| 15:1 | Then all the tax collectors and the sinners drew near to Him to hear Him. |
| 15:2 | And the Pharisees and scribes murmured, saying, "This Man receives sinners and eats with them." |
| 15:3 | So He spoke this parable to them, saying: |
| 15:4 | "What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he loses one of them, does not leave the ninety nine in the wilderness, and go after the one which is lost until he finds it?" |
| 15:5 | And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing." |
| 15:6 | And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and neighbors, saying to them, 'Rejoice with me, because I have found my sheep which was lost!'" |
| 15:7 | I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety nine just persons who need no repentance." |
| 15:8 | "Or what woman, having ten silver coins, if she loses one coin, does not light a lamp, sweep the house, and search diligently until she finds it?" |
| 15:9 | And when she has found it, she calls her friends and her neighbors together, saying, 'Rejoice with me, because I have found the piece which I lost!'" |
| 15:10 | Likewise, I say to you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents." |
| 15:11 | Then He said: "A certain man had two sons." |
| 15:12 | And the younger of them said to his father, 'Father, give me the portion of goods that falls to me.' So he divided to them his livelihood." |
| 15:13 | And not many days after, the younger son gathered all together, journeyed to a far country, and there wasted his possessions with reckless living." |
| 15:14 | But when he had spent everything, there arose a severe famine in that land, and he began to be in need." |
| 15:15 | Then he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country, and he sent him into his fields to feed swine." |
| 15:16 | And he would gladly have filled his stomach with the pods that the swine ate, and no one gave anything to him." |
| 15:17 | "But when he came to himself, he said, 'How many of my father's hired servants have enough bread and to spare, and I perish with hunger!" |
| 15:18 | I will arise and go to my father, and will say to him, "Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you," |
| 15:19 | and I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Make me like one of your hired servants."' |
| 15:20 | "And he arose and came to his father. But when he was still a long way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him." |
| 15:21 | And the son said to him, 'Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight, and am no longer worthy to be called your son.'" |
| 15:22 | "But the father said to his servants, 'Bring out the best robe and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet." |
| 15:23 | And bring the fatted calf here and kill it, and let us eat and be merry;" |
| 15:24 | because this my son was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.' And they began to be merry." |
| 15:25 | "Now his older son was in the field. And as he came and drew near to the house, he heard music and dancing." |
| 15:26 | So he called one of the servants and asked what these things meant." |
| 15:27 | And he said to him, 'Your brother has come, and because he has received him safe and sound, your father has killed the fatted calf.'" |
| 15:28 | "But he was angry and would not go in. Therefore his father came out and pleaded with him." |
| 15:29 | So he replied and said to his father, 'Behold, these many years I have been serving you; I never transgressed your commandment at any time; and yet you never gave me a young goat, that I might be merry with my friends." |
| 15:30 | But as soon as this son of yours came, who has devoured your livelihood with harlots, you killed the fatted calf for him.'" |
| 15:31 | "And he said to him, 'Son, you are always with me, and all that I have is yours." |
| 15:32 | It was right that we should make merry and be glad, because that your brother was dead and is alive again, and was lost and is found.'" |
| 15:1 | Then resorted vnto him all the Publicanes and sinners, to heare him. |
| 15:2 | Therefore the Pharises and Scribes murmured, saying, Hee receiueth sinners, and eateth with them. |
| 15:3 | Then spake hee this parable to them, saying, |
| 15:4 | What man of you hauing an hundreth sheepe, if hee lose one of them, doeth not leaue ninetie and nine in the wildernesse, and goe after that which is lost, vntill he finde it? |
| 15:5 | And when he hath found it, he laieth it on his shoulders with ioye. |
| 15:6 | And when he commeth home, he calleth together his friendes and neighbours, saying vnto them, Reioyce with mee: for I haue founde my sheepe which was lost. |
| 15:7 | I say vnto you, that likewise ioy shall be in heauen for one sinner that conuerteth, more then for ninetie and nine iust men, which neede none amendment of life. |
| 15:8 | Either what woman hauing ten groates, if she lose one groate, doth not light a candle, and sweepe the house, and seeke diligently till shee finde it? |
| 15:9 | And when shee hath found it, shee calleth her friendes, and neighbours, saying, Reioyce with me: for I haue found the groate which I had lost. |
| 15:10 | Likewise I say vnto you, there is ioy in the presence of the Angels of God, for one sinner that conuerteth. |
| 15:11 | He sayde moreouer, A certaine man had two sonnes. |
| 15:12 | And the yonger of them sayde to his father, Father, giue mee the portion of the goods that falleth to mee. So he deuided vnto them his substance. |
| 15:13 | So not many daies after, when the yonger sonne had gathered all together, hee tooke his iourney into a farre countrey, and there hee wasted his goods with riotous liuing. |
| 15:14 | Nowe when hee had spent all, there arose a great dearth throughout that land, and he began to be in necessitie. |
| 15:15 | Then hee went and claue to a citizen of that conntrey, and hee sent him to his farme, to feede swine. |
| 15:16 | And hee would faine haue filled his bellie with the huskes, that the swine ate: but no man gaue them him. |
| 15:17 | Then he came to him selfe, and said, Howe many hired seruaunts at my fathers haue bread ynough, and I die for hunger? |
| 15:18 | I wil rise and goe to my father, and say vnto him, Father, I haue sinned against heaue, and before thee, |
| 15:19 | And am no more worthy to be called thy sonne: make me as one of thy hired seruants. |
| 15:20 | So hee arose and came to his father, and when hee was yet a great way off, his father sawe him, and had compassion, and ranne and fell on his necke, and kissed him. |
| 15:21 | And the sonne sayde vnto him, Father, I haue sinned against heauen, and before thee, and am no more worthie to be called thy sonne. |
| 15:22 | Then the father said to his seruaunts, Bring foorth the best robe, and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feete, |
| 15:23 | And bring the fat calfe, and kill him, and let vs eate, and be merie: |
| 15:24 | For this my sonne was dead, and is aliue againe: and he was lost, but he is found. And they began to be merie. |
| 15:25 | Nowe the elder brother was in the fielde, and when he came and drewe neere to the house, he heard melodie, and dauncing, |
| 15:26 | And called one of his seruaunts, and asked what those things meant. |
| 15:27 | And hee sayde vnto him, Thy brother is come, and thy father hath killed the fatte calfe, because he hath receiued him safe and sound. |
| 15:28 | Then he was angry, and would not goe in: therefore came his father out and entreated him. |
| 15:29 | But he answered and said to his father, Loe, these many yeeres haue I done thee seruice, neither brake I at any time thy commadement, and yet thou neuer gauest mee a kidde that I might make merie with my friends. |
| 15:30 | But when this thy sonne was come, which hath deuoured thy good with harlots, thou hast for his sake killed the fat calfe. |
| 15:31 | And he said vnto him, Sonne, thou art euer with me, and al that I haue, is thine. It was meete that we shoulde make merie, and be glad: for this thy brother was dead, and is aliue againe: and hee was lost, but he is found. |
| 15:1 | Then resorted vnto him all ye publicas and synners for to heare him. |
| 15:2 | And the pharises and scribes murmured sayinge: He receaved to his copany synners and eateth with them. |
| 15:3 | Then put he forthe this similitude to the sayinge: |
| 15:4 | What man of you havynge an hundred shepe yf he loose one of thee doth not leve nynty and nyne in the wyldernes and goo after yt which is loost vntyll he fynde him? |
| 15:5 | And whe he hath founde him he putteth him on his shulders with ioye: |
| 15:6 | And assone as he cometh home he calleth to gedder his lovers and neghbours sayinge vnto them: reioyse with me for I have founde my shepe which was loost. |
| 15:7 | I say vnto you yt lyke wyse ioye shalbe in heven over one synner yt repenteth moore then over nynety and nyne iuste persons whiche nede noo repentauce. |
| 15:8 | Ether what woman havynge .x. grotes yf she loose one doth not lyght a candell and swepe ye housse and seke diligently tyll she fynde it? |
| 15:9 | And when she hath founde it she calleth her lovers and her neghbours sayinge: Reioyce wt me for I have founde the groate which I had loost. |
| 15:10 | Lykwyse I saye vnto you ioye is made in ye presence of ye angels of god over one synner yt repenteth. |
| 15:11 | And he sayde: a certayne man had two sonnes |
| 15:12 | and the yonger of them sayde to his father: father geve me my parte of the goodes yt to me belongeth. And he devided vnto them his substaunce. |
| 15:13 | And not longe after ye yonger sonne gaddered all that he had to gedder and toke his iorney into a farre countre and theare he wasted his goodes with royetous lyvinge. |
| 15:14 | And when he had spent all that he had ther rose a greate derth thorow out all yt same londe and he began to lacke. |
| 15:15 | And he went and clave to a citesyn of yt same countre which sent him to his felde to kepe his swyne. |
| 15:16 | And he wold fayne have filled his bely with the coddes that ye swyne ate: and noo man gave him. |
| 15:17 | Then he came to him selfe and sayde: how many hyred servauntes at my fathers have breed ynough and I dye for honger. |
| 15:18 | I will aryse and goo to my father and will saye vnto him: father I have synned agaynst heven and before ye |
| 15:19 | and am no moare worthy to be called thy sonne make me as one of thy hyred servauntes. |
| 15:20 | And he arose and went to his father. And when he was yet a greate waye of his father sawe him and had compassion and ran and fell on his necke and kyssed him. |
| 15:21 | And the sonne sayd vnto him: father I have synned agaynst heven and in thy sight and am no moare worthy to be called thy sonne. |
| 15:22 | But his father sayde to his servautes: bringe forth that best garment and put it on him and put a rynge on his honde and showes on his fete. |
| 15:23 | And bringe hidder that fatted caulfe and kyll him and let vs eate and be mery: |
| 15:24 | for this my sonne was deed and is alyve agayne he was loste and is now founde. And they began to be merye. |
| 15:25 | The elder brother was in the felde and when he cam and drewe nye to ye housse he herde minstrelcy and daunsynge |
| 15:26 | and called one of his servauntes and axed what thoose thinges meate. |
| 15:27 | And he sayd vnto him: thy brother is come and thy father had kylled ye fatted caulfe because he hath receaved him safe and sounde. |
| 15:28 | And he was angry and wolde not goo in. Then came his father out and entreated him. |
| 15:29 | He answered and sayde to his father: Loo these many yeares have I done the service nether brake at eny tyme thy commaundment and yet gavest thou me never soo moche as a kyd to make mery wt my lovers: |
| 15:30 | but assone as this thy sonne was come which hath devoured thy goodes with harlootes thou haste for his pleasure kylled ye fatted caulfe. |
| 15:31 | And he sayd vnto him: Sonne thou wast ever with me and all that I have is thyne: |
| 15:32 | it was mete that we shuld make mery and be glad: for this thy brother was deed and is a lyve agayne: and was loste and is founde. |
