Matthew - Chapter: 3

>
3:1And in those days cometh John the Baptist, proclaiming in the wilderness of Judea,
3:2and saying, `Reform, for come nigh hath the reign of the heavens,'
3:3for this is he who was spoken of by Isaiah the prophet, saying, `A voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, straight make ye His paths.'
3:4And this John had his clothing of camel's hair, and a girdle of skin round his loins, and his nourishment was locusts and honey of the field.
3:5Then were going forth unto him Jerusalem, and all Judea, and all the region round about the Jordan,
3:6and they were baptized in the Jordan by him, confessing their sins.
3:7And having seen many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming about his baptism, he said to them, `Brood of vipers! who did shew you to flee from the coming wrath?
3:8bear, therefore, fruits worthy of the reformation,
3:9and do not think to say in yourselves, A father we have -- Abraham, for I say to you, that God is able out of these stones to raise children to Abraham,
3:10and now also, the axe unto the root of the trees is laid, every tree therefore not bearing good fruit is hewn down, and to fire is cast.
3:11`I indeed do baptize you with water to reformation, but he who after me is coming is mightier than I, of whom I am not worthy to bear the sandals, he shall baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire,
3:12whose fan `is' in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his floor, and will gather his wheat to the storehouse, but the chaff he will burn with fire unquenchable.'
3:13Then cometh Jesus from Galilee upon the Jordan, unto John to be baptized by him,
3:14but John was forbidding him, saying, `I have need by thee to be baptized -- and thou dost come unto me!'
3:15But Jesus answering said to him, `Suffer now, for thus it is becoming to us to fulfill all righteousness,' then he doth suffer him.
3:16And having been baptized, Jesus went up immediately from the water, and lo, opened to him were the heavens, and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove, and coming upon him,
3:17and lo, a voice out of the heavens, saying, `This is My Son -- the Beloved, in whom I did delight.'

3:1In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea,
3:2And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
3:3For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
3:4And the same John had his raiment of camel's hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his meat was locusts and wild honey.
3:5Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about Jordan,
3:6And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins.
3:7But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
3:8Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance:
3:9And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.
3:10And now also the ax is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
3:11I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:
3:12Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.
3:13Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.
3:14But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?
3:15And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.
3:16And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:
3:17And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

3:1Now in those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea,
3:2and saying, Repent! For the kingdom of Heaven has drawn near.
3:3For this is he spoken of by Isaiah the prophet, saying: "The voice of one crying in the wilderness: Prepare the way of the Lord! Make His paths straight!" Isa. 40:3
3:4And John himself had his clothing from hairs of a camel, and a belt of leather about his loin. And his food was locusts and wild honey.
3:5Then Jerusalem and all Judea went out to him, and all the neighborhood of the Jordan,
3:6and were baptized by him in the Jordan, confessing their sins.
3:7But seeing many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, Offspring of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
3:8Therefore, bring forth fruits worthy of repentance.
3:9And do not think to say within yourselves, We have a father, Abraham. For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones.
3:10But already the axe is even laid at the root of the trees; therefore, any tree not bringing forth good fruit is cut down and is thrown into fire.
3:11I indeed baptize you in water to repentance; but He who is coming after me is stronger than I, whose sandals I am not fit to carry. He will baptize you in the Holy Spirit and fire,
3:12whose fan is in His hand, and He will cleanse His floor and will gather His wheat into the barn. But He will burn up the chaff with fire that cannot be put out.
3:13Then Jesus arrived from Galilee to the Jordan, to John, to be baptized by him.
3:14But John restrained Him, saying, I have need to be baptized by You, and do You come to me?
3:15But answering, Jesus said to him, Allow it now, for it is becoming to us this way to fulfill all righteousness. Then he allowed Him.
3:16And having been baptized, Jesus went up immediately from the water. And, behold! The heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God coming down as a dove, and coming upon Him.
3:17And behold! A voice out of the heaven saying, This is My Son, the Beloved, in whom I have found delight. Psa. 2:7; Gen. 22:2; Isa. 42:1
