto the remnant of Ioseph. |
| 5:16 | Therefore the Lord, the God of hostes, the Lord saith thus: Wailing shall be in all streets, and they shall say in all the high wayes, Alas, Alas: and they shall call the husbandman to mourning, and such as are skilful of lamentation, to wailing. |
| 5:17 | And in all vineyards shall be wailing: for I will passe through thee, saith the Lord. |
| 5:18 | Woe vnto you that desire the day of the Lord: to what ende is it for you? the day of the Lord is darknes and not light. |
| 5:19 | As if a man did flee from a lyon, and a beare met him, or went into the house, and leaned his hand on the wall, and a serpent bit him. |
| 5:20 | Shall not the day of the Lord be darkenes, and not light? euen very darke, and no brightnesse in it? |
| 5:21 | I hate, I despise your feast dayes, and I will not smell in your solemne assemblies. |
| 5:22 | Though ye offer me burnt offerings, and your meat offerings, I will not accept them: neither will I regard the peace offerings of your fat beasts. |
| 5:23 | Take thou away from mee the noise of thy songs: for I will not heare the melodie of thy violes. |
| 5:24 | But let iudgement run downe as waters, and righteousnesse as a mightie streame. |
| 5:25 | Haue yee offered vnto mee sacrifices and offerings in the wildernesse fourtie yeeres, O house of Israel? |
| 5:26 | But yee haue borne the tabernacle of your Moloch, and Chiun your images, the starre of your god, which ye made to your selues. |
| 5:27 | Therefore wil I cause you to go into captiuitie beyond Damascus, saith the Lord, whose Name is the God of hostes. |
| 5:1 | Heare this worde (o ye house of Israel) and why? I must make this mone for you: |
| 5:2 | The vyrgin Israel shall fall, & neuer ryse vp agayne: she shall be cast downe vpon hir owne grounde, and no man shal helpe hir vp. |
| 5:3 | For thus sayeth ye LORDE God: Where as there dwelt a M. in one cite, there shalbe left scarce an C. therin: and where yere dwelt an C. there shal scarce ten be left for the house off Israel. |
| 5:4 | Neuertheles, thus sayeth the LORDE vnto ye house of Israel: Seke after me, ad ye shal lyue, |
| 5:5 | but seke not after Bethel. Come not at Galgal, and go not to Bersaba: for Galgal shall be caried awaye captyue, and Bethel shal come to naught. |
| 5:6 | Seke the LORDE, yt ye maye lyue: lest the house of Ioseph be brent with fyre and cosumed, and lest there be none to quench Bethel. |
| 5:7 | Ye turne the lawe to wormwod, and cast downe rightuousnes vnto the grounde. |
| 5:8 | The LORDE maketh the vij. starres and the Oryons, he turneth the night in to daye, and off the daye he maketh darcknesse. He calleth ye waters of the see, and poureth them out vpon the playne grounde: the LORDE is his name. |
| 5:9 | He rayseth destruccion vpon the mightie people, & bryngeth downe the stronge holde: |
| 5:10 | but they owe him euel will, yt reproueth them openly: and who so telleth the the playne treuth, they abhorre him. |
| 5:11 | For so moch the as ye oppresse ye poore, and robbe him of his best sustenaunce: therfore, where as ye haue buylded houses off square stone, ye shall not dwell in them. Maruelos pleasaunt vynyardes shall ye plante, but the wyne of the shal ye not drynke: and why? |
| 5:12 | as for the multitude of youre wickednesses and youre stoute synnes, I knowe them right well. Enemies are ye off the rightuous, ye take rewardes, ye oppresse the poore in iudgment. |
| 5:13 | Therfore the wyse must now be fayne to holde his tuge, so wicked a tyme is it. |
| 5:14 | Seke after the thinge that is good, & not euell, so shall ye lyue: yee the LORDE God off hoostes shal be with you, acordinge to youre owne desyre. |
| 5:15 | Hate the euell, and loue the good: set vp right agayne in the porte: & (no doute) the LORDE God of hoostes shall be mercifull vnto the remnaunt of Ioseph. |
| 5:16 | Yff no (sayeth the LORDE God, the God of hoostes) there shal be mourninge in all stretes, yee they shal saye i euery strete: alas, alas. They shall call the housbonde man to lamentacio, and soch as can mourne, to mournynge. |
| 5:17 | In all vynyardes there shal be heuynesse, for I will come amonge you, sayeth the LORDE. |
| 5:18 | Wo be vnto them that desyre the daye off ye LORDE: Wherfore wolde ye haue it? As for that daye of the LORDE, it shalbe darcke ad not cleare: |
| 5:19 | Yee like as when a ma runeth fro a lyon, and a Beer meteth with him: or, whe he commeth into the house, and leeneth his honde vpon the wall, a serpent byteth him. |
| 5:20 | Shall not the daye of the LORDE be darcke, and not cleare? shal it not be cloudy, and no shyne in it? |
| 5:21 | I hate and abhorre youre holy dayes, ad where as ye cense me when ye come together I will not accepte it. |
| 5:22 | And though ye offre me brentofferinges and meatofferinges, yet haue I no pleasure therin: As for youre fat thankofferynges, I wil not loke vpon them. |
| 5:23 | Awaye with that noyse of thy songes, I wil not heare thy playes of musick: |
| 5:24 | but se that equyte flowe as the water, and rightuousnesse as a mightie streame. |
| 5:25 | O ye house of Israel, gaue ye me offeringes and sacrifices those xl. yeares longe in the wyldernesse? |
| 5:26 | Yet haue ye set vp tabernacles to youre Moloch, and ymages of youre Idols, Yee ad the starre of youre god Rempha, figures which ye made to worshipe them. |
| 5:27 | Therfore wil I cause you be caried awaye beyonde Damascus, sayeth the LORDE, whose name is the God off hoostes. |
| 5:1 | Here ye this word, for Y reise on you a weilyng. |
| 5:2 | The hous of Israel felle doun, he schal not put to, that it rise ayen; the virgyn of Israel is cast doun in to hir lond, noon is that schal reise hir. |
| 5:3 | For the Lord God seith these thingis, The citee of which a thousynde wenten out, an hundrid schulen be left ther ynne; and of which an hundrid wenten out, ten schulen be left ther ynne, in the hous of Israel. |
| 5:4 | For the Lord seith these thingis to the hous of Israel, Seke ye me, and ye schulen lyue; |
| 5:5 | and nyle ye seke Bethel, and nyle ye entre in to Galgala, and ye schulen not passe to Bersabee; for whi Galgal schal be led caitif, and Bethel schal be vnprofitable. |
| 5:6 | Seke ye the Lord, and lyue ye, lest perauenture the hous of Joseph be brent as fier; and it schal deuoure Bethel, and there schal not be, that schal quenche. |
| 5:7 | Whiche conuerten doom in to wermod, and forsaken riytwisnesse in the lond, |
| 5:8 | and forsaken hym that makith Arture and Orion, and hym that turneth derknessis in to the morewtid, and him that chaungith dai in to niyt; which clepith watris of the see, and heldith out hem on the face of erthe; the Lord is name of hym. |
| 5:9 | Which scorneth distriyng on the stronge, and bringith robbyng on the myyti. |
| 5:10 | Thei hatiden a man repreuynge in the yate, and thei wlatiden a man spekynge perfitli. |
| 5:11 | Therfor for that that ye robbiden a pore man, and token fro hym the chosun prey, ye schulen bilde housis with square stoon, and ye schulen not dwelle in hem; ye schulen plaunte moost louyd vyneyerdis, and ye schulen not drynke the wyn of hem. |
| 5:12 | For Y knew youre grete trespassis many, and youre stronge synnes; enemyes of `the riytwis man, takynge yifte, and berynge doun pore men in the yate. |
| 5:13 | Therfor a prudent man schal be stille in that time, for the time is yuel. |
| 5:14 | Seke ye good, and not yuel, that ye lyue, and the Lord God of oostis schal be with you, as ye seiden. |
| 5:15 | Hate ye yuel, and loue ye good, and ordeyne ye in the gate doom; if perauenture the Lord God of oostis haue merci on the remenauntis of Joseph. |
| 5:16 | Therfor the Lord God of oostis, hauynge lordschipe, seith these thingis, Weilyng schal be in alle stretis, and in alle thingis that ben withoutforth it schal be seid, Wo! wo! and thei schulen clepe an erthe tilier to mourenyng, and hem that kunnen weile, to weilyng. |
| 5:17 | And weilyng schal be in alle weies, for Y schal passe forth in the myddil of `the see, seith the Lord. |
| 5:18 | Wo to hem that desiren the dai of the Lord; wher to desiren ye it to you? This dai of the Lord schal be derknessis, and not liyt. |
| 5:19 | As if a man renne fro the face of a lioun, and a bere renne to hym; and he entre in to the hous, and lene with his hond on the wal, and a serpent dwellynge in schadewe bite hym. |
| 5:20 | Whether the dai of the Lord schal not be derknessis, and not liyt; and myist, and not schynyng ther ynne? |
| 5:21 | Y hatide and castide awei youre feeste daies, and Y schal not take the odour of youre cumpenyes. |
| 5:22 | That if ye offren to me youre brent sacrifices, and yiftis, Y schal not resseyue, and Y schal not biholde avowis of youre fatte thingis. |
| 5:23 | Do thou awei fro me the noise of thi songis, and Y schal not here the songis of thin harpe. |
| 5:24 | And doom schal be schewid as watir, and riytfulnesse as a strong streem. |
| 5:25 | Whether ye, the hous of Israel, offriden to me sacrifices for enemyes to be ouercomun, and sacrifice in desert fourti yeeris? |
| 5:26 | And ye han bore tabernaclis to Moloch, youre god, and ymage of youre idols, the sterre of youre god, which ye maden to you. |
| 5:27 | And Y schal make you for to passe ouer Damask, seide the Lord; God of oostis is the name of him. |
