Luke - Chapter: 11

>
11:1And it was don, whanne he was preiynge in a place, as he ceesside, oon of hise disciplis seide to hym, Lord, teche vs to preye, as Joon tauyte hise disciplis.
11:2And he seide to hem, Whanne ye preien, seie ye, Fadir, halewid be thi name. Thi kyngdom come to.
11:3Yyue `to vs to dai oure ech daies breed.
11:4And foryyue to vs oure synnes, as we foryyuen to ech man that owith to vs. And lede vs not in to temptacioun.
11:5And he seide to hem, Who of you schal haue a freend, and schal go to hym at mydnyyt, and schal seie to hym, Freend, leene to me thre looues;
11:6for my freend cometh to me fro the weie, and Y haue not what Y schal sette bifor hym.
11:7And he with ynforth answere and seie, Nyle thou be heuy to me; the dore is now schit, and my children ben with me in bed; Y may not rise, and yyue to thee.
11:8And if he schal dwelle stil knockynge, Y seie to you, thouy he schal not rise, and yyue to him, for that that he is his freend, netheles for his contynuel axyng he schal ryse, and yyue to hym, as many as he hath nede to.
11:9And Y seie to you, axe ye, and it schal be youun to you; seke ye, and ye schulen fynde; knocke ye, and it schal be openyd to you.
11:10For ech that axith, takith, and he that sekith, fyndith; and to a man that knockith, it schal be openyd.
11:11Therfor who of you axith his fadir breed, whether he schal yyue hym a stoon? or if he axith fisch, whether he schal yyue hym a serpent for the fisch?
11:12or if he axe an eye, whether he schal a reche hym a scorpioun?
11:13Therfor if ye, whanne ye ben yuel, kunnen yyue good yiftis to youre children, hou myche more youre fadir of heuene schal yyue a good spirit to men that axith him.
11:14And Jhesus was castynge out a feend, and he was doumbe. And whanne he hadde cast out the feend, the doumbe man spak; and the puple wondride.
11:15And sum of hem seiden, In Belsabub, prince of deuelis, he castith out deuelis.
11:16And othir temptinge axiden of hym a tokene fro heuene.
11:17And as he saiy the thouytis of hem, he seide to hem, Euery rewme departid ayens it silf, schal be desolat, and an hous schal falle on an hous.
11:18And if Sathanas be departid ayens hym silf, hou schal his rewme stonde? For ye seien, that Y caste out feendis in Belsabub.
11:19And if Y in Belsabub caste out fendis, in whom casten out youre sones? Therfor thei schulen be youre domesmen.
11:20But if Y caste out fendis in the fyngir of God, thanne the rewme of God is comun among you.
11:21Whanne a strong armed man kepith his hous, alle thingis that he weldith ben in pees.
11:22But if a stronger than he come vpon hym, and ouercome hym, he schal take awei al his armere, in which he tristide, and schal dele abrood his robries.
11:23He that is not with me, is ayens me; and he that gederith not togidir with me, scaterith abrood.
11:24Whanne an vnclene spirit goith out of a man, he wandrith bi drie placis, and sekith reste; and he fyndynge not, seith, Y schal turne ayen in to myn hous, fro whannes Y cam out.
11:25And whanne he cometh, he fyndith it clansid with besyms, and fayre arayed.
11:26Thanne he goith, and takith with hym seuene othere spirits worse than hym silf, and thei entren, and dwellen there. And the laste thingis of that man ben maad worse than the formere.
11:27And it was don, whanne he hadde seid these thingis, a womman of the cumpanye reride hir vois, and seide to hym, Blessid be the wombe that bare thee, and blessid be the tetis that thou hast soken.
11:28And he seide, But yhe blessid be thei, that heren the word of God, and kepen it.
11:29And whanne the puple runnen togidere, he bigan to seie, This generacioun is a weiward generacioun; it sekith a token, and a tokene schal not be youun to it, but the tokene of Jonas, the profete.
11:30For as Jonas was a tokene to men of Nynyue, so mannus sone schal be to this generacioun.
11:31The queen of the south schal rise in doom with men of this generacioun, and schal condempne hem; for sche cam fro the endis of the erthe, for to here the wisdom of Salomon, and lo! here is a gretter than Salomon.
11:32Men of Nynyue schulen rise in doom with this generacioun, and schulen condempne it; for thei diden penaunce in the prechyng of Jonas, and lo! here is a gretter than Jonas.
11:33No man tendith a lanterne, and puttith in hidils, nether vndur a buyschel, but on a candilstike, that thei that goen in, se liyt.
11:34The lanterne of thi bodi is thin iye; if thin iye be symple, al thi bodi schal be liyti; but if it be weyward, al thi bodi schal be derkful.
11:35Therfor se thou, lest the liyt that is in thee, be derknessis.
11:36Therfor if al thi bodi be briyt, and haue no part of derknessis, it schal be al briyt, and as a lanterne of briytnesse it schal yyue liyt to thee.
11:37And whanne he spak, a Farisee preiede him, that he schulde ete with hym. And he entride, and sat to the meete.
11:38And the Farisee bigan to seie, gessynge with ynne hym silf, whi he was not waschen bifor mete.
11:39And the Lord seide to hym, Now ye Farisees clensen that that is with outenforth of the cuppe and the plater; but that thing that is with ynne of you, is ful of raueyn and wickidnesse.
11:40Foolis, whether he that made that that is withoutenforth, made not also that that is with ynne?
11:41Netheles that that is ouer plus, yyue ye almes, and lo! alle thingis ben cleene to you.
11:42But wo to you, Farisees, that tithen mynte, and rue, and ech eerbe, and leeuen doom and the charite of God. For it bihofte to do these thingis, and not leeue tho.
11:43Wo to you, Farisees, that louen the firste chaieris in synagogis, and salutaciouns in chepyng.
11:44Wo to you, that ben as sepulcris, that ben not seyn, and men walkynge aboue witen not.
11:45But oon of the wise men of the lawe answeride, and seide to hym, Maystir, thou seiynge these thingis, also to vs doist dispit.
11:46And he seide, Also wo to you, wise men of lawe, for ye chargen men with birthuns which thei moun not bere, and ye you silf with youre o fyngur touchen not the heuynessis.
11:47Wo to you, that bilden toumbis of profetis; and youre fadris slowen hem.
11:48Treuli ye witnessen, that ye consenten to the werkis of youre fadris; for thei slowen hem, but ye bilden her sepulcris.
11:49Therfor the wisdom of God seide, Y schal sende to hem profetis and apostlis, and of hem thei schulen sle and pursue,
11:50that the blood of alle prophetis, that was sched fro the making of the world, be souyt of this generacioun;
11:51fro the blood of the iust Abel to the blood of Zacharie, that was slayn bitwixe the auter and the hous. So Y seie to you, it schal be souyt of this generacioun.
11:52Wo to you, wise men of the lawe, for ye han takun awei the keye of kunnyng; and ye yow silf entriden not, and ye han forbeden hem that entriden.
11:53And whanne he seide these thingis to hem, the Farisees and wise men of lawe bigunnen greuousli to ayenstonde, and stoppe his mouth of many thingis,
11:54aspiynge hym, and sekynge to take sum thing of his mouth, to accuse hym.

11:1And so it was, that as he was praying in a certaine place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said vnto him, Lord, teache vs to pray, as Iohn also taught his disciples.
11:2And he said vnto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father, which art in heauen, halowed be thy Name: Thy kingdome come: Let thy will be done, euen in earth, as it is in heauen:
11:3Our dayly bread giue vs for the day:
11:4And forgiue vs our sinnes: for euen we forgiue euery man that is indetted to vs: And leade vs not into temptation: but deliuer vs from euill.
11:5Moreouer he said vnto them, Which of you shall haue a friende, and shall goe to him at midnight, and say vnto him, Friende, lende mee three loaues?
11:6For a friende of mine is come out of the way to me, and I haue nothing to set before him:
11:7And hee within shoulde answere, and say, Trouble mee not: the doore is nowe shut, and my children are with mee in bed: I can not rise and giue them to thee.
11:8I say vnto you, Though he would not arise and giue him, because he is his friende, yet doubtlesse because of his importunitie, hee woulde rise, and giue him as many as he needed.
11:9And I say vnto you, Aske, and it shall be giuen you: seeke, and yee shall finde: knocke, and it shalbe opened vnto you.
11:10For euery one that asketh, receiueth: and he that seeketh, findeth: and to him that knocketh, it shalbe opened.
11:11If a sonne shall aske bread of any of you that is a father, will he giue him a stone? or if hee aske a fish, will he for a fish giue him a serpent?
11:12Or if hee aske an egge, will hee giue him a scorpion?
11:13If yee then which are euill, can giue good giftes vnto your children, howe much more shall your heauenly Father giue the holy Ghost to them, that desire him?
11:14Then hee cast out a deuill which was domme: and when the deuill was gone out, the domme spake, and the people wondered.
11:15But some of them said, He casteth out deuils through Beelzebub the chiefe of ye deuils.
11:16And others tempted him, seeking of him a signe from heauen.
11:17But he knew their thoughts, and said vnto them, Euery kingdom deuided against it self, shall be desolate, and an house deuided against an house, falleth.
11:18So if Satan also bee deuided against himselfe, howe shall his kingdome stande, because yee say that I cast out deuils through Beelzebub?
11:19If I through Beelzebub cast out deuils, by whome doe your children cast them out? Therefore shall they be your iudges.
11:20But if I by ye finger of God cast out deuils, doutles the kingdome of God is come vnto you.
11:21When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, the thinges that hee possesseth, are in peace.
11:22But when a stronger then hee, commeth vpon him, and ouercommeth him: hee taketh from him all his armour wherein he trusted, and deuideth his spoiles.
11:23He that is not with me, is against me: and he that gathereth not with me, scattereth.
11:24When the vncleane spirite is gone out of a man, he walketh through drie places, seeking rest: and when he findeth none he saieth, I wil returne vnto mine house whence I came out.
11:25And when he cometh, he findeth it swept and garnished.
11:26Then goeth hee, and taketh to him seuen other spirites worse then himselfe: and they enter in, and dwel there: so the last state of that man is worse then the first.
11:27And it came to passe as he sayde these thinges, a certaine woman of the companie lifted vp her voyce, and sayde vnto him, Blessed is the wombe that bare thee, and the pappes which thou hast sucked.
11:28But hee saide, Yea, rather blessed are they that heare the woorde of God, and keepe it.
11:29And when the people were gathered thicke together, he began to say, This is a wicked generation: they seeke a signe, and there shall no signe be giuen them, but the signe of Ionas the Prophet.
11:30For as Ionas was a signe to the Niniuites: so shall also the Sonne of man bee to this generation.
11:31The Queene of the South shall rise in iudgement, with the men of this generation, and shall condemne them: for shee came from the vtmost partes of the earth to heare the wisedome of Salomon, and beholde, a greater then Salomon is here.
11:32The men of Niniue shall rise in iudgement with this generation, and shall condemne it: for they repented at the preaching of Ionas: and beholde, a greater then Ionas is here.
11:33No man when he hath lighted a candle, putteth it in a priuie place, neither vnder a bushell: but on a candlesticke, that they which come in, may see the light.
11:34The light of the bodie is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, then is thy whole bodie light: but if thine eye be euill, then thy bodie is darke.
11:35Take heede therefore, that the light which is in thee, be not darkenesse.
11:36If therefore thy whole body shall be light, hauing no part darke, then shall all be light, euen as when a candle doth light thee with the brightnesse.
11:37And as hee spake, a certaine Pharise besought him to dine with him: and hee went in, and sate downe at table.
11:38And when the Pharise saw it, he marueiled that he had not first washed before dinner.
11:39And the Lord saide to him, In deede yee Pharises make cleane the outside of the cuppe, and of the platter: but the inwarde part is full of rauening and wickednesse.
11:40Ye fooles, did not he that made that which is without, make that which is within also?
11:41Therefore, giue almes of those thinges which you haue, and beholde, all thinges shall be cleane to you.
11:42But wo be to you, Pharises: for ye tithe the mynt and the rewe, and all maner herbs, and passe ouer iudgement and the loue of God: these ought yee to haue done, and not to haue left the other vndone.
11:43Wo be to you, Pharises: for ye loue the vppermost seats in the Synagogues, and greetings in the markets.
11:44Wo be to you, Scribes and Pharises, hypocrites: for ye are as graues which appeare not, and the men that walke ouer them, perceiue not.
11:45Then answered one of the Lawyers, and saide vnto him, Master, thus saying thou puttest vs to rebuke also.
11:46And he sayde, Wo be to you also, yee Lawyers: for yee lade men with burdens grieuous to be borne, and yee your selues touche not the burdens with one of your fingers.
11:47Wo be to you: for ye builde the sepulchres of the Prophetes, and your fathers killed them.
11:48Truely ye beare witnesse, and allowe the deedes of your fathers: for they killed them, and yee build their sepulchres.
11:49Therefore said the wisedome of God, I wil sende them Prophets and Apostles, and of them they shall slaie, and persecute away,
11:50That the blood of all the Prophets, shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation,
11:51From the blood of Abel vnto the blood of Zacharias, which was slaine betweene the altar and the Temple: verely I say vnto you, it shall be required of this generation.
11:52Wo be to you, Lawyers: for ye haue taken away the key of knowledge: ye entred not in your selues, and them that came in, ye forbade.
11:53And as he sayde these things vnto them, the Scribes and Pharises began to vrge him sore, and to prouoke him to speake of many things,
11:54Laying wait for him, and seeking to catche some thing of his mouth, whereby they might accuse him.

11:1Now it came to pass, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, that one of His disciples said to Him, "Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples."
11:2So He said to them, "When you pray, say: Our Father who is in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done as in heaven, so also on earth."
11:3Give us day by day our daily bread."
11:4And forgive us our sins, because we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us. And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil."
11:5And He said to them, "Which of you will have a friend, and will go to him at midnight and say to him, 'Friend, lend me three loaves;"
11:6because, a friend of mine has come to me on his journey, and I have nothing to set before him';"
11:7and he will reply from within and say, 'Do not trouble me; the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give to you'?"
11:8I say to you, though he will not rise and give to him because he is his friend, yet because of his persistence he will rise and give him as many as he needs."
11:9"So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you."
11:10Because, everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened."
11:11If a son shall ask for bread from anyone of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent instead of a fish?"
11:12Or if he asks for an egg, will he offer him a scorpion?"
11:13If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!"
11:14And He was casting out a demon, and it was mute. So it was, when the demon had gone out, that the mute spoke; and the people marveled.
11:15But some of them said, "He casts out demons by Beelzebub, the ruler of the demons."
11:16Others, testing Him, sought from Him a sign from heaven.
11:17But He, knowing their thoughts, said to them: "Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and a house divided against a house falls."
11:18If Satan also is divided against himself, how will his kingdom stand? Because you say I cast out demons by Beelzebub."
11:19And if I cast out demons by Beelzebub, by whom do your sons cast them out? Therefore they will be your judges."
11:20But if I cast out demons with the finger of God, surely the kingdom of God has come upon you."
11:21When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own palace, his goods are in peace."
11:22But when a stronger than he comes upon him and overcomes him, he takes from him all his armor in which he trusted, and divides his spoils."
11:23He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me scatters."
11:24"When an unclean spirit goes out of a man, he walks through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he says, 'I will return to my house from which I came.'"
11:25And when he comes, he finds it swept and put in order."
11:26Then he goes and takes with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first."
11:27And it happened, as He spoke these things, that a certain woman from the crowd raised her voice and said to Him, "Blessed is the womb that bore You, and the breasts which You have sucked!"
11:28But He said, "Rather, blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it!"
11:29And while the people were tightly gathered together, He began to say, "This is an evil generation. It seeks a sign, and no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah the prophet."
11:30Because, as Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites, so also the Son of Man will be to this generation."
11:31The queen of the South will rise up in the judgment with the men of this generation and condemn them, because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and behold, a greater than Solomon is here."
11:32The men of Nineveh will rise up in the judgment with this generation and will condemn it, because, they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and indeed a greater than Jonah is here."
11:33"No one, when he has lit a lamp, puts it in a secret place or under a basket, but on a lampstand, that those who come in may see the light."
11:34The lamp of the body is the eye. Therefore, when your eye is single, your entire body also is full of light. But when your eye is corrupted, your body also is full of darkness."
11:35Therefore take heed that the light which is in you is not darkness."
11:36If then your entire body is full of light, having no part dark, the entire body will be full of light, as when the bright shining of a lamp gives you light."
11:37And as He spoke, a certain Pharisee asked Him to dine with him. So He went in and sat down to eat.
11:38And when the Pharisee saw it, he marveled that He had not first washed before dinner.
11:39Then the Lord said to him, "Now you Pharisees make the outside of the cup and dish clean, but your inward part is full of greed and wickedness."
11:40You fools! Did not He who made the outside make the inside also?"
11:41But rather give charitable deeds of such things as you have; then indeed all things are clean to you."
11:42"But woe to you Pharisees! Because you tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass over justice and the love of God. These you ought to have done, without leaving the others undone."
11:43Woe to you Pharisees! Because, you love the best seats in the synagogues and greetings in the marketplaces."
11:44Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because, you are like graves which are not seen, and the men who walk over them are not aware of them."
11:45Then one of the lawyers responded and said to Him, "Teacher, by saying these things You reproach us also."
11:46And He said, "Woe to you also, you lawyers! Because, you load men with burdens hard to bear, and you yourselves do not touch the burdens with one of your fingers."
11:47Woe to you! Because, you build the tombs of the prophets, and your fathers killed them."
11:48In fact, you bear witness that you approve the deeds of your fathers; because, they indeed killed them, and you build their tombs."
11:49Therefore the wisdom of God also said, 'I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they will kill and persecute,'"
11:50that the blood of all the prophets which was shed from the foundation of the world may be required of this generation,"
11:51from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah who perished between the altar and the temple. Truly, I say to you, it will be required of this generation."
11:52"Woe to you lawyers! Because, you have taken away the key of knowledge. You did not enter in yourselves, and those who were entering in you hindered."
11:53And as He said these things to them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to contest Him vehemently, and to provoke Him to speak about many things,
11:54lying in wait for Him, and seeking to catch Him in something out of His mouth, that they might accuse Him.
