Luke - Chapter: 9

>
9:1Then he called his twelue disciples together, and gaue them power and authority ouer all deuils, and to cure diseases.
9:2And hee sent them to preach the Kingdome of God, and to heale the sicke.
9:3And he said vnto them, Take nothing for your iourney, neither staues, nor scrip, neither bread, neither money, neither haue two coates apeece.
9:4And whatsoeuer house yee enter into, there abide, and thence depart.
9:5And whosoeuer will not receiue you, when ye goe out of that city, shake off the very dust from your feete, for a testimonie against them.
9:6And they departed, and went through the townes, preaching the Gospel, and healing euery where.
9:7Now Herode the Tetrarch heard of all that was done by him: and hee was perplexed, because that it was said of some, that Iohn was risen from the dead:
9:8And of some, that Elias had appeared: and of others, that one of the olde Prophets was risen againe.
9:9And Herode said, Iohn haue I beheaded: but who is this of whom I heare such things? And hee desired to see him.
9:10And the Apostles when they were returned, tolde him all that they had done. And hee tooke them, and went aside priuately into a desert place, belonging to the citie called Bethsaida.
9:11And the people when they knew it, followed him, and he receiued them, and spake vnto them of the kingdome of God, and healed them that had need of healing.
9:12And when the day beganne to weare away, then came the twelue, and said vnto him, Send the multitude away, that they may go into the townes and countrey round about, and lodge, and get victuals: for we are here in a desert place.
9:13But he said vnto them, Giue yee them to eate. And they said, Wee haue no more but fiue loaues and two fishes, except we should goe and buy meate for all this people.
9:14For they were about fiue thousand men. And he said to his disciples, Make them sit downe by fifties in a company.
9:15And they did so, and made them all sit downe.
9:16Then he tooke the fiue loaues and the two fishes, and looking vp to heauen, hee blessed them, and brake, and gaue to the disciples to set before the multitude.
9:17And they did eate, and were all filled. And there was taken vp of fragments that remained to them, twelue baskets.
9:18And it came to passe, as he was alone praying, his disciples were with him: and he asked them, saying, Whom say the people that I am?
9:19They answering, said, Iohn the Baptist: but some say, Elias: and others say, that one of the old Prophets is risen againe.
9:20He said vnto them, But whom say yee that I am? Peter answering, said, The Christ of God.
9:21And he straitly charged them, and commanded them to tell no man that thing,
9:22Saying, The Sonne of man must suffer many things, and be reiected of the Elders, and chiefe Priests, and Scribes, and be slaine, and be raised the third day.
9:23And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him denie himselfe, and take vp his crosse daily, and follow me.
9:24For whosoeuer will saue his life, shall lose it: but whosoeuer will lose his life for my sake, the same shall saue it.
9:25For what is a man aduantaged, if hee gaine the whole world, and lose himselfe, or be cast away?
9:26For whosoeuer shall bee ashamed of me, and of my wordes, of him shall the Sonne of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his owne glory, and in his Fathers, and of the holy Angels.
9:27But I tell you of a trueth, there be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the kingdome of God.
9:28And it came to passe, about an eight dayes after these sayings, hee tooke Peter, and Iohn, and Iames, and went vp into a mountaine to pray:
9:29And as hee prayed, the fashion of his countenance was altered, and his raiment was white and glistering.
9:30And behold, there talked with him two men, which were Moses and Elias,
9:31Who appeared in glory, and spake of his decease, which he should accomplish at Hierusalem.
9:32But Peter, and they that were with him, were heauie with sleepe: and when they were awake, they saw his glory, and the two men that stood with him.
9:33And it came to passe, as they departed from him, Peter said vnto Iesus, Master, it is good for vs to be here, and let vs make three tabernacles, one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias: not knowing what he said.
9:34While he thus spake, there came a cloud, and ouershadowed them, & they feared, as they entred into the cloude.
9:35And there came a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloued Son, heare him.
9:36And when the voyce was past, Iesus was found alone, and they kept it close, & told no man in those dayes any of those things which they had seene.
9:37And it came to passe, that on the next day, when they were come downe from the hill, much people met him.
9:38And behold, a man of the companie cried out, saying, Master, I beseech thee looke vpon my sonne, for he is mine onely child.
9:39And loe, a spirit taketh him, and hee suddenly crieth out, and it teareth him that he fometh againe, and bruising him, hardly departeth from him.
9:40And I besought thy disciples to cast him out, and they could not.
9:41And Iesus answering, said, O faithlesse, and peruerse generation, how long shal I be with you, and suffer you? bring thy sonne hither.
9:42And as he was yet a comming, the deuill threw him downe, and tare him: and Iesus rebuked the vncleane spirit, and healed the child, and deliuered him againe to his father.
9:43And they were al amazed at the mightie power of God: But while they wondred euery one at all things which Iesus did, he said vnto his disciples,
9:44Let these sayings sinke downe into your eares: for the Sonne of man shall bee deliuered into the handes of men.
9:45But they vnderstood not this saying, and it was hid from them, that they perceiued it not: and they feared to aske him of that saying.
9:46Then there arose a reasoning among them, which of them should be greatest.
9:47And Iesus perceiuing ye thought of their heart, tooke a child, and set him by him,
9:48And said vnto them, Whosoeuer shall receiue this child in my Name, receiueth me: and whosoeuer shal receiue me, receiueth him that sent me: For hee that is least among you all, the same shalbe great.
9:49And Iohn answered, and said, Master, we saw one casting out deuils in thy Name, and we forbade him, because he followeth not with vs.
9:50And Iesus said vnto him, Forbid him not: for he that is not against vs, is for vs.
9:51And it came to passe, when the time was come that he should bee receiued vp, he stedfastly set his face to goe to Hierusalem,
9:52And sent messengers before his face, and they went and entred into a village of the Samaritanes to make ready for him.
9:53And they did not receiue him, because his face was as though he would goe to Hierusalem.
9:54And when his disciples, Iames and Iohn sawe this, they said, Lord, wilt thou that wee command fire to come downe from heauen, and consume them, euen as Elias did?
9:55But he turned, and rebuked them, and said, Ye know not what maner spirit ye are of.
9:56For the Sonne of man is not come to destroy mens liues, but to saue them. And they went to another village.
9:57And it came to passe that as they went in the way, a certaine man said vnto him, Lord, I wil follow thee whithersoeuer thou goest.
9:58And Iesus said vnto him, Foxes haue holes, and birds of the aire haue nests, but the Sonne of man hath not where to lay his head.
9:59And he said vnto another, Follow me: But he said, Lord, suffer mee first to goe and bury my father.
9:60Iesus said vnto him, Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdome of God.
9:61And another also said, Lord, I will follow thee: but let me first goe bid them farewel, which are at home at my house.
9:62And Iesus said vnto him, No man hauing put his hand to the plough, and looking backe, is fit for the kingdome of God.

9:1Then called hee his twelue disciples together, and gaue them power and authoritie ouer all deuils, and to heale diseases.
9:2And hee sent them foorth to preach the kingdome of God, and to cure the sicke.
9:3And he sayd to them, Take nothing to your iourney, neither staues, nor scrip, neither bread, nor siluer, neither haue two coates apiece.
9:4And whatsoeuer house ye enter into, there abide, and thence depart.
9:5And howe many so euer will not receiue you, when ye goe out of that citie, shake off the very dust from your feete for a testimonie against them.
9:6And they went out, and went through euery towne preaching the Gospel, and healing euery where.
9:7Nowe Herod the Tetrarch heard of all that was done by him: and he douted, because that it was sayd of some, that Iohn was risen againe from the dead:
9:8And of some, that Elias had appeared: and of some, that one of the olde Prophets was risen againe.
9:9Then Herod sayd, Iohn haue I beheaded: who then is this of whome I heare such things? and he desired to see him.
9:10And when the Apostles returned, they tolde him what great things they had done. Then he tooke them to him, and went aside into a solitarie place, neere to the citie called Bethsaida.
9:11But when the people knewe it, they followed him: and he receiued them, and spake vnto them of the kingdome of God, and healed them that had neede to be healed.
9:12And when the day began to weare away, the twelue came, and sayd vnto him, Sende the people away, that they may goe into the townes and villages round about, and lodge, and get meate: for we are here in a desart place.
9:13But he sayd vnto them, Giue ye them to eate. And they sayd, We haue no more but fiue loaues and two fishes, except we should go and buy meate for all this people.
9:14For they were about fiue thousand men. Then he sayde to his disciples, Cause them to sit downe by fifties in a company.
9:15And they did so, and caused all to sit downe.
9:16Then he tooke the fiue loaues, and the two fishes, and looked vp to heauen, and blessed them, and brake, and gaue to the disciples, to set before the people.
9:17So they did all eate, and were satisfied: and there was taken vp of that remained to them, twelue baskets full of broken meate.
9:18And it came to passe, as hee was alone praying, his disciples were with him: and he asked them, saying, Whom say the people that I am?
9:19They answered, and sayd, Iohn Baptist: and others say, Elias: and some say, that one of the olde Prophets is risen againe.
9:20And he sayd vnto them, But whom say ye that I am? Peter answered, and sayd, That Christ of God.
9:21And he warned and commanded them, that they should tell that to no man,
9:22Saying, The Sonne of man must suffer many things and be reproued of the Elders, and of the hie Priests and Scribes, and be slaine, and the third day rise againe.
9:23And he sayd to them all, If any man will come after me, let him denie himselfe, and take vp his crosse dayly, and follow me.
9:24For whosoeuer will saue his life, shall lose it: and whosoeuer shall lose his life for my sake, the same shall saue it.
9:25For what auantageth it a man, if he win the whole worlde, and destroy himselfe, or lose himselfe?
9:26For whosoeuer shall be ashamed of me, and of my wordes, of him shall the Sonne of man be ashamed, when hee shall come in his glorie, and in the glorie of the Father, and of the holy Angels.
9:27And I tell you of a suretie, there be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they haue seene the kingdome of God.
9:28And it came to passe about an eyght dayes after those wordes, that he tooke Peter and Iohn, and Iames, and went vp into a mountaine to pray.
9:29And as he prayed, the fashion of his countenance was changed, and his garment was white and glistered.
9:30And beholde, two men talked with him, which were Moses and Elias:
9:31Which appeared in glory, and tolde of his departing, which he shoulde accomplish at Hierusalem.
9:32But Peter and they that were with him, were heauie with sleepe, and when they awoke, they saw his glorie, and the two men standing with him.
9:33And it came to passe, as they departed from him, Peter said vnto Iesus, Master, it is good for vs to be here: let vs therefore make three tabernacles, one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias, and wist not what he said.
9:34Whiles he thus spake, there came a cloude and ouershadowed them, and they feared when they were entring into the cloude.
9:35And there came a voyce out of the cloud, saying, This is that my beloued Sonne, heare him.
9:36And when the voyce was past, Iesus was found alone: and they kept it close, and tolde no man in those dayes any of those things which they had seene.
9:37And it came to passe on the next day, as they came downe from the mountaine, much people met him.
9:38And beholde, a man of the companie cried out, saying, Master, I beseech thee, beholde my sonne: for he is all that I haue.
9:39And loe, a spirit taketh him, and suddenly he crieth, and he teareth him, that he fometh, and hardly departeth from him, when he hath bruised him.
9:40Nowe I haue besought thy disciples to cast him out, but they could not.
9:41Then Iesus answered, and said, O generation faithlesse, and crooked, howe long now shall I be with you, and suffer you? bring thy sonne hither.
9:42And whiles he was yet comming, the deuill rent him, and tare him: and Iesus rebuked the vncleane spirite, and healed the childe, and deliuered him to his father.
9:43And they were all amased at the mightie power of God: and while they all wondered at al things, which Iesus did, he said vnto his disciples,
9:44Marke these wordes diligently: for it shall come to passe, that the Sonne of man shalbe deliuered into the handes of men.
9:45But they vnderstood not that word: for it was hid from them, so that they could not perceiue it: and they feared to aske him of that worde.
9:46Then there arose a disputation among them, which of them should be the greatest.
9:47When Iesus sawe the thoughtes of their heartes, he tooke a litle childe, and set him by him,
9:48And said vnto them, Whosoeuer receiueth this litle childe in my Name, receiueth me: and whosoeuer shall receiue me, receiueth him that sent me: for he that is least among you all, he shall be great.
9:49And Iohn answered and saide, Master, we sawe one casting out deuils in thy Name, and we forbad him, because he followeth thee not with vs.
9:50Then Iesus saide vnto him, Forbid ye him not: for he that is not against vs, is with vs.
9:51And it came to passe, when the dayes were accomplished, that he should be receiued vp, he setled himselfe fully to goe to Hierusalem,
9:52And sent messengers before him: and they went and entred into a towne of the Samaritans, to prepare him lodging.
9:53But they woulde not receiue him, because his behauiour was, as though he would go to Hierusalem.
9:54And when his disciples, Iames and Iohn sawe it, they saide, Lord, wilt thou that we commaund, that fire come downe from heauen, and consume them, euen as Elias did?
9:55But Iesus turned about, and rebuked them, and said, Ye knowe not of what spirit ye are.
9:56For the Sonne of man is not come to destroy mens liues, but to saue them. Then they went to another towne.
9:57And it came to passe that as they went in the way, a certaine man said vnto him, I will follow thee, Lord, whithersoeuer thou goest.
9:58And Iesus saide vnto him, The foxes haue holes, and the birdes of the heauen nestes, but the Sonne of man hath not whereon to lay his head.
9:59But he said vnto another, Followe me. And the same said, Lord, suffer me first to goe and burie my father.
9:60And Iesus said vnto him, Let the dead burie their dead: but go thou, and preache the kingdome of God.
9:61Then another saide, I will follow thee, Lord: but let me first go bid them farewell, which are at mine house.
9:62And Iesus saide vnto him, No man that putteth his hand to the plough, and looketh backe, is apt to the kingdome of God.

9:1Iesus called the twelue together, and gaue them power, and auctorite ouer all deuyls, and that they might heale diseases.
9:2And he sent them to preache the kyngdome of God, and to heale the syck.
9:3And he sayd vnto them: Take nothing to your iourney: nether staffe, nor scrype, nether bread, nether money, nether haue two coates.
9:4And whatsoeuer house ye enter into, there abyde, and thence departe.
9:5And whosoeuer wyll not receaue you, when ye go out of the citie, shake of the very dust from youre fete, for a testimonye agaynst them.
9:6And they departed and went thorow the tounes, preaching the gospell and healinge euery where.
9:7And Herode the Tetrarch heard of al that was done by him, & he douted, because that it was sayde of some, that Iohn was rysen agayne from death:
9:8and of some, that Helias had appeared, and of some, that one of the olde prophetes was rysen agayne.
9:9And Herode sayde: Iohn haue I beheaded: but who is this of whom I heare such thinges. And he desyred to se him.
9:10And the apostles returned: & tolde him all that they had done. And he toke them, & went asyde into a solitary place nye vnto the cytie that is called Bethsaida.
9:11Which whan the people knewe, they folowed him. And he receaued them, & spake vnto them of the kyngdome of God, & healed them that had nede to be healed.
9:12And when the daye beganne to weare awaye, then came the .xij. and sayd vnto him: send the people awaye, that they maye go into the townes and next villages & lodge, and get meate, for we are here in a place of wyldernes.
9:13But he sayd vnto them: Geue ye them to eate. And they sayd: we haue no mo but .v. loaues and two fysshes, except we shulde go and bye meate for all this people.
9:14And they were about a .v.M. men. And he sayd to his disciples: Cause them to sit downe by fyfties in a companye.
9:15And they dyd so, and made them al to syt downe.
9:16And he toke the fyue loaues and the two fisshes, and loked vp to heauen: and blessed them, and brake, and gaue to the disciples, to seet before the people.
9:17And they all dyd eat, & were satisfyed. And there was taken vp of that remayned to them, twelue baskettes full of broken meate.
9:18And it fortuned as he was alone praying, his disciples were with him, and he asked them sayeng: who saye the people that I am?
9:19They answered, and sayd: Iohn Baptist: Some saye Helias, and some saye that one of the olde prophetes is rysen.
9:20He sayd vnto them: But who saye ye that I am? Simon Peter answered, & sayde: thou art the Christ of God.
9:21And he warned and commaunded them that they shuld tell no man that thing,
9:22saying: the sonne of man must suffre many thinges, and be reproued of the elders, and of the hye prestes, and scribes, and be slayne, and ryse agayne the thyrd daye.
9:23And he sayd to them all, yf eny man will come after me, let him denye him self, & take vp his crosse dayly, & folowe me.
9:24For whosoeuer wyll saue hys lyfe shall lose it. But whosoeuer doth lose his lyfe for my sake, the same shall saue it.
9:25For what auauntageth it a man, yf he wynne the whole worlde, and lose him selfe, or runne in dammmage of hym selfe?
9:26For whoso is ashamed of me, and of my wordes, of him shall the sonne of man be ashamed, when he commeth in his maiestye, and in the maiestye of his father, and of the holy angels.
9:27I tell you of a treuth: There be some standinge here, which shall not tast of death, tyll they se the kyngdome of God.
9:28And it fortuned that about an .viij. dayes after these saienges, he toke Peter and Iohn and Iames, & went vp into a mountayne to praye.
9:29And as he prayed, the fassyon of hys countenaunce was chaunged, & his garment was whyte, & shone.
9:30And behold, there talked with him two men which were Moses and Helias,
9:31that appeared in the maiesty, & spake of his departyng, which be shulde ende at Ierusalem.
9:32But Peter and they that were with him, were heuy with slepe. And when they awoke, they sawe his maiesty, and two men standinge with him.
9:33And it chaunsed as they departed from him, Peter sayde vnto Iesus: Master, it is good beynge here for vs. Let vs make also thre tabernacles, one for the, and one for Moses, and one for Helias (and wist not what he sayd.)
9:34While he thus spake, there came a cloude and ouershadowed them, and they feared when they were come into the cloude.
9:35And there came a voyce out of the cloude saying: This is my deare sonne, heare him.
9:36And as soone as the voyce was past, Iesus was founde alone. And they kept it cloose: & tolde no man in those dayes, any of those thinges which they had sene.
9:37And it chaunsed that on the nexte daye (as they came downe from the hyll) moche people met him.
9:38And beholde, a man of the company cried oute, sayenge: Master, I beseche the behold my sonne, for he is all that I haue:
9:39and se, a sprete taketh him, and sodenly he cryeth, and tereth hym, that he fometh agayne, and with moch payne departeth from him, when he hath rent him,
9:40and I besought thy disciples to cast him out, & they coulde not,
9:41Iesus answered and sayde: O faythles, and croked nacion, howe longe shall I be with you? & shal suffre you? Bring thy sonne hither.
9:42As he was yet a comming, the fende rent him, and tare him. And Iesus rebuked the vncleane sprete, and healed the chyld, and deliuered him to his father.
9:43And they were all amased at the myghtye power of God. But whyle they wondered euery one at all thinges which he dyd, he sayde vnto hys disciples:
9:44Lett these sayinges sinke downe into your eares. For it will come to passe: that the sonne of man shalbe deliuered into the handes of men.
9:45But they wist not what the worde meant, and it was hyd from them, that they vnderstode it not. And they feared to aske him of that sayinge.
9:46And there entred a thought among them which of them shulde be the greatest.
9:47When Iesus perceaued the thought of their hertes he toke a chyld, and set him hard by hym,
9:48& sayd vnto them: Whosoeuer receaueth this child in my name, receaueth me. And whosoeuer receaueth me, receaueth him that sent me. For he that is lest among you all, the same shalbe greate.
9:49And Iohn answered, and sayde: Master. we sawe one castinge oute deuyls in thy name, and we forbade him, because he foloweth not with vs.
9:50And Iesus sayd vnto him: forbyd ye him not. For he that is not agaynst vs, is with vs.
9:51And it fortuned when the tyme was come that he shulde be receaued vp, he set hys face to go to Ierusalem,
9:52and sent messengers before him. And they went and entred into a cytie of the Samaritans, to make ready for him.
9:53And they wold not receaue him, because his face was as though he wold go to Ierusalem.
9:54When his disciples, Iames & Iohn sawe this, they sayde: Lorde, wilt thou that we commaunde fyre to come downe from heauen and consume them, euen as Helias dyd?
9:55Iesus turned about, and rebuked them, saying: ye wote not what maner spret ye are of.
9:56For the sonne of man is not come to destroye mennes lyues, but to saue them. And they went to another towne.
9:57And it chaunsed that as they were walking in the waye, a certayne man sayd vnto him. I wyll folowe the whithersoeuer thou goo.
9:58Iesus sayde vnto him: foxes haue holes, and byrdes of the ayer haue nestes: but the sonne of man hath not where to laye his head.
9:59And he sayde vnto another: folowe me. And the same sayde: Lorde, suffre me first to go and bury my father.
9:60Iesus sayde vnto him: Let the deed bury their deed: but go thou, and preach the kyngdome of God.
9:61And an other sayde: Lorde, I wyll folowe the: but let me first go byd them fare well, which are at home at my house.
9:62Iesus sayde vnto hym: No man that putteth hys handes to the plowe, and loketh backe, is apte to the kyngdome of God.
