| 14:1 | At that time did Herod the tetrarch hear the fame of Jesus, |
| 14:2 | and said to his servants, `This is John the Baptist, he did rise from the dead, and because of this the mighty energies are working in him.' |
| 14:3 | For Herod having laid hold on John, did bind him, and did put him in prison, because of Herodias his brother Philip's wife, |
| 14:4 | for John was saying to him, `It is not lawful to thee to have her,' |
| 14:5 | and, willing to kill him, he feared the multitude, because as a prophet they were holding him. |
| 14:6 | But the birthday of Herod being kept, the daughter of Herodias danced in the midst, and did please Herod, |
| 14:7 | whereupon with an oath he professed to give her whatever she might ask. |
| 14:8 | And she having been instigated by her mother -- `Give me (says she) here upon a plate the head of John the Baptist; |
| 14:9 | and the king was grieved, but because of the oaths and of those reclining with him, he commanded `it' to be given; |
| 14:10 | and having sent, he beheaded John in the prison, |
| 14:11 | and his head was brought upon a plate, and was given to the damsel, and she brought `it' nigh to her mother. |
| 14:12 | And his disciples having come, took up the body, and buried it, and having come, they told Jesus, |
| 14:13 | and Jesus having heard, withdrew thence in a boat to a desolate place by himself, and the multitudes having heard did follow him on land from the cities. |
| 14:14 | And Jesus having come forth, saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion upon them, and did heal their infirm; |
| 14:15 | and evening having come, his disciples came to him, saying, `The place is desolate, and the hour hath now past, let away the multitudes that, having gone to the villages, they may buy to themselves food.' |
| 14:16 | And Jesus said to them, `They have no need to go away -- give ye them to eat.' |
| 14:17 | And they say to him, `We have not here except five loaves, and two fishes.' |
| 14:18 | And he said, `Bring ye them to me hither.' |
| 14:19 | And having commanded the multitudes to recline upon the grass, and having taken the five loaves and the two fishes, having looked up to the heaven, he did bless, and having broken, he gave the loaves to the disciples, and the disciples to the multitudes, |
| 14:20 | and they did all eat, and were filled, and they took up what was over of the broken pieces twelve hand-baskets full; |
| 14:21 | and those eating were about five thousand men, apart from women and children. |
| 14:22 | And immediately Jesus constrained his disciples to go into the boat, and to go before him to the other side, till he might let away the multitudes; |
| 14:23 | and having let away the multitudes, he went up to the mountain by himself to pray, and evening having come, he was there alone, |
| 14:24 | and the boat was now in the midst of the sea, distressed by the waves, for the wind was contrary. |
| 14:25 | And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went away to them, walking upon the sea, |
| 14:26 | and the disciples having seen him walking upon the sea, were troubled saying -- `It is an apparition,' and from the fear they cried out; |
| 14:27 | and immediately Jesus spake to them, saying, `Be of good courage, I am `he', be not afraid.' |
| 14:28 | And Peter answering him said, `Sir, if it is thou, bid me come to thee upon the waters;' |
| 14:29 | and he said, `Come;' and having gone down from the boat, Peter walked upon the waters to come unto Jesus, |
| 14:30 | but seeing the wind vehement, he was afraid, and having begun to sink, he cried out, saying, `Sir, save me.' |
| 14:31 | And immediately Jesus, having stretched forth the hand, laid hold of him, and saith to him, `Little faith! for what didst thou waver?' |
| 14:32 | and they having gone to the boat the wind lulled, |
| 14:33 | and those in the boat having come, did bow to him, saying, `Truly -- God's Son art thou.' |
| 14:34 | And having passed over, they came to the land of Gennesaret, |
| 14:35 | and having recognized him, the men of that place sent forth to all that region round about, and they brought to him all who were ill, |
| 14:36 | and were calling on him that they might only touch the fringe of his garment, and as many as did touch were saved. |

| 14:8 | And she, being before instructed of her mother, said, Give me here John Baptist's head in a charger. |
| 14:9 | And the king was sorry: nevertheless for the oath's sake, and them which sat with him at meat, he commanded it to be given her. |
| 14:10 | And he sent, and beheaded John in the prison. |
| 14:11 | And his head was brought in a charger, and given to the damsel: and she brought it to her mother. |
| 14:12 | And his disciples came, and took up the body, and buried it, and went and told Jesus. |
| 14:13 | When Jesus heard of it, he departed thence by ship into a desert place apart: and when the people had heard thereof, they followed him on foot out of the cities. |
| 14:14 | And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick. |
| 14:15 | And when it was evening, his disciples came to him, saying, This is a desert place, and the time is now past; send the multitude away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves victuals. |
| 14:16 | But Jesus said unto them, They need not depart; give ye them to eat. |
| 14:17 | And they say unto him, We have here but five loaves, and two fishes. |
| 14:18 | He said, Bring them hither to me. |
| 14:19 | And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake, and gave the loaves to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude. |
| 14:20 | And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the fragments that remained twelve baskets full. |
| 14:21 | And they that had eaten were about five thousand men, beside women and children. |
| 14:22 | And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, while he sent the multitudes away. |
| 14:23 | And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone. |
| 14:24 | But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary. |

| 14:26 | And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear. |
| 14:27 | But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid. |
| 14:28 | And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water. |
| 14:29 | And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. |
| 14:30 | But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. |
| 14:31 | And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt? |
| 14:32 | And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased. |
| 14:33 | Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God. |
| 14:34 | And when they were gone over, they came into the land of Gennesaret. |
| 14:35 | And when the men of that place had knowledge of him, they sent out into all that country round about, and brought unto him all that were diseased; |
| 14:36 | And besought him that they might only touch the hem of his garment: and as many as touched were made perfectly whole. |

| 14:13 | And having heard, Jesus withdrew privately from there in a boat, into a deserted place. And hearing, the crowds followed Him on foot out of the cities. |
| 14:14 | And going out, Jesus saw a great crowd and was filled with pity toward them. And He healed their infirm ones. |
| 14:15 | And evening coming, His disciples came near to Him saying, The place is deserted, and the hour is already gone by. Dismiss the crowds, that going away into the villages they may buy provisions for themselves. |
| 14:16 | But Jesus said to them, They have no need to go away. You give them food to eat. |
| 14:17 | But they said to Him, We have nothing here except five loaves and two fish. |
| 14:18 | And He said, Bring them here to Me. |
| 14:19 | And commanding the crowds to recline on the grass, and taking the five loaves and two fish, looking up to Heaven, He blessed. And breaking, He gave the loaves to the disciples, and the disciples gave to the crowds. |
| 14:20 | And all ate and were satisfied. And they took up the left over pieces, twelve hand baskets full. |

| 14:22 | And immediately Jesus made His disciples get into a boat and to go before Him to the other side until He should dismiss the crowds. |
| 14:23 | And having dismissed the crowds, He went up into the mountain alone to pray. And evening coming on, He was there alone. |
| 14:24 | But the boat was now in the middle of the sea, tossed by the waves, for the wind was contrary. |
| 14:25 | But in the fourth watch of the night, Jesus went out to them, walking on the sea. |
| 14:26 | And seeing Him walking on the sea, the disciples were troubled, saying, It is a ghost! And they cried out from the fear. |
| 14:27 | But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, Be comforted! I AM! Do not fear. |
| 14:28 | And answering, Him, Peter said, Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the waters. |
| 14:29 | And He said, Come! And going down from the boat, Peter walked on the waters to go to Jesus. |
| 14:30 | But seeing the strong wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink, he cried out, saying, Lord, save me! |
| 14:31 | And immediately stretching out the hand, Jesus took hold of him, and said to him, Little-faith, why did you doubt? |
| 14:32 | And coming into the boat, the wind ceased. |
| 14:33 | And those in the boat came and worshiped Him, saying, Truly, You are the Son of God. |
| 14:34 | And having passed over, they came to the land of Gennesaret. |
| 14:35 | And recognizing Him, the men of that place sent to all that neighborhood, and brought to Him all those who had illness. |
| 14:36 | And they begged Him that they might touch the fringe of His robe. And as many as touched were made perfectly well. |
