1:5	On herode dagen iudea cyninges wæs sum sacerd on namen zacharias of abian tune. & his wif wæs of äärones dohtren. & hire name wæs elisabeth.
1:6	Soðlice hyo wæren ba twa rihtwise be-foren gode. & gangenden on eallen hys beboden & rihtwisnesse. ba twa wrohte.
1:7	& hyo nafden nan bearn. for-ðan elisabeth wæs un-berende & hyo on heore dagen baðe forð-eoden.
1:8	Soðlice wæs ge-worðen þa zacharias hys sacerd-hades brea. on his ge-wrixles endebyrdnysse be-fore gode.
1:9	æfter ge-wunan. þara sacerdes hades hlotes he eode þæt he his offringe sette. Ða he on godes tempel eode
1:10	eall wered þas folkes wæs ute biddende on þare offrenge timen.
1:11	Ða atewede hym drihtenes ængel standende on þas weofedes swiðren healfe.
1:12	Þa warð zacharias ge-drefed þæt ge-seonde & him eige on-reas.
1:13	Ða cwæð se ængel hym to. ne on-dred þu þe zacharias. for þan þin bene is ge-herd. & þin wif elisabeth þe sune kenð. & þu nemnest hys name Iohannes
1:14	& he byð þe to blisse. & manega on his akynnednysse ge-fageneð.
1:15	Soðlice he byð mære be-foren drihtene. & he ne drincð win ne beor. & he beoð ge-felleð mid halgen gaste; Þanne gyt of hys moder innoðe.
1:16	& manege israele bearne he ge-chyrd to drihtene heore gode
1:17	& he gæð to-foren him on gaste. & on helias ge-mihte. & he fæderan heortan to heora bearnan ge-cyrre. & ungeleafulle. to rihtwise gleaw-scipe. drihtne fulfremed folc ge-gærewian.
1:18	Ða cwæð zacharias to þam engle. hwanan wat ich þis. Ic eom nu eald & min wif on heora dagen forð-eode.
1:19	Þa andswerede him se ængel. Ich eom gabriel se engel. ic þe stande be-foren gode. & ich eom asend wið þe sprecen. & þe þis bodien.
1:20	End nu abydst swigende. & þu spræken ne miht oð þanne dayg þe þas þing gewurðad. for þan þu mine worden ne lyfdest þa byð on heora timan ge-fylde.
1:21	And þæt folc wæs zachariam ge-abydende. & wundredon. þæt he on þæt temple ge-læt wæs.
1:22	Ða he ut-eode ne mihte he heom to spræcen. & hyo on-cneowen þæt he on þam temple sume ge-sihte ge-seah. & he wæs beacniende heom & dumb þurh-wunede.
1:23	Þa wæs ge-worðen þa his þenunga dages ge-fylde wæren. he ferde to his huse.
1:24	Soðlice æfter dagen elisabeth his wif ge-eacnode. & hy be-dyglede hyo fif monðas & cwæð.
1:25	Soðlice me drihten ge-dyde þus on þam dagen þe he ge-seah mine hosp be-twux mannen afyrran.
1:26	Note: Missus est angelus gabriel á deo in ciuitatem galiléé. Soðlice on þam syxten monðe wæs a-send gabriel se engel fram drihtene on galilëë cestre þare name wæs nazareth.
1:27	to be-weddedre femnen anen were þas name wæs ioseph of dauiðes huse. & þare femne name wæs mariam.
1:28	Ða cwæð se ængel ingangende. Hal wæsse þu mid gyfe ge-fylled. drihten mid þe. Þu ert ge-bletsed on wifen.
1:29	þa warð hyo on his spræce ge-drefed. & þohte hwæt syo gretunge wære.
1:30	Ða cwæð se ængel. ne on-dræd þu þe Maria. Soðlice þu gyfe mid gode ge-mettest
1:31	soðlice nu þu on innoðe ge-eacnest. & sune censt ænd hys name hælend ge-nemnest
1:32	& se byoð mære. & þas heagestes sune ge-nemned. & hym sylð drihten god his fæder dauides setll.
1:33	& he rixad on echnesse on Iacobes huse. & his riche ænde ne beoð.
1:34	Þa cwæð maria to þam ængle hu ge-wurð þis for þan ich were ne on-cnawe.
1:35	Ða andswerede hyre se ængel. Se halge gast on þe be-kymd & þas heagestan mihte þe ofer-scædeð. & for þan þt halig þe of þe akenned byð; byð godes sune ge-nemned.
1:36	Ænd nu elisabeth þin mage sune on hire elde ge-echnede. & þes moneð is hire syxto sye is unberende ge-nemned.
1:37	for-þy nis ælch word mid gode unmihte-lic.
1:38	Ða cwæð Maria. Her is drihtenes þinen. ge-wurðe me æfter þinen worde. & se ængel hire fram ge-wat.
1:39	Note: Exurgens Maria abiit in montana cum festinatione. Soðlice on þam dagen aras Maria & ferde on muntlande mid efste. on iudeisse ceastre.
1:40	& eode in-to zacharias huse. & grette elisabeth.
1:41	Ða wæs ge-worðen. þa helisabeth ge-herde maRie gretinge. þa ge-fagene þæt chyld on hire innoðe. ænd þa warð elisabeth halgen gaste ge-fylled.
1:42	ænd hyo cleopede hludere stefne. & cwæð. Ðu ært be-twux wifen ge-bledsed. & ge-bletsed ys þines innoðes wæstme.
1:43	& hwanen is me þis þæt mines drihtenes moder scolde to me cume.
1:44	Sone swa þinre gretinge stefne on minan earen ge-worðan wæs. þa fagenede min chyld on minen innoðe.
1:45	Ænd eadig þu ert þu þe ge-lyfdest þæt fulfremede sinde þa þing. þe þe fram drihtene ge-saigde synde.
1:46	Ða cwæð maria min saule mersed drihten.
1:47	and min gast ge-blissode on gode minen hælende.
1:48	For þam þe he ge-seah his þinene eadmodnysse. Soðlice henen-forð me eadige seggeð ealle cneornesse.
1:49	for þam þe me mychele þing dyde se þe mihtyg ys. & his name is halig
1:50	& hys mildheortnysse of cneornisse. on cneornesse hine on-drædende.
1:51	He worhte mægne on hys earme. he to-dælde þa ofermode. on moda heora heortan.
1:52	He warp þa rice of setlle. & þa eadmode he up an-hof.
1:53	Hyngriende he mid gode ge-felde. & þa ofor-mode ydele for-let.
1:54	He afeng israel his cniht & ge-mynde hys mildheortnysse.
1:55	Swa he spræc to ure fæderen abrahame. & his sæde on a weorlde.
1:56	Soðlice Marie wunede mid hire swylce þreo monðes; & ge-wende þa to hire huse.
1:57	Ða wæs afelled elisabethe kenning-tyd. & hyo sune kende.
1:58	ænd hire nehcheburas & hyre cuðan þæt ge-herden þæt drihten hys mildheortnysse mid hire mærsede. & hyo mid hire blisseden.
1:59	Þa on þam ehtode daige hyo comon þæt chyld to embscniðen. & nemden hine his fæder name zachariam.
1:60	Þa andswerede his moder nese soðes. ac he beoð Iohan ge-nemned.
1:61	Ða cwæðen hyo to hire. nis nan on þinre mægðe þisse name ge-nemned.
1:62	Ða cwæðen hyo to his fæder. hwæt he wolde hine ge-nemned beon.
1:63	þa wrat he ge-beðenen wexbrede Iohannes ys hys name. Ða wundredon hyo ealle.
1:64	Ða warð sona hys muð & hys tunge ge-opened & he spræc drihten bletsiende.
1:65	Ða warð eige ge-worden ofer ealle heora nehchegeburas & ofer ealle iudea munt-land wæren þas worð wið-mærsede.
1:66	& ealle þa þe hyt ge-hyrdon on heore heorten setten & cwæðen. Wenst þu hwæt beoð þes cnapa; witoðlice drihtnes hand wæs mid hym.
1:67	Ænd zacharias hys fæder wæs mid halgen gaste ge-fylled. & he wito-gode. & cwæð.
1:68	Ge-bletseð syo drihten israele god; for þan þe he ge-neosede. & hys folces alysendnysse dyde.
1:69	Ænd he us hæle horn arærde on dauides huse. hys cnihtes.
1:70	Swa he spræc þurh hys halgene witegene muð. Ða þe of weorldes fremðe spræken.
1:71	& he alesde us of uren feonden. & of ealre þare handen þe us hateden.
1:72	Mildheortnysse to werchen mid ure fæderen. & ge-munen hys halgen kyðnesse.
1:73	hyne us to sellene þanne að þe he uren fader abrahame swor.
1:74	þæt we buton eyge of ure feondon handen alesde hym þeowian.
1:75	on halignesse be-foran hym eallen ure dagen.
1:76	& þu cnapa gæst & beost þas heageste witega ge-nemned. Ðu gæst be-foran drihtnes ansiene hys wegas gearewian.
1:77	To syllene hys folce his halge ge-wit on hira synna for-gefenyssa.
1:78	Ðurh innoðes ures godes mildheortnyssa. on þam he us neosede. of east-dæle up-springende.
1:79	on-lihtan þam þe on þeostrum & on deaðes scade sitteð. ure fet to ge-reccenne on sibbe weig.
1:80	Soðlice se cnape weox. & wæs on gaste ge-stræncþed. & wæs on westene oð þanne dayg his atewednysse on israel.


1:1	Forasmuch as many haue taken in hand to set foorth the storie of those things, whereof we are fully persuaded,
1:2	As they haue deliuered them vnto vs, which from the beginning saw them their selues, and were ministers of ye word,
1:3	It seemed good also to me (most noble Theophilus) assoone as I had searched out perfectly all things from the beginning, to write vnto thee thereof from point to point,
1:4	That thou mightest acknowledge the certaintie of those things, whereof thou hast bene instructed.
1:5	In the time of Herod King of Iudea, there was a certaine Priest named Zacharias, of the course of Abia: and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elisabet.
1:6	Both were iust before God, and walked in all the commandements and ordinances of the Lord, without reproofe.
1:7	And they had no childe, because that Elisabet was barren: and both were well stricken in age.
1:8	And it came to passe, as he executed the Priestes office before God, as his course came in order,
1:9	According to the custome of the Priests office, his lot was to burne incense, when he went into the Temple of the Lord.
1:10	And the whole multitude of the people were without in prayer, while the incense was burning.
1:11	Then appeared vnto him an Angel of the Lord standing at the right side of the altar of incense.
1:12	And when Zacharias sawe him, he was troubled, and feare fell vpon him.
1:13	But the Angel saide vnto him, Feare not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard, and thy wise Elisabet shall beare thee a sonne, and thou shalt call his name Iohn.
1:14	And thou shalt haue ioy and gladnes, and many shall reioyce at his birth.
1:15	For he shalbe great in the sight of the Lord, and shall neither drinke wine, nor strong drinke: and he shalbe filled with the holy Ghost, euen from his mothers wombe.
1:16	And many of the children of Israel shall he turne to their Lord God.
1:17	For he shall goe before him in the spirite and power of Elias, to turne the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisedome of the iust men, to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.
1:18	Then Zacharias said vnto ye Angel, Whereby shall I knowe this? for I am an olde man, and my wife is of a great age.
1:19	And the Angell answered, and sayde vnto him, I am Gabriel that stand in the presence of God, and am sent to speake vnto thee, and to shew thee these good tidings.
1:20	And beholde, thou shalt be domme, and not be able to speake, vntill the day that these things be done, because thou beleeuedst not my words, which shalbe fulfilled in their season.
1:21	Now the people waited for Zacharias, and marueiled that he taried so long in the Temple.
1:22	And when hee came out, hee coulde not speake vnto them: then they perceiued that hee had seene a vision in the Temple: For he made signes vnto them, and remained domme.
1:23	And it came to passe, when the daies of his office were fulfilled, that he departed to his owne house.
1:24	And after those daies, his wife Elisabet conceiued, and hid her selfe fiue moneths, saying,
1:25	Thus hath the Lord dealt with me, in the daies wherein he looked on me, to take from me my rebuke among men.
1:26	And in the sixth moneth, the Angell Gabriel was sent from God vnto a citie of Galile, named Nazareth,
1:27	To a virgin affianced to a man whose name was Ioseph, of the house of Dauid, and the virgins name was Marie.
1:28	And the Angel went in vnto her, and said, Haile thou that art freely beloued: the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.
1:29	And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and thought what maner of salutation that should be.
1:30	Then the Angel saide vnto her, Feare not, Marie: for thou hast found fauour with God.
1:31	For loe, thou shalt conceiue in thy wobe, and beare a sonne, and shalt call his name Iesus.
1:32	He shall be great, and shall be called the Sonne of the most High, and the Lord God shall giue vnto him the throne of his father Dauid.
1:33	And hee shall reigne ouer the house of Iacob for euer, and of his kingdome shall bee none ende.
1:34	Then sayde Marie vnto the Angel, How shall this be, seeing I knowe not man?
1:35	And the Angel answered, and said vnto her, The holy Ghost shall come vpon thee, and the power of the most High shall ouershadowe thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall bee borne of thee, shall be called the Sonne of God.
1:36	And behold, thy cousin Elisabet, she hath also conceiued a sonne in her olde age: and this is her sixt moneth, which was called barren.
1:37	For with God shall nothing be vnpossible.
1:38	Then Marie said, Behold the seruant of the Lord: be it vnto me according to thy woorde. So the Angel departed from her.
1:39	And Marie arose in those daies, and went into ye hil countrey with hast to a citie of Iuda,
1:40	And entred into the house of Zacharias, and saluted Elisabet.
1:41	And it came to passe, as Elisabet heard the salutation of Marie, the babe sprang in her bellie, and Elisabet was filled with the holy Ghost.
1:42	And she cried with a loud voice, and saide, Blessed art thou among women, because the fruit of thy wombe is blessed.
1:43	And whence commeth this to mee, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
1:44	For loe, assoone as the voice of thy salutation sounded in mine eares, the babe sprang in my bellie for ioye,
1:45	And blessed is shee that beleeued: for those things shall be perfourmed, which were tolde her from the Lord.
1:46	Then Marie sayde, My soule magnifieth the Lord,
1:47	And my spirite reioyceth in God my Sauiour.
1:48	For hee hath looked on the poore degree of his seruaunt: for beholde, from henceforth shall all ages call me blessed,
1:49	Because hee that is mightie, hath done for me great things, and holy is his Name.
1:50	And his mercie is from generation to generation on them that feare him.
1:51	Hee hath shewed strength with his arme: hee hath scattered the proude in the imagination of their hearts.
1:52	Hee hath put downe the mighty from their seates, and exalted them of lowe degree.
1:53	Hee hath filled the hungrie with good things, and sent away the rich emptie.
1:54	Hee hath vpholden Israel his seruaunt to be mindefull of his mercie
1:55	(As hee hath spoken to our fathers, to wit, to Abraham, and his seede) for euer.
1:56	And Marie abode with her about three moneths: after, shee returned to her owne house.
1:57	Nowe Elisabets time was fulfilled, that shee should be deliuered, and shee brought foorth a sonne.
1:58	And her neighbours, and cousins heard tell howe the Lord had shewed his great mercie vpon her, and they reioyced with her.
1:59	And it was so that on the eight day they came to circumcise the babe, and called him Zacharias after the name of his father.
1:60	But his mother answered, and saide, Not so, but he shalbe called Iohn.
1:61	And they saide vnto her, There is none of thy kindred, that is named with this name.
1:62	Then they made signes to his father, howe he would haue him called.
1:63	So hee asked for writing tables, and wrote, saying, His name is Iohn, and they marueiled all.
1:64	And his mouth was opened immediately, and his tongue, and he spake and praised God.
1:65	Then feare came on all them that dwelt neere vnto them, and all these woordes were noised abroade throughout all the hill countrey of Iudea.
1:66	And al they that heard them, laid them vp in their hearts, saying, What maner childe shall this be! and the hand of the Lord was with him.
1:67	Then his father Zacharias was filled with the holy Ghost, and prophesied, saying,
1:68	Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, because he hath visited and redeemed his people,
1:69	And hath raised vp the horne of saluation vnto vs, in the house of his seruant Dauid,
1:70	As he spake by ye mouth of his holy Prophets, which were since the world began, saying,
1:71	That he would sende vs deliuerance from our enemies, and from the hands of all that hate vs,
1:72	That he might shewe mercie towards our fathers, and remember his holy couenant,
1:73	And the othe which he sware to our father Abraham.
1:74	Which was, that he would graunt vnto vs, that we being deliuered out of the handes of our enemies, should serue him without feare,
1:75	All the daies of our life, in holinesse and righteousnesse before him.
1:76	And thou, babe, shalt be called the Prophet of the most High: for thou shalt goe before the face of the Lord, to prepare his waies,
1:77	And to giue knowledge of saluation vnto his people, by the remission of their sinnes,
1:78	Through ye tender mercy of our God, wherby the day spring from an hie hath visited vs,
1:79	To giue light to them that sit in darknes, and in the shadow of death, and to guide our feete into the way of peace.
1:80	And the childe grewe, and waxed strong in spirit, and was in the wildernesse, til the day came that he should shewe him selfe vnto Israel.


1:1	For as moche as many have take in hand to compyle a treates of thoo thinges which are surely knowen amonge vs
1:2	even as they declared them vnto vs which from the beginnynge sawe them their selves and were ministers at the doyng:
1:3	I determined also assone as I had searched out diligently all thinges from the beginnynge that then I wolde wryte vnto the good Theophilus:
1:4	that thou myghtest knowe the certente of thoo thinges wher of thou arte informed.
1:5	There was in the dayes of Herode kynge of Iurie a certayne prest named Zacharias of ye course of Abia. And his wyfe was of ye doughters of Aaron: And her name was Elizabeth.
1:6	Booth were perfect before God and walked in all the lawes and ordinaces of the Lorde that no man coulde fynde fawte with them.
1:7	And they had no chylde because that Elizabeth was barre and booth were well stricken in age.
1:8	And it cam to passe as he executed the prestes office before god as his course came
1:9	(accordinge to the custome of the prestes office) his lot was to bourne incece.
1:10	And wet into ye teple of ye Lorde and the whoale multitude of ye people were with out in prayer whill the incense was aburnynge.
1:11	And ther appered vnto him an angell of the lorde stondinge on the ryght syde of the altare of incense.
1:12	And when Zacharias sawe him he was abasshed and feare came on him.
1:13	And the angell sayde vnto him: feare not Zachary for thy prayer is hearde: And thy wyfe Elizabeth shall beare ye a sonne and thou shalt call his name Iohn
1:14	and thou shalt have ioye and gladnes and many shall reioyce at his birth.
1:15	For he shalbe greate in the sight of the lorde and shall nether drinke wyne ner stronge drinke. And he shalbe filled with the holy goost even in his mothers wombe:
1:16	and many of the chyldren of Israel shall he tourne to their Lorde God.
1:17	And he shall goo before him in the sprete and power of Helyas to tourne the hertes of the fathers to the chyldren and the vnbelevers to the wysdom of the iuste men: to make the people redy for the Lorde.
1:18	And Zacharias sayde vnto ye angell: Wher by shall I knowe this? seinge that I am olde and my wyfe well stricken in yeares.
1:19	And the angell answered and sayde vnto him: I am Gabriell that stonde in the presens of God and am sent to speake vnto the: and to shewe the these glad tydinges.
1:20	And beholde thou shalt be domme and not able to speake vntyll the tyme that these thinges be performed because thou belevedst not my wordes which shalbe fulfilled in their season.
1:21	And the people wayted for Zacharias and mervelled that he taryed in the temple.
1:22	And whe he cam oute he could not speake vnto them. Wherby they perceaved that he had sene some vision in the temple. And he beckened vnto them and remayned speachlesse.
1:23	And it fortuned assone as ye tyme of his office was oute he departed home into his awne housse.
1:24	And after thoose dayes his wyfe Elizabeth coceaved and hyd her sylfe .v. monethes sayinge:
1:25	This wyse hath God dealte wt me in ye dayes when he loked on me to take from me the rebuke yt I suffred amonge men.
1:26	And in ye .vi. moneth ye angell Gabriel was sent fro god vnto a cite of Galile named Nazareth
1:27	to a virgin spoused to a man whose name was Ioseph of ye housse of David and ye virgins name was Mary.
1:28	And ye angell went in vnto her and sayde: Hayle full of grace ye Lorde is with ye: blessed arte thou amonge wemen.
1:29	When she sawe him she was abasshed at his sayinge: and cast in her mynde what maner of salutacion yt shuld be.
1:30	And ye angell sayde vnto her: feare not Mary: for thou hast founde grace wt god.
1:31	Loo: thou shalt coceave in thy wombe and shalt beare a sonne and shalt call his name Iesus.
1:32	He shalbe greate and shalbe called the sonne of the hyest. And ye lorde God shall geve vnto him the seate of his father David
1:33	and he shall raygne over ye housse of Iacob forever and of his kyngdome shalbe none ende.
1:34	Then sayd Mary vnto ye angell: How shall this be seinge I knowe not a man?
1:35	And ye angell answered and sayd vnto her: The holy goost shall come apon the and ye power of ye hyest shall over shaddowe ye. Therfore also yt holy thinge which shalbe borne shalbe called ye sonne of god.
1:36	And beholde thy cosen Elizabeth she hath also conceaved a sonne in her age. And this is hyr sixte moneth though she be called barren:
1:37	for wt god can nothinge be vnpossible.
1:38	And Mary sayd: beholde ye honde mayden of ye lorde be it vnto me even as thou hast sayde. And the angell departed from her.
1:39	And Mary arose in thoose dayes and went into ye mountayns wt hast into a cite of Iurie
1:40	and entred into the housse of zachary and saluted Elizabeth.
1:41	And it fortuned as Elizabeth hearde ye salutacion of Mary the babe spronge in her belly. And Elizabeth was filled with the holy goost
1:42	and cryed with a loude voyce and sayde: Blessed arte thou amonge wemen and blessed is the frute of thy wombe.
1:43	And whence hapeneth this to me that the mother of my Lorde shuld come to me?
1:44	For loo assone as the voyce of thy salutacion sownded in myne eares the babe sprange in my belly for ioye.
1:45	And blessed arte thou that belevedst: for thoose thinges shalbe performed wich were tolde ye from the lorde.
1:46	And Mary sayde. My soule magnifieth the Lorde.
1:47	And my sprete reioyseth in god my savioure
1:48	For he hath loked on the povre degre of his honde mayde. Beholde now from hence forth shall all generacions call me blessed.
1:49	For he that is myghty hath done to me greate thinges and holye is his name.
1:50	And his mercy is on them that feare him thorow oute all generacions.
1:51	He sheweth strength with his arme he scattereth them that are proude in the ymaginacion of their hertes.
1:52	He putteth doune the myghty from their seates and exalteth them of lowe degre.
1:53	He filleth the hongry with good thinges: and sendeth awaye the ryche emptye.
1:54	He remenbreth mercy: and helpeth his servaunt Israel.
1:55	Even as he promised to oure fathers Abraham and to his seede for ever.
1:56	And mary aboode with hyr aboute a .iii. monethes and retourned agayne to hyr awne housse.
1:57	Elizabethes tyme was come that she shuld be delyvered and she brought forth a sonne.
1:58	And her neghboures and her cosins hearde tell how the lorde had shewed great mercy vpon her and they reioysed with her.
1:59	And it fortuned ye eyght daye: they cam to circumcise the chylde: and called his name zacharias after the name of his father.
1:60	How be it his mother answered and sayd: not so but he shalbe called Ihon.
1:61	And they sayd vnto hyr: Ther is none of thy kynne that is named wt this name.
1:62	And they made signes to his father how he wolde have him called.
1:63	And he axed for wrytynge tables and wroote saying: his name is Iohn. And they marvelled all.
1:64	And his mouthe was opened immediatly and his tonge also and he spake lawdynge God.
1:65	And feare came on all the that dwelt nye vnto them. And all these sayinges were noysed abroade throughout all ye hyll coutre of Iurie
1:66	and all they yt herde the layde them vp in their hertes saying: What maner chylde shall this be? And the honde of ye lorde was with him.
1:67	And his father zacharias was filled with the holy goost and prophisyed sayinge:
1:68	Blessed be the Lorde God of Israel for he hath visited and redemed his people.
1:69	And hath reysed vp an horne of salvacion vnto vs in the housse of his servaunt David.
1:70	Even as he promised by ye mouth of his holy prophetes which were sens ye worlde began
1:71	That we shuld be saved from oure enemies and from the hondis of all that hate vs:
1:72	To fulfill the mercy promised to oure fathers and to remember his holy covenaunt.
1:73	And to performe the oothe which he sware to oure father Adraham
1:74	for to geve vs. That we delyvered oute of ye hondes of oure enemyes myght serve him with oute feare
1:75	all the dayes of oure lyfe in suche holynes and ryghtewesnes that are accept before him.
1:76	And thou chylde shalt be called the Prophet of the hyest: for thou shalt goo before the face of the lorde to prepare his wayes:
1:77	And to geve knowlege of salvacion vnto his people for the remission of synnes:
1:78	Through the tender mercy of oure God wherby the daye springe from an hye hath visited vs.
1:79	To geve light to the that sate in darcknes and in shadowe of deth and to gyde oure fete into the waye of peace.
1:80	And the chylde grew and wexed stronge in sprete and was in wyldernes tyll the daye cam when he shuld shewe him sylfe vnto the Israhelites.
