| 23:1 | And having risen, the whole multitude of them did lead him to Pilate, |
| 23:2 | and began to accuse him, saying, `This one we found perverting the nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, saying himself to be Christ a king.' |
| 23:3 | And Pilate questioned him, saying, `Thou art the king of the Jews?' and he answering him, said, `Thou dost say `it'.' |
| 23:4 | And Pilate said unto the chief priests, and the multitude, `I find no fault in this man;' |
| 23:5 | and they were the more urgent, saying -- `He doth stir up the people, teaching throughout the whole of Judea -- having begun from Galilee -- unto this place.' |
| 23:6 | And Pilate having heard of Galilee, questioned if the man is a Galilean, |
| 23:7 | and having known that he is from the jurisdiction of Herod, he sent him back unto Herod, he being also in Jerusalem in those days. |
| 23:8 | And Herod having seen Jesus did rejoice exceedingly, for he was wishing for a long `time' to see him, because of hearing many things about him, and he was hoping some sign to see done by him, |
| 23:9 | and was questioning him in many words, and he answered him nothing. |
| 23:10 | And the chief priests and the scribes stood vehemently accusing him, |
| 23:11 | and Herod with his soldiers having set him at nought, and having mocked, having put around him gorgeous apparel, did send him back to Pilate, |
| 23:12 | and both Pilate and Herod became friends on that day with one another, for they were before at enmity between themselves. |
| 23:13 | And Pilate having called together the chief priests, and the rulers, and the people, |
| 23:14 | said unto them, `Ye brought to me this man as perverting the people, and lo, I before you having examined, found in this man no fault in those things ye bring forward against him; |
| 23:15 | no, nor yet Herod, for I sent you back unto him, and lo, nothing worthy of death is having been done by him; |
| 23:16 | having chastised, therefore, I will release him,' |
| 23:17 | for it was necessary for him to release to them one at every feast, |
| 23:18 | and they cried out -- the whole multitude -- saying, `Away with this one, and release to us Barabbas,' |
| 23:19 | who had been, because of a certain sedition made in the city, and murder, cast into prison. |
| 23:20 | Pilate again then -- wishing to release Jesus -- called to them, |
| 23:21 | but they were calling out, saying, `Crucify, crucify him.' |
| 23:22 | And he a third time said unto them, `Why, what evil did he? no cause of death did I find in him; having chastised him, then, I will release `him'.' |
| 23:23 | And they were pressing with loud voices asking him to be crucified, and their voices, and those of the chief priests, were prevailing, |
| 23:24 | and Pilate gave judgment for their request being done, |
| 23:25 | and he released him who because of sedition and murder hath been cast into the prison, whom they were asking, and Jesus he gave up to their will. |
| 23:26 | And as they led him away, having taken hold on Simon, a certain Cyrenian, coming from the field, they put on him the cross, to bear `it' behind Jesus. |
| 23:27 | And there was following him a great multitude of the people, and of women, who also were beating themselves and lamenting him, |
| 23:28 | and Jesus having turned unto them, said, `Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me, but for yourselves weep ye, and for your children; |
| 23:29 | for, lo, days do come, in which they shall say, Happy the barren, and wombs that did not bare, and paps that did not give suck; |
| 23:30 | then they shall begin to say to the mountains, Fall on us, and to the hills, Cover us; -- |
| 23:31 | for, if in the green tree they do these things -- in the dry what may happen?' |
| 23:32 | And there were also others -- two evil-doers -- with him, to be put to death; |
| 23:33 | and when they came to the place that is called Skull, there they crucified him and the evil-doers, one on the right hand and one on the left. |
| 23:34 | And Jesus said, `Father, forgive them, for they have not known what they do;' and parting his garments they cast a lot. |
| 23:35 | And the people were standing, looking on, and the rulers also were sneering with them, saying, `Others he saved, let him save himself, if this be the Christ, the choice one of God.' |
| 23:36 | And mocking him also were the soldiers, coming near and offering vinegar to him, |
| 23:37 | and saying, `If thou be the king of the Jews, save thyself.' |
| 23:38 | And there was also a superscription written over him, in letters of Greek, and Roman, and Hebrew, `This is the King of the Jews.' |
| 23:39 | And one of the evil-doers who were hanged, was speaking evil of him, saying, `If thou be the Christ, save thyself and us.' |
| 23:40 | And the other answering, was rebuking him, saying, `Dost thou not even fear God, that thou art in the same judgment? |
| 23:41 | and we indeed righteously, for things worthy of what we did we receive back, but this one did nothing out of place;' |
| 23:42 | and he said to Jesus, `Remember me, lord, when thou mayest come in thy reign;' |
| 23:43 | and Jesus said to him, `Verily I say to thee, To-day with me thou shalt be in the paradise.' |
| 23:44 | And it was, as it were, the sixth hour, and darkness came over all the land till the ninth hour, |
| 23:45 | and the sun was darkened, and the vail of the sanctuary was rent in the midst, |
| 23:46 | and having cried with a loud voice, Jesus said, `Father, to Thy hands I commit my spirit;' and these things having said, he breathed forth the spirit. |
| 23:47 | And the centurion having seen what was done, did glorify God, saying, `Really this man was righteous;' |
| 23:48 | and all the multitudes who were come together to this sight, beholding the things that came to pass, smiting their breasts did turn back; |
| 23:49 | and all his acquaintances stood afar off, and women who did follow him from Galilee, beholding these things. |
| 23:50 | And lo, a man, by name Joseph, being a counsellor, a man good and righteous, |
| 23:51 | -- he was not consenting to their counsel and deed -- from Arimathea, a city of the Jews, who also himself was expecting the reign of God, |
| 23:52 | he, having gone near to Pilate, asked the body of Jesus, |
| 23:53 | and having taken it down, he wrapped it in fine linen, and placed it in a tomb hewn out, where no one was yet laid. |
| 23:54 | And the day was a preparation, and sabbath was approaching, |
| 23:55 | and the women also who have come with him out of Galilee having followed after, beheld the tomb, and how his body was placed, |
| 23:56 | and having turned back, they made ready spices and ointments, and on the sabbath, indeed, they rested, according to the command. |

| 23:2 | And they beganne to accuse him sayinge: We have founde this felowe pervertynge the people and forbiddynge to paye tribute to Cesar: sayinge that he is Christ a kynge. |
| 23:3 | And Pylate apposed him sayinge: arte thou the kynge of the iewes? He answered him and sayde: thou sayest it. |
| 23:4 | Then sayde Pylate to the hye prestes and to the people: I fynde noo faute in this man. |
| 23:5 | And they were the moore fearce sayinge. He moveth the people teachynge thorowout all Iewry and beganne at Galile even to this place. |
| 23:6 | When Pilate hearde mencion of Galile he axed whether the ma were of Galile. |
| 23:7 | And assone as he knewe that he was of Herodes iurisdiccion he sent him to Herode which was also at Ierusalem in those dayes. |
| 23:8 | And when Herode sawe Iesus he was excedinglie gladde. For he was desyrous to se him of a longe season because he had hearde many thinges of him and trusted to have sene some myracle done by him. |
| 23:9 | Then questeoned he with him of many thinges. But he answered him not one worde. |
| 23:10 | The hye prestes and scribes stode forthe and accused him straytly. |
| 23:11 | And Herod wt his men of warre despysed him and mocked him and arayed him in whyte and sent him agayne to Pylate. |
| 23:12 | And the same daye Pylate and Herod were made frendes togeder. For before they were at variaunce. |
| 23:13 | And Pylate called to geder the hye prestes and the rulers and the people |
| 23:14 | and sayde vnto them: Ye have brought this man vnto me as one that perverted the people. And beholde I have examined him before you and have founde no faute in this man of those thinges where of ye accuse him. |
| 23:15 | No nor yet Herode. For I sent you to him: and lo no thinge worthy of deeth is done to him. |
| 23:16 | I will therfore chasten him and let him lowsse. |
| 23:17 | For of necessite he must have let one lowse vnto them at that feast. |
| 23:18 | And all the people cryed at once sayinge: awaye with him and delyvre to vs Barrabas: |
| 23:19 | which for insurrccion made in the cite and morther was cast into preson. |
| 23:20 | Pylate spake agayne to them willynge to let Iesus lowse. |
| 23:21 | And they cryed sayinge: Crucify him Crucify him |
| 23:22 | He sayde vnto them the thyrde tyme. What evyll hath he done? I fynde no cause of deeth in him. I will therfore chasten him and let him lowse. |
| 23:23 | And they cryed with loude voyce and required that he myght be crucifyed. And the voyce of them and of the hye Prestes prevayled. |
| 23:24 | And Pylate gave sentence that it shuld be as they required |
| 23:25 | and let lowse vnto them him that for insurreccion and morther was cast into preson whom they desyred: and delyvered Iesus to do with him what they wolde. |
| 23:26 | And as they ledde him awaye they caught one Symon of Syrene commynge out of the felde: and on him layde they the crosse to beare it after Iesus. |
| 23:27 | And ther folowed him a greate company of people and of wemen which weme bewayled and lamented him. |
| 23:28 | But Iesus turned backe vnto them and sayde: Doughters of Ierusalem wepe not for me: but wepe for youre selves and for youre chyldren. |
| 23:29 | For beholde the dayes will come when men shall saye: happy are the baren and the wombes that never bare and the pappes which never gave sucke. |
| 23:30 | Then shall they beginne to saye to the mountaynes fall on vs: and to the hilles cover vs. |
| 23:31 | For yf they do this to a grene tree what shalbe done to the drye? |
| 23:32 | And ther were two evyll doers ledde with him to be slayne. |
| 23:33 | And when they were come to the place which is called Calvary there they crucified him and the evyll doers one on ryght honde and the other on the lefte. |
| 23:34 | Then sayde Iesus: father forgeve them for they woot not what they do. And they parted his rayment and cast loottes. |
| 23:35 | And the people stode and behelde. And the rulers mocked him with thee saying: he holpe other men let him helpe him selfe yf he be Christ the chosen of god. |
| 23:36 | The soudiers also mocked him and came and gave him veneger |
| 23:37 | and sayde: yf thou be that kynge of ye Iewes save thy silfe. |
| 23:38 | And his superscripcio was writte over him in greke in latine and Ebreu: This is the kynge of the Iewes. |
| 23:39 | And one of the evyll doers which hanged rayled on him sayinge: If thou be Christ save thy selfe and vs. |
| 23:40 | The other answered and rebuked him sayinge. Net herfearest thou god because thou arte in the same damnacion? |
| 23:41 | We are ryghteously punesshed for we receave accordynge to oure dedes: But this man hath done nothinge amysse. |
| 23:42 | And he sayde vnto Iesus: Lorde remember me when thou comest into thy kyngdome. |
| 23:43 | And Iesus sayde vnto him: Verely I saye vnto the to daye shalt thou be with me in Paradyse. |
| 23:44 | And it was about the sixt houre. And ther came a darcknes over all the londe vntyll ye nynth houre |
| 23:45 | and the sonne was darckened. And the vayle of the temple dyd rent even thorow the myddes. |
| 23:46 | And Iesus cryed with a greate voyce and sayd: Father into thy hondes I comende my sprete. And when he thus had sayd he gave vp the goost. |

| 23:48 | And all the people that came to geder to that sight beholdynge the thinges which were done: smoote their bestes and returned home. |

| 23:50 | And beholde ther was a man named Ioseph a councelloure and was a good man and a iuste |
| 23:51 | and dyd not consent to the counsell and dede of them which was of Aramathia a cite of the Iewes: which same also wayted for ye kyngdome of God: |
| 23:52 | he went vnto Pilate and begged the boddy of Iesus |
| 23:53 | and toke it doune and wrapped it in a lynnen clooth and layed it in an hewen toumbe wherin was never man before layed. |
| 23:54 | And that daye was ye Saboth even and the Saboth drue on. |
| 23:55 | The wemen that folowed after which came with him from Galile behelde the sepulcre and how his body was layed. |
| 23:56 | And they returned and prepared odoures and oyntmetes: but rested the Saboth daye accordynge to the commaundement. |

| 23:28 | But Iesus turned him aboute vnto the, and sayde: Ye doughters of Ierusale, wepe not ouer me: but wepe ouer youre selues, and ouer youre childre. |
| 23:29 | For beholde, the tyme wil come, wherin it shal be sayde: Blessed are the baren, and the wombes that haue not borne, and the pappes that haue not geuen sucke. |

| 23:35 | And the people stode and behelde. And the rulers mocked him with them, and sayde: He hath helped other, let him helpe him self now, yf he be Christ ye chosen of God. |
| 23:36 | The soudyers also mocked him, wete vnto him, & brought him vyneger, |
| 23:37 | and sayde: Yf thou be the kynge of the Iewes, then helpe thyself. |
| 23:38 | And aboue ouer him was this superscripcion wrytten with letters of Greke, Latyn, and Hebrue: This is the kynge of the Iewes. |
| 23:39 | And one of the myssdoers that hanged there, blasphemed him, and sayde: Yf thou be Christ, then helpe thy self and vs. |
| 23:40 | Then answered the other, rebuked him, and sayde: And thou fearest not God also, which art yet in like danacion. |
| 23:41 | And truly we are therin be right, for we receaue acordinge to oure dedes. As for this man, he hath done nothinge amysse. |
| 23:42 | And he sayde vnto Iesus: LORDE, remembre me, whan thou commest in to thy kyngdome. |
| 23:43 | And Iesus sayde vnto him: Verely I saye vnto the: To daye shalt thou be with me in Paradyse. |
| 23:44 | And it was aboute the sixte houre, and there was darknesse ouer ye whole londe vntyll the nyenth houre. |

| 23:50 | And beholde, a ma named Ioseph, a Senatour, which was a good iust man, |
| 23:51 | the same had not consented vnto their councell, and dede, which was of Arimathia a cite of the Iewes, which same also wayted for the kyngdome of God: |
| 23:52 | he wete vnto Pilate, and axed the body of Iesus. |
| 23:53 | And the toke him downe, wrapped him in a lynnen cloth, and layed him in a hewen sepulcre, wherin neuer man was layed. |
| 23:54 | And it was the daye of preparinge, and the Sabbath drue on. |
| 23:55 | The wemen that were come with him out of Galile, folowed him, and behelde the Sepulcre, & how his body was layed. |
| 23:56 | But they returned, and made ready the spyces & anontmetes. And vpon the Sabbath they rested, acordinge to the lawe. |
