Luke - Chapter: 12

>
12:1In the meantime, when an innumerable multitude of people had gathered together, so that they trampled one another, He began to say to His disciples first of all, "Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy."
12:2Because, there is nothing covered that will not be revealed, nor hidden that will not be known."
12:3Therefore whatever you have spoken in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have spoken in the ear in inner rooms will be proclaimed upon the housetops."
12:4"And I say to you, My friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do."
12:5But I will forewarn you whom you should reverence: Reverence Him who, after He has killed, has authority to cast into hell; yes, I say to you, reverence Him!"
12:6"Are not five sparrows sold for two copper coins? And not one of them is forgotten before God."
12:7But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows."
12:8"Also I say to you, whoever confesses Me before men, him the Son of Man also will confess before the angels of God."
12:9But he who denies Me before men will be denied before the angels of God."
12:10"And anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but to him who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven."
12:11"Now when they bring you to the synagogues and to magistrates and authorities, do not worry about how or what you should answer, or what you should say."
12:12Because, the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say."
12:13Then one from the company said to Him, "Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me."
12:14But He said to him, "Man, who made Me a judge or an arbitrator over you?"
12:15And He said to them, "Take heed and beware of covetousness, because, one's life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses."
12:16Then He spoke a parable to them, saying: "The ground of a certain rich man yielded plentifully."
12:17And he thought within himself, saying, 'What shall I do, since I have no room to store my crops?'"
12:18So he said, 'I will do this: I will pull down my barns and build greater, and there I will store all my crops and my goods."
12:19And I will say to my soul, "Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your ease; eat, drink, and be merry."'
12:20But God said to him, 'You fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose shall those things be which you have provided?'"
12:21"So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God."
12:22Then He said to His disciples, "Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you shall eat; nor about the body, what you shall put on."
12:23Life is more than food, and the body is more than clothing."
12:24Consider the ravens, because, they neither sow nor reap, which have neither storehouse nor barn; and God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds?"
12:25And which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?"
12:26If you then are not able to do the things that are the least, why are you anxious for the rest?"
12:27Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these."
12:28If then God so clothes the grass, which today is in the field and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more will He clothe you, O you of little faith?"
12:29"And do not seek what you should eat or what you should drink, nor have an anxious mind."
12:30Because, all these things the nations of the world seek after, and your Father knows that you need these things."
12:31But instead, seek the kingdom of God, and all these things will be added to you."
12:32"Do not fear, little flock, because it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom."
12:33Sell what you have and give charitable gifts; provide yourselves money bags which do not grow old, a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches nor moth destroys."
12:34Because where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."
12:35"Let your waist be girded and your lamps burning;"
12:36and you yourselves be like men who wait for their master, when he will return from the wedding, that when he comes and knocks they may open to him immediately."
12:37Blessed are those servants whom the master, when he comes, will find watching. Truly, I say to you that he will gird himself and have them sit down to eat, and will come out and serve them."
12:38And if he should come in the second watch, or come in the third watch, and find them so, blessed are those servants."
12:39But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into."
12:40Therefore you also be ready, because the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect."
12:41Then Peter said to Him, "Lord, do You speak this parable only to us, or also to everyone?"
12:42And the Lord said, "Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his master will make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of food in due season?"
12:43Blessed is that servant whom his master will find so doing when he comes."
12:44Truly, I say to you that he will make him ruler over all that he has."
12:45But then, if that servant says in his heart, 'My master is delaying his coming,' and begins to beat the male and female servants, and to eat and drink and be drunk,"
12:46the master of that servant will come on a day when he is not looking for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in two and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers."
12:47And that servant who knew his master's will, and did not prepare himself or do according to his will, will be beaten with many stripes."
12:48But he who did not know, yet committed things deserving of stripes, will be beaten with a few stripes. Because, to whoever much is given, from him much will be required; and to whom much has been committed by men, of him they will ask the more."
12:49"I came to send fire on the earth, and what do I desire if it were already lit?"
12:50But I have a baptism to be baptized with, and how distressed I am until it is accomplished!"
12:51Do you suppose that I came to give peace on earth? I tell you, not at all, but rather division."
12:52Because, from now on five in one house will be divided: three against two, and two against three."
12:53Father will be divided against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother in law against her daughter in law and daughter in law against her mother in law."
12:54Then He also said to the people, "Whenever you see a cloud rising out of the west, immediately you say, 'A shower is coming'; and so it is."
12:55And when you see the south wind blow, you say, 'There will be hot weather'; and it happens."
12:56You hypocrites! You can discern the face of the sky and of the earth, but how is it you do not discern this time?"
12:57"Yes, and why, even of yourselves, do you not judge what is right?"
12:58When you go with your adversary to the magistrate, make every effort along the way to be delivered from him, lest he drag you to the judge, the judge deliver you to the officer, and the officer throw you into prison."
12:59I tell you, you will not depart from there until you have paid the very last mite."

12:1In the meane time, there gathered together an innumerable multitude of people, so that they trode one another: and he began to say vnto his disciples first, Take heede to your selues of the leauen of the Pharises, which is hypocrisie.
12:2For there is nothing couered, that shall not bee reueiled: neither hidde, that shall not be knowen.
12:3Wherefore whatsoeuer yee haue spoken in darkenesse, it shall be heard in the light: and that which ye haue spoken in the eare, in secret places, shall be preached on the houses.
12:4And I say vnto you, my friendes, be not afraide of them that kill the bodie, and after that are not able to doe any more.
12:5But I wil forewarne you, who ye shall feare: feare him which after hee hath killed, hath power to cast into hell: yea, I say vnto you, him feare.
12:6Are not fiue sparowes bought for two farthings, and yet not one of them is forgotten before God?
12:7Yea, and all the heares of your head are nombred: feare not therefore: yee are more of value then many sparowes.
12:8Also I say vnto you, Whosoeuer shall confesse mee before men, him shall the Sonne of man confesse also before the Angels of God.
12:9But hee that shall denie mee before men, shall be denied before the Angels of God.
12:10And whosoeuer shall speake a woorde against the Sonne of man, it shall be forgiuen him: but vnto him, that shall blaspheme ye holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiuen.
12:11And when they shall bring you vnto the Synagogues, and vnto the rulers and Princes, take no thought howe, or what thing ye shall answere, or what yee shall speake.
12:12For the holy Ghost shall teache you in the same houre, what yee ought to say.
12:13And one of the companie said vnto him, Master, bidde my brother deuide the inheritance with me.
12:14And he said vnto him, Man, who made me a iudge, or a deuider ouer you?
12:15Wherefore he said vnto them, Take heede, and beware of couetousnesse: for though a man haue abundance, yet his life standeth not in his riches.
12:16And he put foorth a parable vnto them, saying, The grounde of a certaine riche man brought foorth fruites plenteously.
12:17Therefore he thought with himselfe, saying, What shall I doe, because I haue no roume, where I may lay vp my fruites?
12:18And he said, This wil I do, I wil pul downe my barnes, and builde greater, and therein will I gather all my fruites, and my goods.
12:19And I wil say to my soule, Soule, thou hast much goods laide vp for many yeeres: liue at ease, eate, drinke and take thy pastime.
12:20But God said vnto him, O foole, this night wil they fetch away thy soule from thee: then whose shall those things be which thou hast prouided?
12:21So is he that gathereth riches to himselfe, and is not riche in God.
12:22And he spake vnto his disciples, Therefore I say vnto you, Take no thought for your life, what yee shall eate: neither for your body, what yee shall put on.
12:23The life is more then meate: and the body more then the raiment.
12:24Consider the rauens: for they neither sowe nor reape: which neither haue storehouse nor barne, and yet God feedeth them: how much more are yee better then foules?
12:25And which of you with taking thought, can adde to his stature one cubite?
12:26If yee then bee not able to doe the least thing, why take yee thought for the remnant?
12:27Consider the lilies howe they growe: they labour not, neither spin they: yet I say vnto you, that Salomon himselfe in all his royaltie was not clothed like one of these.
12:28If then God so clothe the grasse which is to day in the field, and to morowe is cast into the ouen, howe much more will he clothe you, O yee of litle faith?
12:29Therefore aske not what yee shall eate, or what ye shall drinke, neither hag you in suspense.
12:30For all such things the people of the world seeke for: and your Father knoweth that ye haue neede of these things.
12:31But rather seeke ye after the kingdome of God, and all these things shalbe cast vpon you.
12:32Feare not, litle flocke: for it is your Fathers pleasure, to giue you the kingdome.
12:33Sell that ye haue, and giue almes: make you bagges, which waxe not old, a treasure that can neuer faile in heauen, where no theefe commeth, neither mothe corrupteth.
12:34For where your treasure is, there will your hearts be also.
12:35Let your loynes be gird about and your lights burning,
12:36And ye your selues like vnto men that waite for their master, when he will returne from the wedding, that when he commeth and knocketh, they may open vnto him immediatly.
12:37Blessed are those seruants, whom the Lord when he commeth shall finde waking: verely I say vnto you, he will girde himselfe about, and make them to sit downe at table, and will come forth, and serue them.
12:38And if he come in the seconde watch, or come in the third watch, and shall finde them so, blessed are those seruants.
12:39Nowe vnderstand this, that if the good man of the house had knowen at what houre the theefe would haue come, he would haue watched, and would not haue suffered his house to be digged through.
12:40Be ye also prepared therefore: for the Sonne of man will come at an houre when ye thinke not.
12:41Then Peter saide vnto him, Master, tellest thou this parable vnto vs, or euen to all?
12:42And the Lord saide, Who is a faithfull steward and wise, whom the master shall make ruler ouer his householde, to giue them their portion of meate in season?
12:43Blessed is that seruant, whom his master when he commeth, shall finde so doing.
12:44Of a trueth I say vnto you, that he wil make him ruler ouer all that he hath.
12:45But if that seruant say in his heart, My master doeth deferre his comming, and ginne to smite the seruants, and maydens, and to eate, and drinke, and to be drunken,
12:46The master of that seruant will come in a day when he thinketh not, and at an houre when he is not ware of, and will cut him off, and giue him his portion with the vnbeleeuers.
12:47And that seruant that knewe his masters will, and prepared not himselfe, neither did according to his will, shalbe beaten with many stripes.
12:48But he that knewe it not, and yet did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with fewe stripes: for vnto whomsoeuer much is giuen, of him shalbe much required, and to whom men much commit, the more of him will they aske.
12:49I am come to put fire on the earth, and what is my desire, if it be already kindled?
12:50Notwithstanding I must be baptized with a baptisme, and how am I grieued, till it be ended?
12:51Thinke ye that I am come to giue peace on earth? I tell you, nay, but rather debate.
12:52For from hencefoorth there shall be fiue in one house deuided, three against two, and two against three.
12:53The father shalbe deuided against ye sonne, and the sonne against the father: the mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother: the mother in lawe against her daughter in lawe, and the daughter in lawe against her mother in lawe.
12:54Then said he to the people, When ye see a cloude rise out of the West, straightway ye say, A shower commeth: and so it is.
12:55And when ye see the South winde blowe, ye say, that it wilbe hoate: and it commeth to passe.
12:56Hypocrites, ye can discerne the face of the earth, and of the skie: but why discerne ye not this time?
12:57Yea, and why iudge ye not of your selues what is right?
12:58While thou goest with thine aduersarie to the ruler, as thou art in the way, giue diligence in the way, that thou mayest be deliuered from him, least he drawe thee to the iudge, and the iudge deliuer thee to the iayler, and the iayler cast thee into prison.
12:59I tell thee, thou shalt not depart thence, till thou hast payed the vtmost mite.

12:1As ther gadered together an innumerable multitude of people (in so moche that they trood one another) he began to saye vnto his disciples: Fyrst of all beware of the leve of the Pharises which is ypocrisy.
12:2For ther is no thinge covered that shall not be vncovered: nether hyd that shall not be knowen.
12:3For whatsoever ye have spoken in in darknes: that same shalbe hearde in light. And that which ye have spoken in the the eare eve in secret places shalbe preached even on the toppe of the housses.
12:4I saye vnto you my fredes: Be not afrayde of them that kyll the body and after that have no moare that they can do.
12:5But I will shewe you whom ye shall feare. Feare him which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell. Ye I saye vnto you him feare.
12:6Are not five sparowes bought for two farthinges? And yet not one of them is forgotten of God.
12:7Also even the very heres of youre heedes are nombred. Feare not therfore: ye are moare of value then many sparowes.
12:8I saye vnto you: Whosoever confesseth me before men eve him shall ye sonne of man confesse also before ye angels of God.
12:9And he that denyeth me before men: shalbe denyed before ye angels of God.
12:10And whosoever speaketh a worde agaynst ye sonne of ma it shalbe forgeven him. But vnto him yt blasphemeth the holy goost it shall not be forgeven.
12:11When they bringe you vnto the synagoges and vnto the rulers and officers take no thought how or what thinge ye shall answer or what ye shall speake.
12:12For the holy goost shall teache you in the same houre what ye ought to saye.
12:13One of the company sayde vnto hym: Master byd my brother devide the enheritauce with me.
12:14And he sayde vnto him: Man who made me a iudge or a devider over you?
12:15Wherfore he sayde vnto them: take hede and beware of covetousnes. For no mannes lyfe stondeth in the aboundaunce of the thinges which he possesseth.
12:16And he put forth a similitude vnto them sayinge: The groude of a certayne riche ma brought forth frutes plenteously
12:17and he thought in himsilfe sayinge: what shall I do? because I have noo roume where to bestowe my frutes?
12:18And he sayde: This will I do. I will destroye my barnes and bilde greater and therin will I gadder all my frutes and my goodes:
12:19and I will saye to my soule: Soule thou hast moch goodes layde vp in stoore for many yeares take thyne ease: eate drinke and be mery.
12:20But God sayde vnto him: Thou fole this night will they fetche awaye thy soule agayne from the. Then whose shall thoose thinges be which thou hast provyded?
12:21So is it with him that gadereth ryches and is not ryche in God.
12:22And he spake vnto his disciples: Therfore I saye vnto you: take no thought for youre lyfe what ye shall eate nether for youre body what ye shall put on.
12:23The lyfe is moare then meate and the bodye is moare then rayment.
12:24Considre the ravens for they nether sowe nor repe which nether have stoorehousse ner barne and yet God fedeth them. How moche are ye better then the foules.
12:25Which of you with takynge thought can adde to his stature one cubit?
12:26Yf ye then be not able to do that thinge which is least: why take ye thought for the remmaunt?
12:27Considre the lylies how they growe: They laboure not: they spyn not: and yet I saye vnto you that Salomon in all this royalte was not clothed lyke to one of these.
12:28Yf the grasse which is todaye in the felde and tomorowe shalbe cast into the fornace God so clothe: how moche moore will he clothe you o ye endued wt litell faith?
12:29And axe not what ye shall eate or what ye shall drinke nether clyme ye vp an hye
12:30for all suche thinges the hethen people of the worlde seke for. Youre father knoweth that ye have nede of suche thinges.
12:31Wherfore seke ye after the kyngedome of God and all these thinges shalbe ministred vnto you.
12:32Feare not litell floocke for it is youre fathers pleasure to geve you a kingdome.
12:33Sell that ye have and geve almes. And make you bagges which wexe not olde and treasure that fayleth not in heaven where noo these commeth nether moth corrupteth.
12:34For where youre treasure is there will youre hertes be also.
12:35Let youre loynes be gerdde about and youre lightes brennynge
12:36and ye youre selves lyke vnto men that wayte for their master when he will returne fro a weddinge: that assone as he cometh and knocketh they maye ope vnto him.
12:37Happy are those servauntes which the Lorde when he cometh shall fynde wakynge. Verely I saye vnto you he will gerdde him selfe about and make them sit doune to meate and walke by and minister vnto them.
12:38And yf he come in the seconde watche ye if he come in the thyrde watche and shall fynde them soo happy are those servauntes.
12:39This vnderstonde that yf the good man of the housse knewe what houre ye these wolde come he wolde suerly watche: and not suffer his housse to be broken vp.
12:40Be ye prepared therfore: for the sonne of man will come at an houre when ye thinke not.
12:41Then Peter sayde vnto him: Master tellest thou this similitude vnto vs or to all men?
12:42And the Lorde sayde: If there be any faith full servaut and wise whom his Lorde shall make ruler over his housholde to geve them their duetie of meate at due season:
12:43happy is that servaunt whom his master when he cometh shall finde soo doinge.
12:44Of a trueth I saye vnto you: that he will make him ruler over all that he hath.
12:45But and yf the evyll servaunt shall saye in his hert: My master wyll differre his cominge and shall beginne to smyte the servauntes and maydens and to eate and drinke and to be dronken:
12:46the Lorde of that servaunt will come in a daye when he thinketh not and at an houre when he is not ware and will devyde him and will geve him his rewarde with the vnbelevers.
12:47The servaut that knewe his masters will and prepared not him selfe nether dyd accordinge to his will shalbe bete with many strypes.
12:48But he that knewe not and yet dyd committe thinges worthy of strypes shalbe beaten with feawe strypes. For vnto whom moche is geven of him shalbe moche requyred. And to whom men moche commyt the moare of him will they axe.
12:49I am come to sende fyre on erth: and what is my dysyre but that it were all redy kyndled?
12:50Not with stondinge I must de baptised with a baptyme: and how am I payned till it be ended?
12:51Suppose ye that I am come to sende peace on erth? I tell you naye: but rather debate.
12:52For fro hence forthe ther shalbe five in one housse devided thre agaynst two and two agaynst thre.
12:53The father shalbe devided agaynst the sonne and the sonne agaynst the father. The mother agaynst the doughter and the doughter agaynst the mother. The motereleawe agaynst hir doughterelawe and the doughterelawe agaynst hir motherelawe.
12:54Then sayde he to the people: when ye se a cloude ryse out of the west strayght waye ye saye: we shall have a shower and soo it is.
12:55And when ye se the south wynde blow ye saye: we shall have heet and it cometh to passe.
12:56Ypocrites ye can skyll of the fassion of the erth and of the skye: but what is ye cause that ye canot skyll of this time?
12:57Ye and why iudge ye not of youre selves what is righte?
12:58Whill thou goest with thyne adversary to the ruler: as thou arte in the waye geve diligence that thou mayst be delivered fro him least he bringe the to the iudge and the iudge delyver the to the iaylar and the iaylar cast the in to preson.
12:59I tell ye thou departest not thence tyll thou have made good ye vtmost myte.
