Zechariah - Chapter: 1

>
1:1In the eighth month, in the second year of Darius, hath a word of Jehovah been unto Zechariah, son of Berechiah, son of Iddo, the prophet, saying:
1:2`Jehovah was wroth against your fathers -- wrath!
1:3And thou hast said unto them, Thus said Jehovah of Hosts, turn back unto Me, An affirmation of Jehovah of Hosts, And I turn back unto you, said Jehovah of Hosts.
1:4Ye shall not be as your fathers, To whom the former prophets called, saying: Thus said Jehovah of Hosts, Turn back I pray you, From your evil ways and from your evil doings, And they did not hearken, Nor attend to Me -- an affirmation of Jehovah.
1:5Your fathers -- where `are' they? And the prophets -- to the age do they live?
1:6Only, My words, and My statutes, That I commanded My servants the prophets, Have they not overtaken your fathers, And they turn back and say: As Jehovah of Hosts designed to do to us, According to our ways, and according to our doings, So He hath done to us?'
1:7On the twenty and fourth day of the eleventh month, (it `is' the month of Sebat,) in the second year of Darius, hath a word of Jehovah been unto Zechariah, son of Berechiah, son of Iddo, the prophet, saying:
1:8I have seen by night, and lo, one riding on a red horse, and he is standing between the myrtles that `are' in the shade, and behind him `are' horses, red, bay, and white.
1:9And I say, `What `are' these, my lord?' And the messenger who is speaking with me saith unto me, `I -- I do shew thee what these `are'.'
1:10And the one who is standing between the myrtles doth answer and say, `These `are' they whom Jehovah hath sent to walk up and down in the land.'
1:11And they answer the messenger of Jehovah who is standing between the myrtles, and say, `We have walked up and down in the land, and lo, all the land is sitting still, and at rest.'
1:12And the messenger of Jehovah answereth and saith, `Jehovah of Hosts! till when dost Thou not pity Jerusalem, and the cities of Judah, that Thou hast abhorred these seventy years?'
1:13And Jehovah answereth the messenger, who is speaking with me, good words, comfortable words.
1:14And the messenger who is speaking with me, saith unto me, `Call, saying: Thus said Jehovah of Hosts: I have been zealous for Jerusalem, and for Zion `with' great zeal.
1:15And `with' great wrath I am wroth against the nations who are at ease, For I was a little wroth, and they assisted -- for evil.
1:16Therefore, thus said Jehovah: I have turned to Jerusalem with mercies, My house is built in it, An affirmation of Jehovah of Hosts, And a line is stretched over Jerusalem.
1:17Again call, saying: Thus said Jehovah of Hosts, Again do my cities overflow from good, And Jehovah hath again comforted Zion, And He hath fixed again on Jerusalem.'
1:18And I lift up mine eyes, and look, and lo, four horns.
1:19And I say unto the messenger who is speaking with me, `What `are' these?' And he saith unto me, `These `are' the horns that have scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem.'
1:20And Jehovah doth shew me four artizans.
1:21And I say, `What `are' these coming in to do?' And He speaketh, saying: `These `are' the horns that have scattered Judah, so that no one hath lifted up his head, and these come in to trouble them, to cast down the horns of the nations who are lifting up a horn against the land of Judah -- to scatter it.'

1:1In the eighth month, in the second year of Darius, came the word of the LORD unto Zechariah, the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo the prophet, saying,
1:2The LORD hath been sore displeased with your fathers.
1:3Therefore say thou unto them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Turn ye unto me, saith the LORD of hosts, and I will turn unto you, saith the LORD of hosts.
1:4Be ye not as your fathers, unto whom the former prophets have cried, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Turn ye now from your evil ways, and from your evil doings: but they did not hear, nor hearken unto me, saith the LORD.
1:5Your fathers, where are they? and the prophets, do they live for ever?
1:6But my words and my statutes, which I commanded my servants the prophets, did they not take hold of your fathers? and they returned and said, Like as the LORD of hosts thought to do unto us, according to our ways, and according to our doings, so hath he dealt with us.
1:7Upon the four and twentieth day of the eleventh month, which is the month Sebat, in the second year of Darius, came the word of the LORD unto Zechariah, the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo the prophet, saying,
1:8I saw by night, and behold a man riding upon a red horse, and he stood among the myrtle trees that were in the bottom; and behind him were there red horses, speckled, and white.
1:9Then said I, O my lord, what are these? And the angel that talked with me said unto me, I will shew thee what these be.
1:10And the man that stood among the myrtle trees answered and said, These are they whom the LORD hath sent to walk to and fro through the earth.
1:11And they answered the angel of the LORD that stood among the myrtle trees, and said, We have walked to and fro through the earth, and, behold, all the earth sitteth still, and is at rest.
1:12Then the angel of the LORD answered and said, O LORD of hosts, how long wilt thou not have mercy on Jerusalem and on the cities of Judah, against which thou hast had indignation these threescore and ten years?
1:13And the LORD answered the angel that talked with me with good words and comfortable words.
1:14So the angel that communed with me said unto me, Cry thou, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; I am jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion with a great jealousy.
1:15And I am very sore displeased with the heathen that are at ease: for I was but a little displeased, and they helped forward the affliction.
1:16Therefore thus saith the LORD; I am returned to Jerusalem with mercies: my house shall be built in it, saith the LORD of hosts, and a line shall be stretched forth upon Jerusalem.
1:17Cry yet, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; My cities through prosperity shall yet be spread abroad; and the LORD shall yet comfort Zion, and shall yet choose Jerusalem.
1:18Then lifted I up mine eyes, and saw, and behold four horns.
1:19And I said unto the angel that talked with me, What be these? And he answered me, These are the horns which have scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem.
1:20And the LORD shewed me four carpenters.
1:21Then said I, What come these to do? And he spake, saying, These are the horns which have scattered Judah, so that no man did lift up his head: but these are come to fray them, to cast out the horns of the Gentiles, which lifted up their horn over the land of Judah to scatter it.

1:1In the eighth month, in the second year of Darius, the word of Jehovah came to Zechariah, the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo the prophet, saying,
1:2Jehovah has been very angry with your fathers.
1:3And you say to them, So says Jehovah of hosts: Turn to Me, says Jehovah of hosts, and I will turn to you, says Jehovah of hosts.
1:4Do not be as your fathers, to whom the former prophets have proclaimed to them, saying, So says Jehovah of hosts: Turn now from your evil ways and your evil doings. But they did not hear or give heed to Me, says Jehovah.
1:5Your fathers, where are they? And the prophets, do they live forever?
1:6But My words and My statutes which I commanded My servants the prophets, did they not overtake your fathers? And they returned and said, As Jehovah of hosts purposes to do to us, according to our ways and according to our deeds, so He has done with us.
1:7On the twenty-fourth day of the eleventh month, it is the month Shebat, in the second year of Darius, the word of Jehovah was to Zechariah, the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo the prophet, saying,
1:8I saw at night. And, behold! A Man riding on a red horse. And He stood among the myrtle trees in the ravine. And behind Him were red, sorrel, and white horses.
1:9Then I said, My lord, what are these? And the angel who was speaking with me said to me, I will show you what these are .
1:10And the Man who stood among the myrtle trees answered and said, These are those whom Jehovah has sent to walk to and fro through the earth.
1:11And they answered the Angel of Jehovah who stood among the myrtle trees, and said, We have walked to and fro through the earth, and, behold, all the earth sits still and is at peace.
1:12And the Angel of Jehovah answered and said, O Jehovah of hosts, until when will You not have pity on Jerusalem, and on the cities of Judah, against which You have cursed these seventy years?
1:13And Jehovah answered the angel who was talking with me with good words, comforting words.
1:14So the angel who was talking with me said to me, Cry out, saying, So says Jehovah of hosts: I am jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion, with a great jealousy.
1:15And with great anger I am angry at the nations at ease; in that I was but a little angry, and they gave help for evil.
1:16So Jehovah says this: I have returned to Jerusalem with compassions; My house shall be built in it, says Jehovah of hosts, and a line shall be stretched over Jerusalem.
1:17Cry out again, saying, So says Jehovah of hosts: My cities shall again overflow with goodness, and Jehovah shall yet comfort Zion, and shall yet choose Jerusalem.
1:18Then I lifted up my eyes and looked, and, behold, four horns!
1:19And I said to the angel who was talking with me, What are these? And he answered me, These are the horns that have scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem.
1:20And Jehovah showed me four craftsmen.
1:21And I said, What are these coming to do? And He spoke, saying, These are the horns which have scattered Judah, so that no man lifts up his head. But these have come to terrify them, to throw down the horns of the nations who lifted up their horn over the land of Judah, to scatter it.
