| 27:1 | When the mornynge was come, all the chefe prestes and the elders of the people helde a counsayle agaynst Iesus, to put him to deeth, |
| 27:2 | and brought him bounde and delyuered him vnto Poncius Pylate the debite. |
| 27:3 | Then Iudas (which had betrayed him) seyng that he was condempned, repented him selfe, and brought agayne the thirtye plates of syluer, to the chefe Prestes and elders, |
| 27:4 | sayinge: I haue synned, betrayinge the innocent bloud. And they sayd: what is that to vs? Se thou to that. |
| 27:5 | And he cast downe the syluer plates in the temple, and departed and went and hanged hym selfe. |
| 27:6 | And the chefe prestes toke the syluer plates and sayd: it is not lawfull for to put them into the treasure, because it is the pryce of bloud. |
| 27:7 | And they toke counsell: and bought wt them a potters felde to bury straungers in. |
| 27:8 | Wherfore that felde is called the felde of bloud, vntyll this daye. |
| 27:9 | Then was fulfylled, that which was spoken by Ieremy the Prophet, sayinge: and they toke thirtye syluer plates, the pryse of him that was valued, whom they bought of the chyldren of Israel, |
| 27:10 | and gaue them for the potters felde, as the Lorde apoynted me. |
| 27:11 | Iesus stode before the debite, and the debite asked him, sayinge: art thou the kyng of the Iewes? Iesus sayeth vnto him: Thou sayest. |
| 27:12 | And when he was accused of the chefe prestes & elders, he answered nothyng. |
| 27:13 | Then sayeth Pilate vnto him: hearest thou not, how many witnesses they laye agaynst the? |
| 27:14 | and he answered him to neuer a worde: in so moch that the debyte marueyled greatlye. |
| 27:15 | At that feast, the debite was wonte to delyuer vnto the people a presoner, whom they wold desier. |
| 27:16 | He had then a notable presoner, called Barrabas. |
| 27:17 | Therfore, when they were gathered together, Pilate sayd: whether wil ye that I geue loosse vnto you? Barrabas, or Iesus, whych is called Chryst? |
| 27:18 | For he knewe that for enuie they had delyuered him. |
| 27:19 | When he was set downe to geue iudgement, his wyfe sent vnto him sayinge: haue thou nothinge to do with that iust man. For I haue suffered many thinges this daye in my slepe because of him. |
| 27:20 | But the chefe prestes and the elders persuaded the people, that they shulde aske Barrabas, and destroye Iesus. |
| 27:21 | The debite answered, and sayde vnto them: whether of the twayne, will ye, that I let loosse vnto you? They sayd: Barrabas. |
| 27:22 | Pilate sayde vnto them: what shall I do then with Iesus whych is called Christ? They all sayd vnto him: let him be crucifyed. |
| 27:23 | The debite sayde: what euyll hath he done? But they cryed the more, sayinge: let him be crucifyed. |
| 27:24 | When Pilate sawe that he coulde preuayle nothinge, but that more busynes was made, he toke water, and wasshed hys handes before the people, sayinge: I am innocent of the bloud of this iust person, ye shall se. |
| 27:25 | Then answered all the people, and sayd his bloud be on vs, and on oure children. |
| 27:26 | Then let he Barrabas loose vnto them, and scourged Iesus, and delyuered him to be crucifyed. |
| 27:27 | Then the soudeours of the debite toke Iesus in the comen hall, and gathered vnto him al the company. |
| 27:28 | And they stripped him, and put on him a purpill robe, |
| 27:29 | and platted a croune of thornes and put vpon his heed, and a rede in his ryght hande: and bowed the knee before him: & mocked him, saying: hayle, kyng of the Iewes: |
| 27:30 | and whan they had spytt vpon him, they toke the rede, and smote him on the heed. |
| 27:31 | And after that they had mocked him, they toke the roabe of him agayne, and put hys awne rayment on him, & led him awaye to crucifye him. |
| 27:32 | And as they came out, they founde a man of Cyren (named Simon) him they compelled to beare his crosse. |
| 27:33 | And they came vnto the place which is called Golgotha (that is to saye, a place of deed mens sculles) |
| 27:34 | and gaue hym veneger to drincke myngled with gall. And when he had tasted therof, he wolde not drincke. |
| 27:35 | When they had crucifyed him, they parted his garmentes, & dyd cast lottes: that it myght be fulfylled which was spoken by the Prophet. They departed my garmentes amonge them: and vpon my vesture dyd they cast lottes. |
| 27:36 | And they sate and watched him there, |
| 27:37 | and set vp ouer his heed the cause of hys deeth, wrytten: This is Iesus the kynge of the Iewes. |
| 27:38 | Then were there two theues crucifyed with him, one on the ryght hande, and another on the lyfte. |
| 27:39 | They that passed by, reuyled him, waggynge their heades, |
| 27:40 | and sayinge: thou that destroydest the temple of God and dyddest bylde it in thre dayes, saue thy selfe If thou be the sonne of God, come downe from the crosse. |
| 27:41 | Like wyse also the hye prestes, mocking him with the Scribes and elders sayde: |
| 27:42 | He saued other, him selfe can he not saue. If he be the kynge of Israel: let him now come doune from the crosse, & we will beleue him. |
| 27:43 | He trusted in God, let him delyuer him now, yf he wyll haue him: for he sayde, I am the sonne of God. |
| 27:44 | The theues also, which were crucifyed with him, cast the same in his tethe. |
| 27:45 | From the syxte houre was there dercknes ouer all the lande vnto the nynth houre. |
| 27:46 | And about the nynth houre, Iesus cryed, wyth a loude voyce, sayinge: Eli, Eli lamasabaththany. That is to saye: my God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? |
| 27:47 | Some of them that stode there, when they herde that, sayde: This man calleth for Helias. |
| 27:48 | And streyght waye one of them ranne, and toke a sponge, and whan he had fylled it full of veneger, he put it on a rede, and gaue him to drincke. |
| 27:49 | Other sayde, let be: let vs se whether Helias will come, & delyuer him. |
| 27:50 | Iesus, whan he had cried agayne wt a loude voyce, yelded vp the goost. |
| 27:51 | And beholde, the vayle of the temple dyd rent in to two partes, from the toppe to the bottome, and the earth dyd quake, and the stones ren |
| 27:52 | and graues dyd open: and many bodyes of sainctes which slept, arose, |
| 27:53 | & went out of the graues after his resurreccyon, and came in to the holy cytie, and appeared vnto many. |
| 27:54 | When the Centurion and they that were with him watchinge Iesus, sawe the erth quake, those thinges which happened, they feared greatly, saying: Trulye, this was the sonne of God. |
| 27:55 | And many wemen were there (beholdinge hym a farre of) whych folowed Iesus from Galile, mynistringe vnto him. |
| 27:56 | Amonge which was Mary Magdalen, and Mary the mother of Iames and Ioses, and the mother of Zebedes chyldren. |
| 27:57 | When the euen was come there came a riche man of Aramathia named Ioseph, which also was Iesus disciple: |
| 27:58 | He went to Pilate and begged the body of Iesus. Then Pilate commaunded the bodye to be delyuered. |
| 27:59 | And whan Ioseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a cleane lynnen cloth, |
| 27:60 | and layed it in hys newe tombe, whych he had hewen out, euen in the rocke, and rolled a greate stone to the dore of the sepulcre & departed. |
| 27:61 | And there was Mary Magdalene and the other Mary syttynge ouer agaynste the sepulcre. |
| 27:62 | The nexte daye that folowed the daye of preparinge, the hye prestes and Pharises came together vnto Pilate, |
| 27:63 | sayeng: Syr, we remembre, that this deceauer sayde whyle he was yet alyue. After thre dayes I wyll aryse agayne. |
| 27:64 | Commaunde therfore that the sepulcre be made sure vntyll the thyrd daye, lest hys disciples come, & steale him awaye and saye vnto the people: he is rysen from the deed, & the last errour shalbe worse then the fyrst. |
| 27:65 | Pylate sayde vnto them: Ye haue the watch go your waye, make it as sure as ye can. |
| 27:66 | So they went, and made the sepulcre sure with watche men, and sealed the stone. |
| 27:1 | But whanne the morowtid was comun, alle the princis of prestis, and the eldre men of the puple token counsel ayens Jhesu, that thei schulden take hym to the deeth. |
| 27:2 | And thei ledden him boundun, and bitoken to Pilat of Pounce, iustice. |
| 27:3 | Thanne Judas that bitraiede hym, say that he was dampned, he repentide, and brouyte ayen the thretti pans to the princis of prestis, and to the elder men of the puple, |
| 27:4 | and seide, Y haue synned, bitraiynge riytful blood. And thei seiden, What to vs? bise thee. |
| 27:5 | And whanne he hadde cast forth the siluer in the temple, he passide forth, and yede, and hongide hym silf with a snare. |
| 27:6 | And the princis of prestis token the siluer, and seide, It is not leueful to putte it in to the treserie, for it is the prijs of blood. |
| 27:7 | And whanne thei hadden take counsel, thei bouyten with it a feeld of a potter, in to biryyng of pilgrymys. |
| 27:8 | Herfor thilke feeld is clepid Acheldemac, that is, a feeld of blood, in to this dai. |
| 27:9 | Thanne that was fulfillid, that was seid bi the prophete Jeremye, seiynge, And thei han takun thretti pans, the prijs of a man preysid, whom thei preiseden of the children of Israel; |
| 27:10 | and thei yauen hem in to a feeld of a potter, as the Lord hath ordenyd to me. |
| 27:11 | And Jhesus stood bifor the domesman; and the iustice axide him, and seide, Art thou king of Jewis? |
| 27:12 | Jhesus seith to hym, Thou seist. And whanne he was accusid of the princis of prestis, and of the eldere men of the puple, he answeride no thing. |
| 27:13 | Thanne Pilat seith to him, Herist thou not, hou many witnessyngis thei seien ayens thee? |
| 27:14 | And he answeride not `to hym ony word, so that the iustice wondride greetli. |
| 27:15 | But for a solempne dai the iustice was wont to delyuere to the puple oon boundun, whom thei wolden. |
| 27:16 | And he hadde tho a famous man boundun, that was seid Barrabas. |
| 27:17 | Therfor Pilate seide to hem, whanne thei weren to gidere, Whom wolen ye, that Y delyuere to you? whether Barabas, or Jhesu, that is seid Crist? |
| 27:18 | For he wiste, that bi enuye thei bitraieden hym. |
| 27:19 | And while he sat for domesman, his wijf sente to hym, and seide, No thing to thee and to that iust man; for Y haue suffrid this dai many thingis for hym, bi a visioun. |
| 27:20 | Forsothe the prince of prestis, and the eldere men counseiliden the puple, that thei schulden axe Barabas, but thei schulden distrye Jhesu. |
| 27:21 | But the iustice answeride, and seide to hem, Whom of the tweyn wolen ye, that be delyuerit to you? And thei seiden, Barabas. |
| 27:22 | Pilat seith to hem, What thanne schal Y do of Jhesu, that is seid Crist? |
| 27:23 | Alle seien, `Be he crucified. The iustice seith to hem, What yuel hath he doon? And thei crieden more, and seiden, Be he crucified. |
| 27:24 | And Pilat seynge that he profitide no thing, but that the more noyse was maad, took watir, and waischide hise hondis bifor the puple, and seide, Y am giltles of the blood of this riytful man; bise you. |
| 27:25 | And al the puple answeride, and seide, His blood be on vs, and on oure children. |
| 27:26 | Thanne he deliuerede to hem Barabas, but he took to hem Jhesu scourgid, to be crucified. |
| 27:27 | Thanne knyytis of the iustice token Jhesu in the moot halle, and gadriden to hym al the cumpeny `of knyytis. |
| 27:28 | And thei vnclothiden hym, and diden aboute hym a reed mantil; |
| 27:29 | and thei foldiden a coroun of thornes, and putten on his heed, and a rehed in his riyt hoond; and thei kneliden bifore hym, and scornyden hym, and seiden, Heil, kyng of Jewis. |
| 27:30 | And thei speten on hym, and tooken a rehed, and smoot his heed. |
| 27:31 | And aftir that thei hadden scorned him, thei vnclothiden hym of the mantil, and thei clothiden hym with hise clothis, and ledden hym to `crucifien hym. |
| 27:32 | And as thei yeden out, thei founden a man of Cirenen comynge fro the toun, Symont bi name; thei constreyneden hym to take his cross. |
| 27:33 | And thei camen in to a place that is clepid Golgatha, that is, the place of Caluarie. |
| 27:34 | And thei yauen hym to drynke wyne meynd with galle; and whanne he hadde tastid, he wolde not drynke. |
| 27:35 | And aftir that thei hadden crucified hym, thei departiden his clothis, and kesten lotte, to fulfille that is seid bi the prophete, seiynge, Thei partiden to hem my clothis, and on my clooth thei kesten lott. |
| 27:36 | And thei seten, and kepten him; |
| 27:37 | and setten aboue his heed his cause writun, This is Jhesu of Nazareth, kyng of Jewis. |

| 27:53 | And thei yeden out of her birielis, and aftir his resurreccioun thei camen in to the holi citee, and apperiden to many. |
| 27:54 | And the centurien and thei that weren with hym kepinge Jhesu, whanne thei saien the erthe schakynge, and tho thingis that weren doon, thei dredden greetli, |
| 27:55 | and seiden, Verili this was Goddis sone. And ther weren there many wymmen afer, that sueden Jhesu fro Galilee, and mynystriden to hym. |

| 27:64 | Therfor comaunde thou, that the sepulcre be kept in to the thridde dai; lest hise disciplis comen, and stelen hym, and seie to the puple, He hath rise fro deeth; and the laste errour schal be worse than the formere. |
| 27:65 | Pilat seide to hem, Ye han the kepyng; go ye, kepe ye as ye kunnen. |
| 27:66 | And thei yeden forth, and kepten the sepulcre, markynge the stoon, with keperis. |

| 27:21 | Then answered the debyte, & sayde vnto the: Whether of these two wyl ye yt I geue lowse vnto you? They sayde: Barrabas: |
| 27:22 | Pylate sayde vnto them: What shal I do then with Iesus, which is called Christ? They sayde all: let him be crucified. |
| 27:23 | The debyte saide: What euell hath he done the? Neuertheles they cried yet more and sayde, let him be crucified. |
| 27:24 | So whan Pilate sawe, that he coude not helpe, but that there was a greater vproure, he toke water, and wasshed his handes before the people, and sayde: I am vngiltie of ye bloude of this righteous man. Se ye therto. |
| 27:25 | Then answered all the people, and sayde: His bloude come vpon vs, and vpon oure children. |
| 27:26 | Then gaue he Barrabas lowse vnto the, but caused Iesus be scourged, and delyuered him to be crucified. |
| 27:27 | Then the debites soudyers toke Iesus, in to the comon hall, and gathered the whole multitude ouer him, |
| 27:28 | and stryped him out of his clothes, and put a purple robe vpo him, |
| 27:29 | and plated a crowne of thorne, & set it vpon his heade, and a rede in his hade, and kneled before him, and mocked him, and sayde: hayle kynge of the Iewes. |
| 27:30 | And spytted vpon him, and toke ye rede, & smote him vpon the heade. |
| 27:31 | And wha they had mocked hi, they toke the robe of him ageyne, & put his owne clothes vpon him, and led him forth, yt they might crucifie hi. |
| 27:32 | And as they were goinge out, they founde a man of Cyren called Symon: him they compelled to beare his crosse. |

| 27:37 | And aboue ouer his heade, they put vp the cause of his death in wrytinge: namely: This is the kynge of the Iewes. |
| 27:38 | Then were there two murthurers crucified with him, the one of the right hande, and the other on the left. |
| 27:39 | They that wente by, reuyled him, and wagged their heades |
| 27:40 | and sayde: Thou that breakest downe the teple of God, and buyldest it in thre dayes, helpe thyself. Yf thou be the sonne of God, come downe from the crosse. |
| 27:41 | The hye prestes also in like maner with the scrybes & elders, laughed him to scorne, and sayde: |
| 27:42 | he hath helped other, and can not helpe himself: Yf he be the kynge of Israel, let him come downe now from the crosse, and we wil beleue him |
| 27:43 | He trusted in God, let him delyuer him now, yf he wil haue him. For he hath sayde: I am the sonne of God. |
| 27:44 | The murtherers also that were crucified with him, cast the same in his tethe. |
| 27:45 | And from ye sixte houre there was darcknes ouer the whole earth vnto the nyenth houre. |
| 27:46 | And aboute the nyenth houre, Iesus cried with a loude voyce, and sayde: Eli, Eli, Lamma asabthani? that is, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? |
| 27:47 | But some of the that stode there, when they herde yt sayde: He calleth Elias. |
| 27:48 | And immediatly one of them ranne, and toke a spoge, and fylled it with veneger, and put it vpon a rede, and gaue him to dryncke. |
| 27:49 | But ye other sayde: holde, let se whether Elias wyl come, and delyuer him. |
| 27:50 | Iesus cried agayne with a loude voyce, and gaue vp the goost. |
| 27:51 | And beholde, the vale of the temple was rente in two peces, from aboue tyll beneth, and the earth quaked, and the stones rent, |
| 27:52 | and the graues opened, and many bodies of the sayntes that slepte, arose, |
| 27:53 | and wete out of the graues after his resurreccion, and came in to the holy cite, and appeared vnto many. |
| 27:54 | But the captayne and they that were with him, and kepte Iesus, when they sawe the earthquake and the thinges that were done, they were sore afrayed, and sayde: Verely this was Gods sonne. |
| 27:55 | And there were many wemen there lokynge to afarre of, which had folowed Iesus from Galile, and had mynistred vnto him: |
| 27:56 | amonge whom was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of Iames and Ioses, and the mother of the children of Zebede. |
| 27:57 | At euen there came a rich man of Arimathia, called Ioseph, which was also a disciple of Iesus. |
| 27:58 | He wete vnto Pylate, and axed the body of Iesus. Then commaunded Pylate that the body shulde be geue him. |

| 27:63 | and saide: Syr, we haue called to remembraunce, that this disceauer sayde whyle he was yet alyue: After thre dayes I wyl ryse agayne. |
| 27:64 | Comaunde therfore that the sepulcre be kepte vnto the thirde daye, lest peraduenture his disciples come, and steale him awaye, and saye vnto the people: He is rysen from the deed, and so shal the last errour be worse the the first. |
| 27:65 | Pylate sayde vnto them: There haue ye watchme, go youre waye, and kepe it as ye can. |
