Matthew - Chapter: 3

>
3:1In those dayes Iohn the Baptist came and preached in the wyldernes of Iury
3:2saying: Repent the kingdome of heauen is at hande.
3:3This is he of whom it is spoken by the prophete Esaye which sayeth: The voice of a cryer in wildernes prepare the Lordes way and make his pathes, strayt.
3:4This Ihon had his garmente of Camels hear & a girdel of a skinne about his loynes. His meate was locustes, & wilde honye.
3:5Then went out to him Ierusalem & all Iurye, & all the region rounde about Iordan,
3:6& were baptised of him in Iorden, confessing their sinnes.
3:7When he sawe many of the Phariseis & of the Saduces come to his baptisme, he sayd vnto them: O generacion of vipers, who hath taught you to fle from the vengaunce to come?
3:8Bringe forth therfore the frutes belonging to repentaunce.
3:9And se that ye once thinke not to saye in your selues, we haue Abraham to our father. For I say vnto you, that God is able of these stones rayse vp children vnto Abraham.
3:10Euen now is the axe put vnto the rote of the trees: so that euerye tre which bringeth not forth good fruit, is hewen doun & cast into the fire.
3:11I baptise you in water in token of repentaunce, but he that cometh after me is mightyer then I, whose shues I am not worthy to beare. He shal baptise you with the holy ghost and with fyre:
3:12which hath also his fan in hys hande, and will purge his floure gather the wheat into his garner, & wyl burne the chaffe with vnquenciable fyre.
3:13Then came Iesus from Galylee to Iordane, vnto Ihon to be baptysed of him.
3:14But Ihon forbad him sayinge: I oughte to be baptysed of the: and commest thou to me?
3:15Iesus answered and sayd to hym: Let it be so nowe. For thus it becometh vs to fulfyll al righteousnes. Then he suffred him.
3:16And Iesus as sone as he was baptysed came straight out of the water. And lo heauen was open ouer him: and Ihon sawe the spirite of God descende like a doue, and light vpon him.
3:17And lo ther came a voice from heauen sayinge. This is my beloued sonne in whom is my delyte.

3:5Then went out to him Ierusalem and all Iudea, and all the region rounde about Iordan.
3:6And they were baptized of him in Iordan, confessing their sinnes.
3:7Now when he sawe many of the Pharises, and of the Sadduces come to his baptisme, he said vnto them, O generations of vipers, who hath forewarned you to flee from the anger to come?
3:8Bring foorth therefore fruite worthy amendment of life.
3:9And thinke not to say with your selues, We haue Abraham to our father: for I say vnto you, that God is able euen of these stones to raise vp children vnto Abraham.
3:10And now also is the axe put to the roote of the trees: therfore euery tree which bringeth not forth good fruit, is hewen downe, and cast into ye fire.
3:11In deede I baptize you with water to amendment of life, but he that commeth after me, is mightier then I, whose shoes I am not worthie to beare: hee will baptize you with the holy Ghost, and with fire.
3:12Which hath his fanne in his hand, and wil make cleane his floore, and gather his wheate into his garner, but will burne vp the chaffe with vnquenchable fire.
3:13Then came Iesus from Galile to Iordan vnto Iohn, to be baptized of him.
3:14But Iohn earnestly put him backe, saying, I haue neede to be baptized of thee, and commest thou to me?
3:15Then Iesus answering, saide to him, Let be nowe: for thus it becommeth vs to fulfill all righteousnes. So he suffered him.
3:16And Iesus when hee was baptized, came straight out of the water. And lo, the heaues were opened vnto him, and Iohn saw the Spirit of God descending like a doue, and lighting vpon him.
3:17And loe, a voyce came from heauen, saying, This is my beloued Sonne, in whome I am well pleased.

3:4And the same Iohn had his raiment of camels haire, and a leatherne girdle about his loynes, and his meate was locusts and wilde hony.
3:5Then went out to him Hierusalem, and all Iudea, and all the region round about Iordane,
3:6And were baptized of him in Iordane, confessing their sinnes.
3:7But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his Baptisme, he said vnto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
3:8Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance.
3:9And thinke not to say within your selues, Wee haue Abraham to our father: For I say vnto you, that God is able of these stones to raise vp children vnto Abraham.
3:10And now also the axe is layd vnto the root of the trees: Therefore euery tree which bringeth not foorth good fruite, is hewen downe, and cast into the fire.
3:11I indeed baptize you with water vnto repentance: but he that commeth after mee, is mightier then I, whose shooes I am not worthy to beare, hee shall baptize you with the holy Ghost, and with fire.
3:12Whose fanne is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floore, and gather his wheat into the garner: but wil burne vp the chaffe with vnquenchable fire.
3:13Then commeth Iesus from Galilee to Iordane, vnto Iohn, to be baptized of him:
3:14But Iohn forbade him, saying, I haue need to bee baptized of thee, and commest thou to me?
3:15And Iesus answering, said vnto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becommeth vs to fulfill all righteousnesse. Then he suffered him.
3:16And Iesus, when hee was baptized, went vp straightway out of the water: and loe, the heauens were opened vnto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a doue, and lighting vpon him.
3:17And loe, a voice from heauen, saying, This is my beloued Sonne, in whom I am well pleased.
