1:3to whom also he shewed him selfe aliue after his passion by many tokens, apperynge vnto them fourty dayes, & speakinge of the kyngdome of God,
1:4& gathered them together, and commaunded them, that they shoulde not departe from Hierusalem: but to wayt for the promys of the father, wherof ye haue hearde of me.
1:5For Iohn baptysed with water: but ye shal be baptised with the holy ghost, and that wyth in thys feawe dayes.
1:6When they were come together they axed of him saiynge: Lorde wylt thou at thys tyme restore againe the kyngdome to Israel?
1:7And he sayed vnto them: It is not for you to know the tymes or the seasons which the father hath put in hys owne power
1:8but ye shall receiue power of the holy ghost, whiche shall come on you. And ye shall be witnesses vnto me in Hierusalem, and in al Iewrye, and in Samary and euen vnto the worldes ende.
1:9And when he had spoken these thynges whyle they beheld, he was taken vp, and a cloud receiued him vp out of their sighte,
1:10And while they loked stedfastlye vp to heauen as he went, beholde two men stode by them in whyt apparell,
1:11whyche also sayde: ye men of Galile, why stande ye gasynge vp into heauen? This same Iesus which is taken from you into heauen, shal so come, euen as ye haue sene hym go into heauen.
1:12Then returned they vnto Hierusalem from mounte Oliuete, whiche is nie to Hierusalem counteynynge a saboth dayes iorney.

1:15And in those dayes Peter stode vp in the myddes of the dyscyples and sayde (the numbre of names that were together, were about an hundred and twenty)
1:16Ye men and brethren this scripture muste haue nedes ben fulfilled, which the holy ghost through the mouth of Dauid spake before of Iudas, whiche was gyde to them that toke Iesus.
1:17For he was noumbred wyth vs and had obtayned felowshype in this ministracion.
1:18And the same hath now possessed a plot of grounde with the rewarde of iniquitie, and when he was hanged, brast a sondre in the myddes. and all his bowels gushed out.
1:19And it is knowen vnto all the inhabiters of Ierusalem, in so much that, that felde is called in theyr mother tonge Acheldama, that is to say, the bloude fielde.
1:20It is written in the boke of Psalmes: His habitacion be voide, and no man be dwelling ther in: and his Byshoprycke let another take.
1:21Wherfore of these men whiche haue companyed with vs all the tyme that the Lorde Iesus went in and oute among vs,
1:22beginning at the baptisme of Iohn, vnto that same daye that he was taken vp from vs, muste one be ordeyned to beare wytnes with vs of hys resurreccion.
1:23And they apoynted two, Ioseph called Barsabas (whose syr name was Iustus) and Mathias.
1:24And they praysed saiynge: thou Lorde whyche knowest the hertes af all men, shewe whether of these two thou hast chosen,
1:25that the one may take the roume of this mynystracion and Apostleshippe, from that which Iudas by transgression fel, that he myght go to his owne place.
1:26And they gaue forth theyr lottes, and the lot fell on Mathias, and he was counted with the eleuen Apostles.

1:1In the former treatyse (Deare Theophylus) we haue spoken of all that Iesus beganne to do and teache,
1:2vntyll the daye in which he was taken vp, after that he, thorow the holy goost, had geuen commaundementes vnto the Apostles, whom he had chosen:
1:3to whom also he shewed hym selfe alyue after hys passion (and that by many tokens) appearynge vnto them fourtye dayes, and speakynge of the kyngdome of God,
1:4and gathered them together, and commaunded them, that they shulde not departe from Ierusalem: but to wayte for the promys of the father wherof (sayeth he) ye haue hearde of me.
1:5For Iohn truly baptysed with water, but ye shalbe baptysed with the holy goost after these feawe dayes.
1:6When they therfore were come together, they asked of him, sayinge: Lorde, wilt thou at this tyme, restore agayne the kyngdome to Israel?
1:7And he sayde vnto them: It is not for you to knowe the tymes, or the seasons, which the father hath put in his awne power:
1:8but ye shal receaue power after that the holy goost is come vpon you. And ye shalbe witnesses vnto me not onely in Ierusalem, but also in all Iewry and in Samary, and euen vnto the worldes ende.
1:9And when he had spoken these thynges, whyle they beheld, he was taken vp an hye, & a cloude receaued him vp out of their sight.
1:10And while they looked stedfastly vp towarde heauen, as he went, beholde, two men stode by them in whyte apparell,
1:11which also sayd: ye men of Galile, why stande ye gasynge vp into heauen? This same Iesus which is taken vp from you into heauen, shall so come, euen as ye haue sene him go into heauen.
1:12Then returned they vnto Ierusalem from the mount (that is called Olyuete) which is from Ierusalem, a Saboth dayes iorney.
1:13And when they were come in, they went vp into a parler, where aboade both Peter and Iames, and Iohn and Andrew, Philip & Thomas, Barthelemew and Mathew, Iames the sonne of Alpheus, and Simon Zelotes, and Iudas the brother of Iames.
1:14These all contynued with one accorde in prayer and supplicacyon with the wemen & Mary the mother of Iesu, and with hys brethren.
1:15And in those dayes Peter stode vp in the myddes of the discyples, and sayde (the nombre of names that were together, were aboute an hundred and twentye.)
1:16Ye men & brethren, thys scripture must haue nedes ben fulfylled, which the holy goost thorowe the mouth of Dauid spake before of Iudas, which was gyde to them that toke Iesus.
1:17For he was noumbred with vs, and had obtayned felowshypp in thys mynystracyon.
1:18And the same hath now possessed a plat of grounde with the rewarde of iniquite: and when he was hanged, he burst a sondre in the myddes, and all his bowels gusshed out.
1:19And it is knowen vnto all the inhabiters of Ierusalem: in so moch that the same felde is called in their mother tonge, Acheldama, that is to saye, the bloude felde.
1:20For it is wrytten in the boke of Psalmes: hys habitacyon be voyde, and no man be dwellynge therin: and his Bysshoprycke let another take.
1:21Wherfore of these men which haue companyed with vs (all the tyme that the Lorde Iesus had all hys conuersacyon amonge vs,
1:22begynnynge at the baptyme of Iohn, vnto that same daye that he was taken vp from vs) must one be ordeyned, to be a witnes with vs of hys resurreccyon.
1:23And they apoynted two, Ioseph which is called Barsabas (whose syr name was Iustus) and Mathias,
1:24And whan they prayed they sayde: thou Lorde, which knowest the hertes of all men, shewe whether of these two thou hast chosen:
1:25that he maye take the roume of thys ministracyon and Apostleshypp, from which Iudas by transgressyon fell, that he myght go to hys awne place.
1:26And they gaue forth their lottes, and the lot fel on Mathias, and he was counted with the eleuen Apostles.

1:1I have made the former treatise, O Theophilus, of al that Jesus began to doe and teach,
1:2Vntill the day that hee was taken vp, after that hee through the holy Ghost, had giuen commandements vnto the Apostles, whome hee had chosen:
1:3To whome also he presented himselfe aliue after that he had suffered, by many infallible tokens, being seene of them by the space of fourtie daies, and speaking of those thinges which appertaine to the kingdome of God.
1:4And when he had gathered them together, he commanded them, that they should not depart from Hierusalem, but to waite for the promise of the Father, which sayde hee, yee haue heard of me.
1:5For Iohn in deede baptized with water, but ye shall be baptized with the holy Ghost within these fewe daies.
1:6When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore the kingdome to Israel?
1:7And hee saide vnto them, It is not for you to know the times, or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his owne power,
1:8But yee shall receiue power of the holy Ghost, when he shall come on you: and ye shalbe witnesses vnto me both in Hierusalem and in all Iudea, and in Samaria, and vnto the vttermost part of the earth.
1:9And when he had spoken these things, while they behelde, he was taken vp: for a cloude tooke him vp out of their sight.
1:10And while they looked stedfastly towarde heauen, as hee went, beholde, two men stoode by them in white apparell,
1:11Which also sayde, Yee men of Galile, why stande yee gasing into heauen? This Iesus which is taken vp from you into heauen, shall so come, as yee haue seene him goe into heauen.
1:12Then returned they vnto Hierusalem from the mount that is called the mount of Oliues, which is neere to Hierusalem, being from it a Sabbath daies iourney.
1:13And when they were come in, they went vp into an vpper chamber, where abode both Peter and Iames, and Iohn, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartlemew, and Matthewe, Iames the sonne of Alpheus, and Simon Zelotes, and Iudas Iames brother.
1:14These all continued with one accorde in prayer and supplication with the women, and Marie the mother of Iesus, and with his brethren.
1:15And in those dayes Peter stoode vp in the middes of the disciples, and sayde (nowe the nomber of names that were in one place were about an hundreth and twentie.)
1:16Yee men and brethren, this scripture must needes haue beene fulfilled, which the holy Ghost by the mouth of Dauid spake before of Iudas, which was guide to them that tooke Iesus.
1:17For hee was nombred with vs, and had obteined fellowship in this ministration.
1:18He therefore hath purchased a field with the reward of iniquitie: and when he had throwen downe himselfe headlong, hee brast asunder in the middes, and all his bowels gushed out.
1:19And it is knowen vnto all the inhabitants of Hierusalem, in so much, that that field is called in their owne language, Aceldama, That is, the field of blood.
1:20For it is written in the booke of Psalmes, Let his habitation be void, and let no man dwel therein: also, Let another take his charge.
1:21Wherefore of these men which haue companied with vs, all the time that the Lord Iesus was conuersant among vs,
1:22Beginning from the baptisme of Iohn vnto the day that hee was taken vp from vs, must one of them bee made a witnesse with vs of his resurrection.
1:23And they presented two, Ioseph called Barsabas, whose surname was Iustus, and Matthias.
1:24And they praied, saying, Thou Lord, which knowest the hearts of all men, shewe whether of these two thou hast chosen,
1:25That he may take the roume of this ministration and Apostleship, from which Iudas hath gone astray, to goe to his owne place.
1:26Then they gaue foorth their lottes: and the lotte fell on Matthias, and hee was by a common consent counted with the eleuen Apostles.
