John - Chapter: 1

>
1:1In the beginning was the Word, & the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
1:2The same was in the beginning with God.
1:3All things were made by him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.
1:4In him was life, and the life was the light of men.
1:5And the light shineth in darknesse, and the darknesse comprehended it not.
1:6There was a man sent from God, whose name was Iohn.
1:7The same came for a witnesse, to beare witnesse of the light, that all men through him might beleeue.
1:8Hee was not that light, but was sent to beare witnesse of that light.
1:9That was the true light, which lighteth euery man that commeth into the world.
1:10Hee was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
1:11Hee came vnto his owne, and his owne receiued him not.
1:12But as many as receiued him, to them gaue hee power to become the sonnes of God, euen to them that beleeue on his Name:
1:13Which were borne, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
1:14And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among vs (& we beheld his glory, the glory as of the onely begotten of the Father) full of grace and trueth.
1:15Iohn bare witnesse of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that commeth after me, is preferred before me, for he was before me.
1:16And of his fulnesse haue all wee receiued, and grace for grace.
1:17For the Law was giuen by Moses, but grace and trueth came by Iesus Christ.
1:18No man hath seene God at any time: the onely begotten Sonne, which is in the bosome of the Father, he hath declared him.
1:19And this is the record of Iohn, when the Iewes sent Priests and Leuites from Hierusalem, to aske him, Who art thou?
1:20And he confessed, and denied not: but confessed, I am not the Christ.
1:21And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elias? And he saith, I am not. Art thou that Prophet? And hee answered, No.
1:22Then said they vnto him, Who art thou, that we may giue an answere to them that sent vs? What sayest thou of thy selfe?
1:23He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wildernesse: Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the Prophet Esaias.
1:24And they which were sent, were of the Pharises.
1:25And they asked him, and said vnto him, Why baptizest thou then, if thou be not that Christ, nor Elias, neither that Prophet?
1:26Iohn answered them, saying, I baptize with water, but there standeth one among you, whom ye know not,
1:27He it is, who comming after me, is preferred before me, whose shoes latchet I am not worthy to vnloose.
1:28These things were done in Bethabara beyond Iordane, where Iohn was baptizing.
1:29The next day, Iohn seeth Iesus comming vnto him, and saith, Behold the Lambe of God, which taketh away the sinne of the world.
1:30This is he of whom I said, After me commeth a man, which is preferred before me: for he was before me.
1:31And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therfore am I come baptizing with water.
1:32And Iohn bare record saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heauen, like a Doue, and it abode vpon him.
1:33And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said vnto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, & remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the holy Ghost.
1:34And I saw, and bare record, that this is the sonne of God.
1:35Againe the next day after, Iohn stood, and two of his disciples.
1:36And looking vpon Iesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lambe of God.
1:37And the two disciples heard him speake, and they followed Iesus.
1:38Then Iesus turned, and saw them following, and saith vnto them, What seeke ye? They said vnto him, Rabbi, (which is to say being interpreted, Master) where dwellest thou?
1:39He saith vnto them, Come and see. They came and saw where he dwelt, and abode with him that day: for it was about the tenth houre.
1:40One of the two which heard Iohn speake, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peters brother.
1:41He first findeth his owne brother Simon, and saith vnto him, We haue found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ.
1:42And he brought him to Iesus. And when Iesus beheld him, he said, Thou art Simon the sonne of Iona, thou shalt be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, a stone.
1:43The day following, Iesus would goe foorth into Galilee, & findeth Philip, & saith vnto him, Follow me.
1:44Now Philip was of Bethsaida, the citie of Andrew and Peter.
1:45Philip findeth Nathaneel, and saith vnto him, We haue found him of whom Moses in the Law, and the Prophets did write, Iesus of Nazareth the sonne of Ioseph.
1:46And Nathaneel said vnto him, Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saith vnto him, Come and see.
1:47Iesus saw Nathaneel comming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed in whom is no guile.
1:48Nathaneel sayeth vnto him, Whence knowest thou me? Iesus answered, and said vnto him, Before that Philip called thee, when thou wast vnder the figge tree, I saw thee.
1:49Nathaneel answered, and saith vnto him, Rabbi, thou art the Sonne of God, thou art the king of Israel.
1:50Iesus answered, and said vnto him, Because I said vnto thee, I saw thee vnder the figge tree, beleeuest thou? thou shalt see greater things then these.
1:51And hee saith vnto him, Uerily, verily I say vnto you, heereafter yee shall see heauen open, and the Angels of God ascending, and descending vpon the sonne of man.

1:1In the begynnynge was the worde, and the worde was with God, and God was ye worde.
1:2The same was in the begynnynge wt God.
1:3All thinges were made by the same, and without the same was made nothinge that was made.
1:4In him was the life, and the life was the light of men:
1:5and the light shyneth in the darknesse, and the darknesse comprehended it not.
1:6There was sent from God a man, whose name was Ihon.
1:7The same came for a witnesse, to beare wytnesse of ye light, that thorow him they all might beleue.
1:8He was not that light, but that he might beare witnesse of ye light.
1:9That was the true light, which lighteth all men, that come in to this worlde.
1:10He was in the worlde, & the worlde was made by him, and ye worlde knewe him not.
1:11He came in to his awne, and his awne receaued him not.
1:12But as many as receaued him, to them gaue he power to be the children of God: euen soch as beleue in his name.
1:13Which are not borne of bloude, ner of the wyl of the flesh, ner of the wyl of man, but of God.
1:14And the worde became flesh, and dwelt amonge vs: and we sawe his glory, a glory as of the onely begotte sonne of the father, full of grace and trueth.
1:15Ihon bare wytnesse of him, cryed, and sayde: It was this, of whom I spake: After me shal he come, that was before me, For he was or euer I:
1:16and of his fulnesse haue all we receaued grace for grace.
1:17For the lawe was geuen by Moses, grace and trueth came by Iesus Christ.
1:18No man hath sene God at eny tyme. The onely begotte sonne which is in the bosome of the father, he hath declared the same vnto vs.
1:19And this is the recorde of Ihon, whan the Iewes sent prestes and Leuites fro Ierusalem, to axe him: Who art thou?
1:20And he confessed and denyed not. And he confessed, and sayde: I am not Christ.
1:21And they axed him: What the? Art thou Elias? He sayde: I am not. Art thou the Prophet? And he answered: No.
1:22Then sayde they vnto him: What art thou the, yt we maye geue answere vnto the that sent vs? What sayest thou of yi self?
1:23He sayde: I am ye voyce of a cryer in the wyldernesse. Make straight ye waye of the LORDE. As ye prophet Esay sayde:
1:24And they that were sent, were of ye Pharises.
1:25And they axed him, & sayde vnto him: Why baptysest thou then, yf thou be not Christ, ner Elias, ner a prophet?
1:26Ihon answered them, and sayde: I baptyse with water, but there is one come in amonge you, whom ye knowe not.
1:27It is he that cometh after me, which was before me: whose shue lachet I am not worthy to vnlowse.
1:28This was done at Bethabara beyonde Iordane, where Ihon dyd baptyse.
1:29The nexte daye after, Ihon sawe Iesus commynge vnto him, and sayde: Beholde the labe of God, which taketh awaye the synne of the worlde.
1:30This is he, of whom I sayde vnto you: After me commeth a man, which was before me. For he was or euer I,
1:31and I knewe him not: but that he shulde be declared in Israel, therfore am I come to baptyse with water.
1:32And Ihon bare recorde, & sayde: I sawe the sprete descende from heauen like vnto a doue, and abode vpon him,
1:33& I knewe him not. But he that sent me to baptyse with water, ye same sayde vnto me: Vpon whom thou shalt se the sprete descende and tary styll on him, the same is he, that baptyseth with the holy goost.
1:34And I sawe it, and bare recorde, that this is the sonne of God.
1:35The nexte daye after, Ihon stode agayne, and two of his disciples.
1:36And wha he sawe Iesus walkynge, he sayde: Beholde the labe of God.
1:37And two of his disciples herde him speake, and folowed Iesus.
1:38And Iesus turned him aboute, and sawe them folowinge, and sayde vnto the: What seke ye? They sayde vnto him: Rabbi, (which is to saye by interpretacion, Master.) Where art thou at lodginge?
1:39He sayde vnto them: Come and se it. They came and sawe it, & abode with him the same daye. It was aboute the tenth houre.
1:40One of the two, which herde Ihon speake, and folowed Iesus, was Andrew the brother of Symon Peter:
1:41the same founde first his brother Symon, and sayde vnto him: We haue founde Messias (which is by interpretacion, ye Anoynted)
1:42and brought him to Iesus. Whan Iesus behelde him, he sayde: Thou art Symon the sonne of Ionas, thou shalt be called Cephas, which is by interpretacion, a stone.
1:43The nexte daye after, wolde Iesus go agayne in to Galile, and founde Philippe, and sayde vnto him: Folowe me.
1:44Philippe was of Bethsaida the cite of Andrew and Peter.
1:45Philippe founde Nathanael, and sayde vnto him: We haue founde him, of who Moses in the lawe, and ye prophetes haue wrytten, euen Iesus the sonne of Ioseph of Nazareth.
1:46And Nathanaell sayde vnto him: What good can come out of Nazareth? Philippe sayde vnto him: Come, and se.
1:47Iesus sawe Nathanael comynge to him, and sayde of him: Beholde, a righte Israelite, in whom is no gyle.
1:48Nathanael sayde vnto him: From whence knowest thou me? Iesus answered, and sayde vnto him: Before yt Philippe called the, whan thou wast vnder the fygge tre, I sawe the.
1:49Nathanaell answered, and sayde vnto hi: Rabbi, thou art ye sonne of God, thou art ye kynge of Israel.
1:50Iesus answered, & sayde vnto him: Because I sayde vnto the, that I sawe the vnder the fygge tre, thou beleuest: thou shalt se yet greater thinges the these.
1:51And he sayde vnto him: Verely verely I saye vnto you: Fro this tyme forth shal ye se the heauen open, and the angels of God goinge vp & downe ouer the sonne of man.

1:1In the bigynnyng was the word, and the word was at God, and God was the word.
1:2This was in the bigynnyng at God.
1:3Alle thingis weren maad bi hym, and withouten hym was maad no thing, that thing that was maad.
1:4In hym was lijf, and the lijf was the liyt of men; and the liyt schyneth in derknessis,
1:5and derknessis comprehendiden not it.
1:6A man was sent fro God, to whom the name was Joon.
1:7This man cam in to witnessyng, that he schulde bere witnessing of the liyt, that alle men schulden bileue bi hym.
1:8He was not the liyt, but that he schulde bere witnessing of the liyt.
1:9There was a very liyt, which liytneth ech man that cometh in to this world.
1:10He was in the world, and the world was maad bi hym, and the world knew hym not.
1:11He cam in to his owne thingis, and hise resseyueden hym not.
1:12But hou many euer resseyueden hym, he yaf to hem power to be maad the sones of God, to hem that bileueden in his name; the whiche not of bloodis,
1:13nether of the wille of fleische, nether of the wille of man, but ben borun of God.
1:14And the word was maad man, and dwellyde among vs, and we han seyn the glorie of hym, as the glorie of the `oon bigetun sone of the fadir, ful of grace and of treuthe.
1:15Joon berith witnessyng of hym, and crieth, and seith, This is, whom Y seide, He that schal come aftir me, is maad bifore me, for he was tofor me;
1:16and of the plente of hym we alle han takun, and grace for grace.
1:17For the lawe was youun bi Moises; but grace and treuthe `is maad bi Jhesu Crist.
1:18No man sai euer God, no but the `oon bigetun sone, that is in the bosum of the fadir, he hath teld out.
1:19And this is the witnessyng of Joon, whanne Jewis senten fro Jerusalem prestis and dekenes to hym, that thei schulden axe hym, Who art thou?
1:20He knoulechide, and denyede not, and he knoulechide, For Y am not Crist.
1:21And thei axiden hym, What thanne? Art thou Elie? And he seide, Y am not. Art thou a profete? And he answeride, Nay.
1:22Therfor thei seiden to hym, Who art thou? that we yyue an answere to these that senten vs. What seist thou of thi silf?
1:23He seide, Y am a vois of a crier in deseert, Dresse ye the weie of the Lord, as Ysaie, the prophete, seide.
1:24And thei that weren sent, weren of the Fariseis.
1:25And thei axiden hym, and seiden to hym, What thanne baptisist thou, if thou art not Crist, nether Elie, nether a profete?
1:26Joon answeride to hem, and seide, Y baptise in watir, but in the myddil of you hath stonde oon, that ye knowen not;
1:27he it is, that schal come aftir me, that was maad bifor me, of whom Y am not worthi to louse the thwong of his schoo.
1:28These thingis weren don in Bethanye biyende Jordan, where Joon was baptisyng.
1:29Anothir day Joon say Jhesu comynge to hym, and he seide, Lo! the lomb of God; lo! he that doith awei the synnes of the world.
1:30This is he, that Y seide of, Aftir me is comun a man, which was maad bifor me; for he was rather than Y.
1:31And Y knew hym not, but that he be schewid in Israel, therfor Y cam baptisynge in watir.
1:32And Joon bar witnessyng, and seide, That Y saiy the spirit comynge doun as a culuer fro heuene, and dwellide on hym.
1:33And Y knew hym not; but he that sente me to baptise in watir, seide to me, On whom thou seest the Spirit comynge doun, and dwellynge on hym, this is he, that baptisith in the Hooli Goost.
1:34And Y say, and bar witnessyng, that this is the sone of God.
1:35Anothir dai Joon stood, and tweyne of hise disciplis;
1:36and he biheeld Jhesu walkinge, and seith, Lo! the lomb of God.
1:37And twei disciplis herden hym spekynge,
1:38and folewiden Jhesu. And Jhesu turnede, and say hem suynge hym, and seith to hem, What seken ye? And thei seiden to hym, Rabi, that is to seie, Maistir, where dwellist thou?
1:39And he seith to hem, Come ye, and se. And thei camen, and sayn where he dwellide; and dwelten with hym that dai. And it was as the tenthe our.
1:40And Andrewe, the brother of Symount Petir, was oon of the tweyne, that herden of Joon, and hadden sued hym.
1:41This foond first his brother Symount, and he seide to him, We han foundun Messias, that is to seie, Crist; and he ledde him to Jhesu.
1:42And Jhesus bihelde hym, and seide, Thou art Symount, the sone of Johanna; thou schalt be clepid Cefas, that is to seie, Petre.
1:43And on the morewe he wolde go out in to Galilee, and he foond Filip; and he seith to hym, Sue thou me.
1:44Filip was of Bethsaida, the citee of Andrew and of Petre.
1:45Filip foond Nathanael, and seide to hym, We han foundun Jhesu, the sone of Joseph, of Nazareth, whom Moyses wroot in the lawe and profetis.
1:46And Nathanael seide to hym, Of Nazareth may sum good thing be?
1:47Filip seide to hym, Come, and se. Jhesus siy Nathanael comynge to hym, and seide to hym, Lo! verili a man of Israel, in whom is no gile.
1:48Nathanael seide to hym, Wherof hast thou knowun me? Jhesus `answerde, and seide to hym, Bifor that Filip clepide thee, whanne thou were vndur the fige tree, Y saiy thee. Nathanael answerde to hym,
1:49`and seide, Rabi, thou art the sone of God, thou art kyng of Israel.
1:50Jhesus answerde, and seide to hym, For Y seide to thee, Y sawy thee vndur the fige tre, thou bileuest; thou schalt se more than these thingis.
1:51And he seide to hem, Treuli, treuli, Y seie to you, ye schulen se heuene opened, and the aungels of God stiynge vp and comynge doun on mannys sone.
