23:24And Pilat demyde her axyng to be don.
23:25And he delyueride to hem hym, that for mansleyng and sedicioun was sent in to prisoun, whom thei axiden; but he bitook Jhesu to her wille.

23:28And Jhesus turnede to hem, and seide, Douytris of Jerusalem, nyle ye wepe on me, but wepe ye on youre silf and on youre sones.
23:29For lo! daies schulen come, in whiche it schal be seid, Blessid be bareyn wymmen, and wombis that han not borun children, and the tetis that han not youun souke.
23:30Thanne thei schulen bigynne to seie to mounteyns, Falle ye doun on vs, and to smale hillis, Keuere ye vs.
23:31For if in a greene tre thei don these thingis, what schal be don in a drie?
23:32Also othere twei wickid men weren led with hym, to be slayn.
23:33And `aftir that thei camen in to a place, that is clepid of Caluerie, there thei crucifieden hym, and the theues, oon on the riyt half, and `the tother on the left half.
23:34But Jhesus seide, Fadir, foryyue hem, for thei witen not what thei doon.
23:35And thei departiden his clothis, and kesten lottis. And the puple stood abidynge; and the princis scorneden hym with hem, and seiden, Othere men he maad saaf; make he hym silf saaf, if this be Crist, the chosun of God.
23:36And the knyytis neiyeden, and scorneden hym, and profreden vynegre to hym,
23:37and seiden, If thou art king of Jewis, make thee saaf.
23:38And the superscripcioun was writun ouer hym with Greke lettris, and of Latyn, and of Ebreu, This is the kyng of Jewis.
23:39And oon of these theues that hangiden, blasfemyde hym, and seide, If thou art Crist, make thi silf saaf and vs.
23:40But `the tothir answerynge, blamyde hym, and seide, Nether thou dredist God, that art in the same dampnacioun?
23:41And treuli we iustli, for we han resseiued worthi thingis to werkis; but this dide no thing of yuel.
23:42And he seide to Jhesu, Lord, haue mynde of me, whanne thou comest `in to thi kyngdom.
23:43And Jhesus seide to hym, Treuli Y seie to thee, this dai thou schalt be with me in paradise.
23:44And it was almest the sixte our, and derknessis weren maad in al the erthe `in to the nynthe our.
23:45And the sun was maad derk, and the veile of the temple was to-rent atwo.
23:46And Jhesus criynge with a greet vois, seide, Fadir, in to thin hoondis Y bitake my spirit. And he seiynge these thingis, yaf vp the goost.
23:47And the centurien seynge that thing that was don, glorifiede God, and seide, Verili this man was iust.
23:48And al the puple of hem that weren there togidir at this spectacle, and sayn tho thingis that weren don, smyten her brestis, and turneden ayen.
23:49But alle his knowun stoden afer, and wymmen that sueden hym fro Galile, seynge these thingis.
23:50And lo! a man, Joseph bi name, of Aramathie, a cite of Judee, that was a decurien, a good man and a iust,
23:51this man concentide not to the counseil and to the dedis of hem; and he abood the kyngdom of God.
23:52This Joseph cam to Pilat, and axide the bodi of Jhesu,
23:53and took it doun, and wlappide it in a cleene lynen cloth, and leide hym in a graue hewun, in which not yit ony man hadde be leid.
23:54And the dai was the euen of the halidai, and the sabat bigan to schyne.
23:55And the wymmen suynge, that camen with hym fro Galile, sayn the graue, and hou his bodi was leid.
23:56And thei turneden ayen, and maden redi swete smellynge spicis, and oynementis; but in the sabat thei restiden, aftir the comaundement.

23:1Then the whole multitude of them arose, and led him vnto Pilate.
23:2And they began to accuse him, saying, We haue found this man peruerting the nation, and forbidding to pay tribute to Cesar, saying, That he is Christ a King.
23:3And Pilate asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Iewes? And hee answered him, and sayd, Thou sayest it.
23:4Then sayd Pilate to the hie Priests, and to the people, I finde no fault in this man.
23:5But they were the more fierce, saying, He moueth the people, teaching throughout all Iudea, beginning at Galile, euen to this place.
23:6Nowe when Pilate heard of Galile, he asked whether the man were a Galilean.
23:7And when he knewe that he was of Herods iurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, which was also at Hierusalem in those dayes.
23:8And when Herod sawe Iesus, hee was exceedingly glad: for he was desirous to see him of a long season, because he had heard many things of him, and trusted to haue seene some signe done by him.
23:9Then questioned hee with him of many things: but he answered him nothing.
23:10The hie Priests also and Scribes stood forth, and accused him vehemently.
23:11And Herod with his men of warre, despised him, and mocked him, and arayed him in white, and sent him againe to Pilate.
23:12And the same day Pilate and Herod were made friends together: for before they were enemies one to another.
23:13Then Pilate called together the hie Priests and the rulers, and the people,
23:14And sayd vnto them, Ye haue brought this man vnto me, as one that peruerted the people: and beholde, I haue examined him before you, and haue found no fault in this man, of those things whereof ye accuse him:
23:15No, nor yet Herod: for I sent you to him: and loe, nothing worthy of death is done of him.
23:16I will therefore chastise him, and let him loose.
23:17(For of necessitie hee must haue let one loose vnto them at the feast.)
23:18Then all ye multitude cried at once, saying, Away with him, and deliuer vnto vs Barabbas:
23:19Which for a certaine insurrection made in the citie, and murder, was cast in prison.
23:20Then Pilate spake againe to them, willing to let Iesus loose.
23:21But they cried, saying, Crucifie, crucifie him.
23:22And he sayd vnto them the third time, But what euill hath he done? I finde no cause of death in him: I will therefore chastise him, and let him loose.
23:23But they were instant with loude voyces, and required that he might be crucified: and the voyces of them and of the hie Priests preuailed.
23:24So Pilate gaue sentence, that it should be as they required.
23:25And he let loose vnto them him that for insurrection and murder was cast into prison, whome they desired, and deliuered Iesus to doe with him what they would.
23:26And as they led him away, they caught one Simon of Cyrene, comming out of the fielde, and on him they layde the crosse, to beare it after Iesus.
23:27And there followed him a great multitude of people, and of women, which women bewailed and lamented him.
23:28But Iesus turned backe vnto them, and said, Daughters of Hierusalem, weepe not for me, but weepe for your selues, and for your children.
23:29For behold, the dayes wil come, when men shall say, Blessed are the barren, and the wombes that neuer bare, and the pappes which neuer gaue sucke.
23:30Then shall they begin to say to the mountaines, Fall on vs: and to the hilles, Couer vs.
23:31For if they doe these things to a greene tree, what shalbe done to the drie?
23:32And there were two others, which were euill doers, led with him to be slaine.
23:33And when they were come to the place, which is called Caluarie, there they crucified him, and the euill doers: one at the right hand, and the other at the left.
23:34Then sayd Iesus, Father, forgiue them: for they know not what they doe. And they parted his raiment, and cast lottes.
23:35And the people stoode, and behelde: and the rulers mocked him with them, saying, He saued others: let him saue himselfe, if hee be that Christ, the Chosen of God.
23:36The souldiers also mocked him, and came and offered him vineger,
23:37And said, If thou be the King of the Iewes, saue thy selfe.
23:38And a superscription was also written ouer him, in Greeke letters, and in Latin, and in Hebrewe, THIS IS THAT KING OF THE JEWES.
23:39And one of the euill doers, which were hanged, railed on him, saying, If thou be that Christ, saue thy selfe and vs.
23:40But the other answered, and rebuked him, saying, Fearest thou not God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation?
23:41We are in deede righteously here: for we receiue things worthy of that we haue done: but this man hath done nothing amisse.
23:42And he sayd vnto Iesus, Lord, remember me, when thou commest into thy kingdome.
23:43Then Iesus said vnto him, Verely I say vnto thee, to day shalt thou be with me in Paradise.
23:44And it was about the sixt houre: and there was a darkenes ouer all the land, vntill the ninth houre.
23:45And the Sunne was darkened, and the vaile of the Temple rent through the middes.
23:46And Iesus cryed with a loude voyce, and sayd, Father, into thine hands I commend my spirit. And when hee thus had sayd, hee gaue vp the ghost.
23:47Nowe when the Centurion saw what was done, he glorified God, saying, Of a suretie this man was iust.
23:48And all the people that came together to that sight, beholding the things, which were done, smote their brestes, and returned.
23:49And all his acquaintance stood a farre off, and the women that followed him from Galile, beholding these things.
23:50And beholde, there was a man named Ioseph, which was a counseller, a good man and a iust.
23:51Hee did not consent to the counsell and deede of them, which was of Arimathea, a citie of the Iewes: who also himselfe waited for the kingdome of God.
23:52He went vnto Pilate, and asked the body of Iesus,
23:53And tooke it downe, and wrapped it in a linnen cloth, and laide it in a tombe hewen out of a rocke, wherein was neuer man yet laide.
23:54And that day was the preparation, and the Sabbath drewe on.
23:55And the women also that followed after, which came with him from Galile, behelde the sepulchre, and how his body was layd.
23:56And they returned and prepared odours, and ointments, and rested the Sabbath day according to the commandement.

23:1Then the entire multitude of them arose and led Him to Pilate.
23:2And they began to accuse Him, saying, "We found this man perverting the nation, and forbidding to pay taxes to Caesar, saying that He Himself is Christ, a King."
23:3Then Pilate asked Him, saying, "Are You the King of the Jews?" And He answered him and said, "You say it."
23:4So Pilate said to the chief priests and to the people, "I find no fault in this Man."
23:5But they were the more fierce, saying, "He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Jewry, beginning from Galilee to this place."
23:6When Pilate heard of Galilee, he asked if the Man were a Galilean.
23:7And as soon as he knew that He belonged to Herod's jurisdiction, he sent Him to Herod, who was himself also in Jerusalem at that time.
23:8Now when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceedingly glad; because, he had desired for a long time to see Him, because he had heard many things about Him, and he had hoped to have seen some miracle done by Him.
23:9Then he questioned Him with many words, but He answered him nothing.
23:10And the chief priests and scribes stood and vehemently accused Him.
23:11Then Herod, with his men of war, treated Him with contempt and mocked Him, arrayed Him in a gorgeous robe, and sent Him back to Pilate.
23:12That very day Pilate and Herod became friends with each other, because previously they had been at enmity between themselves.
23:13Then Pilate, when he had called together the chief priests, the rulers, and the people,
23:14said to them, "You have brought this Man to me, as one who perverts the people. And indeed, having examined Him in your presence, I have found no fault in this Man concerning those things of which you accuse Him;
23:15no, neither did Herod, because, I sent you to him; and indeed nothing deserving of death has been done to Him.
23:16I will therefore chastise Him and release Him"
23:17(because it was necessary for him to release one to them at the feast).
23:18But they all shouted out at once, saying, "Away with this Man, and release to us Barabbas,"
23:19who had been thrown into prison for a certain rebellion made in the city, and for murder.
23:20Pilate, therefore, willing to release Jesus, spoke to them again.
23:21But they shouted, saying, "Crucify Him, crucify Him!"
23:22Then he said to them the third time, "Why, what evil has He done? I have found no reason for death in Him. I will therefore chastise Him and let Him go."
23:23But they insisted with loud voices demanding that He be crucified. And their voices and that of the chief priests prevailed.
23:24So Pilate gave sentence that it should be as they demanded.
23:25And he released to them the one they preferred, who for rebellion and murder had been thrown into prison; but he delivered Jesus to their will.
23:26Now as they led Him away, they laid hold of a certain man, Simon a Cyrenian, who was coming from the country, and on him they laid the cross that he might carry it after Jesus.
23:27And a large company of the people followed Him, and women who also mourned and lamented Him.
23:28But Jesus, turning to them, said, "Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for Me, but weep for yourselves and for your children."
23:29Because, indeed the days are coming in which they will say, 'Blessed are the barren, the wombs that never bore, and breasts which never nursed!'"
23:30Then they will begin 'to say to the mountains, "Fall on us!" and to the hills, "Cover us!"'
23:31Because, if they do these things in the green wood, what will be done in the dry?"
23:32There were also two others, criminals, led with Him to be put to death.
23:33And when they had come to the place that is called Calvary, there they crucified Him, and the criminals, one on the right hand and the other on the left.
23:34Then Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, because they do not know what they do." And they divided His clothes and cast lots.
23:35And the people stood looking on. But the rulers, also with them, ridiculed Him, saying, "He saved others; let Him save Himself if He is the Christ, the chosen of God."
23:36The soldiers also mocked Him, coming to Him and offering Him vinegar,
23:37and saying, "If You are the King of the Jews, save Yourself."
23:38And an inscription also was written over Him in letters of Greek, Latin, and Hebrew: THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.
23:39Then one of the criminals who were hanged blasphemed Him, saying, "If You are the Christ, save Yourself and us."
23:40But the other, responding, rebuked him, saying, "Do you not reverence God, seeing you are under the same condemnation?
23:41And we indeed justly, because we receive the due reward of our deeds; but this Man has done nothing wrong."
23:42Then he said to Jesus, "Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom."
23:43And Jesus said to him, "Truly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise."
23:44Now it was about the sixth hour, and there was darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour.
23:45Then the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was torn in the middle.
23:46And when Jesus had shouted with a loud voice, He said, "Father, 'into Your hands I commit My spirit.'" Having said this, He gave up the spirit.
23:47So when the centurion saw what had happened, he glorified God, saying, "Certainly this was a righteous Man!"
23:48And all the people who came together to that sight, seeing what had been done, beat their chests and returned.
23:49But all His acquaintances, and the women who followed Him from Galilee, stood at a distance, watching these things.
23:50Now behold, there was a man named Joseph, a council member, and he was a good and just man.
23:51He had not consented to their decision and deed. He was from Arimathea, a city of the Jews, who himself was also waiting for the kingdom of God.
23:52This man went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus.
23:53Then he took it down, wrapped it in linen, and laid it in a tomb that was hewn out of the rock, where no one had ever lain before.
23:54That day was the Preparation, and the Sabbath drew near.
23:55And the women also who had come with Him from Galilee followed after, and they observed the tomb and how His body was laid.
23:56Then they returned and prepared spices and fragrant oils. And they rested on the Sabbath according to the commandment.
