| 1:17 | So all the generations from Abraham to Dauid, are fourteene generations: and from Dauid vntill the carying away into Babylon, are foureteene generations: and from the carying away into Babylon vnto Christ, are fourteene generations. |
| 1:18 | Now the birth of Iesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Ioseph (before they came together) shee was found with childe of the holy Ghost. |
| 1:19 | Then Ioseph her husband being a iust man, and not willing to make her a publique example, was minded to put her away priuily. |
| 1:20 | But while hee thought on these things, behold, the Angel of the Lord appeared vnto him in a dreame, saying, Ioseph thou sonne of Dauid, feare not to take vnto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceiued in her, is of the holy Ghost. |
| 1:21 | And she shall bring forth a sonne, and thou shalt call his Name Iesus: for hee shall saue his people from their sinnes. |
| 1:22 | (Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the Prophet, saying, |
| 1:23 | Behold, a Uirgin shall be with childe, and shall bring foorth a sonne, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted, is, God with vs.) |
| 1:24 | Then Ioseph, being raised from sleepe, did as the Angel of the Lord had bidden him, & tooke vnto him his wife: |
| 1:25 | And knewe her not, till shee had brought forth her first borne sonne, and he called his name Iesus. |

| 1:18 | The byrth of Christ was on thys wyse: When his mother Mary was maried to Ioseph before they came together, she was foude with chylde by ye holy goost, |
| 1:19 | But Ioseph her hussbande was a perfect man, and wolde not bringe her to shame, but was mynded to put her awaie secretely. |
| 1:20 | Neuertheles whyle he thus thought, beholde, the angell of the LORDE appered vnto him in a dreame, saynge: Ioseph thou sonne of Dauid, feare not to take vnto the Mary thy wyfe. For that which is coceaued in her, is of ye holy goost. |
| 1:21 | She shall brynge forth a sonne, and thou shalt call his name Iesus. For he shall saue his people from their synnes. |
| 1:22 | All this was done, yt the thinge might, be fulfilled, which was spoken of the LORDE by the Prophet, saynge: |
| 1:23 | Beholde, a mayde shall be with chylde, and shall brynge forth a sonne, and they shall call his name Emanuel, which is by interpretacion, God wt vs. |
| 1:24 | Now whan Ioseph awoke out of slepe he did as the angell of ye LORDE bade hym, and toke his wyfe vnto hym, |
| 1:25 | and knewe her not, tyll she had brought forth hir fyrst borne sonne, and called his name Iesus. |

| 1:18 | But the generacioun of Crist was thus. Whanne Marie, the modir of Jhesu, was spousid to Joseph, bifore thei camen togidere, she was foundun hauynge of the Hooli Goost in the wombe. |
| 1:19 | And Joseph, hir hosebonde, for he was riytful, and wolde not puplische hir, he wolde priueli haue left hir. |
| 1:20 | But while he thouyte thes thingis, lo! the aungel of the Lord apperide `in sleep to hym, and seide, Joseph, the sone of Dauid, nyle thou drede to take Marie, thi wijf; for that thing that is borun in hir is of the Hooli Goost. |
| 1:21 | And she shal bere a sone, and thou shalt clepe his name Jhesus; for he schal make his puple saaf fro her synnes. |
| 1:22 | For al this thing was don, that it schulde be fulfillid, that was seid of the Lord bi a prophete, seiynge, Lo! |
| 1:23 | a virgyn shal haue in wombe, and she schal bere a sone, and thei schulen clepe his name Emanuel, that is to seie, God with vs. |
| 1:24 | And Joseph roos fro sleepe, and dide as the aungel of the Lord comaundide hym, and took Marie, his wijf; |
| 1:25 | and he knew her not, til she hadde borun her firste bigete sone, and clepide his name Jhesus. |
