Matthew - Chapter: 14

>
14:1At that time did Herod the tetrarch hear the fame of Jesus,
14:2and said to his servants, `This is John the Baptist, he did rise from the dead, and because of this the mighty energies are working in him.'
14:3For Herod having laid hold on John, did bind him, and did put him in prison, because of Herodias his brother Philip's wife,
14:4for John was saying to him, `It is not lawful to thee to have her,'
14:5and, willing to kill him, he feared the multitude, because as a prophet they were holding him.
14:6But the birthday of Herod being kept, the daughter of Herodias danced in the midst, and did please Herod,
14:7whereupon with an oath he professed to give her whatever she might ask.
14:8And she having been instigated by her mother -- `Give me (says she) here upon a plate the head of John the Baptist;
14:9and the king was grieved, but because of the oaths and of those reclining with him, he commanded `it' to be given;
14:10and having sent, he beheaded John in the prison,
14:11and his head was brought upon a plate, and was given to the damsel, and she brought `it' nigh to her mother.
14:12And his disciples having come, took up the body, and buried it, and having come, they told Jesus,
14:13and Jesus having heard, withdrew thence in a boat to a desolate place by himself, and the multitudes having heard did follow him on land from the cities.
14:14And Jesus having come forth, saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion upon them, and did heal their infirm;
14:15and evening having come, his disciples came to him, saying, `The place is desolate, and the hour hath now past, let away the multitudes that, having gone to the villages, they may buy to themselves food.'
14:16And Jesus said to them, `They have no need to go away -- give ye them to eat.'
14:17And they say to him, `We have not here except five loaves, and two fishes.'
14:18And he said, `Bring ye them to me hither.'
14:19And having commanded the multitudes to recline upon the grass, and having taken the five loaves and the two fishes, having looked up to the heaven, he did bless, and having broken, he gave the loaves to the disciples, and the disciples to the multitudes,
14:20and they did all eat, and were filled, and they took up what was over of the broken pieces twelve hand-baskets full;
14:21and those eating were about five thousand men, apart from women and children.
14:22And immediately Jesus constrained his disciples to go into the boat, and to go before him to the other side, till he might let away the multitudes;
14:23and having let away the multitudes, he went up to the mountain by himself to pray, and evening having come, he was there alone,
14:24and the boat was now in the midst of the sea, distressed by the waves, for the wind was contrary.
14:25And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went away to them, walking upon the sea,
14:26and the disciples having seen him walking upon the sea, were troubled saying -- `It is an apparition,' and from the fear they cried out;
14:27and immediately Jesus spake to them, saying, `Be of good courage, I am `he', be not afraid.'
14:28And Peter answering him said, `Sir, if it is thou, bid me come to thee upon the waters;'
14:29and he said, `Come;' and having gone down from the boat, Peter walked upon the waters to come unto Jesus,
14:30but seeing the wind vehement, he was afraid, and having begun to sink, he cried out, saying, `Sir, save me.'
14:31And immediately Jesus, having stretched forth the hand, laid hold of him, and saith to him, `Little faith! for what didst thou waver?'
14:32and they having gone to the boat the wind lulled,
14:33and those in the boat having come, did bow to him, saying, `Truly -- God's Son art thou.'
14:34And having passed over, they came to the land of Gennesaret,
14:35and having recognized him, the men of that place sent forth to all that region round about, and they brought to him all who were ill,
14:36and were calling on him that they might only touch the fringe of his garment, and as many as did touch were saved.

14:1At that time Herod the tetrarch heard of the fame of Jesus,
14:2And said unto his servants, This is John the Baptist; he is risen from the dead; and therefore mighty works do shew forth themselves in him.
14:3For Herod had laid hold on John, and bound him, and put him in prison for Herodias' sake, his brother Philip's wife.
14:4For John said unto him, It is not lawful for thee to have her.
14:5And when he would have put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet.
14:6But when Herod's birthday was kept, the daughter of Herodias danced before them, and pleased Herod.
14:7Whereupon he promised with an oath to give her whatsoever she would ask.
14:8And she, being before instructed of her mother, said, Give me here John Baptist's head in a charger.
14:9And the king was sorry: nevertheless for the oath's sake, and them which sat with him at meat, he commanded it to be given her.
14:10And he sent, and beheaded John in the prison.
14:11And his head was brought in a charger, and given to the damsel: and she brought it to her mother.
14:12And his disciples came, and took up the body, and buried it, and went and told Jesus.
14:13When Jesus heard of it, he departed thence by ship into a desert place apart: and when the people had heard thereof, they followed him on foot out of the cities.
14:14And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick.
14:15And when it was evening, his disciples came to him, saying, This is a desert place, and the time is now past; send the multitude away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves victuals.
14:16But Jesus said unto them, They need not depart; give ye them to eat.
14:17And they say unto him, We have here but five loaves, and two fishes.
14:18He said, Bring them hither to me.
14:19And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake, and gave the loaves to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.
14:20And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the fragments that remained twelve baskets full.
14:21And they that had eaten were about five thousand men, beside women and children.
14:22And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, while he sent the multitudes away.
14:23And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone.
14:24But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary.
14:25And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea.
14:26And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear.
14:27But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.
14:28And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.
14:29And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.
14:30But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.
14:31And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?
14:32And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased.
14:33Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.
14:34And when they were gone over, they came into the land of Gennesaret.
14:35And when the men of that place had knowledge of him, they sent out into all that country round about, and brought unto him all that were diseased;
14:36And besought him that they might only touch the hem of his garment: and as many as touched were made perfectly whole.

14:1At that time Herod the tetrarch heard the fame of Jesus.
14:2And he said to his servants, This is John the Baptist. He has risen from the dead, and because of this, powerful works are working in him.
14:3For seizing John, Herod bound him and put him into prison, because of Herodias, the wife of his brother Philip.
14:4For John said to him, It is not lawful for you to have her.
14:5And desiring to kill him, he feared the multitude, because they held him as a prophet.
14:6But a birthday feast for Herod being held, the daughter of Herodias danced in the midst and pleased Herod.
14:7So then he promised with an oath to give her whatever she should ask.
14:8But she being urged on by her mother, she says, Give me here on a platter the head of John the Baptist.
14:9And the king was grieved, but because of the oaths, and those who had reclined with him , he ordered it to be given.
14:10And sending, he beheaded John in the prison.
14:11And his head was brought on a platter and was given to the girl, and she brought it to her mother.
14:12And having come, his disciples took the body and buried it; and coming, they reported to Jesus.
14:13And having heard, Jesus withdrew privately from there in a boat, into a deserted place. And hearing, the crowds followed Him on foot out of the cities.
14:14And going out, Jesus saw a great crowd and was filled with pity toward them. And He healed their infirm ones.
14:15And evening coming, His disciples came near to Him saying, The place is deserted, and the hour is already gone by. Dismiss the crowds, that going away into the villages they may buy provisions for themselves.
14:16But Jesus said to them, They have no need to go away. You give them food to eat.
14:17But they said to Him, We have nothing here except five loaves and two fish.
14:18And He said, Bring them here to Me.
14:19And commanding the crowds to recline on the grass, and taking the five loaves and two fish, looking up to Heaven, He blessed. And breaking, He gave the loaves to the disciples, and the disciples gave to the crowds.
14:20And all ate and were satisfied. And they took up the left over pieces, twelve hand baskets full.
14:21And the ones eating were about five thousand men, besides women and children.
14:22And immediately Jesus made His disciples get into a boat and to go before Him to the other side until He should dismiss the crowds.
14:23And having dismissed the crowds, He went up into the mountain alone to pray. And evening coming on, He was there alone.
14:24But the boat was now in the middle of the sea, tossed by the waves, for the wind was contrary.
14:25But in the fourth watch of the night, Jesus went out to them, walking on the sea.
14:26And seeing Him walking on the sea, the disciples were troubled, saying, It is a ghost! And they cried out from the fear.
14:27But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, Be comforted! I AM! Do not fear.
14:28And answering, Him, Peter said, Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the waters.
14:29And He said, Come! And going down from the boat, Peter walked on the waters to go to Jesus.
14:30But seeing the strong wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink, he cried out, saying, Lord, save me!
14:31And immediately stretching out the hand, Jesus took hold of him, and said to him, Little-faith, why did you doubt?
14:32And coming into the boat, the wind ceased.
14:33And those in the boat came and worshiped Him, saying, Truly, You are the Son of God.
14:34And having passed over, they came to the land of Gennesaret.
14:35And recognizing Him, the men of that place sent to all that neighborhood, and brought to Him all those who had illness.
14:36And they begged Him that they might touch the fringe of His robe. And as many as touched were made perfectly well.
