John - Chapter: 5

>
5:1After these things there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem,
5:2and there is in Jerusalem by the sheep-`gate' a pool that is called in Hebrew Bethesda, having five porches,
5:3in these were lying a great multitude of the ailing, blind, lame, withered, waiting for the moving of the water,
5:4for a messenger at a set time was going down in the pool, and was troubling the water, the first then having gone in after the troubling of the water, became whole of whatever sickness he was held.
5:5and there was a certain man there being in ailment thirty and eight years,
5:6him Jesus having seen lying, and having known that he is already a long time, he saith to him, `Dost thou wish to become whole?'
5:7The ailing man answered him, `Sir, I have no man, that, when the water may be troubled, he may put me into the pool, and while I am coming, another doth go down before me.'
5:8Jesus saith to him, `Rise, take up thy couch, and be walking;'
5:9and immediately the man became whole, and he took up his couch, and was walking, and it was a sabbath on that day,
5:10the Jews then said to him that hath been healed, `It is a sabbath; it is not lawful to thee to take up the couch.'
5:11He answered them, `He who made me whole -- that one said to me, Take up thy couch, and be walking;'
5:12they questioned him, then, `Who is the man who is saying to thee, Take up thy couch and be walking?'
5:13But he that was healed had not known who he is, for Jesus did move away, a multitude being in the place.
5:14After these things, Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said to him, `Lo, thou hast become whole; sin no more, lest something worse may happen to thee.'
5:15The man went away, and told the Jews that it is Jesus who made him whole,
5:16and because of this were the Jews persecuting Jesus, and seeking to kill him, because these things he was doing on a sabbath.
5:17And Jesus answered them, `My Father till now doth work, and I work;'
5:18because of this, then, were the Jews seeking the more to kill him, because not only was he breaking the sabbath, but he also called God his own Father, making himself equal to God.
5:19Jesus therefore responded and said to them, `Verily, verily, I say to you, The Son is not able to do anything of himself, if he may not see the Father doing anything; for whatever things He may do, these also the Son in like manner doth;
5:20for the Father doth love the Son, and doth shew to him all things that He himself doth; and greater works than these He will shew him, that ye may wonder.
5:21`For, as the Father doth raise the dead, and doth make alive, so also the Son doth make alive whom he willeth;
5:22for neither doth the Father judge any one, but all the judgment He hath given to the Son,
5:23that all may honour the Son according as they honour the Father; he who is not honouring the Son, doth not honour the Father who sent him.
5:24`Verily, verily, I say to you -- He who is hearing my word, and is believing Him who sent me, hath life age-during, and to judgment he doth not come, but hath passed out of the death to the life.
5:25`Verily, verily, I say to you -- There cometh an hour, and it now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God, and those having heard shall live;
5:26for, as the Father hath life in himself, so He gave also to the Son to have life in himself,
5:27and authority He gave him also to do judgment, because he is Son of Man.
5:28`Wonder not at this, because there doth come an hour in which all those in the tombs shall hear his voice,
5:29and they shall come forth; those who did the good things to a rising again of life, and those who practised the evil things to a rising again of judgment.
5:30`I am not able of myself to do anything; according as I hear I judge, and my judgment is righteous, because I seek not my own will, but the will of the Father who sent me.
5:31`If I testify concerning myself, my testimony is not true;
5:32another there is who is testifying concerning me, and I have known that the testimony that he doth testify concerning me is true;
5:33ye have sent unto John, and he hath testified to the truth.
5:34`But I do not receive testimony from man, but these things I say that ye may be saved;
5:35he was the burning and shining lamp, and ye did will to be glad, for an hour, in his light.
5:36`But I have the testimony greater than John's, for the works that the Father gave me, that I might finish them, the works themselves that I do, they testify concerning me, that the Father hath sent me.
5:37`And the Father who sent me Himself hath testified concerning me; ye have neither heard His voice at any time, nor His appearance have ye seen;
5:38and His word ye have not remaining in you, because whom He sent, him ye do not believe.
5:39`Ye search the Writings, because ye think in them to have life age-during, and these are they that are testifying concerning me;
5:40and ye do not will to come unto me, that ye may have life;
5:41glory from man I do not receive,
5:42but I have known you, that the love of God ye have not in yourselves.
5:43`I have come in the name of my Father, and ye do not receive me; if another may come in his own name, him ye will receive;
5:44how are ye able -- ye -- to believe, glory from one another receiving, and the glory that `is' from God alone ye seek not?
5:45`Do not think that I will accuse you unto the Father; there is who is accusing you, Moses -- in whom ye have hoped;
5:46for if ye were believing Moses, ye would have been believing me, for he wrote concerning me;
5:47but if his writings ye believe not, how shall ye believe my sayings?'

5:1After this there was a feast of the Jews; and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
5:2Now there is at Jerusalem by the sheep market a pool, which is called in the Hebrew tongue Bethesda, having five porches.
5:3In these lay a great multitude of impotent folk, of blind, halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water.
5:4For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had.
5:5And a certain man was there, which had an infirmity thirty and eight years.
5:6When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole?
5:7The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me.
5:8Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk.
5:9And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath.
5:10The Jews therefore said unto him that was cured, It is the sabbath day: it is not lawful for thee to carry thy bed.
5:11He answered them, He that made me whole, the same said unto me, Take up thy bed, and walk.
5:12Then asked they him, What man is that which said unto thee, Take up thy bed, and walk?
5:13And he that was healed wist not who it was: for Jesus had conveyed himself away, a multitude being in that place.
5:14Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee.
5:15The man departed, and told the Jews that it was Jesus, which had made him whole.
5:16And therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus, and sought to slay him, because he had done these things on the sabbath day.
5:17But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work.
5:18Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God.
5:19Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.
5:20For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself doeth: and he will shew him greater works than these, that ye may marvel.
5:21For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them; even so the Son quickeneth whom he will.
5:22For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son:
5:23That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him.
5:24Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
5:25Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live.
5:26For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself;
5:27And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man.
5:28Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice,
5:29And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.
5:30I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.
5:31If I bear witness of myself, my witness is not true.
5:32There is another that beareth witness of me; and I know that the witness which he witnesseth of me is true.
5:33Ye sent unto John, and he bare witness unto the truth.
5:34But I receive not testimony from man: but these things I say, that ye might be saved.
5:35He was a burning and a shining light: and ye were willing for a season to rejoice in his light.
5:36But I have greater witness than that of John: for the works which the Father hath given me to finish, the same works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me.
5:37And the Father himself, which hath sent me, hath borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his shape.
5:38And ye have not his word abiding in you: for whom he hath sent, him ye believe not.
5:39Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.
5:40And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.
5:41I receive not honour from men.
5:42But I know you, that ye have not the love of God in you.
5:43I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.
5:44How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only?
5:45Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father: there is one that accuseth you, even Moses, in whom ye trust.
5:46For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me: for he wrote of me.
5:47But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?

5:1After these things, there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
5:2And at Jerusalem is a pool at the Sheep Gate which is called in Hebrew, Bethesda, having five porches.
5:3In these was a great multitude of the infirm lying, blind ones, lame ones, withered ones, awaiting the stirring of the water.
5:4For an angel from time to time descended in the pool and agitated the water. Then the one first entering after the agitation of the water became well, whatever disease he was held by.
5:5But a certain man was there, being in infirmity thirty eight years.
5:6Seeing him lying, and knowing that he had already spent much time, Jesus said to him, Do you desire to become well?
5:7The infirm one answered Him, Lord, I do not have a man, that when the water is agitated he may throw me into the pool; but while I am coming, another goes down before me.
5:8Jesus said to him, Rise up, Take up your cot and walk!
5:9And instantly the man became well, and took up his cot and walked. And it was a sabbath that day.
5:10Then the Jews said to the one having been healed, It is a sabbath. It is not lawful for you to lift up the cot.
5:11He answered them, The One making me well, that One said to me, Lift up your cot and walk.
5:12Then they asked him, Who is the man who told you, Lift up your cot and walk?
5:13But he did not know the One who cured him, for a crowd being in that place, Jesus had withdrawn.
5:14After these things, Jesus found him in the temple and said to him, Behold, you have become well, sin no more that a worse thing not happen to you.
5:15The man went away and told the Jews that Jesus is the One making him well.
5:16And because of this, the Jews persecuted Jesus and lusted to kill Him, because He did these things on a sabbath.
5:17But Jesus answered them, My Father works until now, and I work.
5:18Because of this, therefore, the Jews lusted the more to kill Him, for not only did He break the sabbath, but also called God His own Father, making Himself equal to God.
5:19Then Jesus answered and said to them, Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son is not able to do anything from Himself, except what He may see the Father doing; for whatever that One does, these things also the Son does the same way.
5:20For the Father loves the Son and shows to Him all things which He does. And He will show Him greater works than these in order that you may marvel.
5:21For even as the Father raises the dead, and gives life, so also the Son gives life to whomever He wills.
5:22For the Father judges no one, but has given all judgment to the Son,
5:23so that all may honor the Son, even as they honor the Father. The one not honoring the Son does not honor the Father who has sent Him.
5:24Truly, truly, I say to you, the one who hears My word, and believes the One who has sent Me, has everlasting life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.
5:25Truly, truly, I say to you that an hour is coming, and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and the ones hearing will live.
5:26For even as the Father has life in Himself, so He gave also to the Son to have life in Himself.
5:27And He also gave authority to Him to execute judgment, for He is the Son of man.
5:28Do not marvel at this, for an hour is coming in which all those in the tombs will hear His voice.
5:29And they will come out, the ones having done good into a resurrection of life; and the ones having practiced evil into a resurrection of judgment.
5:30I am able to do nothing from Myself; just as I hear, I judge; and My judgment is just, for I do not seek My will, but the will of the One sending Me, the Father.
5:31If I witness concerning Myself, My witness is not true;
5:32it is Another that witnesses concerning Me, and I know that the witness which He witnesses concerning Me is true.
5:33You have sent to John, and he has testified to the truth.
5:34But I do not receive witness from man, but I say these things that you may be saved.
5:35That one was the burning and shining lamp, and you were willing to exult in his light for an hour.
5:36But I have the greater witness than John's, for the works which the Father has given Me, that I should finish them, the works which I do themselves witness concerning Me, that the Father has sent Me.
5:37And the Father, He sending Me, has Himself borne witness concerning Me. You have neither heard His voice at any time, nor have you seen His form.
5:38And you do not have His word abiding in you, for the One whom that One sent, this One you do not believe.
5:39You search the Scriptures, for you think in them you have everlasting life. And they are the ones witnessing concerning Me.
5:40And you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life.
5:41I do not receive glory from men;
5:42but I have known you, that you do not have the love of God in yourselves.
5:43I have come in the name of My Father, and you do not receive Me. If another comes in his own name, you will receive that one.
5:44How are you able to believe, you who receive glory from one another, and the glory which is from the only God you do not seek?
5:45Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father; there is one accusing you, Moses, in whom you have hoped.
5:46For if you were believing Moses, you would then believe Me; for that one wrote concerning Me.
5:47But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe My words?
