2:1And it was don in tho daies, a maundement wente out fro the emperour August, that al the world schulde be discryued.
2:2This firste discryuyng was maad of Cyryn, iustice of Sirie.
2:3And alle men wenten to make professioun, ech in to his owne citee.
2:4And Joseph wente vp fro Galilee, fro the citee Nazareth, in to Judee, in to a citee of Dauid, that is clepid Bethleem, for that he was of the hous and of the meyne of Dauid,
2:5that he schulde knouleche with Marie, his wijf, that was weddid to hym, and was greet with child.
2:6And it was don, while thei weren there, the daies weren fulfillid, that sche schulde bere child.
2:7And sche bare hir first borun sone, and wlappide hym in clothis, and leide hym in a cratche, for ther was no place to hym in no chaumbir.
2:8And scheepherdis weren in the same cuntre, wakynge and kepynge the watchis of the nyyt on her flok.
2:9And lo! the aungel of the Lord stood bisidis hem, and the cleernesse of God schinede aboute hem; and thei dredden with greet drede.
2:10And the aungel seide to hem, Nyle ye drede; for lo! Y preche to you a greet ioye, that schal be to al puple.
2:11For a sauyoure is borun to dai to you, that is Crist the Lord, in the citee of Dauid.
2:12And this is a tokene to you; ye schulen fynde a yong child wlappid in clothis, and leid in a cratche.
2:13And sudenli ther was maad with the aungel a multitude of heuenli knyythod, heriynge God,
2:14and seiynge, Glorie be in the hiyeste thingis to God, and in erthe pees be to men of good wille.
2:15And it was don, as the `aungelis passiden awei fro hem in to heuene, the scheephirdis spaken togider, and seiden, Go we ouer to Bethleem, and se we this word that is maad, which the Lord hath `maad, and schewide to vs.
2:16And thei hiyynge camen, and founden Marie and Joseph, and the yong child leid in a cratche.
2:17And thei seynge, knewen of the word that was seid to hem of this child.
2:18And alle men that herden wondriden, and of these thingis that weren seid to hem of the scheephirdis.
2:19But Marie kepte alle these wordis, berynge togider in hir herte.
2:20And the scheepherdis turneden ayen, glorifyinge and heriynge God in alle thingis that thei hadden herd and seyn, as it was seid to hem.
2:21And aftir that the eiyte daies weren endid, that the child schulde be circumcided, his name was clepid Jhesus, which was clepid of the aungel, bifor that he was conceyued in the wombe.
2:22And aftir that the daies of the purgacioun of Marie weren fulfillid, aftir Moyses lawe, thei token hym into Jerusalem, to offre hym to the Lord, as it is writun in the lawe of the Lord,
2:23For euery male kynde openynge the wombe, schal be clepid holi to the Lord; and that thei schulen yyue an offryng,
2:24aftir that it is seid in the lawe of the Lord, A peire of turturis, or twei culuer briddis.
2:25And lo! a man was in Jerusalem, whos name was Symeon; and this man was iust and vertuous, and aboode the coumfort of Israel; and the Hooli Goost was in hym.
2:26And he hadde takun an answere of the Hooli Goost, that he schulde not se deeth, but he sawy first the Crist of the Lord.
2:27And he cam in spirit into the temple. And whanne his fadir and modir ledden the child Jhesu to do aftir the custom of the lawe for hym,
2:28he took hym in to hise armes, and he blesside God,
2:29and seide, Lord, now thou leuyst thi seruaunt aftir thi word in pees;
2:30for myn iyen han seyn thin helthe,
2:31which thou hast maad redi bifor the face of alle puplis;
2:32liyt to the schewyng of hethene men, and glorie of thi puple Israel.
2:33And his fadir and his modir weren wondrynge on these thingis, that weren seid of hym.
2:34And Symeon blesside hem, and seide to Marie, his modir, Lo! this is set in to the fallyng doun and in to the risyng ayen of many men in Israel, and in to a tokene, to whom it schal be ayenseid.
2:35And a swerd schal passe thorou thin owne soule, that the thouytis ben schewid of many hertis.
2:36And Anna was a prophetesse, the douytir of Fanuel, of the lynage of Aser. And sche hadde goon forth in many daies, and hadde lyued with hir hosebonde seuene yeer fro hir maydynhode.
2:37And this was a widewe to foure scoor yeer and foure; and sche departide not fro the temple, but seruyde to God nyyt and dai in fastyngis and preieris.
2:38And this cam vpon hem in thilk our, and knoulechide to the Lord, and spak of hym to alle that abiden the redempcioun of Israel.
2:39And as thei hadden ful don alle thingis, aftir the lawe of the Lord, thei turneden ayen in to Galilee, in to her citee Nazareth.
2:40And the child wexe, and was coumfortid, ful of wisdom; and the grace of God was in hym.
2:41And his fadir and modir wenten ech yeer in to Jerusalem, in the solempne dai of pask.
2:42And whanne Jhesus was twelue yeer oold, thei wenten vp to Jerusalem, aftir the custom of the feeste dai.
2:43And whanne the daies weren don, thei turneden ayen; and the child abood in Jerusalem, and his fadir and modir knewen it not.
2:44For thei gessynge that he hadde be in the felowschip, camen a daies iourney, and souyten hym among hise cosyns and hise knouleche.
2:45And whanne thei founden hym not, thei turneden ayen in to Jerusalem, and souyten hym.
2:46And it bifelle, that aftir the thridde dai thei founden hym in the temple, sittynge in the myddil of the doctours, herynge hem and axynge hem.
2:47And alle men that herden hym, wondriden on the prudence and the answeris of hym.
2:48And thei seyn, and wondriden. And his modir seide to hym, Sone, what hast thou do to vs thus? Lo! thi fadir and Y sorewynge han souyte thee.
2:49And he seide to hem, What is it that ye souyten me? wisten ye not that in tho thingis that ben of my fadir, it behoueth me to be?
2:50And thei vndurstoden not the word, which he spak to hem.
2:51And he cam doun with hem, and cam to Nazareth, and was suget to hem. And his moder kepte togidir alle these wordis, and bare hem in hir herte.
2:52And Jhesus profitide in wisdom, age, and grace, anentis God and men.

 

2:1And it chaunced in thoose dayes: yt ther went oute a comaundment from Auguste the Emperour that all the woorlde shuld be taxed.
2:2And this taxynge was ye fyrst and executed when Syrenius was leftenaut in Syria.
2:3And every man went vnto his awne citie to be taxed.
2:4And Ioseph also ascended from Galile oute of a cite called Nazareth into Iurie: vnto ye cite of David which is called Bethleem because he was of the housse and linage of David
2:5to be taxed with Mary his spoused wyfe which was with chylde.
2:6And it fortuned whyll they were there her tyme was come that she shuld be delyvered.
2:7And she brought forth her fyrst begotten sonne and wrapped him in swadlynge cloothes and layed him in a manger because ther was no roume for them within in the ynne.
2:8And ther were in the same region shepherdes abydinge in the felde and watching their flocke by nyght.
2:9And loo: the angell of ye lorde stode harde by the and the brightnes of ye lorde shone rounde aboute them and they were soare afrayed.
2:10But the angell sayd vnto them: Be not afrayed. For beholde I bringe you tydinges of greate ioye yt shal come to all ye people:
2:11for vnto you is borne this daye in the cite of David a saveoure which is Christ ye lorde.
2:12And take this for a signe: ye hall fynde ye chylde swadled and layed in a mager.
2:13And streight waye ther was with the angell a multitude of hevenly sowdiers laudynge God and sayinge:
2:14Glory to God an hye and peace on the erth: and vnto men reioysynge.
2:15And it fortuned assone as the angels were gone awaye fro them in to heven the shepherdes sayd one to another: let vs goo eve vnto Bethleem and se this thynge that is hapened which the Lorde hath shewed vnto vs.
2:16And they cam with haste and founde Mary and Ioseph and the babe layde in a mager.
2:17And when they had sene it they publisshed a brode the sayinge which was tolde them of that chylde.
2:18And all that hearde it wondred at those thinges which were tolde the of the shepherdes.
2:19But Mary kept all thoose sayinges and pondered them in hyr hert.
2:20And the shepherdes retourned praysinge and laudinge God for all that they had herde and sene evyn as it was told vnto them.
2:21And when ye eyght daye was come yt the chylde shuld be circucised his name was called Iesus which was named of the angell before he was conceaved in the wombe.
2:22And when the tyme of their purificacio (after the lawe of Moyses) was come they brought him to Hierusalem to present hym to ye Lorde
2:23(as yt is written in the lawe of the Lorde: every man that fyrst openeth the matrix shalbe called holy to the Lorde)
2:24and to offer (as it ys sayde in the lawe of the Lorde) a payre of turtle doves or two yonge pigions.
2:25And beholde ther was a ma in Hierusalem whose name was Simeon. And the same ma was iuste and feared God and longed for the consolacion of Israel and the holy goost was in him.
2:26And an answer was geven him of the holy goost that he shulde not se deethe before he had sene the lordes Christ.
2:27And he came by inspiracion into the temple. And when the father and mother brought in the chylde Iesus to do for him after the custome of the lawe
2:28then toke he him vp in his armes and sayde.
2:29Lorde Now lettest thou thy seruaut departe in peace accordinge to thy promes.
2:30For myne eyes have sene ye saveour sent fro ye
2:31Wich thou hast prepared before the face of all people.
2:32A light to lighten the gentyls and the glory of thy people Israel.
2:33And his father and mother mervelled at those thinges which were spoke of him.
2:34And Simeon blessed them and sayde vnto Mary his mother: beholde this chyld shalbe the fall and resurreccio of many in Israel and a signe which shalbe spoke agaynste.
2:35And morover the swearde shall pearce thy soule yt the thoughtes of many hertes maye be opened.
2:36And ther was a Prophetesse one Anna the doughter of Phanuel of the tribe of Aser: which was of a greate age and had lyved with an husbande. vii. yeres from her virginite.
2:37And she had bene a wedowe aboute .iiii. scoore and .iiii. yere which went never oute of the temple but served God with fastinge and prayer nyght and daye.
2:38And the same came forth that same houre and praysed the Lorde and spake of him to all that loked for redempcion in Hierusalem.
2:39And assone as they had performed all thinges accordinge to the lawe of the Lorde they returned into Galile to their awne cite Nazareth.
2:40And the chylde grewe and wexed stronde in sprete and was filled with wysdome and the grace of God was with hym.
2:41And his father and mother went to Hierusalem every yeare at the feeste of ester.
2:42And when he was .xii. yere olde they went vp to Hierusalem after the custome of the feeste.
2:43And when they had fulfilled the dayes as they returned home the chylde Iesus boode styll in Hierusalem vnknowynge to his father and mother.
2:44For they supposed he had bene in the copany and therfore came a days iorney and sought him amoge their kynsfolke and acquayntaunce.
2:45And when they founde hym not they went backe agayne to Hierusalem and sought him.
2:46And it fortuned after .iii. dayes that they founde him in the teple sittinge in the middes of the doctours both hearynge them and posinge them.
2:47And all that hearde him mervelled at his wit and answers.
2:48And when they sawe him they were astonyed. And his mother sayde vnto him: sonne why hast thou thus dealte with vs? Beholde thy father and I have sought the sorowenge.
2:49And he sayde vnto the: how is it yt ye sought me? Wist ye not that I must goo aboute my fathers busines?
2:50And they vnderstode not ye sayinge that he spake to them.
2:51And he went with them and came to Nazareth and was obedient to the. But his mother kept all these thinges in her hert.
2:52And Iesus increased in wisdom and age and in favoure with god and man.

2:6And it fortuned whyle they were there, ye tyme was come, that she shulde be delyuered.
2:7And she brought forth hir first begotte sonne, & wrapped him in swadlinge clothes, and layed him in a maunger: for they had els no rowme in the ynne.
2:8And there were in ye same region shepherdes in the felde by the foldes, and watchinge their flocke by night.
2:9And beholde, ye angell of the LORDE stode by the, and ye brightnes of the LORDE shone rounde aboute them, and they were sore afrayed.
2:10And the angell sayde vnto them: Be not afrayed. Beholde, I brynge you tydiges of greate ioye, which shall happen vnto all people:
2:11for vnto you this daye is borne ye Sauioure, eue Christ ye LORDE, in the cite of Dauid.
2:12And take this for a token: Ye shal fynde the babe swadled, and layed in a maunger.

2:15And it fortuned wha the angels were gone from the in to heaue, the shepherdes sayde one to another: let vs go now euen vnto Bethleem, and se this thinge that is happened, which ye LORDE hath shewed vnto vs.
2:16And they came wt haist, & founde both Mary and Ioseph, & the babe layed in ye maunger.
2:17And whan they had sene it, they published abrode the sayenge, yt was tolde the of this childe.
2:18And all they that herde it, wondred at the wordes, which the shepherdes had tolde them.
2:19But Mary kepte all these sayenges, and pondred them in hir hert.
2:20And the shepherdes returned, praysinge and laudinge God, for all that they had herde and sene, euen as it was tolde them.
2:21And whan eight dayes were ended, that the childe shulde be circumcysed, his name was called Iesus, which was named of ye angell, before he was conceaued in his mothers wombe.
2:22And wha the dayes of their purificacion after the lawe of Moses, were come, they brought him to Ierusale, that they might present him vnto the LORDE
2:23(As it is wrytten in the lawe of the LORDE: Euery machilde that first openeth the Matrix, shalbe called holy vnto ye LORDE)
2:24and that they might geue the offerynge, as it is wrytte in the lawe of the LORDE (namely) a payre of turtle doues, or two yonge pigeons.
2:25And beholde, there was a man (at Ierusale) whose name was Symeon, and the same ma was iust, and feared God, and loged for the consolacion of Israel, and the holy goost was in him.
2:26And an answere was geue him of the holy goost, that he shulde not se death, before he had sene ye LORDES Christ.

2:33And his father and mother marueyled at the thinges that were spoke of him.
2:34And Symeon blessed them, and sayde vnto Mary his mother: Beholde, this (childe) shalbe set to a fall, and to an vprysinge agayne of many in Israel, and for a token, which shalbe spoke agaynst.

2:37& had now bene a wedowe aboute foure score & foure yeares, which came neuer fro the teple, seruynge God wt fastynge and prayenge, daye and night:
2:38the same came forth also the same houre, and praysed the LORDE, and spake of him vnto all that loked for the redempcion at Ierusalem.
2:39And whan they had perfourmed all acordinge to the lawe of the LORDE, thy returned i to Galile, to their owne cite Nazareth.
2:40And the childe grewe, and wexed stronge in sprete, full of wyssdome, & the grace of God was with him.
2:41And his elders wente to Ierusalem euery yeare at the feast of Easter.
2:42And whan he was twolue yeare olde, they wente vp to Ierusalem, after the custome of the feast.
2:43And whan they had fulfilled the dayes, and were gone home agayne, the childe Iesus abode styll at Ierusalem.And his elders knewe it not,
2:44but thought he had bene in the company, and they came a dayes iourney, and sought hi amoge their kynss folkes & acquataunce.
2:45And wha they founde him not, they wete agayne to Ierusale, and sought him.
2:46And it fortuned after thre dayes, yt they founde him in the temple, syttinge amonge the teachers, hearynge the, and opposynge them.
2:47And all they that herde him, wodred at his vnderstondynge and answeres.
2:48And whan they sawe him, they were astonnyed. And his mother sayde vnto him: My sonne, why hast thou done this vnto vs? Beholde, thy father and I haue sought the sorowynge.
2:49And he sayde vnto them: What is it, that ye haue sought me? Wyst ye not, yt I must go aboute my fathers busynes?
2:50And they vnderstode not the sayenge yt he spake vnto them.
2:51And he wente downe with the, and came to Nazareth, and was obediet vnto them. And his mother kepte all these wordes in hir hert.
2:52And Iesus increased in wyssdome, age and fauoure with God and men.
