Matthew - Chapter: 17

>
17:1And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, and James, and John his brother, and doth bring them up to a high mount by themselves,
17:2and he was transfigured before them, and his face shone as the sun, and his garments did become white as the light,
17:3and lo, appear to them did Moses and Elijah, talking together with him.
17:4And Peter answering said to Jesus, `Sir, it is good to us to be here; if thou wilt, we may make here three booths -- for thee one, and for Moses one, and one for Elijah.'
17:5While he is yet speaking, lo, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and lo, a voice out of the cloud, saying, `This is My Son, -- the Beloved, in whom I did delight; hear him.'
17:6And the disciples having heard, did fall upon their face, and were exceedingly afraid,
17:7and Jesus having come near, touched them, and said, `Rise, be not afraid,'
17:8and having lifted up their eyes, they saw no one, except Jesus only.
17:9And as they are coming down from the mount, Jesus charged them, saying, `Say to no one the vision, till the Son of Man out of the dead may rise.'
17:10And his disciples questioned him, saying, `Why then do the scribes say that Elijah it behoveth to come first?'
17:11And Jesus answering said to them, `Elijah doth indeed come first, and shall restore all things,
17:12and I say to you -- Elijah did already come, and they did not know him, but did with him whatever they would, so also the Son of Man is about to suffer by them.'
17:13Then understood the disciples that concerning John the Baptist he spake to them.
17:14And when they came unto the multitude, there came to him a man, kneeling down to him,
17:15and saying, `Sir, deal kindly with my son, for he is lunatic, and doth suffer miserably, for often he doth fall into the fire, and often into the water,
17:16and I brought him near to thy disciples, and they were not able to heal him.'
17:17And Jesus answering said, `O generation, unstedfast and perverse, till when shall I be with you? till when shall I bear you? bring him to me hither;'
17:18and Jesus rebuked him, and the demon went out of him, and the lad was healed from that hour.
17:19Then the disciples having come to Jesus by himself, said, `Wherefore were we not able to cast him out?'
17:20And Jesus said to them, `Through your want of faith; for verily I say to you, if ye may have faith as a grain of mustard, ye shall say to this mount, Remove hence to yonder place, and it shall remove, and nothing shall be impossible to you,
17:21and this kind doth not go forth except in prayer and fasting.'
17:22And while they are living in Galilee, Jesus said to them, `The Son of Man is about to be delivered up to the hands of men,
17:23and they shall kill him, and the third day he shall rise,' and they were exceeding sorry.
17:24And they having come to Capernaum, those receiving the didrachms came near to Peter, and said, `Your teacher -- doth he not pay the didrachms?' He saith, `Yes.'
17:25And when he came into the house, Jesus anticipated him, saying, `What thinkest thou, Simon? the kings of the earth -- from whom do they receive custom or poll-tax? from their sons or from the strangers?'
17:26Peter saith to him, `From the strangers.' Jesus said to him, `Then are the sons free;
17:27but, that we may not cause them to stumble, having gone to the sea, cast a hook, and the fish that hath come up first take thou up, and having opened its mouth, thou shalt find a stater, that having taken, give to them for me and thee.'

17:1And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart,
17:2And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light.
17:3And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him.
17:4Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.
17:5While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.
17:6And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were sore afraid.
17:7And Jesus came and touched them, and said, Arise, and be not afraid.
17:8And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no man, save Jesus only.
17:9And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of man be risen again from the dead.
17:10And his disciples asked him, saying, Why then say the scribes that Elias must first come?
17:11And Jesus answered and said unto them, Elias truly shall first come, and restore all things.
17:12But I say unto you, That Elias is come already, and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they listed. Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them.
17:13Then the disciples understood that he spake unto them of John the Baptist.
17:14And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a certain man, kneeling down to him, and saying,
17:15Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is a lunatick, and sore vexed: for ofttimes he falleth into the fire, and oft into the water.
17:16And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him.
17:17Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me.
17:18And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour.
17:19Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out?
17:20And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.
17:21Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.
17:22And while they abode in Galilee, Jesus said unto them, The Son of man shall be betrayed into the hands of men:
17:23And they shall kill him, and the third day he shall be raised again. And they were exceeding sorry.
17:24And when they were come to Capernaum, they that received tribute money came to Peter, and said, Doth not your master pay tribute?
17:25He saith, Yes. And when he was come into the house, Jesus prevented him, saying, What thinkest thou, Simon? of whom do the kings of the earth take custom or tribute? of their own children, or of strangers?
17:26Peter saith unto him, Of strangers. Jesus saith unto him, Then are the children free.
17:27Notwithstanding, lest we should offend them, go thou to the sea, and cast an hook, and take up the fish that first cometh up; and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a piece of money: that take, and give unto them for me and thee.

17:1And after six days, Jesus took Peter and James, and his brother John, and brought them up into a high mountain apart.
17:2And He was transfigured before them, and His face shone like the sun, and His clothing became white as the light.
17:3And, behold! Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him.
17:4And answering, Peter said to Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here. If You will, let us make three tents here, one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.
17:5While he was yet speaking, behold, a radiant cloud overshadowed them. And, behold, a voice out of the cloud saying, This is My Son, the Beloved, in whom I delight; hear Him. Psa. 2:7; Gen. 22:2; Isa. 42:1; Deut. 18:15
17:6And hearing, the disciples fell on their face and were greatly terrified.
17:7And coming near, Jesus touched them and said, Rise up, and do not be terrified.
17:8And lifting up their eyes, they did not see anyone except Jesus alone.
17:9And as they were coming down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, Tell the vision to no one until the Son of man is raised from the dead.
17:10And His disciples asked Him, saying, Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?
17:11And answering, Jesus said to them, Elijah indeed comes first and shall restore all things.
17:12But I say to you, Elijah has already come, and they did not know him, but did to him whatever they desired. So also the Son of man is about to suffer by them.
17:13Then the disciples understood that He spoke to them about John the Baptist.
17:14And they coming to the crowd, a man came near to Him, kneeling down to Him, and saying,
17:15Lord, pity my son. For he is moonstruck and suffers miserably. For he often falls into the fire, and often into the water.
17:16And I brought him to Your disciples, and they were not able to heal him.
17:17And answering, Jesus said, O faithless and perverted generation! How long will I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him here to Me.
17:18And Jesus rebuked him, and the demon came out from him; and the boy was healed from that hour.
17:19Then coming up to Jesus privately, the disciples said, Why were we not able to cast him out?
17:20And Jesus said to them, Because of your unbelief. For truly I say to you, If you have faith as a grain of mustard, you will say to this mountain, Move from here to there! And it will move. And nothing shall be impossible to you.
17:21But this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.
17:22And while they were staying in Galilee, Jesus said to them, The Son of man is about to be delivered into the hands of men.
17:23And they will kill Him, and on the third day He will be raised. And they grieved exceedingly.
17:24And they coming into Capernaum, those receiving the didrachmas came to Peter and said, Does your teacher not pay the didrachmas?
17:25He said, Yes. And when he entered into the house, Jesus anticipated him, saying, What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth receive custom or tribute? From their sons or from strangers?
17:26Peter said to Him, From strangers. Jesus said to him, Then truly the sons are free.
17:27But that we may not offend them, going to the sea, throw in a hook and take the first fish coming up. And opening its mouth, you will find a stater. Taking that, give to them for you and Me.
