Acts - Chapter: 4

>
4:1As they spake vnto the people: the Priestes and the Rular of the Temple, and the Saduces came vpon them,
4:2taking it greuouslye that they taughte the people and preached in Iesus the resurreccion frome deathe.
4:3And layed handes on them, and putte them in holde vntyll the nexte daie, for it was nowe euen tyde.
4:4Howe be it, manye of them which hearde the wordes, beleued: and the numbre of the men was about fyue thousande.
4:5And it chaunced on the morowe that theyr rulars, and elders, and scribes,
4:6as Annas the chiefe Prieste, and Cayphas, and Iohn, and Alexander, and as many as were of the hye priestes gathered together at Ierusalem,
4:7and set them before them, & axed: by what power or in what name haue ye done this syrs?
4:8Then Peter full of the holy ghost sayed vnto them: ye rulars of the people, and elders of Israel,
4:9if we thys day are examined of the good dede done to the sicke man by what meanes he is made whole:
4:10be it knowen vnto you all and to all the people of Israel, that in the name of Iesus Christe of Nazareth, whom ye crucifyed, and whom God raysed agayne from deathe, euen by hym doth thys man stande here presente before you whole.
4:11This is the stone cast asyde of you builders, which is set in the chiefe place of the corner.
4:12Neither is ther saluacion in any other. Nor yet also is there any other name geuen to men wherin we muste be saued.
4:13When they sawe the boldnes of Peter & Iohn and vnderstode that, they were vnlerned men and lay people, they meruailed, and they knew then that they were with Iesu:
4:14and beholdinge also the man whiche was healed standynge wyth them, they coulde not saye agaynst it.
4:15But they commaunded them to go a syde out of the counsell, and counceled amonge them selues
4:16saiynge: what shall we do to these men? For a manifeste signe is done by them, and is openlye knowen to all them that dwell in Hierusalem, and we can not denie it.
4:17But that it be noised no further among the people, let vs threaten and charge them that they speake henceforth to no man in this name.
4:18And they called them and commaunded them that in no wyse they should speake or teache in the name of Iesu.
4:19But Peter and Iohn aunswered to them and sayd: whether it be ryght in the syght of God to obey you more then God, iudge ye.
4:20For we can not. But speake that whiche we haue sene and heard.
4:21So threatened they them and let them go, and founde nothinge howe to punyshe them, because of the people. For all men lauded God for the myracle which was done,
4:22for the man was aboue fourty yeare olde, on whom thys myracle of healynge was shewed.
4:23Assone as they were let go, they came to their fellowes, and shewed all that the hye priestes and elders had sayed to them.
4:24And when they hearde that, they lifte vp their voices to God with one accorde, and saied: Lorde, thou art God, whiche haste made heauen and earth, the sea and al that in them is,
4:25whiche by the mouth of thy seruaunt Dauid hast said: Why dyd the heathen rage, and the people imagyn vaine thinges.
4:26The kinges of the earth stode vp and the rulers came together, againste Lorde and agaynste his Chryste.
4:27For of a trueth againste thy holy childe Iesus, whom thou hast anointed, both Herode and also Poncius Pilate, with the Gentyls & the people of Israel, gathered them selues together,
4:28for to do whatsoeuer thy hande and thy councell determined before to be done.
4:29And nowe Lorde, beholde their threateninges, and graunte vnto thy seruauntes with all confidence to speake thy worde.
4:30So that thou stretche forth thy hande, that healing and signes and wounders be done by the name of thy holye chylde Iesus.
4:31And assone as they had prayed, the place moued where they were assembled together, and they were all filled with the holy ghoste, and they spake the worde of God boldlye.
4:32And the multitude of them that beleued were of one herte, and of one soule. Also none of them said that anye of the thinges whyche he possessed, was his owne: but had all thinges commune.
4:33And with greate power gaue the Apostles wytnes of the resurreccion of the Lorde Iesus. And greate grace was geuen wt them all.
4:34Neyther was there anye amonge them that lacked. For as manie as were possessours of landes and houses, sold them and broughte the price of the thinges, that were solde,
4:35and layed it doune at the Apostles fete. And distribution was made vnto euery man accordinge as he had nede.
4:36And Ioses who was also called of the Apostles Barnabas (that is to say the sonne of consolation) beynge a Leuite, and of the country of Cipers,
4:37had lande, and solde it, and laied the pryce doune at the Apostles fete.

4:1As they spake vnto the people, the prestes and the rulars of the temple, and the Saduces, came vpon them,
4:2takyng it greuously, that they taught the people, and preached in Iesus the resurreccyon from deeth.
4:3And they layde handes on them, and put them in holde vntyll the nexte daye: for it was now euentyde.
4:4Howbeit many of them which hearde the wordes beleued, and the nombre of the men was aboute fyue thousande.
4:5And it chaunsed on the morow, that their rulars and elders and Scribes,
4:6(and Annas the chefe Prest, and Cayphas, and Iohn, and Alexander, & as many as were of the kynred of the hye Prestes) gathered together at Ierusalem.
4:7And whan they had set them before them they asked by what power, or in what name haue ye done this?
4:8Then Peter full of the holy goost sayde vnto them ye rulars of the people, and elders of Israel,
4:9yf we this daye be examined of the good dede that we haue done to the sycke man by what meanes he is made whoale:
4:10be it knowen vnto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Iesus Chryst of Nazareth, whom ye crucyfyed, whom God raysed agayne from deeth: euen by him doth this man stande here present before you whoale.
4:11This is the stone which was cast asyde of you buylders, which is become the chefe of the corner.
4:12Nether is there saluacyon in eny other. For amonge men vnder heauen there is geuen none other name, wherin we must be saued.
4:13When they sawe the boldnes of Peter and Iohn, and vnderstode that they were vnlerned and laye men, they marueyled, and they knewe them, that they had bene with Iesu:
4:14and beholdynge also the man (which was healed) standynge with them, they coulde not saye agaynst it:
4:15but commaunded them to go asyde out of the counsell, and counceled amonge them selues,
4:16sayinge: what shall we do to these men? For a manifest sygne is done by them, and is openly knowen to all them that dwell in Ierusalem, and we cannot denye it.
4:17But that it be noysed no farther amonge the people, let vs threaten and charge them, that they speake hence forth to no man in thys name.
4:18And they called them, and commaunded them, that in no wyse they shulde speake ner teach in the name of Iesu.
4:19But Peter & Iohn answered and sayde vnto them: whether it be ryght in the sight of God, to herken vnto you more then to God, iudge ye.
4:20For we cannot but speake, that which we haue sene & heard.
4:21So threatened they them, and let them go, and founde nothynge howe to punysshe them, because of the people. For all men praysed God because of that which was done:
4:22for the man was aboue fourty yeare olde, on whom thys myracle of healynge was shewed.
4:23Assone as they were let go, they came to theyr felowes, and shewed all that the hye Prestes and elders had sayde.
4:24And when they hearde that, they lyfte vp their voyces to God with one accorde, and sayde: Lorde, thou art God, which hast made heauen and erth, the see, & all that in them is,
4:25which by the mouth of thy seruaunt Dauid hast sayd: Why dyd the hethen rage, and the people ymagen vayne thynges?
4:26The kynges of the erth stode vp, and the rulars came together, agaynst the Lorde and agaynst hys anoynted.
4:27For of a trueth, agaynst thy holy chylde Iesus (whom thou hast anoynted) both Herode and also Poncius Pylate, which the Gentyls and the people of Israel, gathered them selues together
4:28for to do whatsoeuer thy hande and thy counsell determyned before to be done.
4:29And now Lorde, beholde their threatenynges, and graunte vnto thy seruauntes, that with all confydence they maye speake thy worde.
4:30So that thou stretche forth thyne hande, that healynge and sygnes and wonders be done by the name of thy holy chylde Iesus.
4:31And assone as they had prayed the place moued where they were assembled together and they were all fylled with the holy Goost, and they spake the worde of God boldely.
4:32And the multitude of them that beleued, were of one hert, & of one soule. Neyther sayde anye of them, that ought of the thynges which he possessed, was hys awne: but they had all thinges commen.
4:33And with greate power gaue the Apostles wytnes of the resurrecyon of the Lord Iesu. And great grace was with them all.
4:34Nether was ther eny among them, that lacked. For as many as were possessers of landes or houses, solde them, and brought the pryce of the thinges that were solde,
4:35and layed it downe at the Apostles fete: And distribucion was made vnto euery man accordynge as he had nede.
4:36And Ioses, which was also called of the Apostles, Barnabas (that is to saye, the sonne of consolacyon) beynge a Leuite, and of the countre of Cypers
4:37whan he had lande, solde it, and layde the pryce downe at the Apostles fete.

4:1And as they spake vnto the people, the Priestes and the Captaine of the Temple, and the Sadduces came vpon them,
4:2Taking it grieuously that they taught the people, and preached in Iesus Name the resurrection from the dead.
4:3And they layde handes on them, and put them in holde, vntill the next day: for it was now euentide.
4:4Howbeit, many of them which heard the word, beleeued, and the number of the men was about fiue thousand.
4:5And it came to passe on the morow, that their rulers, and Elders, and Scribes, were gathered together at Hierusalem,
4:6And Annas the chiefe Priest, and Caiaphas, and Iohn, and Alexander, and as many as were of the kindred of the hie Priestes.
4:7And whe they had set them before them, they asked, By what power, or in what Name haue ye done this?
4:8Then Peter ful of the holy Ghost, said vnto them, Ye rulers of the people, and Elders of Israel,
4:9For as much as we this day are examined of the good deede done to the impotent man, to wit, by what meanes he is made whole,
4:10Be it knowen vnto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the Name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye haue crucified, whome God raised againe from the dead, euen by him doth this man stand here before you, whole.
4:11This is the stone cast aside of you builders which is become the head of the corner.
4:12Neither is there saluation in any other: for among men there is giuen none other Name vnder heauen, whereby we must be saued.
4:13Now when they sawe the boldnes of Peter and Iohn, and vnderstoode that they were vnlearned men and without knowledge, they marueiled, and knew them, that they had bin with Iesus:
4:14And beholding also the man which was healed standing with them, they had nothing to say against it.
4:15Then they commanded them to goe aside out of the Council, and conferred among themselues,
4:16Saying, What shall we doe to these men? for surely a manifest signe is done by them, and it is openly knowen to all them that dwell in Hierusalem: and we cannot denie it.
4:17But that it be noysed no farther among the people, let vs threaten and charge them, that they speake hencefoorth to no man in this Name.
4:18So they called them, and commanded them, that in no wise they should speake or teach in the Name of Iesus.
4:19But Peter and Iohn answered vnto them, and said, Whether it be right in the sight of God, to obey you rather then God, iudge ye.
4:20For we cannot but speake the things which we haue seene and heard.
4:21So they threatened them, and let them goe, and found nothing how to punish them, because of the people: for all men praised God for that which was done.
4:22For the man was aboue fourtie yeeres olde, on whome this miracle of healing was shewed.
4:23Then assoone as they were let goe, they came to their fellowes, and shewed all that the hie Priestes and Elders had said vnto them.
4:24And when they heard it, they lift vp their voyces to God with one accord, and said, O Lord, thou art the God which hast made the heaue, and the earth, the sea, and all things that are in them,
4:25Which by the mouth of thy seruant Dauid hast saide, Why did the Gentiles rage, and the people imagine vaine things?
4:26The Kings of the earth assembled, and the rulers came together against the Lord, and against his Christ.
4:27For doutlesse, against thine holy Sonne Iesus, whome thou haddest anoynted, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the people of Israel gathered themselues together,
4:28To doe whatsoeuer thine hand, and thy counsell had determined before to be done.
4:29And nowe, O Lord, beholde their threatnings, and graunt vnto thy seruants with all boldnesse to speake thy word,
4:30So that thou stretch forth thine hand, that healing, and signes, and wonders may be done by the Name of thine holy Sonne Iesus.
4:31And when as they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together, and they were all filled with the holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God boldely.
4:32And the multitude of them that beleeued, were of one heart, and of one soule: neither any of them said, that any thing of that which he possessed, was his owne, but they had all thinges common.
4:33And with great power gaue the Apostles witnes of the resurrection of the Lord Iesus: and great grace was vpon them all.
4:34Neither was there any among them, that lacked: for as many as were possessours of landes or houses, solde them, and brought the price of the things that were solde,
4:35And layde it downe at the Apostles feete, and it was distributed vnto euery man, according as he had neede.
4:36Also Ioses which was called of the Apostles, Barnabas (that is by interpretation the sonne of consolation) being a Leuite, and of the countrey of Cyprus,
4:37Where as he had land, solde it, and brought the money, and laid it downe at the Apostles feete.
