Amos - Chapter: 6

>
6:1Wo `to' those secure in Zion, And those confident in the mount of Samaria, The marked of the chief of the nations, And come to them have the house of Israel.
6:2Pass ye over `to' Calneh and see, And go thence `to' Hamath the great, And go down `to' Gath of the Philistines, Are `they' better than these kingdoms? Greater `is' their border than your border?
6:3Who are putting away the day of evil, And ye bring nigh the seat of violence,
6:4Who are lying down on beds of ivory, And are spread out on their couches, And are eating lambs from the flock, And calves from the midst of the stall,
6:5Who are taking part according to the psaltery, Like David they invented for themselves instruments of music;
6:6Who are drinking with bowls of wine, And `with' chief perfumes anoint `themselves', And have not been pained for the breach of Joseph.
6:7Therefore now they remove at the head of the captives, And turned aside is the mourning-feast of stretched-out ones.
6:8Sworn hath the Lord Jehovah by Himself, An affirmation of Jehovah, God of Hosts: I am abominating the excellency of Jacob, And his high places I have hated, And I have delivered up the city and its fulness.
6:9And if there are left ten persons in one house, It hath come to pass -- that they have died.
6:10And lifted him up hath his loved one, even his burner, To bring forth the bones from the house, And he said to him who `is' in the sides of the house, `Is there yet with thee?' And he said, `None,' then he said, `Hush! Save to make mention of the name of Jehovah.'
6:11For lo, Jehovah is commanding, And He hath smitten the great house `with' breaches, And the little house `with' clefts.
6:12Do horses run on a rock? Doth one plough `it' with oxen? For ye have turned to gall judgment, And the fruit of righteousness to wormwood.
6:13O ye who are rejoicing at nothing, Who are saying, `Have we not by our strength taken to ourselves horns?'
6:14Surely, lo, I am raising against you a nation, O house of Israel, An affirmation of Jehovah, God of Hosts, And they have oppressed you from the coming in to Hamath, Unto the stream of the desert.

6:1Woe to them that are at ease in Zion, and trust in the mountain of Samaria, which are named chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel came!
6:2Pass ye unto Calneh, and see; and from thence go ye to Hamath the great: then go down to Gath of the Philistines: be they better than these kingdoms? or their border greater than your border?
6:3Ye that put far away the evil day, and cause the seat of violence to come near;
6:4That lie upon beds of ivory, and stretch themselves upon their couches, and eat the lambs out of the flock, and the calves out of the midst of the stall;
6:5That chant to the sound of the viol, and invent to themselves instruments of musick, like David;
6:6That drink wine in bowls, and anoint themselves with the chief ointments: but they are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph.
6:7Therefore now shall they go captive with the first that go captive, and the banquet of them that stretched themselves shall be removed.
6:8The Lord GOD hath sworn by himself, saith the LORD the God of hosts, I abhor the excellency of Jacob, and hate his palaces: therefore will I deliver up the city with all that is therein.
6:9And it shall come to pass, if there remain ten men in one house, that they shall die.
6:10And a man's uncle shall take him up, and he that burneth him, to bring out the bones out of the house, and shall say unto him that is by the sides of the house, Is there yet any with thee? and he shall say, No. Then shall he say, Hold thy tongue: for we may not make mention of the name of the LORD.
6:11For, behold, the LORD commandeth, and he will smite the great house with breaches, and the little house with clefts.
6:12Shall horses run upon the rock? will one plow there with oxen? for ye have turned judgment into gall, and the fruit of righteousness into hemlock:
6:13Ye which rejoice in a thing of nought, which say, Have we not taken to us horns by our own strength?
6:14But, behold, I will raise up against you a nation, O house of Israel, saith the LORD the God of hosts; and they shall afflict you from the entering in of Hemath unto the river of the wilderness.

6:1Woe to those at ease in Zion, and those trusting in the mountain of Samaria, those noted as the leader of the nations! And the house of Israel came to them.
6:2Cross to Calneh and see; and from there go to the great Hamath; then go down to Gath of the Philistines. Are they better than these kingdoms, or their border than your border?
6:3You who put the evil day far away, and cause the seat of violence to come near,
6:4who lie on beds of ivory and stretch themselves on their couches; and those eating the lambs from the flock, and bull calves from the midst of the stall;
6:5those chanting with the mouth of the harp; they invent instruments of song for themselves like David;
6:6who drink bowls of wine, and they anoint with the best of oils; but they are not grieved for the breaking of Joseph!
6:7So now they shall go into exile with the first of the exiles, and the feast of those who stretch themselves shall cease.
6:8The Lord Jehovah has sworn by Himself, declares Jehovah, the God of hosts: I abhor the pride of Jacob, and hate his palaces; and I will shut up the city and its fullness.
6:9And it shall be, if ten men remain in one house, then they shall die.
6:10And his uncle shall lift him up, and he who burns him, to bring out the bones from the house; and he shall say to that one left in the recesses of the house, Are any still with you? And he shall say, No. Then he shall say, Hush! For not one shall mention the name of Jehovah.
6:11For, behold, Jehovah commands, and He will strike the great house into pieces, and the little house into cracks.
6:12Shall horses run on the rock? Or will one plow there with oxen? For you have turned justice into poison, and the fruit of righteousness into wormwood,
6:13those rejoicing for nothing, those saying, Have we not taken horns to ourselves by our own strength?
6:14For, behold, I will raise a nation up against you, O house of Israel, declares Jehovah, the God of hosts. And they shall oppress you from the entrance of Hamath to the torrent of the Arabah.
