3:1	Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judea, Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, his brother Philip tetrarch of Ituraea and of the region of Trachonitis, and Lysanias the tetrarch of Abilene,
3:2	Annas and Caiaphas being the high priests, the word of God came to John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness.
3:3	And he went into all the region around Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the remission of sins,
3:4	as it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet, saying: "The voice of one shouting in the wilderness: 'Prepare the way of the LORD; make His paths straight.
3:5	Every valley will be filled and every mountain and hill will be brought low; and the crooked place will be made straight and the rough ways will be made smooth;
3:6	And all flesh will see the salvation of God.'"
3:7	Then he said to the crowds that came out to be baptized by him, "O generation of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
3:8	Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance, and do not begin to say within yourselves, 'We have Abraham as our father.' Because I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones.
3:9	And even now the axe is laid to the root of the trees. Therefore every tree which does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire."
3:10	So the people asked him, saying, "What shall we do then?"
3:11	He answered and said to them, "He who has two coats, let him give to him who has none; and he who has food, let him do likewise."
3:12	Then tax collectors also came to be baptized, and said to him, "Teacher, what shall we do?"
3:13	And he said to them, "Collect no more than that which is appointed to you."
3:14	Likewise the soldiers demanded of him, saying, "And what shall we do?" So he said to them, "Do not be violent to anyone, nor accuse anyone falsely, and be content with your wages."
3:15	Now as the people were in expectation, and everyone reasoned in their hearts about John, whether he was the Christ or not,
3:16	John responded, saying to them all, "I indeed baptize you with water; but One mightier than I is coming, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.
3:17	His winnowing fan is in His hand and He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, and gather His wheat into His storehouse; but the chaff He will burn with unquenchable fire."
3:18	And with many other things in His exhortation he preached to the people.
3:19	But Herod the tetrarch, being rebuked by him concerning Herodias, his brother Philip's wife, and for all the evils which Herod had done,
3:20	also added this, above all, that he shut up John in prison.
3:21	Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass that Jesus was baptized also; and while praying, the heaven was opened.
3:22	And the Holy Spirit descended in bodily form like a dove upon Him, and a voice came from heaven which said, "You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased."
3:23	So Jesus Himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, who was the son of Heli,
3:24	who was the son of Matthat, who was the son of Levi, who was the son of Melchi, who was the son of Janna, who was the son of Joseph,
3:25	who was the son of Mattathiah, who was the son of Amos, who was the son of Nahum, who was the son of Esli, who was the son of Naggai,
3:26	who was the son of Maath, who was the son of Mattathiah, who was the son of Semei, who was the son of Joseph, who was the son of Judah,

3:2	(When Annas and Caiaphas were the hie Priestes) the worde of God came vnto Iohn, the sonne of Zacharias in the wildernes.
3:3	And hee came into all the coastes about Iordan, preaching the baptisme of repentance for the remission of sinnes,
3:4	As it is written in the booke of the sayings of Esaias the Prophet, which saith, The voyce of him that crieth in the wildernes is, Prepare ye the way of the Lord: make his paths straight.
3:5	Euery valley shalbe filled, and euery mountaine and hill shall be brought lowe, and crooked things shalbe made straight, and the rough wayes shalbe made smoothe.
3:6	And all flesh shall see the saluation of God.
3:7	Then said he to the people that were come out to be baptized of him, O generations of vipers, who hath forewarned you to flee from the wrath to come?
3:8	Bring foorth therefore fruites worthy amendment of life, and beginne not to say with your selues, We haue Abraham to our father: for I say vnto you, that God is able of these stones to raise vp children vnto Abraham.
3:9	Nowe also is the axe layed vnto the roote of the trees: therefore euery tree which bringeth not foorth good fruite, shalbe hewen downe, and cast into the fire.
3:10	Then the people asked him, saying, What shall we doe then?
3:11	And he answered, and said vnto them, He that hath two coates, let him part with him that hath none: and hee that hath meate, let him doe likewise.
3:12	Then came there Publicanes also to bee baptized, and saide vnto him, Master, what shall we doe?
3:13	And hee saide vnto them, Require no more then that which is appointed vnto you.
3:14	The souldiers likewise demaunded of him, saying, And what shall we doe? And he saide vnto them, Doe violence to no man, neither accuse any falsely, and be content with your wages.
3:15	As the people waited, and all men mused in their heartes of Iohn, if he were not that Christ,
3:16	Iohn answered, and saide to them all, In deede I baptize you with water, but one stronger then I, commeth, whose shoes latchet I am not worthy to vnloose: hee will baptize you with the holy Ghost, and with fire.
3:17	Whose fanne is in his hande, and hee will make cleane his floore, and will gather the wheate into his garner, but the chaffe will hee burne vp with fire that neuer shalbe quenched.
3:18	Thus then exhorting with many other things, he preached vnto the people.
3:19	But when Herod the Tetrarch was rebuked of him, for Herodias his brother Philips wife, and for all the euils which Herod had done,
3:20	He added yet this aboue all, that he shut vp Iohn in prison.
3:21	Nowe it came to passe, as all the people were baptized, and that Iesus was baptized and did pray, that the heauen was opened:
3:22	And the holy Ghost came downe in a bodily shape like a doue, vpon him, and there was a voyce from heauen, saying, Thou art my beloued Sonne: in thee I am well pleased.
3:23	And Iesus himselfe began to bee about thirtie yeere of age, being as men supposed the sonne of Ioseph, which was the sonne of Eli,
3:24	The sonne of Matthat, the sonne of Leui, the sonne of Melchi, the sonne of Ianna, the sonne of Ioseph,
3:25	The sonne of Mattathias, the sonne of Amos, the sonne of Naum, the sonne of Esli, the sonne of Nagge,
3:26	The sonne of Maath, the sonne of Mattathias, the sonne of Semei, the sonne of Ioseph, the sonne of Iuda,

3:2	when Anna and Cayphas were the hye prestes: the worde of God came vnto Iohn ye sonne of zacharias in the wildernes.
3:3	And he came in to all the coostes aboute Iordan preachynge the baptyme of repentaunce for the remission of synnes
3:4	at it is written in the boke of the sayinges of Esaias ye Prophet which sayeth: The voyce of a cryar in wyldernes prepare the waye of the Lorde make hys pathes strayght.
3:5	Every valley shalbe fylled and every moutayne and hyll shalbe brought lowe. And crocked thinges shalbe made streight: and the rough wayes shalbe made smoth:
3:6	and all flesshe shall se the saveour sent of God.
3:7	Then sayde he to the people that were come to be baptysed of him: O generacion of vipers who hath taught you to flye from the wrath to come?
3:8	Bringe forth due frutes of repentaunce and begynne not to saye in youre selves we have Abraham to oure father. For I saye vnto you: God is able of these stones to reyse vp chyldren vnto Abraham.
3:9	Now also ys the axe leyd vnto the rote of the trees: so yt every tree which bringeth not forth good frute shalbe hewe doune and caste in to ye fyre.
3:10	And the people axed him sayinge: What shall we do then?
3:11	He answered and sayde vnto them: He that hath two coottes let him parte with him that hath none: and he that hath meate let him do lyke wyse.
3:12	Then came ther Publicans to be baptised and sayde vnto him: Master what shall we do?
3:13	And he sayde vnto the: requyre no more then that which ys appoynted vnto you.
3:14	The soudyoures lyke wyse demaunded of hym sayinge: and what shall we do? And he sayde to them: Do violence to noo ma: nether trouble eny man wrongfully: but be content with youre wages.
3:15	As the people were in a doute and all men disputed in their hertes of Iohn whether he were very Christ:
3:16	Ihon answered and sayde to them all: I baptyse you wt water but a stronger then I cometh after me whose shue latchet I am not worthy to vnlouse: he will baptise you with the holy goost and with fyre:
3:17	which hath his fanne in his hond and will pourge his floore and will gader the corne into his barne: but the chaffe wyll he bourne with fyre that never shalbe quenched.
3:18	And many other thinges in his exhortacion preached he vnto the people.
3:19	Then Herode the Tetrach (when he was rebuked of him for Herodias his brother Philippes wyfe and for all the evyls which Herod had done)
3:20	added this above all and leyd Iohn in preson.
3:21	And yt fortuned as all the people receaved baptyme (and when Iesus was baptised and dyd praye) that heave was opened
3:22	and the holy goost came doune in a bodely shape lyke a dove vpo him and a voyce came fro heve sayinge: Thou arte my dere sonne in the do I delyte.
3:23	And Iesus him silfe was about thirty yere of age when he begane beinge as men supposed the sonne of Ioseph. which Ioseph was the sonne of Heli
3:24	which was the sonne of Mathat which was the sonne of Levi: which was the sonne of Melchi: which was the sonne of Ianna: which was the sonne of Ioseph:
