| 5:1 | Heare thys worde, O ye house of Israel, & why? I must make thys mone for you. |
| 5:2 | The vyrgyn Israel shall fall, & neuer ryse vp agayne: she shalbe cast downe vpon her awne grounde, and no man shall helpe her vp. |
| 5:3 | For thus sayeth the Lorde God: where as there dwelt a .M. in one cytie, there shalbe left scarce an hundred therin: & where there dwelt an .C. there, shall scarce ten be left in the house of Israel. |
| 5:4 | Neuertheles, thus sayth the Lorde vnto the house of Israell: Seke after me, and ye shall lyue, |
| 5:5 | but seke not after Bethel. Come not at Gilgal, and go not to Bersaba: for Gilgal shalbe caryed awaye captyue, and Bethel shall come to naught. |
| 5:6 | Seke the Lorde, that ye maye lyue: lest the house of Ioseph be brent with fyre and consumed & lest there be none to quenche Bethell. |
| 5:7 | Ye turne the lawe to wormwod, & cast downe ryghteousnes vnto the grounde. |
| 5:8 | Ye forsake the Lord that maketh the .vij. starres & the Orions, that turneth the nyght into daye, and of the daye he maketh darcknesse. He calleth the waters of the see, and poureth them out vpon the playne grounde: the Lorde is hys name. |
| 5:9 | He rayseth destruccyon vpon the myghtye people, & bringeth downe the stronge holde. |
| 5:10 | But they owe him euell will, that reproueth them openly: and who so telleth them the playne trueth, they abhorre hym. |
| 5:11 | For so moche then as ye oppresse the poore, and robbe him of his best sustenaunce: therfore, where as ye haue buylded houses of square stone, ye shall not dwell in them. Maruelous pleasaunt vyneyardes shall ye plante, but the wyne of them shall ye not drincke: & why? |
| 5:12 | as for the multitude of youre wyckednesses and youre stoute synnes, I knowe them ryght well. Enemyes are ye of the ryghteous, ye take rewardes, ye oppresse the poore in iudgement. |
| 5:13 | Therfore, the wyse must nowe be fayne to holde his tunge, so wycked a tyme is it. |
| 5:14 | Seke after the thinge that is good, & not euell, so shall ye lyue: yee, the Lorde God of hoostes shalbe with you, accordinge to your awne desyre. |
| 5:15 | Hate the euell, and loue the good: set vp ryght agayne in the porte: and (no doute) the Lorde God of Hoostes shalbe mercyfull vnto the remnaunt of Ioseph. |
| 5:16 | If no (sayeth the Lorde God, the God of hostes) there shall be mournynge in all stretes, yee, they shall saye in euery strete: alas, alas. They shall call the housbandman to lamentacyon, and soch as can mourne to mournynge. |
| 5:17 | In all vyneyardes there shall be heuynesse, for I will come amonge you, sayeth the Lorde. |
| 5:18 | Wo be vnto them that desyre the daye of the Lorde. Wherfore wolde ye haue it? As for the daye of the Lorde, it shalbe darcke and not cleare. |
| 5:19 | Yee, lyke as when a man runneth from a lyon, and a Beer meteth with him: or when he commeth into the house, & leaneth his hande vpon the wall, a serpent byteth him. |
| 5:20 | Shall not the daye of the Lorde be darcke, & not cleare? shall it not be cloudy, & no shyne in it? |
| 5:21 | I hate and abhorre your holy dayes, & where as ye cense me when ye come together, I wyll not accepte it. |
| 5:22 | And though ye offre me brent offrynges and meat offrynges, yet haue I no pleasure therin. As for your fat thanckofferynges. I wyll not loke vpon them: |
| 5:23 | Awaye with that noyse of thy songes, I will not heare thy playes of musyck: |
| 5:24 | but se that equytie flowe as the water, and ryghteousnesse as a myghtye streame. |
| 5:25 | O ye house of Israel, gaue ye me offrynges and sacrifyces those fourty yeares longe in the wyldernes? |
| 5:26 | yet haue ye set vp tabernacles to your Moloch, and ymages of your Idols, yee, and the starre of your God Rempha, fygures which ye made to worshyppe them. |
| 5:27 | Therfore wyll I cause you to be caryed awaye beyonde Damascus, sayeth the Lord, whose name is the God of Hostes. |
| 5:1 | Here ye this word, for Y reise on you a weilyng. |
| 5:2 | The hous of Israel felle doun, he schal not put to, that it rise ayen; the virgyn of Israel is cast doun in to hir lond, noon is that schal reise hir. |
| 5:3 | For the Lord God seith these thingis, The citee of which a thousynde wenten out, an hundrid schulen be left ther ynne; and of which an hundrid wenten out, ten schulen be left ther ynne, in the hous of Israel. |
| 5:4 | For the Lord seith these thingis to the hous of Israel, Seke ye me, and ye schulen lyue; |
| 5:5 | and nyle ye seke Bethel, and nyle ye entre in to Galgala, and ye schulen not passe to Bersabee; for whi Galgal schal be led caitif, and Bethel schal be vnprofitable. |
| 5:6 | Seke ye the Lord, and lyue ye, lest perauenture the hous of Joseph be brent as fier; and it schal deuoure Bethel, and there schal not be, that schal quenche. |
| 5:7 | Whiche conuerten doom in to wermod, and forsaken riytwisnesse in the lond, |
| 5:8 | and forsaken hym that makith Arture and Orion, and hym that turneth derknessis in to the morewtid, and him that chaungith dai in to niyt; which clepith watris of the see, and heldith out hem on the face of erthe; the Lord is name of hym. |
| 5:9 | Which scorneth distriyng on the stronge, and bringith robbyng on the myyti. |
| 5:10 | Thei hatiden a man repreuynge in the yate, and thei wlatiden a man spekynge perfitli. |
| 5:11 | Therfor for that that ye robbiden a pore man, and token fro hym the chosun prey, ye schulen bilde housis with square stoon, and ye schulen not dwelle in hem; ye schulen plaunte moost louyd vyneyerdis, and ye schulen not drynke the wyn of hem. |
| 5:12 | For Y knew youre grete trespassis many, and youre stronge synnes; enemyes of `the riytwis man, takynge yifte, and berynge doun pore men in the yate. |
| 5:13 | Therfor a prudent man schal be stille in that time, for the time is yuel. |
| 5:14 | Seke ye good, and not yuel, that ye lyue, and the Lord God of oostis schal be with you, as ye seiden. |
| 5:15 | Hate ye yuel, and loue ye good, and ordeyne ye in the gate doom; if perauenture the Lord God of oostis haue merci on the remenauntis of Joseph. |
| 5:16 | Therfor the Lord God of oostis, hauynge lordschipe, seith these thingis, Weilyng schal be in alle stretis, and in alle thingis that ben withoutforth it schal be seid, Wo! wo! and thei schulen clepe an erthe tilier to mourenyng, and hem that kunnen weile, to weilyng. |
| 5:17 | And weilyng schal be in alle weies, for Y schal passe forth in the myddil of `the see, seith the Lord. |
| 5:18 | Wo to hem that desiren the dai of the Lord; wher to desiren ye it to you? This dai of the Lord schal be derknessis, and not liyt. |
| 5:19 | As if a man renne fro the face of a lioun, and a bere renne to hym; and he entre in to the hous, and lene with his hond on the wal, and a serpent dwellynge in schadewe bite hym. |
| 5:20 | Whether the dai of the Lord schal not be derknessis, and not liyt; and myist, and not schynyng ther ynne? |
| 5:21 | Y hatide and castide awei youre feeste daies, and Y schal not take the odour of youre cumpenyes. |
| 5:22 | That if ye offren to me youre brent sacrifices, and yiftis, Y schal not resseyue, and Y schal not biholde avowis of youre fatte thingis. |
| 5:23 | Do thou awei fro me the noise of thi songis, and Y schal not here the songis of thin harpe. |
| 5:24 | And doom schal be schewid as watir, and riytfulnesse as a strong streem. |
| 5:25 | Whether ye, the hous of Israel, offriden to me sacrifices for enemyes to be ouercomun, and sacrifice in desert fourti yeeris? |
| 5:26 | And ye han bore tabernaclis to Moloch, youre god, and ymage of youre idols, the sterre of youre god, which ye maden to you. |
| 5:27 | And Y schal make you for to passe ouer Damask, seide the Lord; God of oostis is the name of him. |
