Acts - Chapter: 1


1:1	The former account I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach,
1:2	until the day in which He was taken up, after He through the Holy Spirit had given commandments to the apostles whom He had chosen,
1:3	to whom He also presented Himself alive after His passion by many infallible proofs, being seen by them for forty days and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God.
1:4	And being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, "which," He said, "you have heard from Me;
1:5	because, John truly baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now."
1:6	Therefore, when they had come together, they asked Him, saying, "Lord, will You at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?"
1:7	And He said to them, "It is not for you to know the times or the seasons which the Father has put in His own authority."
1:8	But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and also in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth."
1:9	Now when He had spoken these things, while they watched, He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight.
1:10	And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by them in white clothing,
1:11	who also said, "You men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who is taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven."
1:12	Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a Sabbath day's journey.
1:13	And when they had entered, they went up into an upper room where, Peter, James, John, and Andrew; Philip and Thomas; Bartholomew and Matthew; James the son of Alphaeus and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James, were staying.
1:14	These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brethren.
1:15	And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples (altogether the number of names was about a hundred and twenty), and said,
1:16	"Men and brethren, this Scripture had to be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit spoke beforehand through the mouth of David concerning Judas, who became a guide to those who arrested Jesus;
1:17	because he was numbered with us and obtained a part in this ministry.
1:18	Now this man purchased a field with the wages of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst open in the middle and all his entrails gushed out.
1:19	And it became known to all those dwelling in Jerusalem; so that field is called in their own language, Akel Dama, that is to say, The Field of Blood.
1:20	Because, it is written in the Book of Psalms: 'Let his dwelling place be desolate, and let no one live in it'; and, 'Let another take his position.'
1:21	Therefore, of these men who have accompanied us the entire time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us,
1:22	beginning from the baptism of John to that day when He was taken up from us, one of these must be ordained to be a witness with us of His resurrection."
1:23	And they proposed two: Joseph called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias.
1:24	And they prayed and said, "You, O Lord, who know the hearts of all men, show which of these two You have chosen,
1:25	that he may take part in this ministry and apostleship from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place."
1:26	And they put forward their lots, and the lot fell on Matthias. And he was numbered with the eleven apostles.


1:1	I have made the former treatise, O Theophilus, of al that Jesus began to doe and teach,
1:2	Vntill the day that hee was taken vp, after that hee through the holy Ghost, had giuen commandements vnto the Apostles, whome hee had chosen:
1:3	To whome also he presented himselfe aliue after that he had suffered, by many infallible tokens, being seene of them by the space of fourtie daies, and speaking of those thinges which appertaine to the kingdome of God.
1:4	And when he had gathered them together, he commanded them, that they should not depart from Hierusalem, but to waite for the promise of the Father, which sayde hee, yee haue heard of me.
1:5	For Iohn in deede baptized with water, but ye shall be baptized with the holy Ghost within these fewe daies.
1:6	When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore the kingdome to Israel?
1:7	And hee saide vnto them, It is not for you to know the times, or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his owne power,
1:8	But yee shall receiue power of the holy Ghost, when he shall come on you: and ye shalbe witnesses vnto me both in Hierusalem and in all Iudea, and in Samaria, and vnto the vttermost part of the earth.
1:9	And when he had spoken these things, while they behelde, he was taken vp: for a cloude tooke him vp out of their sight.
1:10	And while they looked stedfastly towarde heauen, as hee went, beholde, two men stoode by them in white apparell,
1:11	Which also sayde, Yee men of Galile, why stande yee gasing into heauen? This Iesus which is taken vp from you into heauen, shall so come, as yee haue seene him goe into heauen.
1:12	Then returned they vnto Hierusalem from the mount that is called the mount of Oliues, which is neere to Hierusalem, being from it a Sabbath daies iourney.
1:13	And when they were come in, they went vp into an vpper chamber, where abode both Peter and Iames, and Iohn, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartlemew, and Matthewe, Iames the sonne of Alpheus, and Simon Zelotes, and Iudas Iames brother.
1:14	These all continued with one accorde in prayer and supplication with the women, and Marie the mother of Iesus, and with his brethren.
1:15	And in those dayes Peter stoode vp in the middes of the disciples, and sayde (nowe the nomber of names that were in one place were about an hundreth and twentie.)
1:16	Yee men and brethren, this scripture must needes haue beene fulfilled, which the holy Ghost by the mouth of Dauid spake before of Iudas, which was guide to them that tooke Iesus.
1:17	For hee was nombred with vs, and had obteined fellowship in this ministration.
1:18	He therefore hath purchased a field with the reward of iniquitie: and when he had throwen downe himselfe headlong, hee brast asunder in the middes, and all his bowels gushed out.
1:19	And it is knowen vnto all the inhabitants of Hierusalem, in so much, that that field is called in their owne language, Aceldama, That is, the field of blood.
1:20	For it is written in the booke of Psalmes, Let his habitation be void, and let no man dwel therein: also, Let another take his charge.
1:21	Wherefore of these men which haue companied with vs, all the time that the Lord Iesus was conuersant among vs,
1:22	Beginning from the baptisme of Iohn vnto the day that hee was taken vp from vs, must one of them bee made a witnesse with vs of his resurrection.
1:23	And they presented two, Ioseph called Barsabas, whose surname was Iustus, and Matthias.
1:24	And they praied, saying, Thou Lord, which knowest the hearts of all men, shewe whether of these two thou hast chosen,
1:25	That he may take the roume of this ministration and Apostleship, from which Iudas hath gone astray, to goe to his owne place.
1:26	Then they gaue foorth their lottes: and the lotte fell on Matthias, and hee was by a common consent counted with the eleuen Apostles.


1:1	In the former treatise (Deare frende Theophilus) I have written of all that Iesus beganne to do and teache
1:2	vntyll the daye in the which he was taken vp after that he thorowe the holy goost had geven commaundementes vnto the Apostles which he had chosen:
1:3	to whom also he shewed him selfe alyve after his passion by many tokens apperynge vnto them fourty dayes and speakynge of the kyngdome of god
1:4	and gaddered them togeder and commaunded the that they shuld not departe from Ierusalem: but to wayte for ye promys of the father whereof ye have herde of me.
1:5	For Iohn baptised wt water: but ye shalbe baptised with the holy goost and that with in this feawe dayes.
1:6	When they were come togeder they axed of him sayinge: Lorde wilt thou at this tyme restore agayne ye kyngdome to Israel?
1:7	And he sayde vnto them: It is not for you to knowe the tymes or the seasons which ye father hath put in his awne power:
1:8	but ye shall receave power of the holy goost which shall come on you. And ye shall be witnesses vnto me in Ierusalem and in all Iewrye and in Samary and even vnto the worldes ende.
1:9	And when he had spoken these thinges whyll they behelde he was take vp and a cloude receaved him vp out of their sight.
1:10	And while they looked stedfastly vp to heaven as he went beholde two men stode by them in white apparell
1:11	which also sayde: ye men of Galile why stonde ye gasinge vp into heave? This same Iesus which is taken vp fro you in to heaven shall so come even as ye haue sene him goo into heaven.
1:12	Then returned they vnto Ierusalem from mount olivete which is nye to Ierusalem coteyninge a Saboth dayes iorney.
1:13	And when they were come in they went vp into a parler where abode both Peter and Iames Iohn and Andrew Philip and Thomas Bartlemew and Mathew Iames the sonne of Alpheus and Simo Zelotes and Iudas Iames sonne.
1:14	These all cotinued with one acorde in prayer and supplicacion with the wemen and Mary the mother of Iesu and with his brethren.
1:15	And in those dayes Peter stode vp in the myddes of the disciples and sayde (the noumbre of names that were to gether were aboute an hondred and twenty)
1:16	Ye men and brethren this scripture must have nedes ben fulfilled which the holy goost thorow ye mouth of David spake before of Iudas which was gyde to them that tooke Iesus.
1:17	For he was noubred with vs and had obtayned fellouship in this ministracion.
1:18	And the same hath now possessed a plot of grounde with the rewarde of iniquite and when he was hanged brast a sondre in ye myddes and all his bowels gusshed oute.
1:19	And it is knowe vnto all the inhabiters of Ierusalem: in so moche that that felde is called in their mother tonge Acheldama that is to saye the bloud felde.
1:20	It is written in the boke of Psalmes: His habitacio be voyde and no man be dwellinge therin: and his bisshoprycke let another take.
1:21	Wherfore of these me which have copanyed with vs all ye tyme that the Lorde Iesus wet in and out amonge vs
1:22	begynninge at the baptyme of Iohn vnto that same daye that he was taken vp from vs must one be ordeyned to be are witnes with vs of his resurreccion.
1:23	And they appoynted two Ioseph called Barsabas (whose syr name was Iustus) and Mathias.
1:24	And they prayed sayinge: thou Lorde which knowest the hertes of all me shewe whether of these two thou hast chosen
1:25	that the one maye take the roume of this ministracion and apostleshippe from the which Iudas by transgression fell that he myght go to his awne place.
1:26	And they gave forthe their lottes and the lot fell on Mathias and he was counted with the eleven Apostles.
